Remoting: NET USE on DFS Share, error 1312
Hello,
we are having the following issue:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;968264&sd=rss&spid=11737
BUG:
When psremoting (or winrs-ing) onto a client Win7x64 machine, trying to mount a
DFS UNC, it fails with the following error.
[client-1]: PS C:\Users\user\Documents> net use x:\\server\dfsshare /User:company\username ******
net.exe : System error 1312 has occurred.
+ CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: (System error 1312 has occurred.:String) [], RemoteException
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : NativeCommandError
A specified logon session does not exist. It may already have been terminated.
On the same machine, when mounting another share (sysvol) it does not fail.
[client-1]: PS C:\Users\user\Documents> net use x:\\server\sysvol
/User:company\username ******
The command completed successfully.
If I run the same command on any client machine it does fail with the same error.
If I run the same command locally on that same client (client-1) as logged on interactive user, it does not fail.
If you are still looking for the answer to this, I believe it stems from the namespace server not liking the anonymous request caused by the doule-hop. I was able to get around it by first doing
net use \\domain.com\dfsnamespace /user:Domain\username ********
and then
net use \\domain.com\dfsnamespace\dfsshare\subfolder /user:Domain\username ********
and it fixed the problem.
Hope this helps.

Net Use give error 67 when trying to mount network share in Windows PE
I am trying to deploy Windows 7 Pro by PXE booting Windows PE5 and applying a WIM file over a network share. The problem that I am running into is that I get an system error 67. I can ping the server with the network share with both the IP
and the FQDN, but whether I use the machine name OR the IP I get a system error 67. I verified that the account that I am using to connect has permissions, but even excluding the user name and waiting for it to prompt me for a user name gives the same
error. Any idea what is going on?Check : http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/9c429bef-edf0-4bad-83a3-644e6ba28ea8/net-use-system-error-67?forum=winservergen

Error message when mapping to a network drive of a DFS share on Windows 7
Hi,
We are getting the following error when mapping to a network drive of a DFS share on Windows 7:
“The mapped network drive could not be created because the following error has occurred:
A specified logon session does not exist. It may already have been terminated."
In our case, the user logs on his workstation using his regular domain account, then maps to the network DFS share using the service account of an application.
There is a fix from Microsoft (MS KB968264). But this fix requires disabling the "Network access: Do not allow storage of credentials or .NET Passports for network authentication” property. This is against the Microsoft own best practices (Network access:
“Do not allow storage of passwords and credentials for network authentication” should be set to
ENABLED), and is NOT acceptable for us for obvious security reasons.
Question: Does anyone know an alternative fix to this issue that does not introduce security risks?
Thank you in advance!
MdjonaAgain I have tried this, but in my program if I try to save to the a drive when no disk is inserted, the JOptionPane i want to display is not coming up.
the system prints out
java.io.FileNotFoundException: A:\image.jpg <The device is not ready>
If that makes any sense to you -

RVIs this music purchased back in DRM days? I don't actually have any iTunes music so I can't test with my iTunes 7.5, but I know that without iTunes 10 you cannot even connect to the store anymore. I wouldn't think that would require an active connection to the store all the time, otherwise how could you play music on a computer in the middle of nowhere? Did you do something to trigger iTunes suddenly wanting to connect and check on machine authorization?

Hello, i hope someone can help me with this tricky situation.
The plan is to move AD from 2003R2 name "DC" to a server 2012 "DC2"

I have as a last option the burflags issue, i tried this with the option D2, but i think i have done it wrong, because the netlogon share is gone on the old DC. i took a backup of the files and folders before
i did this. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290762/en-us But i am a little confused on which server i am going to set the D4 value on now? COuld someone help? Best regards AkselHello Dirk
And thank you for your answer, in regards of the KB, do i have to follow the steps regarding:
Global vs. replica set specific reinitialization
You can locate the replica set specific
BurFlags
registry key by determining the GUID for the replica set that you want to configure. To determine which GUID
corresponds to which replica set and configure a restore, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type cmd and then press ENTER.
In the Command box, type net stop ntfrs.
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type regedit and then press ENTER.
To determine the GUID that represents the replica set that you want to configure, follow these steps:
Locate the following key in the registry:
KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NtFrs\Parameters\Replica Sets
Below the Replica Sets subkey, there are one or more subkeys that are identified by a GUID. In the left pane, click the GUID, and then in the right
pane note the Data that is listed for the Replica Set Root value. This file system path will indicate which replica set is represented by this GUID.
Repeat step 4 for each GUID that is listed below the Replica Sets
And so on?
I have only thos 2 DC's in the network... -
We are using the Azure server for our web services. Server is generating an error "Unable to connect to the remote server". What is this error means
Hello,
Did you means that you use the Windows Azure Virtual Machine DNS name as the server name in the Reporting Server Web Services URL?
For example:
Report server:http://uebi.cloudapp.net/reportserver
Report manager:http://uebi.cloudapp.net/reports
If you want to connect to Report Manager on the virtual machine from a remote computer, you should create a virtual machine TCP Endpoint and open the port in the virtual machine’s firewall. By default, the report server listens for HTTP requests
on port 80.

Hi,
I use the command " use * \\computername\share " to test the mapping of shared drives.
The target machine is a Win7 machine (and is in another subnet).
The lmhost file of the client machines contains the line
" IP address - computername #PRE "
to allow for name resolution.
I get a correct reply with "ping computername", which shows that name resolution at the level of the clients is all right.
However, when I try the "use * \\computername\share" command, it works fine if the client is a Win7 machine but gives me a "error 52 duplicate name" if the client is an XP machine.
Now, "computername" is NOT the NETBIOS name of the target computer but another name I use for sake of facility (the NETBIOS name of the target machine is a complex one and makes it identification by the end-user difficult when it appears in the
drop list of the GUI command "map network drive" (which is what the end-user will use for mapping).
Is it possible that the client WinXP tries checking "computername" against the real NETBIOS name of the target machine and says that there is duplication because they do not match, whereas the client Win7 does not do that or accepts that "computername"
is not the real NETBIOS name ?Dear Carey,
Thank you for your reply. However, what the link describes is a situation opposite to what I described.
The link is about TWO computers with the same NETBIOS name on a s single local network. Then the conflict is obvious since that NETBIOS name will have to point to two IP addresses.
What I described was trying to map a shared disk on a a SINGLE computer with NETBIOS name "A" and a given unique public IP address (vvv.xxx.yyy.zzz), but to which I referred to in the lmhost file of the calling
computer (located in another local network) with another NETBIOS name ("B") .
Thus, the target computer is a names "A" in its local network but the lmhost file in the calling computer has a line "vvv.xxx.yyy.zzz
B #PRE". This when I got the "Duplicate name error".
I do not understand the error because the lmhost file should simply allow the calling computer to make name resolution (and say "B" is IP address vvv.xxx.yyy.zzz) to make the connection (which is what we get if we use the command "net use
* \\vvv.xxx.yyy.zzz\share" [this command always work]). But what I was suspecting is that the calling computer gets confused when it sees that the target computer with address vvv.xxx.yyy.zzz has a NETBIOS name different ("A")
from the one it was supposed to call ("B").
Am I correct ?
As I explained in my original post, I uses "B" to name the target computer on the calling computer because "A" is a quite fancy and difficult name that the end user will never understand or remember.
If I name the target computer "A" in the lmhost file (i.e. its real NETBIOS name), I do not have any problem. -
We are using Windows 2008 R2 server.
I can map a network drive to a Sharepoint site either using the Windows Explorer Map Netwrok drive utility or using the command line.
Either way works fine.
However, If I take the command I put in the command line and put it in a dos batch file, the command fails with System Error 67.
The command I am using is:
Net use y: http://myoffice.company.net/international/sales/Shared%20Documents1/<//a>
This works from command line but not when run from a batch file.
any ideas? I have tried using the IP address instead but the same error comes up.Hi,

Cannot access local DFS shares while VPN is active
Hi
We use Windows Server 2008 Standard as a domain controller. It also hosts DFS. Although the namespaces are hosted on the server, the data is stored on a Windows 2008 Storage Server. We do not use DFS replication.
I have several DFS shares mapped on my Windows 7 client, which has just replaced my XP client, and can access them without any problems.
However, as soon as I connect to a remote network (located on a different domain - it has nothing to do with our network at all), I am unable to access our DFS shares. If I try to access a DFS share an error message pops up stating:
Location is not available
Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.
The first time I connected the VPN a network dialog popped up asking what type of network it was and I chose Work. After connecting via the VPN I use remote desktop to carry out daily maintenance on a server on the remote network.
Other local resources are available. I can ping machines via IP, name and FQDN. I can access the same DFS shares using UNC paths. So, although I receive the error message described above when accessing AD-name.local-backslash-share-name1 I have no trouble
accessing server-name-backslash-share-name1
As soon as I close the VPN connection normal functionality is restored and I can again access the DFS shares without any problems.
Can someone help me fix this, please? When this was setup on my XP machine I never experienced this problem.
Also, is there a way of typing LAN addresses without the forum software converting them to a customised hyperlink? Thanks!Thank you, fupin
Sabrina's suggestion to edit the pbk file worked. I changed the setting from 1 to 0 and connected to the remote network via the VPN and am still able to access the local DFS shares.
As per the OPs comments, the username and password I am using for the remote network are both different from the credentials I am using on the local network.
... take the steps in the KB 822707 to resolve it:
1). Locate the .pbk file that contains the entry that you dial. To do so, click Start, click Search, type *.pbk in the All or part of the file name box, and then
click Search.
2). Open the file in Notepad.
3). Locate the following entry: UseRasCredentials=1
4). Modify the entry to the following: UseRasCredentials=0
5). On the File menu, click Save, and the click Exit.
Cheers! -
I'm trying to isolate this problem with MDT..., unable to find a solution matching this error.
We have two sites, with a DFS replica between the servers, which works fine.
Server A: Windows 2012 R2 standard
Windows Automated Installation Kit for Windows 7
MDT 2012, Update 1
WDS configured for PXE boot
Distributed File Share
Server B: Windows 2008 R2 Standard
MDT 2012, Update 1
WDS configured for PXE boot
Distributed File Share
The local path on both servers is on E:\DFS-Deploymentshare
The DFS path is \\domain.com\it\deploymentshare
When deploying on Site A, the deployment run smooth without problems.
When deploying on Site B, the deployment fails to create connection to the share.
A connection to the deployment share (\\domain.com\it\deploymentshare) could not be made.
Connection OK. Possible cause: invalid credentials.
Pressing F8, to reach a command prompt. "ipconfig" shows an IP-address. I can PING the deployment server. I can mount the Deployment share using "net use" and providing the username/password added in the bootstrap.ini and "retry"
in the message box and the deployment continues.
In the BDD log i get this timeout:
<![LOG[Unable to connect to \\domain.com\it\deplomentshare. Sleeping for 5 seconds.
<![LOG[<Message containinng password has been suppressed>
<![LOG[Access is denied.
However everything is the same both in site A and B so this seems very strange!
The complete system has worked this way before.
Bootstrap.ini contains:
DeployRoot=\\domain.com\it\deploymentshare
UserDomain="domain"
UserID="mdt-account"
UserPassword="password"
I've been trying all I can think of, but Im still faced with this error and to keep in mind the same share working on another site.Ok, so by the sounds of it, there is something wrong with the share permissions (especially if your account works fine but the MDTserviceaccount does not work even when part of Domain Admins).
So you need to do the following:
Start in Site A:
Boot into WinPE on a workstation in site A
Ping server-a
Ping server-b
Run "net use * \\server-a\deploymentshare$ /user:DOMAIN\MDTserviceaccount"
Type in the password for MDTserviceaccount when prompted
Browse to the newly mapped drive and list the files/folders
Make sure you can see the relevant MDT folders, like Applications, Out-of-Box Drivers, etc
If all that works, then you can move to site B
Start in Site B:
Boot into WinPE on a workstation in site B
Ping server-a
Ping server-b
Run "net use * \\server-b\deploymentshare$ /user:DOMAIN\MDTserviceaccount"
Type in the password for MDTserviceaccount when prompted
Browse to the newly mapped drive and list the files/folders
Make sure you can see the relevant MDT folders, like Applications, Out-of-Box Drivers, etc
By going through all of the above, you should be able to see where the problem lies.
If all of the above works with no problems, then you have the details incorrectly specified in the BootStrap.ini (or possibly CustomSettings.ini). Confirm that you have the following specified in the relevant ini file:
DeployRoot
UserID
UserDomain
UserPassword
You can have a look in the help file if you need to confirm that these properties are configured correctly. Look under
Toolkit Reference - Properties - Property Definition in the help file.
Both Site A and Site B is successfully
I have changed the Password of deployuser to test if it is correct. and i have copy/pasted the password into the DC when changing the password.
I have tested the password by logging on to a client-pc with the deployuser as username and the temp password "Pa$$w0rd" successfully.
Both UserID, UserDomain and UserPassword is entered after the help file for Property Definition.
Please see the Bootstrap.ini and Customsettings.ini (NB! Servernames, Domainname and Passwords are fictive.)

Drives mapped via GPO, NET USE shows mapping but doesn't show up in Explorer - Win 8.1
Fresh install of Windows Enterprise 8.1
Connected PC to domain, logged in, drive mapping worked as it should.
Rebooted a few times after installing software that I normally install on my computers (from the same sources/locally from my file server, etc). Rebooted a few more times all is well.
A few reboots later, the only drive that is mapped is X: which is my user drive done via the user profile in AD. The rest of the mappings that normally show up done by the GPO no longer show up.
After some digging, and noticing no errors in any logs I ran NET USE in a CMD prompt window, low and behold the drives are actually mapped and I can access them via the CLI without issue. I can navigate via their mapped drive letters, etc.
They just don't show up in Windows Explorer at all and I cannot navigate to the drive letters via the address bar. Strangely enough, it still kinda works since the Downloads start menu item is mapped to a network drive and that still works (Q:\) and
Chrome can access it as well if I try to download something.
I'm really not sure what else to check/try here.
Have other Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 machines (my laptop) and all works just fine, so it's only this specific install on my desktop that is showing this issue.Hi,
There are several reasons causing the issue:
First, The problematic client doesn't reconnect to the target share at logon.
Please follow the steps to re-configure the mapped driver on the client and then check if the issue will re-occur.
Steps:
a. Open "My Computer"
b. Click on "Tools" and then select "Map Network Driver"
c. input the \\ipaddressofserver\sharename to give the path of the share
d. Check "Reconnect at logon"
e. Drive gets mapped
f. Double click on the drive to check.
Second, Antivirus software or Windows Firewall may block the mapped share.
If there is any Antivirus software and the Windows Firewall is enabled on the problematic client. If so, please disable them to check if the issue can be resolved.
Third, Fast Logon Optimization is enabled on the clients.
The fast logon feature may affect the display and drive letter assignment of a mapped network drive. As a result, the drive may have been mapped; however, the user on client cannot see it in Windows Explorer. He may recognize it as a failed network drive
mapping. This is the reason why we usually suggest you to disable fast logon on the clients via a GPO, and please check if the mapped network drive will be occur under this circumstance.
Please also configure the following group policy setting to disable Fast Logon Optimization to see if the issue still exists on the problematic clients.
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Logon\Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon
If we cannot get this issue fixed, please post back the event log related to this issue.
