Release 4: File Folder icon missing in SQL Worksheet

The file folder icon is now missing in the SQL Worksheet. Using File->Open just opens the file in the editor. There is no way to run the SQL file. Clicking on Run in menu across the top causes the "The target bogus.sql cannot be started because it is not a runnable target." error message.
The help for "Using the SQL Worksheet" shows the file folder icon on the screen shot.
How does one open a SQL file and run it in Release 4?
Mike

The File Open (or Open button on the main toolbar) works better in some respects - it opens in a SQL Worksheet (although not associated with a database connection), name s the tab with the filename, indicates a changed file by switching to italics in the tab name and requests confirmation on close if the file is modified.
However, the default directory is the <SQL Developer directory>/jdev and the file type defaults to all.
The Right-Click in SQL Worksheet opens the file from a default of C:\Documents and Settings\<username> (for me at least) with a file type of *.sql. The tab name is not renamed when opening the file (stays as the connection name) and there is no close confirmation if the file is modified.
The File Open makes it harder to lose stuff, but is a bit more work to use. As redoing lost work is more effort than switching file types and potentially more directory navigation on opening, I think the File Open option is better than the Right-click, but I would prefer something with the File Open functionality from within an existing SQL Worksheet.

You may have a bad hard drive.  The flashing folder with the ? indicates that the system cannot find your hard drive.  Use the installation disc that came with your machine.  Insert it into the disc drive and restart the machine holding down the "C" key .  When the restart shows the Apple screen you can release the C keyWhen the installation screen appears, click on the utilities button.  Does the left side of the disc utilities screen show your HD?  If not, then your HD is bad or it could be a loose connection. ifixit.com has a good tutorial on how to replace the HF in the Macbook.  Follow the instructions to remove your HD.  Reinstall your HD and boot up your machine to see if it recognizes your HD.  If it does't, you probably will need to replace your HD>
Is your machine still under warranty?  If so, take it to your nearest Apple Store for repairs as the repairs will be covered under your warranty.  If you bought AppleCare when you bought your computer your warranty is for three years.  If you didn't buy the Apple Care, then your warranty is only good for one year from the date of purchase.

  • Accessing File/Folder icons for current Look and Feel

    Hi,
I'm looking to get the Icon for files and folders that the current UIManager uses for some work I'm doing. Please could you help.
    I'm getting strange results from the method I'm using, which is to create a temporary file and do: Icon i = FileSystemView.getFileSystemView().getSystemIcon(tempFile);
I don't like the idea of having to create a temporary file to do this - isn't there another way to do it? - for instance asking "get default file icon"/"get default folder icon".
I could download a jpg image of the file/folder icons, but this is static - and I want my method to get the icons used for the current look and feel I'm using.
There must be a simple way to do this right? I mean, java uses a method to get the icons for the current look and feel.. Oh.. Please help!
    - Edd.

    Try these:
    UIManager.getIcon("FileView.directoryIcon");
    UIManager.getIcon("FileView.fileIcon");Leif Samuelsson

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • Why are my desktop folder icons missing?

why are my desktop folder icons missing?

Yes I have tried a restart, a shut down and restart, a coling off period for 5 minutes anda restart, an examination of view options and I still get nothing, no destop folders icons, just the title of the folder.  The folders without icons will open and their contents are displayed, just not the icons.  The only icons I see are the hard drives, I have 4 in my old mac pro.  So what gives?

  • 4.1EA2 Text cursor goes missing in SQL Worksheet

In EA1 and EA2, my cursor seems to intermittently go missing in SQL Worksheet
    Version info:

    (Running unity)

Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.25-b02, mixed mode)
(edit: Just tested in Windows - cursor does not go missing)
One such pattern that I noticed it seems to go missing on is when running a script.
Another pattern, if I hit enter a few times before the cursor has a chance to blink in between (not always), or hit the up or down arrow to go to the top or bottom of the page respectively, it also disappears.
I'm able to get the mouse back by dragging the window out of maximize position.
Couldn't reproduce in a procedure editor - assume will be same for package/function editor. So it's most prominent in SQL Worksheet.

I'm having this same issue that started happening with EA1 and persisted into EA2. It was not occurring prior to my upgrade. My input cursor disappears when scrolling up or down in code using the mouse wheel or scroll bar when the code extends beyond the display area. Moving the window does not help, but resizing the window appears to cause it to redraw and the cursor appears again. I can see what line I am on due to current line highlighting, and I can also select text or start typing to get an idea of where I am.

  • Mysterious Missing "Monitor SQL Status" Triangle icon in the SQL Worksheet

According to the help file, there is a feature in SQL Worksheet which I am not seeing, even though I have the most recent release (1.5.4) and am accessing 11.1.0.7 databases. I don't even see the triangle icon which is supposed to be located between the "cancel" and "execute explain plan" buttons on the SQL Worksheet toolbar.
"Monitor SQL Status (Oracle Database Release 11.1 and later only) calls the real-time SQL monitoring feature of Oracle Database, enabling you to monitor the performance of SQL statements while they are executing."
Is this working for anyone else? Any idea what might be preventing me from accessing this feature?

This is now a menu option. Tools > Monitor SQL.

  • Startup = blinking file folder icon?

After waking my Intel iMac from sleep mode I selected "Mail" too quickly and got the spinning beach ball for a while. I put the iMac back to sleep, woke it, same problem.  I turned it off using the off button on the back of the iMac, because I was unable to turn it off using the menu option. When I turned it back on I got a blank screen for about a minute, then a blinking gray icon of a small (1 inch) file folder. HELP! This reminds me of the old days of system conflicts.

From what you say, it looks like the hard drive has dead. The blinking file folder appears when your Mac doesn't find any bootable volume.
The best you can do now is to take the Mac to an Apple Store or reseller and get your hard drive repaired or replaced. I hope that you have a backup of your files

  • Image Button file browser icon missing

Hi there, I've been using C5 this week for the 1st time and have been working through a project. All has gone ok to date, a few niggles along the way but I've run into a huge bug this morning which is wrecking my plan to finish the project.
I'm adding an image button to a slide and have found to my frustration that the file browser in Properties has vanished, pushed out past the properties block, which of course cannot be resized to the right (thanks Adobe, nice UI design there). This means I can't choose any image for my button apart from those already loaded in the preview which is utterly useless. I've attached a screenshot to show what it looks like.
As you can see the Image Button drop down has gone very wide and pushed the folder browser icon out of sight. Simply maddening!
I had been using image buttons all week with out any issues. Yesterday an update appeared (5.0.1.624) for C5 so I applied it. Then this issue started. I have since uninstalled C5 and reinstalled without applying the update and its still doing it. What I didn't do was reboot after the uninstall, maybe I should have done...
Anybody else come across this? if it is a bug its a crippling one!!!!

    Hi Niall-Mac and KiHwa -
This is indeed a CP bug!!! We found this some months ago - it turns out that if you name your button images with a very long file name (35-40 characters plus), it slowly starts pushing the "browse" folder icon further and further to the right of the panel. Add a few more buttons with longer file names to the gallery and eventually it disappears altogether, like you both have encountered (see image).
Workaround 1 (best practice IMO until CP dev team fixes this):
We started creating buttons in a separate CP file, creatively named "projectName_buttons" - this way any time we need a button we go to this file and copy/paste it into our project and we never have to mess with the button gallery in our working (source) file. If the "browse" icon disappears again in our buttons file, we simply copy all our buttons from our "project_buttons" file into a new blank project and save over the old (broken) one.
    Workaround 2 (not so user-friendly):
    1. Stretch your timeline panel as wide as it can go on your monitor (I use two 21" monitors to develop so I can make my timeline rather long)
    2. Undock the properties panel so that it is a floating window
    3. Drag the properties panel by the topmost dark gray bar just above the "Properties" tab and place it just below the timeline until it snaps into place - now don't let go of it just yet, drag it up a tiny bit further - as you do this a blue bar will appear signifying that it will dock to that position (underneath the timeline) - when you dock it to the timeline it will stretch to the same length as the timeline and voila, you can now see the "browse" icon - however, who wants a properties panel that takes up your whole monitor!!!! I certainly don't.....
On a side note, it is very disheartening that once buttons are in the button gallery you have NO CONTROL over them - if they need to be edited you are forced to rename them so you can import a fresh button. This method unnecessarily creates TWO copies of a button in your gallery - the more edits you make to a button the more copies of that button you get in your gallery....some control over the button gallery would be nice.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers,

  • Blinking question mark/file folder icon on start-up

I cannot boot up my laptop--It makes the chime sound, then goes to a gray screen, then eventually an icon of a file folder with a flashing question mark superimposed on it appears. I've tried resetting the PRAM, and won't have access to the software installation CDs until I'm back at my office tomorrow.
    Any ideas?

I also have the blinking folder. I tried starting up in safe mode but still just ended up with the folder. I used the install disc 1(pushing the c)and my hd doesn't show up to even repair it. I have tried everything else listed here and in the manual except reinstalling because I am afraid of losing all of my data, etc. When it is turning on it makes a weird clunking noise that has never happened before, along with the clicking that someone else had referred to.
Is there anything else I can do? My macbook is just barely beyond the one year mark. What causes things like this? I also now live outside of the US so I can't take it in to the Genius bar. What should our next steps be?
    Thanks!
