Remote Server Shares and Permissions...

Hi there...is there any command prompt CMD to view or list the server shares and permission (either Remotely or locally) in Windows environment... Pls let me know...
VT

Hi,
Yes, you can use "ICACLS <path>" to check NTFS permissions (locally on the file server using the local drive or remotely using the UNC path). You could refer to the article below to know more detailed infomation about iCacls.

You can use "NET SHARE <sharename>" to check share permissions (locally on the file server).

  • Enumerate File Server Shares and Associated Number of Connections

    Please help!
    My scenario: I have a mixed Windows 2003 & 2008 file server estate and i need to establish what shares are published on each server and the associated number of active connections, just like what the "Shares" section in computer management
    gives me.
    I'd like to do this via some sort of script so I can then have a choice of what to do with the output, the interface won't give me the flexibility I need.  There seems to be a lot of scripts & help out there but nothing seems to quite give me what
    I need e.g. I can enumerate the number of shares in a variety of ways but then can't figure out what i need to do to report the number of open connections, I've also found ways to report on the number of open sessions but then can't figure out how to get more
    granularity on individual shares. Driving me a bit crazy right now as I'm probably near but due to my aged scripting abilities I just can't figure it out
    Any ideas?  BTW PowerShell isn't installed on my Windows 2003 estate and it isn't practical to deploy/install it.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Full Server upgrade and permissions

    Hello All,
    I maintain a Mac Pro 3.2 Xeon file server running Lion 10.7.5 with eight IMac's connected to it and I have been getting a lot of "Permissions Differ ...... " error messages when I run the built in Disk Utility.
    I would like to run a GUI or command line syntax that actually checks the physical surface of the mirrored RAID array like CHKDSK /r does for Windows because even the SMART status is "Not Supported" in Disk utility.
    The ONLY application that is not Macintosh on this server is Carbon Copy Cloner ........ only because Time Machine only support the boot drive. I never install non-vetted third party software........ My Windows end-users do that enough to keep me eating steaks ....so I know better (LOL).
    I perform scheduled backups to 2 swapped out external FireWire hard drives.
    And no one but else touches "Wall-e"....... so there are no Trojans, spy ware or ad ware on it.
    The other question I would like to ask is.........
    If I upgrade this server to Mavericks 10.9 is there anything in particular that I need to watch out for?
    Thanks in advance (smile)

    Sir Jepping,
    Thank you VERY much for taking the time to reply (smile)
    What happened was one end users IMac froze (most likely because she had way too many resource hogging apps open at the same time) and she lost one page of an advertizing article she was working on.
    I am the systems administrator for that company (and about eight others) so it fell on me to keep her happy as she is the new team lead for that department.
    I'm going to hold off on updating the server to 10.9 as long as possible and go back to a versioned/full scheduled backup scheme on both the external hard drives. Fortunately I set this Mac server up with a total of three hard drives (one boot drives for the OS and Apps plus two RAID 1 drives for all the end users data files) so there is no need for a bootable clone.

  • File Serving/Shares and vhdx

    On a 2012R2 guest OS that is going to be a file server...(low I/O really for our smb)
    Should I make one big VHDX attached to the guest to host say 7 shares...
    Or should I logically split them up into separate vhdx files, but not 7 different ones as I would like to group them together into say maybe 4.
    This is mainly for logical organization and isolation. I was curious to any negative effects from doing it that way.
    I mean I wouldn't like a bunch of smaller vhdx files, but I'm not sure if I want one big one either.
    I wouldn't mind having the engineering share as it's own vhdx though.

    Go with one VHDX putting shared folders on it. There's no point with deploying multiple ones, you're not going to have better performance or security, you'll just make whole management more complicated.
    StarWind VSAN [Virtual SAN] clusters Hyper-V without SAS, Fibre Channel, SMB 3.0 or iSCSI, uses Ethernet to mirror internally mounted SATA disks between hosts.

  • Chmod to propagate permissions in OS X Panther server share

    i know this has kind of been covered before, but it is hard to understand all the details
    basically i have 2 panther servers and the permissions for some of the shares get messed up from time to time. someone will create a folder on their desktop and then copy it to the server, and will keep the permissions from the user workstation rather than the enclosing folder in the server....
    so what i do now is manually go through all of the server shares in workgroup manager and tell it to copy the permissions from the top level of the server share on down. we don't have that many shares so it isn't too time-consuming, but i was thinking it would be great to have a script to do this in the terminal
    basically i want something like this
    chmod -R 777 <server share>
    and i'd need to put it into a chmod on a daily basis... which is another story. i think i have enough info about this to get started once i figure out how chmod works
    if anyone has a link for an explanation of how to do this in simple engrisch please pass it along,. all the detailed info is a bit over my head.
    thanks
    bob

    Open the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder and enter the following:
    do shell script "chmod -R a+rwX '/server share/'"
    with the name and path of the server share inserted between the single quote marks. If the path contains a double quote, precede that quote with two backslashes, and a backslash in the path needs to be preceded by another. You can duplicate the line to work on multiple shares. If you get a message saying you're not allowed to do this, add
    password "yourpass" with administrator privileges
    to the end of the line. Enter your actual password between the double quote marks. This script can be saved as an application and then used to correct the permissions on the shares with a double-click. The X option will set the item permissions to 6 if the item it's acting on is a file, or 7 if it is a folder or if the permissions are already an odd number. This prevents the execute bit from being set on items where it shouldn't be.

  • MDT Deployment share and SQL Share on different servers

    Hello Technet,
    I would like help to figure out how to deal with my MDT Deployment share being on a different server than my SQL Share. I am trying to use the MDT Database in MDT 2013 and SQL Server Express 2014. My deployment share is located on a Linux File Server share,
    and my MDT Server and SQL Express Server are located on the same Windows Server 2012 VM.My Bootstrap.ini therefore looks like this:
    [Settings]
    Priority=Default
    [Default]
    SkipBDDWelcome=YES
    DeployRoot=\\192.168.1.10\DeploymentShare$
    UserID=user
    UserPassword=password
    my Customsettings looks like this:
    [Settings]
    Priority=CSettings, CPackages, CApps, CAdmins, CRoles, Locations, LSettings, LPackages, LApps, LAdmins, LRoles, MMSettings, MMPackages, MMApps, MMAdmins, MMRoles, RSettings, RPackages, RApps, RAdmins, TaskSequenceID,Default
    [Default]
    CaptureOS=YES
    [CSettings]
    SQLServer=SQLServer
    Instance=SQLEXPRESS
    Database=MDT
    Netlib=DBNMPNTW
    SQLShare=Logs
    Table=ComputerSettings
    Parameters=UUID, AssetTag, SerialNumber, MacAddress
    ParameterCondition=OR
    Therefore, the problem is that during winPE Bootup, WinPE connects to the deploymentshare using the provided credentials just fine, and tries to process customsettings. However, I can map a network drive to the SQL Share as seen in the logs by the following
    errors:
    1.ERROR-Unable to map a network drive to \\SQLServer\Logs
    2. ZTI Error opening SQL Connection:[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen(Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access is denied.
    3.Unable to establish database connection using [CAPPS] properties.
    In WinPE, as soon as I hot F8, and use net use \\SQLServer\Logs, the deployment works fine and the properties are read from the database during each section process..
    Why is MDT Unable to map the \\SQLServer\Logs , and it requires the manual use of net use? Must I move the deployment share to the same server as my SQL Server Server? Thanks so much.

    Should work, Don't know why it's failing.
    Can you post your full bdd.log file to a public site like OneDrive and share the link?
    There are some inconsistencies with your written summary above.

  • Help with JSR-168 Remote Server URL Setting

    Installation file just says:
    Note: Before placing the portlets on a page, edit the JSR-168 Remote Server object
    and change the Remote Server URL to the correct address of the host computer.
    What should it be? This is not enough information for me.
    Thanks,
    user450158

    Never mind... I figured it out. It should be set to whatever makes the URL for the web services correct; i.e. wherever the JSR168 sample portlets WAR file is deployed. In my case: http://qlv-ows-i-1.ql.local:7071/

  • Transfered Local files disappear when put in a different folder on remote server

    Hello everybody,
    I know this question is kinda asked a lot, but I cant seem to find the right answer that relates to my problem.
    I am trying to "put" my local files on my remote server. I managed to get two files in the right folder on my remote server.
    But now every single time I put one of the other local files on the remote server, it comes in the main folder (that works fine). I then have to drag it to the right sub-folder in
    order for my website to work. When I drag these files into this sub-folder, they disappear on the remote server.
    I keep putting the local files in the remote server and this works, but putting them in the sub-folder of the remote server doesnt work.
    Does anybody know what the problem could be?
    I try uploading from the hosting website, but my website doesnt work, I checked all the files, the links everything works. Therefore I am now trying it through dreamweaver.
    Also I check the remote server online and the two files that did work, showed up there, so its all connected fine.. :s
    Im using Dreamweaver CS5.5
    Any help would be great, I need to get this website uploaded tomorrow for my uni assignment, also if somebody knows a good WORKING freehosting website, please let me know
    Thanks,
    Maartje

    Yeah the folder on the remote server is htdocs , I am putting all the files in the htdocs folders, otherwise it says my website doesnt work.
    Your remote site is not properly defined.  Put "htdocs" into the Root Directory: field of the Remote server's definition.  Now your files will always upload to the correct location.
    Does the order of the files need to be the same too?
    No.  They are ordered in DW in the way that you have specified by clicking on the associated column headers.

  • Connect to remote server broke after update to 10.5.5

    After updating my system to Leopard 10.5.5, I can no longer access a critical server at work while at home. I get the Errror -36 message after a bit of a wait. I don't even get the login dialog.
    I have tried both using the URL and the IP number to the remote server, with and without the "afp://"-prefix. (AppleTalk is enabled in the SysPrefs.)
    I have also tried a 10.5.4-related tip that you could via Terminal alter the way the Mac sends its access codes. No luck with that either.
    The server runs OSX Server (10.4.?) as far as I know. It used to work in 10.5.4. Any ideas?

    If you are at home what are you doing to access the server?
    I have tried both using the URL and the IP number to the remote server, with and without the "afp://"-prefix. (AppleTalk is enabled in the SysPrefs.)
    If this is a critical server then it is unwise to have the afp protocol opened up to the internet. Also Appletalk is not used in Leopard for file sharing it is a legacy protocol that still exists for printers.
    The server runs OSX Server (10.4.?) as far as I know. It used to work in 10.5.4. Any ideas?
    If your server is running Tiger server you should enable the vpn server and use that to access it from outside.
    If a server admin setup your Tiger server I would be very surprised if they had opened up AFP to the world.

  • Connect to remote server

    sorry, I'm new on this, but I couldn't find any example of connect string for rempte server (not even in the Oracle C++ Call Interface Programmer's Guide, ch2.
    For example, if I want to use JDBC is:
    "jdbc:oracle:thin:@prophet.njit.edu:1521:course"
    How should be the syntax for OCCI?
    thanks

  • An impersonation error occurred using the security context of the current user. -- Report server is on remote server and file share folder is on local server

    I have deployed a report on the server (e.g. remoteserver\reports) from my local machine. I opened the report in browser in my local machine and created a new subscription with windows file share delivery option.
    But its giving an error "Failure writing file \\localserver\subscriptions\Report1.xls : An impersonation error occurred using the security context of the current user." Here "subscriptions"
    is the folder which I have created in my local machine.
    I followed the instructions found in the link "http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms157386.aspx"
    Please help to solve this issue.

    Hi,
    Thank you for your reply.
    I have followed the same process. The credentials which I have given are same as my PC. But I am getting the same error. Can you please clarify the statement "Service
    account that is using for file share subscription should have write access to shared folder."
    given in the above link?
    I am the one who created the folder and subscribing the report, so probably I have the full write permissions to the shared folder. What is the service account in this context?
    I think the problem is, I am deploying the report on the server and creating the shared folder in the local machine. I tried giving shared folder permissions to the user on the server. But my local machine is in local domain and I cant access the users on
    the remote server. Do I need to create a shared folder on the server? I am new to SSRS. Please help me.
    PS: I have assigned with all roles viz. Browser, Content Manager, Publisher, Report Builder etc. and My Role name (WEBSERVER\User)
    is different from my local user name (domain\username) in domain.

  • Issue with multiple application installation and server share

    Hi,
    SCCM 2007 SP2 R3 ICP2
    All servers W2K8R2
    I am having an issue with software installs.  When using a variable for multiple applciation installs, I get access errors when the applications go to install.  It appears to be a multiple connection issue, but I can't figure out why.
    I am using server shares for my DPs.  The proper permissions are set.  The servers (DP) are W2K8R2.  I think it has to do with the way R2 handles the conenctions.  I want to know if this is a known issue or if anyone has come accross
    it.
    I am going to post in the software distribution forum as well, but thought this would be a config question.

    Hi! I'm waking up this dead thread but I've got a *very* similar problem!
    I've got a SCCM 2007 SP2 R3 installation on Win2008.  All clients are in the same ConfigMgr-site. Multiple package deploy in the same site-boundary as the CM-server works excellent. (We've got  three DPs in the same site-boundary as the
    CM-server itself.)
    Now, we have a new site-boundary with it's own Protected DP where multiple package deploy fails
    but the same packages, being run from the task-sequnce works! So then the client can download, install and run the packages from the proteced DP just fine. All "single" packages install fine before the "Multiple Appliaction"-step.
    I've tripple checked that we're running the same packages when we're installing Multiple Packages as we do in the Task-Sequence. And
    the same Task-sequence with the Multiple Package installation step
    works fine in our site-boundary where the ConfigMgr-server is installed.

    I know that the TS checks package dependencies before executing the TS. That's not possible with Multiple packages since they are variable dependant. I think this is somehow related although it doesn't explain why my client can't authenticate properly.

    Any ideas?

  • SCCM 2012 report on computers with local shares and share permissions

    Very new to SCCM 2012, want to put together a report to show computers with local shares and the permissions on those shares (for security purposes, need to investigate any systems that have open shares_.
    Managed to add and now collecting information that populates v_gs_share and I have a handle on the report itself, just wondering how to collect the share permissions - I've seen other qustions on the boards that are similar but reference earlier versions
    of SCCM so wondering how to do it in 2012.
    Thanks

    So, where are you at?  The script is running, and the clients have the data in their local WMI namespace, root\cimv2\sms_sharepermissions ?
    So all that's left is to modify hardware inventory to pull that custom WMI Namespace in?  If so, it's not too horrid.  Take note of a workstation (or server) to which you have remote rights to; and which has run the script, so that on THAT specific
    machine, root\cimv2\SMS_SharePermissions exists.
    In your CM12 Console, Administration, Client Settings.  Right-click "Default Client Settings", Properties.  On the left, select "hardware inventory".  then on the right, Set classes..., now the fun part.
    Add...
    Connect..., and put in ThatServerOrWorkstation (for computername), and wmi namespace is root\cimv2.  Click the option "recursive", Connect.  (the trick here is rights to the target).
    From the results, it might be easiest to click on "classname" at the top for sorting, then go find SMS_SharePermissions.  Select that, ok ok ok ok (however many times you need to agree); and... we're done here.  Sit and wait for inventory to report
    that data up.  If you're paranoid, you can monitor dataldr.log; and force policy refreshes and hinv deltas on some boxes; but the key is patience.  if you think you've waited long enough; you probably haven't.  ;)
