Region of the dvd player blocked

Hello!! I've been trying to know what are the possible way to unblock my dvd player in my mackbook pro. Actually according to the application dvd player, I have only the right to change 4 times the region.Well I did it more than 4 times and now it's stuck in region 1. I need to know how it is possible to make the dvd player multiregion. I'd like to play any dvd, any time at any region. How is it possible to make it? Is there anysoftware, or other? I need solutions cause I spent so much time trying to fix it, and I can't think of anything!!
Could u tell me asap please cos i need to watch certain movies for my masters!

To make your SuperDrive region free you'll need a firmware patch although these are few and far between for the Matishita drives Apple uses. So, your best option is to see if Apple will do a manufactuer reset on your drive. This will get you another 5 changes (you can only do a manufacturer reset so many times as well so this is not a long term solution).
The best option you have is to buy a cheap external drive with which you can patch to be RPC-1 region free.

You could use VLC which ignores regions:

  • Only Change the DVD Player regions 5 times!?

Really, is Apple so cheap that it thinks that is relevant?  I travel, I am an NGO, so I could change regions continuously but I am restricted on my Apple to five region changes.  Five!  I have now moved to Europe and cannot use the DVD player because I have changed it five times previously, yet i can buy a PC or a travel DVD player that will play any and all DVDs.  I now have a useless piece of software on my computer and a have to carry another DVD player because Apple are ******* ******.  I actually like Apple but this is ******* me off.  Maybe its time to look at the competition...

And each time you were warned that, "You can change the region code of a DVD drive only five times (including the original setting); the fifth setting is permanent", weren't you?

Definitely. And please do share the results.
Below is an excerpt from my Fujitsu Lifebook user guide (capitalisation and stress is theirs):
    • ALL LIFEBOOK DVD PLAYERS ARE SET TO PLAY DVD TITLES WITH REGION CODE NUMBER 1 WHICH IS SPECIFIED FOR THE NORTH AMERICAN MARKET. THE REGION NUMBER IS A REGIONAL RESTRICTION CODE DEFINED BY THE DVD FORUM ACTING ON HOLLYWOOD REQUIREMENTS. DIFFERENT REGION CODES ARE RECORDED ON VIDEO DVD TITLES FOR PUBLICATION IN DIFFERENT AREAS OF THE WORLD. IF THE REGIONAL CODE OF THE DVD PLAYER DOES NOT MATCH THE REGIONAL CODES ON THE TITLES, THEN PLAYBACK IS IMPOSSIBLE.
    • YOU CAN CHANGE THE REGION CODE ON THE DVD PLAYER USING THE PROPERTIES MENU OF THE DVD SOFTWARE. NOTE, HOWEVER, THAT YOU CAN ONLY CHANGE THE REGION CODE UP TO FOUR TIMES. AFTER THE 4TH CHANGE, THE LAST CODE ENTERED BECOMES PERMANENT, AND CANNOT BE CHANGED.

  • How many times can I change the DVD Player region setting?

I Plugged in my external DVD and started to play a DVD disc. It asked me to setup a region for my DVD player. As far as I know there is a limit for this setting. Is it also true with MAC drive on a MAc invironment? Thanks.

    Upto 5 times.

  • How to burn and finalize a dvd for the dvd player?

I just upgraded to Lion on my MacBook Pro. I burned a dvd from a torrent through the Mac's own disk utility. I didn't see anywhere that it finalized it. It did say it verified it. Is this the same thing? I am trying to play this dvd with is DVD+R on the dvd player but it says it cannot be played. I tried formatting it to a mpeg4. The dvd player is a Panasonic, which is a few years old (model called Double Feature).
Please use lay turns so I can understand. I am not that tecchie.
    Here are my three questions:
1: Am I using the right kind of dvd to record it with?
2: What format should I be using? In am in the California region of the US. I don't know if I should be using  PAL or NTSC. I Googled it but I am still confused as it says to check your region. Is there a universal format?
3: How do I finalize a dvd burn when I burned it from the Mac not using a third party application? I used the Mac's own burn capabilities.
Your answers and advise would be greatly appreciated.

There is free open source software called Burn that will burn DVDs. Here is a link.
If you wish to pay for software, there are many, including TOAST TITANIUM from Roxio. Apple's retail copy of iLife 11, and Apple's Compressor.
Of these, I would say that iDVD is known for being able to create very professional looking DVDs with intros, menus, lots of interesting templates.
Toast is much simpler and the menus and templates are more plain.
Compressor is a professional tool that does a lot more than make DVDs. Don't expect much in the way of menus or templates.
Burn, I have never tried, since I have iDVD and Toast for those ocasions when I need to burn a DVD. However, since it is free, I think it is worth a try.
Each software package is a little different, but in general, in iMovie, you can use the SHARE menu to SHARE/MOVIE in Large size. Save the movie to your desktop or someplace you can easily find it. Then drag it into the tool of your choice. You can alsouse SHARE/MEDIA BROWSER/LARGE if you have iDVD or Toast.

  • A problem with the DVD player

    Hello
I live in Kuwait, and I order a lot of movies from the United states by amazon.com, movie regions differ from USA and Kuwait, so the DVD player must change the drive's region, the problem is that I'm out of times because it's limited. Why is it limited and what can I do to solve this problem, even if I had to use other programs. Thanks.

VLC might work. It doesn't care about region codes.

  • What region is my DVD player on my iMac set to as default?

Canb onyone tell me what region my DVD player on my iMac (Intel) is defaulted to? I'm trying to work out whether some movies that I have are region 2 or not and all of my other DVD players are multi-region.

Canb onyone tell me what region my DVD player on my iMac (Intel) is defaulted to?
The DVD player on your iMac does not have a region code initially; it gets one the first time you insert a region-encoded DVD into the drive, and will prompt you for confirmation before any additional region changes are made. If you want to check on the first change, create a non-admin account in the Accounts pane of System Preferences if you don't have one already, and insert the DVD while logged into that account.
Region X is what you need
The link to this software on MacUpdate doesn't work, and the current version may not be available for download anywhere.

  • Region code for DVD player

When I was visiting another country on vacation I watched a movie and guess it was the 5th time of me changing my region code. So appaently it is now permanent and I can no longer watch dvd's on my mac, import cd's or install software. How can i change my region code back to canada?
    Please help asap!

    cambridge2020:
Be sure to type accurately when asking about "DVD player". We don't always know if you mean DVD drive or Apple's "DVD Player.app" software.
Region code data is changed both in the firmware of some DVD drive hardware, in the base UNIX operating system software, and in the "DVD Player.app" software. For a particular drive, if it has region code protection firmware (those sold in the white market in countries that comply with the motion picture industry "suggestion"), will become locked for DVD region coded disc playback after 4 changes (5 code uses). Even if you have a region-free DVD drive as I do, the OS and "DVD Player.app" will stop allowing you to play region-coded DVD movie discs. You can (and I have) overcome this in several ways. I won't elaborate because Apple may feel it their duty to censor my comments. I will go so far as to say an "Erase and Install" will reset the region tracking for everything but the drive firmware.

  • Need to change my region on my DVD Player?

    Hi there,
I have exceeded my changes of regions on my DVD player. It is on region 1 and I need it to be on region 4. How can I change this?
The error that is coming up is:
"This DVD-Video disc has a region code that does not match the region code set for your DVD drive. You cannot change the region code for your DVD drive."
If anyone could give me some advice, it would be greatly appreciated!!!!

  • Hi, I have a Lenovo 3000 n100 that does not recognize the dvd player or SD memory card slot

Hi, this is my first time on here so forgive me if I don't give all of the right information, I will try.  Until about a month ago my dvd player and SD memory card slot worked fine.  I was attempting to download pictures from the SD memory card to my laptop when for some reason it not only stopped reading the memory card but it erased it also.  I tried to watch a movie on it to see if it was working and it is not.  I checked the computer to see if I could manually turn it on and neither the memory card slot or the dvd player show up at all.  Is this a driver problem and if so how do I fix it.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Linda

I have struggled with the same thing, until about 1/2 hour ago....And its real simple.  I'm not a techy but here's what worked for me.
Since Lenovo doesn't send boot discs you are going to have to create one.  I went to http://www.ntfs.com/boot-disk.htm and downloaded the trial version - good for 10 days.  If this works for you then you should buy the software (that goes w/o saying).
Once loaded to your machine you will need to create a DVD (CD may work as well, all I had was DVD's handy).  Just lauch the application and it will do this for you.
Then you need to insert the DVD/CD into your player and restart the machine.
Once lauched the Software will lauch the Active@ Boot Disk menu.  One of the options (going from memory here) was to give you a windows prompt.  I simply typed c: and took me to the C drive.  Then I typed chkdsk /f c:
I was then told my c drive was locked (sounds familiar I bet) but this time I was given the option to dismount the volume which I did.  And it finally ran chkdsk, found and corrected all errors.
I rebooted my machine, launched diskeeper,  and guess what - I can finally defrag my harddrive now which is sorely overdue!
Good luck.  I hope this works for you!

  • HT2499 My DVD player has stopped taking discs and the DVD player no longer recognizes the drive.  I bought an external player.  How do I switch the DVD player from the internal drive to the external?

My DVD Player in my MabBook Pro, System 10.8.2, has stopped accepting discs and is no longer recognized by the DVD driver.  I purchased an external Blue-ray Disc player/writer.  It is a Samsung.  I downloaded their driver so the drive shows up on my desktop.  But how do I switch the DVD player over from my internal to my external drive?

In addition to RRFS's advice, please post in the correct forum. This forum is for iMac's, you mentioned you have a MacBook Pro. They're similar but still pretty different hardware.

  • When I try to burn my slideshow.mov to a dvd disc, it will burn but when i put it in the dvd player it says 'disc error'. I have burned it thru iDVD before but forgot how to do it and it won't do it now. The slide show is on my desktop

Rather than burn directly to disk follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • HT2499 I have a new MacBook Pro with OS X Lion 10.7.4. The DVD player does not have a feature to store film clips. Why? This is useful for my work and I had it on my older computer? Why the loss of capacity?

I cannot recall the DVD player ever being a place to "store" videos - it is simply an app to play videos.
If your machine is new, then iMovie should be included as the "shrunk" version of iLife is included with Lion (iMovie, Garageband, and iPhoto). However, iMovie is not a place to store videos either - it is a video editor. You import your clips and edit them in order to then burn to a DVD or share via a social media site.
Have you considered simply dragging the clips to your folder "Movies"? That would be a great place to just store them (please be aware that videos are usually large files, so keep your hard drive space in mind so you keep a minimum free and available for the OS to operate properly):
