Reloading class in debug mode

Is there a way in JDeveloper to modify the code in a debug session and have the container re-load it automatically instead of having to re-start the debug session.
Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

  • Debugging mode in server - How does it work?

    Hi
    How does debugging mode in a server work ?
    Is the code compiled line by line as we proceed or how ?
    When we make a code change how is the hot code replaced when in debug mode and why not in normal run mode?
    Why is it not necessary to restart a server when we make changes to jsp when in normal mode?
    Thanks in Advance

    How does debugging mode in a server work ?Just like in any othe rprogram.
    Then how is it possible to change the values when
    the program is running . i.e. we have a option that
    we can change the values right !!
    Because the debug api allows you to do that.
    >
    s the code compiled line by line as we proceedor
    how ?
    No. Line number information is stored in the.class
    file, and the editor simply displays the line the
    bytecode mentions. Whether bytecode and sourcecode
    match is a different thing.
    I had previously read that the compiler compiles
    the code with break points at the beginning of every
    class (for step by step method)
    I agree with Rene. It happensthat you debug with the wrong source code and you will in that case notice that the debugger is saying that you are executing a line between methods.

    When we make a code change how is the hot code
    replaced when in debug mode and why not innormal
    run
    mode?I guess the executed bytecode for a method issimply
    replaced in memory... the entry point was probably
    stored and will be used to re-set to method entry
    before running the new bytecode.
    Then why is it not done when we are running the
    server in the normal mode.
    Why would it? What code should it replace it with?

    Why is it not necessary to restart a server when
    we
    make changes to jsp when in normal mode?
    Because the server can notice the change andunload
    and reload the class.
    I meant that when the jsp is compiled the servlet
    is created when i run the server right.(i'm not
    sure).
    So when I change the code and without restarting the
    server I run a jsp file it reflects the changes...
    HOW??
    Because some servlet runners can be configured to check changes on disk, and recompile if needed.

  • JDev in Debugging Mode

    Hi,
    Im running the application in debug mode. after which i updated a java file and compiled it. Now when i reload the page(didnt restart the server instance), i am getting classnotfound exception.
    Is this a standard behaviour of Jdev or when i reload the page should the latest file should get picked?
    Thanks,
    Viswanath

    Timo,
    Sorry in my previous post ,i meant to say that i have to rerun the application.Should i rerun the application even if i change any property in .jspx page?
    When i change the existing java file and reopen the target url, sometimes it picks the latest file and sometimes it gives IllegalStateException.
    Could you please explain what changes get reflected immediately and when should i rerun the application.
    In one of the forum post there was suggestion to set the below property. When i tried this application didn't recognize the class files even when i rerun.
    Tools->Preferences->Run->WebLogic and setting Select Hot Class Reload Policy to Fast Swap
    Thanks,
    Viswanath

    -----------------------------------------------

    Hi,
    We have had the same problem in a non-express application
    with a heavy server partition. In our case, the error was not
    systematic, depending on the server workload at the time we
    tried to partition and run.
    The work-around we're using is to put the -fm flags (increasing the x
    parameter to say 30000) in the 'server arguments' of your server
    partition
    properties in the partition workshop. Note that if your server is a Unix
    platform,
    you need to put double-quotes before and after the parenthesis in the -fm
    syntax.
    Hope this helps,
    Vincent Figari
    BTW, what Forte version are you using ?

    I am not sure, how can you do it on the fly, but if you want to restart the server here are the parameters you need to add to the java arguments
    -Xdebug -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n,address=$Port
    (where Port will be any port you want to connect to).
    Thanks

  • Edit code while in debug mode in CC

    Hi,
    I have just upgraded to Flash CC, and can no longer edit code while in debug mode. It appears the code window becomes read only while debugging. This is problematic because I often find it very useful to copy in variable names from data visible in the variables display portion of the call stack. This is very helpful if I have made a typo in my variable names, or if I am reading out data from a network request and I don't know the variable names ahead of time. Is there a way to unlock the code window so it does not become read only during debugging?
    -David

    Hi Amy,
    I appreciate that you are trying to help, and from a purely coding standpoint see the advantages to Flash Builder IDE over the Flash Professional IDE. Although personally I am a Visual Studio kinda guy... However I am working with a fairly large code base, (we are a small game studio that has been working with flash cs4, 5, and 5.5 for the past 5 years) and while nobody that works for me is crazy enough to put code on the timeline, we do have a significant amount of UI elements, dialogs, and layouts that are designed in the Flash editor with logic in classes that extend those elements. Now correct me if I am wrong, but it is my understanding that you cannot build FLA files from flash builder let alone have them link with the classes that are set to extend them in Flash Professional. The move to CC actually gives us access to Flash Builder - something that previously was an additional $500 a seat. While it may make sense for us to use in the future, for now I am faced with the issue of the new Flash CC has removed the ability to edit the code while debugging. I was hoping there was a setting or a hidden option to turn this very unnecessary change off, I wasn't really asking for a critique of my IDE choice.

  • JNI_CreateJavaVM in debug mode

    Hi,
    on W2K using JDK1.3.1...
    I tried, from my own executable, to launch a JVM in remote debug mode. My IDE for Java is Idea, so it provides me the arguments to provide to that function :
    -Xdebug -Xnoagent -Djava.compiler=NONE -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n,address=5000
    the other JVM args are                "-Xms150m","-Xmx150m", and the classpath to my jar (given as -Djava.class.path)
    Note that I load the jvm.dll dynamically (using LoadLibrary()). I don't do any static linking...
    The question is :
    If I don't explicitly load the dt_socket.dll using LoadLibrary()
    the JVM refuses to load, with the following message :
    Transport dt_socket failed to initialize, rc = 509.
    FATAL ERROR in native method: No transports initialized
    if I use shared meme instead of tcp, I have a similar message :
    Transport dt_shmem failed to initialize, rc = 509.
    FATAL ERROR in native method: No transports initialized
    Is there any additional args to provide to the JVM so that I don't have to explicitly load the dlls it requires ?
    My goal is to be the as little dependant as possible from the brand/version/installation/Operating System of the JVM...
    Thanks in advance.
    C.Dore

    Well, as a second view, I don't beleive that the dlls that are missing are statically likned. Because the error message is not a Windows message :
    Transport dt_socket failed to initialize, rc = 509.
    FATAL ERROR in native method: No transports initialized
    Thus, the required dlls should be search relatively to the path of the jvm.dll, or the the path of jdwp.dll
    I consider this as a bug.

  • Running in Debug Mode

    Hi All,
    If I run my OAF page in debug mode and keep pressing F8, the control tends to reach classes like OAWebBeanHelper etc.
    Are we suppose to look into the code for these classes for debugging ?
    How do I skip these seeded classes code when I am in debug mode ?
    I want to see, where the control is going from the end of my current method..
    -Amit

    What exactly are you trying to debug. At the end of your method it will go back to the next line on the calling method. You can check that in the stack window(next tab to the structure pane) where you will find the entire stack of flow. You can also use Step out of the current method in to the calling method.

  • WaitFor() works only when in debugging mode!

    Hi, im having a problem with making my function waits for a process to end while in run mode!
    The function always run and exists while the process is still running...
    I checked it in debugging mode and it worked just fine, but i cant seem to be able to make it work in the run mode!
    Any hints???
    Here is my code:
    public void executeBatch (){
    try{
    Runtime runtime = Runtime.getRuntime();
    Process batchProcess = runtime.exec(new String[] {"cmd.exe", "/c", "FetchFiles.bat"}, null, new File(BATCH_FILES_PATH));
    BufferedReader b = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(batchProcess.getErrorStream()));
    if (b.ready()){
    String line=null;
    while ( (line = b.readLine()) != null) {
    System.out.println(line);
    line = b.readLine();
    int exitVal = batchProcess.waitFor();
    System.out.println("Exit Value = " + exitVal);
    } else {
    b = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(batchProcess.getInputStream()));
    if (b.ready()){
    String line=null;
    while ( (line = b.readLine()) != null) {
    System.out.println(line);
    line = b.readLine();
    int exitVal = batchProcess.waitFor();
    System.out.println("Exit Value = " + exitVal);
    } catch ( Exception ex ){
    System.out.println("executeBatch : " + ex.getMessage());
    btw, the process is a batch that connects to a linux server and "mget" files from some directories in the server...

    what the ....???
    the "BadExecWinDir.java" bad approach is all about
    not using an executable command like "dir"... which
    im not using at all...More than that but secondary.
    >
    and for the "GoodWindowsExec.java" concept
    demonstrates that you should handle the standard
    error and standard input streams and emptying them
    both together, which what i exactly did. i USED the
    concept...
    My piece of code is the same as the
    "GoodWindowsExec.java" code except that i made the
    code of the StreamGobbler class comes inside the
    function directly, and that i didn't use a checkup on
    the operating system to decide wither it's a Windows
    NT or Windows 95 to decide the command prompt
    executable name...StreamGobbler runs as a thread so both streams are emptied in parallel. In your code
               String line=null;
                while ( (line = brError.readLine()) != null)
                    System.out.println(line);this will only terminate when the process terminates and closes stderr. This means that the following code
              while ( (line = brInput.readLine()) != null)
                    System.out.println(line);
                only starts to run once the process terminates.
    BUT, the stderr stream and stdout streams have a limited buffer and block when this buffer becomes full. So, if the stdout stream produces more than a buffer full then it blocks until more room is avaialable and the process cannot terminate so the error stream cannot be closed so the code to empty stdout cannot run to make room in the buffer to put more output. Phew!
    If you change the order of emptying the two streams then you have a simillar effect.
    The only way I know of dealing with this is to empty both streams at the same time so you need two threads. You can use the default thread for one but you MUST use another thread for the other. Since I use stdout, stderr and stdin I use 3 threads!
    >
    thats all...Please read the article again.

  • Detect debug mode in runtime?

    During runtime, it is possible from the program itself to detect if it is being run in the java debug mode? Well the idea is that if it is running in the debug mode or release mode I can dynamically load the corresponding debug or release JNI classes.

    Or just change the LD_LIBRARY_PATH (or PATH under Windows) that the debugger passes to java when it is started so that it finds the desired JNI shared library.

  • NoClassDefFoundError: in JDeveloper debug mode

    Hi all.
    I have a strange problem. Only one JSP in my entire application fails to appear when I debug with local (embeded) OC4J. These are the first lines of the exception message:
    Exception:
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: _addFile
         java.lang.Class java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass0(java.lang.String, byte[], int, int, java.security.ProtectionDomain)
              native code
    The class _addFile is generated from addFile.jsp and is available in the output directory. Production application doesn't display the same behavior, this only happens in DEBUG mode in JDeveloper.
    OS: win2000
    JDK: 1.3.1
    JDevaloper is 9.0.2.. something.
    Thanks people.

    A few quick questions:
    1. Can you run (not debug) the application?
    2. Have you tried specifically compiling the file addfile.jsp in JDeveloper? - This will usually show the error before attempting to
    run it.
    To do this, select the file in the navigator and do a right-click Rebuild or Make..

    There isnt any other way except for doing a Java Callout. In the callout method you can access the Domain/Server MBean for the information that you seek. Based on the callout result you can go ahead with the logic in your PS..
    Here is a sample Java Code to get the Server Log Level and ascertain whether the server is in Production Mode or not.

    Hi Lars Klippert
    Sorry for the late reply. First of all, thank you for uncovering an untested part of ServerDebug MBean. The Debug Mode for Security Realms currently works for fileRealm but doesnot work for alternate realms(e.g., LDAP realm). We're in the process of fixing this in the future releases(may not be Beta Refresh but will definitely be fixed in GA). I'm attaching a working config.xml(with fileRealm) and the only change you've to make to your config.xml is
    <Server
    <ServerDebug
    DebugSecurityRealm="true"
    Name="myserver"
    />
    </Server>
    If you're debugging a fileRealm then I belive, this serves your purpose. But if you're debugging a Security Realm other than fileRealm and this is blocking you, plz let us know so that this will be fixed with a higer priority. Thanks again for uncovering this. We will let you know as soon as this is fixed.
    regards

    I also get the exception then i disable the debug-modus and
    initialize the weblogic.logging.LogOutputStream by hand.
    For our EntityBeans we have developed a custom error logger
    that uses the weblogic.logging.LogOutputStream and it works
    fine. Maybe the error only acccours if two or more
    weblogic.logging.LogOutputStreams are active...
    With the 5.1.0 version of the server everything works fine.
