Remembering last saved location

I just upgrading to Mountain Lion on my work computer. For the past four years I've been using Snow Leopard and have become pretty used to it.
My problem is that applications do not remember where I last saved a file. More specifically in acrobat. I'll open a PDF in Acrobat and "SAVE AS" navigate to a folder on my mac and save it. I will download another PDF (using Safari) open it and "SAVE AS" ... this is where 10.6 differs from 10.8. The save as window will be in the downloads folder instead of the folder I previously navigated and saved the last PDF file.
Hopefully this makes sense. Let me know if you have any ideas.
Steve.

Hi strace,
Safari in Mountain Lion defaults to saving to the Downloads folder, but you can choose a different folder if you'd like.
Safari 6 (OS X Mountain Lion): General preferences
Save downloaded files to
Choose a folder or other location for items you download.

  • Remember last folder location lost with Mac Lion updates

Since Lion or Mountain Lion, we have had an annoying problem where the last folder location is not remembered in Illustrator. For example when updating links on multiple files, would like for the folder location to return to the last one used, but this would go to some folder 3 levels higher/

fixes this. But hoping someone else has another solution as having to buy that for each computer would get costly for somethng that used to work. Also the software seems to not have bneen updated in a long time, adn don't wnat a solution that won't last.  Am on 10.8.2.

how about this Mike, the file opening dialog is handled by the OS, if it still does not remember, I could manually try to code it to stay in a folder.

  • Last Saved location

I have Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro.   When I save a PDF file, it always defaults to the same , exact folder location on my hard drive.   I would like it to default to the LAST folder location I saved PDF's to.  How can I do that?

how would creating "shortcuts" to a folder be different than just navigating to the desired folder?  Other than a quicker navigation process, that is.   Would it allow me to point to the shortcut locations based on the file I'm saving?  is that it?  If so, that would work for me.

  • Adobe Acrobat X - Remember Last Save Location

Is there a setting that can be changed in Adobe Acrobat X Pro to  make the program remember the last location that you saved to?  Having to keep navigating to the same folder is frustrating.
    Thanks.

No. The setting is remembered while you have Acrobat open, but is lost afterward. The simplest way to set up a directory that you use regularly is to put a shortcut to it in the Documents folder. This it is just one extra click away.

  • "Save as" does not remember last saved path?

I am seeing a strange problem in our company.
Only a few of our users can save PDF documents with "Save as" and then when they open a new PDF file and choose "Save as" it takes you to the directory were the last file was saved.
Unfortunately this is not working on on all pc´s. When I try do the exactly the same then it might remember one time and the next time I want to save a file it just starts in the
directory were I opened the file from.
    Please help me :-)
We are all running newest version of Adobe Reader 10.1.2 on Windows 7 32-bit

Does the discrepancy show up with PDFs opened from the local system or from any 3rd party application such as Outlook etc?

The only trouble with this is that also, it will ignore all of your other preferences and settings as well. All you've done is to start in 'Vanilla' mode. And unless I'm mistaken, the original settings are still all there for next time you forget, and start normally...

  • Finder does not remember last save location.

    Hi all,
When you save a file into a folder, the finder default remembers this location so that this is the new default patch when you save or save as the file again or save a new file.
On a business mac, this is not working for one account. The other account that runs on the make does not have any problem.
Anyone an idea how to fix this for the user?

Ever get a reply to this? It's driving me crazy, I don't remember this in previous versions of the OS. Thanks! E

At this moment I have problem that Adobe don't remember were last saved PDF location is.

There is no such setting in Adobe Acrobat.

  • Remember the path where I last saved my document

    Hi,
in OS X 10.4, the computer remembered the path to the location on the server where I last saved my document. Now, in leopard, when I open several documents, I have to set the path each time if I want to save the documents into a new location. Is there a way to change that?
Just in case the problem is not clear:
I open a document from the server which is located in file No. 1 and save it into file No. 2. If I open another document from file No.1 and I want to save it, the app offers to save it to file No.1 NOT No.2 (hich was the last file I used as destination). I would like to set it, that it remembers the last file.
    Regards
    Frank

This is the appropriate behavior.. Most email programs (browsers too) store attachments (or files) in a cache area. You then need to do a save as to more them to a different location. The plug-in is finding the pdf in the location determined by the email program, so that is the last place the plug-in used. It doesn’t have a different location to use.

  • Windows 7 does not remember last "Save As" location

It's really the only thing I want my machine to do– just remember the last place I saved to- nothing else really!
Really pissed because it worked yesterday (XP).

  • How can I set the OS to remember my last import location?

    Hi All,
I use Adobe InDesign CS5.5 and QuarkXpress 8 and I am eternally frustrated that the OS will not remember my last import location/folder when importing subsequent pictures from the same folder. InDesign can import several pictures at a time so it is not as frustrating as Quark with this issue. I am sure it is just a setting that I have to apply but I cannot find it. I seem to remember this was an option in previous version of the OS.
I have had a look at the InDesign and Quark preferences and cannot find this option
Can anyone guide me in the right direction?
    Kind regards.
    Mark1425

Okay, cheers, so I guess it's stored in the application prefs. I just installed Snow L last week and it bothered me that everytime I opened a document I had to set my pref again. I wasn't aware that it was storing it for that particular app though cause I'm using so many differnt apps. But you are right, it does store for the individual app. Cheers for the answer!

  • How to setup the MSTSC (remote desktop client) NOT to remember last server/wks IP info..

Just similar to setup the Local/Group policy 'Don't remember last login information'
    Please advise
    Thanks in advance ...

    Hi,
The default server and the server lists are written by design in Windows, which is located in registry at:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client\Default
You can delete them manually but this effect won’t persist after next remote desktop logon. The key will be recreated and save your choices of remote servers. Therefore, I’m afraid there is no policy or method to disable this feature. A possible workaround
is to save an empty .RDP file and deploy it to all the client sides, then let all the users use this one in order to avoid remote server being saved.
For more information on this behavior, please refer to:

I recently transferred my ITunes library to an external hard drive.  I made sure to copy all the data from the saved location.  After the transfer I noticed that a lot of albums are missing the first song and some recently purchased albums are missing.  Is there any way to recover the data?  Thanks for any help.

I may have found an answer here:
    http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive
They only thing I can assume is that my external hard drive was slow to start and iTunes defaulted to its old directory (see the last paragraph at the link above). However, once my external was recognized shouldn't everything have fixed itself?

  • "The file [name of file] may have been changed by another user since you last saved it." Issue affects both network and local files.

When a certain user saves a file in Excel 2010, she gets a message: "The file <name of file> may have been changed by another user since you last saved it."  She can choose to save as another file or overwrite with her changes.
This just started happening a week or so ago.  She was concerned that someone else was accessing her files, but we did several tests that opened, made a change and saved in a matter of seconds, and she still gets the message.  It happens on
most files, but not all – both network and local.
We already tried the QFE_Saskatchewan registry fix.  I also checked the file server for Services for Macintosh.

You may be confused by the error in Excel saying “another user”. Actually Excel cannot tell who (the real human) is editing the file. Based on my research the No.1 possibility of the error is KB2626998.
2626998  Connection to a network document is lost in the 2007 Office system or in Office 2010 after the computer resumes from standby
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2626998
For Excel 2010, follow these steps:
    a.  Click Start , click Run , type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK .
    b.  Locate and then select the following registry subkey: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Excel\Options
    c.  On the Edit menu, point to New , and then click Dword Value .
    d.  Type NetworkAvailableTimeInSeconds , and then press Enter.
    e.  Right-click NetworkAvailableTimeInSeconds , and then click Modify .
    f.  In the Value data box, click Decimal , type a number value, and then click OK .
Note This registry subkey sets the time, in seconds, that Excel waits for the network to resume. For example, if you type 15 for the number value, Excel waits 15 seconds for the network to resume. You might have to do some tests in your own environment to
determine an appropriate value. You may have to try multiple numbers.
    g.  Locate and then select the following registry subkey.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\office\14.0\common\Internet
    h.  Repeat step 2C through step 2F again. Reuse the same value that you used previously.
    i.  Exit Registry Editor.
Feel free to post back. Thanks.
    Cheers,

  • Terminal Command, how to set defaults write, make application(s) use directory path where file last saved?

Does anyone know whether there's a terminal command to make all applications remember/use the last directory/path where I last saved a file?
For example, let's say there are (10) ten PDF's on a website, and I want to use Preview.app to open and save each file to the same directory.
Problem is, after each time I save a file, Preview.app doesn't automatically remember/use the last directory where I saved my file(s).
Forcing me to navigate back to the same directory after each time I save a file; super-annoying.
But, for some reason, when saving images from the web, Firefox remembers the last directory where I saved the file (jpeg).
So I'm hoping there's some way, possibly a terminal command to set/force all applications (including Preview.app) to remember/use the directory/path where file(s) were last-saved.
    Anyone?
