Remove a proxy setting via ssh or ARD?

Is it possible to delete a proxy config from the command line? I have looked at scutil, networksetup, ifconfig, ipconfig, systemsetup and scselet command, some of which will SHOW me a proxy config which is helpful, but I need to remove the proxy settings altogether.
Im going to be removing our proxy server this year (no more proxy), and will need to remove all proxy settings from all my Mac systems. Id like to script it somehow, or at least be able to do it remotely via ssh or ARD.

I dont think it works in Leopard. For example, when I type the related command:
"sudo networksetup -getwebproxy Ethernet"
I get the following answer:
Enabled: No
Server:
Port: 0
Authenticated Proxy Enabled: 0
(even though the proxy is configured and working and can be tested. Thus, networksetup doesnt have a clue about the proxy server configs in the Network system prefs pane.)
The "scutil --proxy" command does show me my current proxy configurations (similar to what the Network pres pane shows), but the command doesnt allow me to disable or delete them. Example:
<dictionary> {
ExceptionsList : <array> {
0 : *.local
1 : 169.254/16
ProxyAutoConfigURLString : http://wpad/proxy.pac
FTPPassive : 1
ProxyAutoConfigEnable : 1
HTTPEnable : 0
(I get the same response regardless if I type
"networksetup -setwebproxystate "Ethernet" off"
or
"networksetup -setwebproxystate "Ethernet" on"

  • Does Resetting Internet Explorer Maintenance settings from GPO will also remove the proxy set in IE by a third party tool when the GPO refreshes for the first time

    Hi,
We have two GPO's with IE maintenance (Preference Mode Configured)
    The settings it has are
    1. Automatically detect configuration settings - Set to Enabled.
    2. Automatic Browser configuration - Not configured.
We do not have proxy value set in IE through this GPO.
We have proxy set in IE through a third party tool (TPT) which updates the proxy at logon event 5 and 10.
Does Resetting Internet Explorer Maintenance settings from these GPO's also clear proxy set in IE by third party tool after the first GPO refresh.
I am sure the second time when the GP refreshes, the client won't find any IEM settings and hence there is no question of the proxy set in IE by TPT to erase. It is only the first time of the GPO refresh that I am concerned about.
Can someone please guide as I am planning to do the same in our production and concerned about the downtime caused due to the proxy being removed if at all for the first time.

It will disable the proxy server option in Internet Options (untick the box), but will still store your proxy details.
    Thanks
    Ryan

  • Pushing FireFox proxy setting via NAL

I need to be able to push a change to the FireFox browser proxy setting
using ZenWorks. The setting is in a file called user.js, which FireFox
reads and adds to prefs.js when FireFox starts. I can create the user.js
file, but it needs to be copied to
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application
    Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default , where "xxxxxxxx" appears
to be a random series of characters chosen by FireFox when the FireFox
profile is created (the one for my profile is "yo1j350j.default"). This
is where I am having the problem.
Ok, I know that I can use %Appdata% to point to the user's application
data directory. However, how do I address the "xxxxxxxx.default directory
when it is different for each user? Is there some way to create a custom
macro in ZenWorks that the Application Launcher can use?
I suppose I could push the entire application over again, but this seems
like gross overkill when all I want to do is copy a text file with two
short lines in it to the workstations.
We have a series of workstation changes that need to be rolled out to
multiple locations - and this is the only one that I am having trouble
automating. Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Ted

  • How do you ALLOW SSL through 8080 Proxy set via the browser?

    1) I installed Sun Proxy Server
    2) Requested Verisign Certificate
    3) Installed the Certificate
    4) I enabled the Security to use the Certificate server-cert (Configure HTTP Client)
    5) Set up the browser to use the proxy server and port 8080
    6) I am unable to access our https:// application.
    7) Now, the question is, how do I use it. The help procedures do not tell you how you use it. Using Etheral and it shows the following errors:
    CONNECT w2k3-interop:8443 HTTP/1.0

    8) What I'm I missing?
    9) What do I have to configure in order to get it working?

Try adding this line to your obj.conf.
what it does is to allow ssl traffic to 8443 port for any webserver.

  • Bug between JRockit and X11 forwarding via ssh

I have encountered what appears to be a bug in the interaction of JRockit with X11 ssh forwarding.
When running any Java GUI application on a remote machine using X11 forwarding via ssh, a variety of problems occur. For example:
    --- cut here ---
    % mitrion-ide
The program '' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAtom (invalid Atom parameter)'.
      (Details: serial 189 error_code 5 request_code 20 minor_code 0)
      (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
--- cut here ---That's the good case. When running the rmmlite application (available at https://rmml.dev.java.net/servlets/ProjectDocumentList?folderID=437&expandFolder=437&folderID=438 ), I experience what appears to be a near-lockup of my local workstation.
Neither of these problems occur if I set my DISPLAY to not use ssh X11 forwarding. Likewise, non-Java applications work just fine with ssh X11 forwarding. Therefore the problem seems to be limited to the Java + ssh X11 forwarding combination.
I have a suitable workaround (i.e. setting the DISPLAY variable to avoid ssh X11 forwarding), but I thought this was worth bringing to BEA's attention. I'd also be curious to know if others have run into similar difficulties.

    Brent,
it would be nice to know if this problem is specific to the JRockit JDK or
if you also can reproduce it using the corresponding Sun JDK 1.4.2. Please
do also try with a later version such as latest JRockit JDK 5.0.
    Thanks

  • How to remove the option "Set as default background..." from the right-click menu on a picture, for all users.

Hi! I would like to know if there is any possibility to remove the option "Set as default background..." from the right-click menu on a picture, for all users. I know that's possible to edit userContent.css or userChrome.css, but this concerns only a profile at a time and being in a domain, I would like to set this for all people using Firefox.
Can it be possible to edit a mozilla.cfg file to get the same result?
Thank you in advance for help and tips.

AFAIK then there is no way to do that system wide. You can only do that via userChrome.css or an extension like the Menu Editor per profile .You can install extensions globally, but the user will have to enable them anyway. That is not required for userChrome.css code.

  • Connection hange while trying to connect via ssh.

    Hi all,
I have this problem and i fixed it, just wanted to understand the logic behiend it.
I tried to login to a machine via ssh.
After providing the username and password, the connection hang until you press CTRL -C.
I checked DNS configuration, and some other stuff.
The problem was a NFS entry in the vfstab that was unreachable.
When i removed it, the connection went smoothlly.
My question is, why that entry caused that problem ?
    Thanks!

At login, the shell runs 'quota -v' to display any over-quota conditions that might exist.
If the NFS mount was not mounted with "noquta", then it will send an RPC request to the server. If the server is down, that request will take 60 seconds to time out. If you have multiple mounts to the server, they might run sequentially.
The login should complete after a minute or so, but most users won't wait that long.

  • PROXY SETTING ERROR - LOADING JAVA APPLET FAILED

I have the most current version of Java (confirmed) installed l.5.0. When I do the Java Virtual Test, I fail at the proxy setting with the red X. I have tried everything recommended at "Configuration Check List" and I have also chatted with microsoft techs who recommended that I register certain .dll's among other things. Nothing has worked. Is the Java Control Panel the same thing as the Java Plug-in Control Panel? I only have the JCP. Could that be the problem? I also get a message in other areas that scripting is not enabled. Is this all related?

Thought I should add this to further explain what is happening ... Hope you can help!

  • Send a notification to the proxy when he is removed as proxy

We have a requirement to send a notification to the proxy when he is removed as proxy.
There is one out of box notification to the proxy when assigned. But could not figure out an option to send a notification when proxy is removed.
    Is there a way?
    Thnx

yes, there is a OOTB system property called XL.ProxyNotificationTemplate to tell user that he is a proxy. But as far as I know there is no notification to 'proxy removed' .
1-You can create a system property and add SQL's into it. Please check this link I replied before: Re: Exception while setting security question
2-You can create a trigger into database (proxy table=PXD) that start some procedures(including e-mail notification) if proxy user is removed.
    I hope this helps.

  • Changing VNC password via ssh

I am trying to change the built in VNC password remotely via ssh. Where is the VNC password stored? Can I remove the password line to reset it? Any other ideas on this issue. Yes, I did forget the it.

  • I can't load internet after resetting Firefox due to proxy setting problem

I reset Firefox because I received a message that I could do this to speed up the starting process. When it finished I am not able to get into the internet. i get a message that the proxy setting is not working. I don't know how to fix this problem.

    Separate Issue; Update your
    Flash Player '''v15.0.0.189 http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/'''
Type '''about:preferences#advanced'''<Enter> in the address bar.
    Under '''Advanced,''' Select '''Network.'''
Look for '''Configure How Firefox Connects''' and press the '''Settings''' button.
    Check the settings.
Some problems occurs when your Internet security program was set
to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your
updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow
    Firefox to connect to the Internet again;
    * Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
    * Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see
    '''[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/configure-firewalls-so-firefox-can-access-internet Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet.]''' {web link}

  • Exec command via SSH in existing X-Session

    Hello,
i want to start the media player app via SSH in an existing X-Session (real display) on the ssh target (ssh user = x-session user, all same machine). I do not mean X-forwarding! After the app is started, i want to disconnect the ssh connection and all should be still running. Any ideas?
    Greetings,
    Sebastian

    The difference:
    #remote display
    ssh user@host DISPLAY=:0 some_command
    # although you might assume it get's passed through ssh, it does not and is displayed on the remote machine
    ssh -X user@host DISPLAY=:0 some_command
    # local display
    DISPLAY=:0 ssh -X user@host some_command
Also have a look at the man pages of disown and nohup to learn how to remove the program from your running shell, so you can close the ssh connection.
By the way: export only means, that the variable is exported to the shell. If I run "export TERMINAL=xterm", then until I close the shell, I can for example "echo $TERMINAL" to read "xterm". The shell is always on the host you are connected to. I assume there is a way to bind a remote X server to a DISPLAY (say :100), so you could DISPLAY=:100 to automatically show it on the remote host (or your local host, depending on what machine you sit in front of). I only assume because there is always a way, but I have never tested it or really thought about it.

  • External proxy routing via MAC-LIST PERMIT

I have a school class where I want to provide internet connectivity.
Only certain computers should be able to connect to the internet, based on the allowed MAC address.
Of those who are allowed to connect to the internet, all browsing needs to go via an external proxy-server, for example ws.proxyserver.com:8080. Normally such an option can be set in the browser setup, but I would like this be set in the router.
Additionally, another computer should be able to access the internet without going via the external proxy.(Voip calls)
I saw that the CISCO 877 and PIX Firewall 501 and similar products that support the IOS CLI have the MAC-LIST PERMIT option but I don't know if and how the external proxy-server via can be accomplished.

Refer the command reference of the pix for more details about this command.

  • Neighbors Mac mini (10.3.9) was exploited via SSH

My neighbor called me a couple of weeks ago to say she couldn't log in to her mini. It wouldn't accept her password. I fixed it but last weekend the same thing happened again. I fixed it but decided to look around. I found a couple of perl files in her home folder, a few tgz files, and some software for running a shoutcast server. I knew right away someone had gained access to her machine. All because when I set her mini up, I turned Remote connectivity via SSH on. I checked her bash history file and found that someone had downloaded those files using the curl command from some Romanian sites. The files were definitely cracker related, although I don't remember exactly what the names were. I think one of them was spoofer or something like that.
I'm going to send an email to Apple on this in hopes that they add a security patch to 10.3.9.
I have since reinstalled OS X and NOT turned on Remote Connectivity.

    Hi Dale,
Are you saying that you think that Apple enables the finger daemon by default? I don't believe that to be the case. On Tiger, the /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/finger.plist file that ships with the system contains the following line:
    <key>Disabled</key>
On Panther, the /etc/xinetd.d/finger file that ships with Panther contains the line:
    disable = yes
Thus, on both systems, the fingerd daemon doesn't respond to finger requests from external systems. I tested that and the only thing that finger returns is the name of the remote system in square brackets.
Also, the script kiddy attack to which I referred is nowhere near that sophisticated. I haven't actually read the script but the list of users it tries appears to always be the same. I agree with you that it might be possible to gain knowledge about the usernames on many systems, especially those running fingerd. However, excepting for finger and maybe LDAP, the methods for doing that would likely be different for different systems. This script goes for quantity instead of quality so it doesn't spend enough time on any one system to do any probing.
As Michael says, Mac OS X ships with all services turned off, including fingerd. I don't think that Apple's firewall tool is of any use because it's "all-or-nothing". Opening a port to the world or blocking it is no different from turn the corresponding service on or off. However, I've never seen a GUI tool that did much better so I don't see that as a ding against Apple.
I've read too many of your extremely knowledgeable posts to think that you rant arbitrarily. Of course people with such excellent reputations are allotted 5 random rants per calendar year here so you're allowed. If you post the details about the problems you're having, perhaps we could help. You should be able to solve almost any issues about services with a solid firewall.
