Relinking new clips distorts image

Hello Final Cut Wizards!
I have a project that I'm working on for a client, and the previous editor did several things incorrectly which I am trying to fix.  The timeline sequence settings didn't match the clip settings, and the footage was never converted from H.264 mov to Pro Res.  I have converted all the footage to prores and made a new timeline sequence that matches the converted clips.  My hope is to not have to rebuild the entire timeline from scratch.  When I erase some of the old clips I can relink their corresponding new converted clips.  HOWEVER, when I do this, either the aspect ratio of the new clip is messed up, (ie shows up smaller in the canvas and viewer, or with black bars on the top and bottom, and sometimes the video itself is flattened in its aspect ratio.) and it needs to be rendered constantly (just like when the original h.264 clips were in use).
Does anyone have any ideas on why this could be, or how I can still use the sequence project plan without rebuilding it?
Thanks!!

Hi MtD,
Thanks for your attention and help!
The first editor had put the 1920x1080 h264 clips into a sequence set to 720x480.
The client has given me footage that is both 23.98 fps and 29.97 fps,all 1920X1080 h264.  now that it's converted it's all apple pro res 1920x1080 (some in 23.98, some in 29.97).  When I put one of the new converted clips into a new sequence, I clicked yes, make the sequence settings the same as the clip settings.
I am confused as to why it says HDTV 1080i becuase I'm fairly certain in mpeg stream clip I selected 1920 x 1080 16:9.  Would the 1080i be causing problems?
Would the differing frame rates?  It doesnt seem like these should affect the aspect ratio?
Here is a screen shot of a clip that I put into the project file on the new timeline with the new converted clip.  It is smaller than the full canvas and also distorted in it's aspect ratio.
I'm confused (And sleepy!)
Thanks in advance for any further guidance!
Ali

my i phone screen starts blinking and showing funny and distorted images before going blank. now it's blank, how do i get it back to normal.?

Did you already try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data, but a reset can cure some glitches.
If this does not work, try to set it up as new device, explained in this article:
How to back up your data and set up as a new device
Don't use the backup afterwards, to rule out a software problem. If the camera is working again, restore from the backup.

  • Relinking spanned clips

I have received a project edited on PPro 7.1.0 with a number of Canon C300 spanned clips. I have PPro 7.2.1. When I relink the clips the spanned clips link incorrectly. In fact all the span clips have incorrect timecode. The original editor on PPro 7.1.0 brought in the span clips as individual clips with sequential timecode. When I import the clips they come in as clips all of the same length but the time code is way off eg a clip that should start at 01:01:31:17 starts at 01:17:18:18. This is really less than satisfactory and the fact that we need to hand this project back and forth is really going to make life very difficult. Adobe and Canon need to sort this span clip thing out. It's been going on for over a year now at I'm about to start loosing it... a trip to the post office might calm my nerves.

OK... well it would seem that no one is that interested in this and no one from Abode is willing to help here which is very disappointing.
    Some further developments:
We are working in 25p PAL btw on apple macs
    1. Both machines now have identical versions of Premiere Pro
    2. Both machines have identical import settings in preferences... are there any other settings hidden anywhere
Importing mxf footage using Media Browser, shot Canon C300 running 1.0.9.1.00 firmware
On my import of span clips I get the first of the spans being the full clip with the correct timecode. The other spans are also imported as full clips, but with the timecode starting at the beginning of the final span
The import on the other editors machine is giving a very different result
He gets each of the spans as individual clips with each clip being 5:15:21(PAL), which as far as I understand being the maximum span length with the final clip in the span group being shorter than the 5:15:21
The other interesting thing here is that there are network drives involved at the other editors end and importing from the network drive give slightly different results to importing from a drive via USB3
While all clips come in as separate clips... no spanning... the clips imported from the network drive are correct sequentuially correct
The clips from the USB 3 drive will only play the first span of the clip although they are labelled spans xxxx01, xxxx02, xxxx03, etc
As far as I know my footage was exported to a USB drive from the network drive at the other editors end
I have imported footage into a new project and sent that project back to the editor... when he relinks the footage he gets the same results as described above
I am working on a new mac pro... the other editor is on a iMac... the only thing I haven't checked is the version of OSX that he is using
This now getting very tedious... something that should be very straight forward is now taking hours of time to try and sort out.
Can someone please help... yes I'm looking at you Mr. Adobe
    cheers
    Pete

  • "Show Photo Settings" distorts image.

    Load image into timeline.
    Select "media"

    Image is immediately distorted
see example of distorted image here:

I've had this problem before when rendering an image.
    Sometimes restarting iMovie helps.

General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
I have 829 GB specifically to address this limitation.
    Delete iMovie pref file
    and is named. *com.apple.iMovie.plist *
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iMovie.
Did this to no positive effect. same problem persists
Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    Did this. Still no fix.
    • Garageband-fix. Start it, Play a note and Close it. Re-try (Corrects an audio problem that hinders iMovie)
Never use Garageband. so bypassed this for now.
Screen must be set to Million-colors
    Check
Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK (not relevant for iMovie’08 or 09)
That would be unfortunate and somewhat difficult to locate, I think.
    iMovie updated ?
    I didn't know there was a 6.0.4. Looking for a download now.
    QuickTime updated ?
    Have QT 7.6.4 installed
    Mac OS version ?
    10.4.11
All that being said and done, I think I determined the problem.
    i.e. IMAGE SIZE.
Typically, I downsize & export images from iPhoto to a separate file and drag them from that file to the Clips or Timeline. Recently, being lazy I was trying to import directly from iPhoto via iMovie's Media/Photo area.
I think iMovie just doesn't like large files, because when I followed my previous procedure, it seems to work without the corruption.
Experience of others would be interesting.
    thanks again for your help

  • Motion keyframe effect stretch to new clip duration

Sorry for the lame subject title, but I'm not sure I know how to be more descriptive, or search for previously posted info about this.
I have 98 still images on a timeline to which I want to apply a "zoom in" motion effect, and add a 2 sec dissolve transition between each. Is there a way to apply the "zoom in" effect without the dissolve in between, and then, when I add the dissolve, have the motion effect stretch out to affect the new clip duration? As everyone here will know, the transition adds time on to both ends of the clip with the previously applied motion keyframes staying put. Obviously, the effect I get is a dissolve happens, the clip then zooms up, stops, and then the next dissolve occurs.
Sorry to over-explain something so simple. Just looking for, hopefully, an overlooked shortcut.

But in your method Alex, the transitions are adding frames at the beginnings of clips which means the new clip will dissolve completely in before moving. I'm sure that's not what the OP is looking for.
The easiest method for this is actually a variation on Arsenal's first post.
Apply a transition between the first and second pics in your timeline.
Then keyframe your move on the first pic so you are seeing all the available frames (including the ones used in the transition). If it's a simple zoom move for instance, mark a keyframe at the first frame of the clip, and then on the last frame adjusting the scale to taste.
Apply transitions to all clips in the sequence. If using the same transition this can be done easily by lassoing all clips in the timeline and dragging them into the Canvas, choosing overwrite with transition to apply the default transition to every clip. In FCP 7, this has been made even easier.
Once you have transitions on all your clips, copy the properties of the first pic (CMD+C).
Select all the other clips in the sequence. Hit OPT+C to bring up the Paste Attributes dialog box. choose Basic Motion and make sure that Scale attribute times is selected. Hit OK.
The same move from the first pic will be stretched or shrunk to fit the length of each clip in the sequence and FCP takes the transitional frames into consideration as well.

  • Import only new clips from previously-imported Mini DV tape

Is there a way to import only the new clips that have been captured since the last import when a Mini DV (tape-based) camcorder is the source?
I’m using a iMovie 8.0.3 with my Canon Elura 100 and it imports clips fine in Automatic mode when I’m capturing the whole tape. However, if I’ve already imported part of the tape before, iMovie appears to re-import all of the previous clips plus the new ones. And, I’m also now in a situation where it doesn’t seem to have imported the new clips from a previously used tape that I started to tack new clips onto the end of.
I don’t get enough time to sit in front of iMovie to sort out what’s going on, so any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

So there’s no way to use the Automatic mode, and for iMovie to skip over already-imported clips? Or recognize that a clip has been imported already, and prompt whether to continue to actually import it or not?
I ask merely because, given the length of a DV tape, this kind of thing probably happens regularly. And iPhoto, for example, understands when images have previously been imported.
If there is no such feature, I’m willing to submit it as a feature request. However, given the direction DV tape is going (despite its benefits), I don’t see this as something that will be implemented. All the new media have random access.

  • Color sent to FCP - New Clip in FCP that also needs color correction

Good evening, is there a way how - after having color corrected the FCP project in Color - to exchange or add a new clip into the FCP project, which can be color corrected in the same, initial Color project.
Meaning: I was "lazy" and I didn't bake a Motion Clip, which of course isn't showing in Color.
Now, I tried to be "smart": Exported the Motion Clip from FCP as Quicktime movie. Than went to Color and relinked media, with that new baked clip, which is the exact same length... That doesn't work...
    Hm. I am being ignorant?
Thank in advance for the help.
    Sincerely,
    Miss Snoozy

In your case, if you're up to date on version (1.5 or later), then a Reconform will probably work for you.
Create a new FCP sequence with the revised "baked" clip, export an XML file, open the original COLOR project, select Reconform from the file menu, select the XML you just created and hold your breah, cross your fingers and hopefully it will work.

  • Photoshop CC distorted image when zoomed out. Text, edges and Straight lines.

I get this distorted image when working on a file. When I zoom in its fine. But as soon as I zoom out all the lines, text , and edges start to become distorted. I've checked that all my drivers are up to date. I've re installed photoshop and still the same thing. Any Suggestions. ( files look fine when saved or exported, this just happens while Im working )

That looks like a Moiré pattern.  Did you scan the image?
If not, can you tell us what operating system?
And is your video card driver fully up to date from the maker's website?

  • What settings for new clips in my project?

I have some new clips that I need to add to an existing project. The info for the existing project is
DV PAL anamorphic preset and the footage that has been imported and editited to the project was taken from my standard def DVD's and exported to quicktime using MPEG streamclip with these settings
    *Compression: Apple DV-PAL*
    *Frame-Size: 720x576*
    *Frame-Rate: 25*
    *Sound: Uncompressed Stereo 48kHz*
I have some new clips to add, which are HD and this is the info
    Video Tracks:
    h264, 1280 × 720, 30 fps, 9.69 Mbps
Is it best to use the same MPEG streamslips settings and export to Quicktime as per the original footage or is there a better way to preserve the higher quality of the HD file that will still work with the original footage in the project?
    Many thanks

I have followed the steps above but the quality is noticably worse than the rest of my footage in the project. I wonder if I am doing it correctly or if I should start a new project?
I export from mpeg streamclip to Apple DV/DVCPRO NTSC :Quality 100% 30 Frames Frame size 720 x 480
I then use JesDinterlacer to perform the standards conversion. I select output then export to quicktime movie and use these settings

I’m pretty sure Adobe NEVER intended for someone to copy an XMP file from one photo to another outside of LR as a way to replicate settings.   You can make a preset from a photo, as discussed, or if you don’t want to do that, copy-paste the settings from a representative photo that you initially select to one or more new photos.  You could have a special LR folder that holds standard photos to copy/paste from.  Of course creating a Develop preset from the representative photo is the “normal” way to handle such situations, but maybe you have hundreds of different situations to copy settings from and don’t want to create presets for each one, but I’d argue that you could create a complex folder hierarchy for your presets and still have them findable without that much problem.
As far as the mystery about why some photos show Reset and some show From Metadata, is the Process Version (down in Camera Calibration) of the photo before reading the settings the same between the two situations?  And in general, are these virgin photos newly imported into LR or have some been modified in LR, already?  Does an XMP file already exist for any of these, where that XMP is being overwritten by your external-to-LR copying?  Or do you have auto-write-XMP enabled and your hand-copied XMP is getting overwritten by LR, automatically, before you have a chance to read in anything?

How can I stop iMovie from making thumbnails of clips from past projects when first opening the program to digitize new clips for a new project. It takes forever for it and is very annoying. I have looked in the preferences and couldn't figure out what would disable this problem.

You do not need to move your cursor much when pressing the mouse button to cause the tab to tear-off/tear-away into a new tab. No "sensitivity" setting that I am aware of. The tab in the new window can be dragged back to the original window.
To disable the feature, install this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bug489729-disable-detach-and-t/

  • How do I eliminate the delay in reducing background noise with each new clip?

My microphones pick up a fair amount of background nosie.  At 60% reduction with iMovie's built in editor it sounds perfect.  The only problem is that it takes about .5 seconds to go from zero reduction to 60%.  If this were only at the start of the new movie, that would be fine.  But this occurs at every new clip.  I'm editing together a long series of short, ten second clips...so there is a distracting hissing of background noise once every ten seconds.  Any help on this would be great.

  • "Open in New Tab" for Images in 10.1.0.273 Browser

    Good Day Sirs.
I updated to OS 10.1.0.273 on my Z10 yesterday, and noticed that the "Open in New Tab" side-tab/option is gone when selecting images.
This is also inconvenient as I browse image-boards where I usually open multiple topics/pages from a list of images representing the respective topics/pages.
    Anyone experiencing the same?
Or would anyone know if I just missed some browser settings? (tried checking these, didn't find a clue)
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, I confirmed it with the same website I frequent. I was previously able to open in new tab any images, without switching from my current active tab.
Just like in this very Web page, I can open in new tabs the links above: "Forums" and "Knowledgebase"... while I don't have the option to open in new tab from the image "BlackBerry Support Community Forum" at the top-center of this page.
    I only have the options:
    Copy Image Link
    Save Image
    View Image
    Share
Also, before 273 I was able to open images in place of pages on new and separate tabs. In that website, their index/catalog of topics are represented by image posts. The same page I mentioned above.

  • Where is the import option for "Start a new clip at each scene break" in iMovie 2013?

I am currently in the process of importing several mini-DV tapes via firewire into iMovie 2013. I have the most recent version of iMovie and am using a Sony Handycam to facilitate the transfer. The problem I am having is that when I hit import, iMovie splits what is supposed to be a single scene into multiple scenes ranging anywhere from a second to 5 minutes. I am left with several scene chunks that I cannot combine into one. I did a little research and found that iMovie is probably deinterlacing my scenes as it mistakes them for multiple scene breaks. In the older iMovie options, all I had to do was to go to "Preferences" -> "Import" -> then deselect "Start a new clip at each scene break". However, this option doesn't appear to be available in iMovie 2013. Is there a way I can force iMovie 2013 to import a single scene from my mini-DV camcorder without breaking it into multiple clips? Thanks!

1st : this is the wrong forum, this is iMovie for ipod/iphone and ipad ( iOS is the OSX mobile Operating System )
2nd : iMovie 11 is the current OSX version.  iMovie 06 was the last of its kind, all newer, including iMovie 09 have complete new workflow, so functions of 06 are gone and have replaced with others.
Please go to the correct forum to find specific answers.
