Remote Desktop to Windows 8 (in Azure) using a Windows Live Account

This took me a while to find this answer so posting it again in case it help anybody and also perhaps somebody has a suggestion of a better way to do it.
I spun up a Windows 8 Pro VM in Azure (using MSDN subscription) which gives me a local account to access it with via RDP. No problems there.
I want to use a Microsoft Account on this VM instead of a local account however, because I want to sync my OneDrive (reason: I have a lot of data in the Cloud via backup programs like Carbonite and CrashPlan  that I want to move to my OneDrive as it
has unlimited space now, but don't want to use home or work network for that move as it will take months to move it all about. Cloud-to-Cloud initial data move seemed like it would be quicker hence I am doing it in Azure.)
I can't use OneDrive with the local account no matter what I tried so I had to log in as a Microsoft account.
I tried adding my Microsoft Account to this VM, making it Administrator and then switching the local account to that one but this process failed (even tried different accounts, one without 2-factor auth. enabled: nothing.)
I also tried RDPin in using the MicrosoftAccount\[email protected] rather than convert or link the local account but that didn't work either. "Your credentials didn't work." Even trying with just the email address didn't work. Nor did using
an app password (I have 2-factor enabled of course.)
The only way I was able to log in was to:
Under System properties of the Windows 8 Pro VM, under Remote tab uncheck "Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication"
I follered these instructions to create and edit an RDP file on my local pc:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941641
Once I connected from my local pc with the modified RDP file to the Windows 8 Pro VM in Azure, I was prompted for the user to log in as by the VM, allowing me to select the Microsoft Account I had previously added instead of the local account which looked
the same as if you do it physically at the machine. This had not happened before and once I did, everything was fine after that :-)

Hi,
Please use the original RDP file in another computer and install the certificate. And then use the new RDP for test

  • REMOTE DESKTOP SERVICES CLIENT ACCESS LICENSES FOR MICROSOFT WINDOWS SERVER 2012 STANDARD AND DATACENTER

I am using a window 7 professional  service pack 1 and I purchase REMOTE DESKTOP SERVICES CLIENT ACCESS LICENSES FOR MICROSOFT WINDOWS SERVER 2012 STANDARD AND DATACENTER. but  the seller did not send me any installation CD or instruction
    on how to use it.
Please how can I use it on my window 7 professional  service pack 1.
    Thank you.

Though Bill is absolutely correct for most CALs, Remote Desktop Services does have its own special licensing server.  I haven't installed one on 2012, yet, but here is a step-by-step guide for 2008.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd983943(v=ws.10).aspx
Here is a lab guide for 2012 -
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj134160.aspx
But, the explanation of your environment begs the question - what are you trying to do?  You say you have a desktop OS and you are talking about Windows Server products.  In that light, your question does not make a lot of sense.

  • Remote Desktop disconnected because of security error from Windows 8.1 Surface to Server 2008

    Hello,
    I am trying
to connect to a remote app on a 2008 server from a surface pro 3 with 8.1
through Netilla SSL VPN and I getting the following error message.
    Remote Desktop Disconnected
Because of a security error, the client could not connect to the remote computer Verify that you are logged on to the network and then try connection again
if I am connected to the network and use the RDP file, it connects fine.
    This
was previosluly working, but when I changed the terminal server to per user
license mode from trial mode this happen
This works fine from Windows 7 machines.<o:p></o:p>
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Derek

    Hi Derek,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
From the error itself it seems that there is some network connection issue with VPN. Kindly see that you get network when you are using VPN connection, also VPN must be running. You can also try to “ping” the remote computer and see whether there is successful
    ping result.
Also try to use “Allow connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop” option on server side and check whether you can remote desktop successfully.
Apart this issue can also be caused due to certificate as VPN can’t resolve the certificate properly and facing this issue because you are facing issue only with usage of VPN (as you have commented). Please check
    this link for detail.
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.

  • Multliple Remote Desktop Sessions? Like Terminal Services in Windows?

I have been looking for the answer to this question for awhile.
Is there a way to have multiple users using any kind of remote desktop software to all run their own sessions in OSX.
Would it take apple remote desktop? or OSX Server? or a third party product
In the the Windows Server world its called Terminal Services.
As far as I can tell you can tell, you can only have one remote user session per machine that you are connecting too.
I know that you could run SSH and have remote sesisons that way, but for the use, the gui is required.
    Thanks

You can't do this - at least out of the box.
Currently there can be only one WindowServer, the app that's responsible for all User Interface activity on the system. As you've seen you can have multiple users logged in, but one one of them can have a GUI.
OSXvnc claims to be able to do this using VNC to connect to multiple 'screens', where each user is logged in via fast user switching, but I've never tried it to know how effective it is.

I was wondering if any fellow Mac freak could help a Newbie with a step by step process of adding the PC.
I wish to control certain programs for the other user but have no idea how to do so.
Just looking for a step-by-step as I've searched the Internet thorougly without sucess.

  • Can Apple Remote Desktop Client 3.8 be used by hackers to hack into my account!

I received an update from Apple to  install the Remote Desktop Client 3.8 and am now wondering if hackers can use this software to control my laptop!

Don't worry!  First off, you already have Remote Desktop Client on your computer.  The update is just an update from 3.7 to 3.8.  It's a component of the operating system and does not give anyone remote access to your computer unless you have configured it to allow access.  Even then, the remote person or computer needs to be given access to an account on your device or know your credentials to initiate connections.  At the very least, you are making your computer MORE secure by keeping the remote client updated, not less, as the update may contain security related fixes to the client.

  • Remote desktop is it secure and encrypted for windows 7 and windows 2008 servers

Remote desktop is it secure and encrypted? any supporting documenting showing if it is secure and encrypted .

    Hi,
Yes, RDP is secure and encrypted. RDP uses RSA Security's RC4 cipher, a stream cipher designed to efficiently encrypt small amounts of data. RC4 is designed for secure communications over
networks. Administrators can choose to encrypt data by using a 56- or 128-bit key.

  • Renaming extracted Single windows IDcs5 documents using a windows CSV-file

I'm not a scripter and I'm in need of a script that will rename extracted single pages using a column from a windows CSV-file to name each InDesign file accordingly. I have search the forums but all I can find is a Renaming extracted single pdf pages as in this post http://forums.adobe.com/message/4633533#4633533#4633533 I've been told that I could adjust such scripting but I don't know how. I will like to acomplish the same but Exporting single InDesing pages. Does anyone has a script that can be share on how to do such thing? Either through ID or using Bridge?

The link highlighted in your post splits a large PDF into single page PDFs based on a csv/txt file within Acrobat - it isn't an InDesign Script.
There is an indesign script you can try and it is written by Loic Aigon: go to http://www.loicaigon.com/en/pdf-exports-properly-named/ read the article and see if it is appropriate for you.
There is another indesign script you can try but it is in german. See the adobe forum post http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1014766 for more information.

  • Unlock severals windows phone device using the same live id

my situation is simple: what happens if i have unlocked the maximum number of allowed device and i have to unlock one more device but i don't  have any of the other device to unregister. Can i unregister any of theprevious
devices using other mechanism and what happens with the unsigned apps installed in each of the unregistered device after this process

You can removed unlocked devices on the Windows Phone Dev Center Dashboard under Account / Phones. If you do that the removed phone will relock (I don't know exactlly how long it takes for that to happen). Once the phone has relocked sideloaded Apps will
stop working on that device (and you won't be able to sideload Apps on that device anymore).
I have read several reports that you can get developer support to raise the number of devices a single account can unlock in case you can give a good reason for needing more.

  • HT204053 How can I remove an apple Id ( hotmail address)which is being used in the app store and iTunes but is actually a blocked account and use a current live account which is now set for mail etc ?

I have 2 apple iDs ( hotmail accounts) one of which was set up some time ago and not used for awhile in which time it has become blocked. This Id is set up in iTunes and the app store. It is linked to an old email address which is no longer used which means I can't retrieve a code to reactivate. What I want to do is remove this inactive hotmail account and use the other for all access with iTunes, app store, iCloud, mail etc. without losing all apps and credits. Can this be achieved ? My daughter needs the iPad at school and at the moment can't use iCloud and mail and I am scared to add more iTunes credit when there is a problem with this account... I am desperate and have tried everything I know, thanks

    Welcome to the Apple community.
iTunes and iCloud and different accounts, you will need to delete both accounts from your device before adding the new details in their place.
For iCloud go to settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit the delete button. You can then sign back in using your correct details. For iTunes go to settings >store, tap your account ID and then sign out, you can then sign back in using your correct Apple ID.

  • How to recognize if application is installed using "Install Application on Remote Desktop" option on Windows Server 2008 R2

How to recognize if application is installed using "Install application on remote desktop..." option in Control Panel in Windows Server 2008 R2?
Basically, as administrator, I can't say if the user installed application using "Install application on remote desktop..." in Control Panel or he just installed it by clicking the .msi executable. I can't find anything that makes any difference.
I could not find anything in the registry. I am quite confused.

    Hi,
Thank you for your posting in Windows Server Forum.
Please make sure that you are using category view of control panel-programs to check the application. And in addition to “install application on Remote Desktop server” user can also use command line also.
    change user /install
    change user /execute
    change user /query
“The first time you run the application, it searches the home directory for its .ini files. If the .ini files are not found in the home directory, but are found in the system directory, Terminal Services copies the .ini files to the home directory, ensuring
that each user has a unique copy of the application .ini files. Each user should have a unique copy of the .ini files for an application. This prevents instances where different users might have incompatible application configurations.” (Quoted formthis

    Hope it helps!

  • Windows server 2012 and windows xp remote desktop connection loss

I am having this problem for a month now, and i am stumped with trying to find an answer . I have talked with several network admins in my area and with no luck i have not found a solution. I have a windows server 2012 placed with 5 pcs that are connected
on a local network , those 5 pc's connect to the server via remote desktop. List of pc's:
    1x Windows 7
    4x Windows XP SP3
All have the latests network drivers, all have the latest version of remote desktop installed. All have been scanned for viruses. All have antivirus software.
Problem is the 4 XP machines lose connection on when connected via remote desktop. If one starts losing connection the other 3 start to lose the connection aswell. The windows 7 machine is not affected by this it works fine.
    What have I tried:
    Scanning for viruses.
    Disabling Firewall and antivirus software.
    Updating all drivers.
Did many changes to group policy like keepalives etc.
    Turning off SMBv2 SMBv3.
Turning off network adapter Offload settings.
Changed some registry settings like keepalive, smb etc.
Updating every pc and server with all windows updates.
    Changed the router and switch.
Port forwarded needed ports like 3389.
    Updating remote desktop to 7.0.
I might be forgetting some stuff i will add as i remember anything.
So the thing is this. I use a Windows XP machine from my office I remotely connect to the server via the Internet and I DO NOT experience any connection loss. BUT the XP machines on the local network constantly experience connection loss via remote desktop.
I pinged every Machine from the server via CMD command PING. So when they lose connection the Packets get time outs . Packets get dropped between 1-10 packets when a connection is lost. This packet drop does not occur when using the internet or anything else.
ONLY when connected to the server via remote desktop. The packets get dropped at random intervals.
Problem is I use an XP machine and I am not experiencing any loss of connection , while the XP machines on the local network experience it , but not the windows 7 machine.
Router is ASUS RT-N53 , and switch is Dlink DES-1008D. Server is a Dell PowerEdge T110 II.
Can someone please tell me what can i do to solve this problem?

So today got some word from their office. They were using RDP from 8AM until 12PM all was working fine. Then got back after lunch about 1PM and got a few connection lost errors when they tried using RDP again. Its weird since they didn't have disconnects
in the morning, and started having them after lunch.
Also noticed, that two pc were not using RDP and were disconnected as shown in task manager. And they still got request timeouts.
Maybe this is not a remote desktop issue?

  • Surface Pro 3, Remote Desktop, multiple monitors, Windows 8.1 DPI scaling issues

I have been evaluating Surface Pro 3 and once of the attributes is the display. Here is the description of the environment and the remote desktop display issue.
Surface Pro 3 (Windows 8.1 with latest firmware and Windows updates) has 12 inch built-in screen with native resolution 2160x1440. The Surface is docked and an external monitor (native resolution 1920x1080) is connected to the docking stations. The
display configuration doesn't allow for different scaling for each monitor, single scaling value is used for multiple monitors. This is an issue as the recommended scaling of 150% is optimal for small built-in screen of Surface but it is not optimal for
large screens of external monitors. Also this scaling is "inherited" by a remote desktop session which results in objects being too large on the remote desktop sessions or sometimes even blurry/fuzzy.
Can the blurriness/fuzziness of the remote desktop session be resolved?
    Z

    Hi Colin,
Thanks for the response. I installed the latest firmware and patches about a week ago and the scaling issue improved. It is not optimal yet as some graphical elements are still out of proportions but I do not want to spent more resources on this subject
    anymore.
    Best regards,
