Remote login from home to work

Hey Guys,
I am sure this is the wrong place to post this question but i'll try anyway
I would like to connect to the machines at my office from my home - we are in the video/film post production business, and do a lot of CG rendering that can take days/weeks to render.
It would be great ti login from home to check how these renders are going - in case the software has crashed or needs some help of some kind.
I know these days it is possible to use the 10.5 Back-2-Mac stuff, but these work machines do not have .mac accounts. Also I would like to connect to the windoze machines as well.
I am guessing we would need remote desktop / VNC.
I went to a whatismyipaddress website and got an IP address for the work machine. When I tried to connect to it from home it just didnt work.
Is there some sort of thing I need to setup on the router at work?
Sorry I am sure this is completely the wrong forum to post in!
Thanks if you can give some tips

  • Transferring back-and-forth from home and work

I need to transfer my Mail and Address book back-and-forth from home to work.
    1. Which files do I export from home?
    2. Where is it imported into work?
    3. Are there any known issues with the database files becoming corrupt from going back-and-forth like this?
    Thanks.

what os are both macs running on?
i would suggest you look at www.mac.com, the .mac service, if you want to sync various data between two macs - works with tiger and leopard os, but not panther.
manually moving folders may be cumbersome and end up with unintended consequences, as in human error or other glitches.
nonethless the folders that contain data for both mail and ab are respectively homefolder/library/mail and homefolder/library/mail downloads for mail and homefolder/library/application support/address book for ab.
you will also have to copy the com.apple.mail.plist and com.apple.mail.searchhistory.plist - for mail - and the com.apple.addressbook.abd.plist and the com.apple.addressbook.plist files - for ab - all four located in homefolder/library/preferences.
    hope this helps

  • Remote connection from home PC to work iMac

Our organization recently purchased an iMac 27-inch for an employee. That user would like to be able to remote into the computer from home. Unfortunately, that user has a PC at home. We were able to establish a VPN connection on the home PC and recreate the user's desktop via TightVNC: http://www.tightvnc.com/
We can see the desktop and access mail and files but the connection is way too slow to work effectively. Has anyone tried a different solution for PC to Mac remote connections? Thanks in advance.

    Never tried

  • Administer from home and work?

I am the administer of CPS. I work from home and at the
office. My name appears twice as administrator. The drafts sent for
review show on one or the other draft consoles, but not both. Is it
possible to administer from multiple computers using just one
    Administrator name? Thanks, Jean

That's a horrible work around and doesn't do what I'd like at all.
I have an iPhone, I have a home computer that I put stuff and sync it to.
I also have a job at a company that produces a TV show and commercials. I'd like to be able to drag and drop copies of those onto my iPhone so I can show people. It doesn't make any sense, nor is it any "fun" to have to drag those to a USB drive, take them home and THEN load them on the iPhone.

  • Change my address from home to work when using template chooser letters

In Pages '08, I could choose a template letter with my predefined vcard info in it. I could right click on, for example, the address and choose to Change Address to a "work" or "other".
In Pages '09, I can't figure out how to change the default address, etc, that is prefilled. I want to change from the default Home to Work.
I'm not merging either, just want to change the prefilled info.

No, that seems like going backwards and the people at Apple are always forward thinkers.
I actually think I figured it out. Go into the Inspector>Merge. There has listed address, city, name, etc. fields for both "me" (from my address book) and from a default database that Pages uses. Change anything you want by selecting the pulldown menu for each item.
In may case, I want to change from a default "Home" info to a "work" info. Select as such. Now it won't change instantly. Once you are done with all changes in the Merge screen of the Inspector, launch Address Book. Goto "Me" and drag the vcard over to the Pages document in that section of my info.
Bam, it changes! I think it was simpler in Pages '08, though.

  • SMB - domain login from XP not working

I have been testing using my MacOSX 10.5.3 server as PDC for Windows XP machines. I set it up on my test server with no problems. Enabled the SMB service, promoted it to a Primary Domain Controller and then a few other minor tweaks and away we went. I got mapped home folders and login script work really quickly. Because of this success I decided to integrate it into a server roll out I am doing at the moment with an Xserve and OSX10.5.4. I setup the SMB service promote it to a PDC and everything is perfect. I get a clean built Windows XP SP2 machine connect it to the domain, reboot, go to login but I get an error saying that "Windows cannot connect to the domain, either because the domain controller is down or otherwise unavailable or because you computer account was not found....".
After check things several times as well as other people confirm various options I am lost.
To add further confusion I went back to my test server removed my XP machine from the domain and re-added it to start testing my problem and holy cow I got the same error message.
The only difference is the 10.5.4 update I did after I setup my test server must have changed something thats stops me from logging in. Can anyone help??

import java.sql.* package is given, even then its not working.

  • ICal Alarm emails coming from home AND work email?

My iCal calendars are synced using MobileMe with my home computer and my work computer (and my iPhone). I'll sent an alarm on my work calendar to email me at work. I am now getting two emails sent TO my work email From my work email AND my home email. Is there any way to stop my home sending out work alarms?

    Hi BenChase,
Select the calendar you don't want to send alarms in iCal's calendar list. Press Cmd-I to open its Info panel. Check the box that says 'Ignore alarms'.

  • Screen sharing works from home to work but can't type shifted characters

    hi
i can successfully connect to from my home (using macbook or macmini) to my work mac using screen sharing but it seems that i can't type shifted characters like
    @ or _
i can type these characters using screen sharing within the network at work so. any reason why this might be?
    best wishes
    max

I'm having exactly the same keyboard issue.  Certainly nothing has ever enhanced my concentration while coding like suddenly becoming unable to type.
I'm seeing a great many devicemgr and rake errors in my system log.  I don't know if they're related.  How 'bout you?
If you're unfamiliar with the system log…
    Open /Applications/Utilities/Console.
If necessary, choose View > Show Log List.
system.log is at the top of the FILES section.
Try searching it for hot words like DEBUG, FATAL, and aborted.
I've found some discussions that would tend to indicate my errors are postGres related – I'm running OS X server.

  • Help needed moving iPod music from home to work PC

I have a shuffle that I have had for some time, but never used. I want to fill it up on my home PC then plug it in to my work PC and listen to the music. I heard this isn't possible and that I have to load software on my work PC (which is not allowed) in order to listed to the iPod AND that once I open the iPod on my work PC, where the music was NOT originally from, the iPod will be reset and I will lose all of my music (however it will remain on the computer I originally downloaded from).
    Is this true?
If not, after I load up my iPod shuffle at home, how do I then play that music from my work PC?
    Thank you!
    Shuffle

Am I correct that you want to listen to the songs you have on the shuffle through your work computer's speakers?
(An alternative would be to use headphones, which won't work in some offices, or a dock/external speakers thing.)
One way, if your computers have an audio in jack, would be to connect the shuffle there, from its headphone jack. That would take a male-male cable, mini plug on the shuffle's end and probably mini plug on the computer's end.
In red67's case, it sounds like an option might be to put copies of the music files into the iTunes Library on work computer. To do that, you'll need to copy the files onto CD or flash drive (including the shuffle, with disk use enabled and appropriately sized). If the songs were purchased from iTMS, you'll have to authorize the computer on first use. Then, play the songs with iTunes and use the shuffle for something else.
In beckylv775's, it sounds like your IT folks have your system locked up a bit tighter, but if your computer has an audio in jack, that should still work.
I haven't tried any of these, but good luck.

  • Multiple user logins (from home screen) on ios?

I'd like to be able to log out of my ipod touch, and login as a different user for my small child. We're using several educational apps, and navigation is pretty easily learned. But many times I've caught it just before a gibberish text or email was sent to a colleague. Or push email will come through and block the app until Read or Dismiss is pushed.
I know I could turn off push email before I let it be used for child apps. But I just want to create a child login with a few apps, and no email and text  set up at all. When I say "multiple users" I mean just like on the Macbook Pro. I want the ability to create mulitple logins, even the "guest" login like that.
I searched, and unfortunately I think the answer is "no." But if anyone knows of a way, or even an app that will let me do that, I'd be grateful!

Pizza98704, it would be more helpful if you edit your canned response to meet the specific problem. In this case you said there is not solution but the canned part refers to "above solutions" and say post back and you will try to find another solution. Very confusing.

    Hello,
I am currently an owner of an Ipod Touch 4th generation. I see you are having problems with your Ipod Touch, so I will try to find a solution to your problem.
    Cannot be done!
    Hope that helps!
If none of the above solutions work, can you please respond back ASAP as I will try to find another solution to your problem (This might even help others with the same problem!)

  • Is there a way to play my iTunes library from home, at work?

    Wondering if this is possible...

Not the files sitting on the computer at home unless you know so much about computers you wouldn't even be asking this.  Home Sharing only does as it says, shares between devices at home.
You might want to check the Match service.  This keeps a copy of your iTunes collection on an Apple computer so you can have access to the copy anywhere you can get on the Internet.

  • Remote App and Home sharing not working

I've had no luck getting either the Remote app or Home Sharing working.  I've opened the correct ports, turned on sharing (both home sharing and under the Preferences -> Sharing tab), installed the newest version of iTunes, restarting the computer, iPhone, and router, and I'm still not seeing the iPhone appear under devices nor am I seeing home sharing as an option in the iPhone's iPod app.  Any idea?

These cases often end up with the user having some Odd thirdparty firewall or virus scanner try to disable it

  • Enterprise structure -work from home employees

    Hi all,
We are in the process of setting up our Enterprise Structure. PA will be set up as 4 physical offices of the company in US. PSA as to be set up as Divisions of the company. We also have work from home employees working at different locations (15 states) in USA. Right now they are tracked statewise. They are categorized by work from home- per state. Also all work from home employees are treated the same way as other employees who work from office locations in terms of benefits and pay. They are considered as Active employees in current legacy system.
I want the advise on how to go ahead for setting up PA, PSA, EG and ESG for thses emplyees. One option is to set up 15 personnal areas as 15 states which will divide the work from home emp (in addition to 4 PAs as offices) or the other is just to set up one PA for all homebase employees in US and then maintain their locations/states somewhere else.
Has anyone come across the same situation ? How the work from home emp. in other companies are categorized? Any suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks.

    Thanks Manoj and Sikinder.
And how to categorize them under PA? As I said ealier, we have 4 PAs as physical offices and I am confused where to put the work from employees in Enterprise Structure.
    Kindly suggest.
    Thanks.

  • Remote app and home sharing

remote app & home sharing worked on my new iPad (3rd gen) but did not work on my iPhone 4. this went on for a week or so but now both of them (remote app and home sharing) work on my iPhone but stopped working on iPad. I tried re installing itunes to 10.6.1.7 (latest version) with no luck. please help because i prefer using my ipad to control my pc

Be sure that all devices are on the same network.
If apple tv and remote are on same homeshare you should be able to select and control the apple tv from with in the remote app.
If apple tv and the itunes are on the same homeshare the apple tv will see the itunes library (and shared photos) in the computer section.
Additionally if these are all on the same homeshare you should see both the apple tv and the itunes library in the remote app.
    hope that helps.
