Remove illuminated edges

Hi, I am working on a packaging project for a cookware product at the moment. Can anyone suggest me as to how I can correct the glowing edges of the product as marked in the images attached. This does not create a problem if the image is placed ona white background but on the black or a darker background , it does create a problem.

If you feather the Selection and move the curve as indicated it should take you to solid black.
Here is another approach to losing  the white line using the image you just posted:
Make a dupe of the image.
Image > Adjustjments > Invert.
Replicate the Curve shape shown here, then use the Brush to paint in white to lose everything but the line shown.
With the layer that has the black curved line on the layer above the Background, change the line Layer to Multiply.
Use the Opacity slider on the arc layer to bring a whisper of shape back into the base of the bowl

    Need: 1) File #1 - I need to adjust the pixels on an *.eps file to a maximum of 600 pixels. The entire drawing is a single layer to my knowledge.
              2) File #2: - I also need to adjust the rough edges of a 'cloud' that surrounds some text.  Also, *.eps.  The 'cloud' is separate from the text.  If I remember correctly, I need to 'fill in' the 'cloud'.
    Both file sizes are <1MB.
    Eventually, I'd like to combine File #1 with File #2.

  • Removing white edges

    Hello,
    I have a picture that I have extracted from its background in photoshop. Then I place it on another background in my Indesign file. The edges on the picture appear as a fine white line.
    Is there a way in Indesign to make the edges of a picture transparent?
    Thank you

    As a mere technical footnote to that, the white edges appear because you selected them to be white ...
    GIF does not support alpha-level transparency (any level from 0 to 100%) -- it is limited to either transparent or not. Since GIFs are usually used on web pages, and should have visually smooth edges even with this on-off transparency, Photoshop can interpolate the edge colors.  The Save-For-Web dialog (which you presumably used) has an option to change the "background color" -- which is the color on which the image would be placed. Those are stil solid colors, not transparent: the proper alpha mix of the would-be background and the edge color.
    (And if you are thinking "That must mean I can change the background to the color I used in my document", go back and read Scott's message.)

    You can drop back to the original method of removing label borders -
    paint them transparent. (select "T" as the color, then paint the label)

  • Remove edges in closely curved strokes?

    As you can see, the base for the shape is fluid and curved, but since it is so close and big it creates corners. Is there any way, besides expanding the stroke and curving it manually, to remove the edges? Preferrably while still maintaining the editabiliy of the stroke.

    Baard,
    You might also (working on a copy) try a combination of Handle and Anchor Point adjustment, changing the directions and lengths of the relevant Handles and moving the Anchor Points a bit about.
    When you look at the screenshot, the spine is rounded, but not enough: it has to be much more rounded to also have the concave edge of the stroke rounded.
    You should be aware that it is necessary to change the actual shape. The task is to get as close as possible to the overall appearance.
    The obvious combination would be a direction somewhat (further) away from the rounding and a moderate shortening, probably with a limited move.

  • How do I remove the egdes of an image?

    Hello,
    I am on Illustrator 2014, and I can't figure out how I can remove the edges of my photo.
    The photo I have imported is shaped as a rectangle, and I want it to fit inside a Round rectangle frame.
    So how do I cut out the edges?
    The frame will be placed in the middle of a scene so I cant simply hide the edges by placing a shape over them, as it would overlay the background.
    Picture:
    You can see the orange edges I want to hide/delete.

    Hi 2D,
    Here's what I'd do:
    1 - Select the frame and the photo.
    2 - Click with the right mouse button and select "clipping mask"
    This way the photo will be shaped after the rectangle, but the black line will disappear. If you want to keep it, copy the rectangle before and adjust it above the clipping mask later.
    Hope this helped

  • Smart Objects mis-behaving in Photoshop 5.1?

    Hi there
    I'm using Pshop 5.1 on Win 7 64bit
    Cince Adobe introduced Smart Objects in CS2 (I think it was CS2 - I jumped from 7) they've becom I standard part of my workflow that I use all the time
    However, having upgraded from CS4 to the latest, smart objects don't seem to be working correctly - the problem is when saving them in order to return to my original image (with the smart objects contenst updated) I am asked to 'save as' - and the Temp folder is displayed - in other words, Photoshop is forcing me to save my smart object as a separate file which I'd then have to re-import into my original image, which would completely defeat the poin of using them in the first place
    It doesn't always do this..
    But I don't think it ever did it in CS4...
    Is there a Photoshop expert out there who can tell me why this is hapenning?
    Is it a bug?
    A functionality change?
    Can it be fixed?  It is a royal pain.  For example in my current image, I drag and drop an image in from a WIndows Explorer window, and Photoshop makes it a smart object - I click OK.  I then open the smart object, use the Quick Selection tool to remove white edges that I don't want, double clcik the layer to turn it from 'Background' to 'Layer 0', and apply a layer mask to remove the white background I've selected.  I then save, and instead I'ma sked to Save As, as I've described
    I'd appreciate your comment
    Thanks
    jON

    Is the original a jpeg? In that case transparency or layers are not supported, which is why you get Save As.
    If you flatten it, it should behave normally. Or better, save the original to a different format first.

  • Widescreen on SD

    Hey Everyone... first time posting here in the iMovie area.
    I'm an animator and I got some footage of my work ripped from a DVD in wide screen format. How can I get my other SD (4:3) clips cut in with my wide screen clips for an SD presentation without having my wide screen stuff automatically smashed to fit SD? Does that make sense?
    Do I need another program besides iMovie to convert my 16:9 clips to 4:3 without squishing the image? I know I would have to have letter boxing, and that is OK. Any Ideas?

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions!
    You can make a 'mask' in Photoshop, or Graphic Converter, or any other graphics program, to put top and bottom edges on your 16:9 material, so that it'll appear 'letterboxed' in iMovie.
    You could also mask the 16:9 footage to remove its edges, so that it appears in 4:3 ratio.
    Dan explains this - and almost every other problem and its solution - in his comprehensive "Unofficial iMovie FAQ". Well worth a look, to try and find the answer to any problem before posting here.
    Good Luck!

    Click on the rectangle thumbnail in the Layers panel, and
    check to see
    if a stroke shows up in the Property inspector. If there is
    one, change
    it to none.

  • Finding all cycles in a directed graph

    Hi all,
    I have a task I believe I will solve relatively easy if I manage to detect all cycles within a graph that I can build from the data given.
    I googled for a while but I couldn't find some explanation that I can use. I came upon refrerences to some publication referred as "Reingold, Nievergelt and Deo 1977", however I could not find some online resources from that ?book?.
    AFAIK I can detect whether thre is a cycle using DFS, but I need all cycles.
    Please guide me to some online resource that can help me find a suitable algorithm, or if you know such algorithm please post its name so I can find information about it.
    Thanks for your cooperation
    Mike

    Thanks for all those replies!
    I still haven't implemented a solution and I have some questions. I googled and skimmed through a book I have and I came up with the definition that topological sorted graph means that all 'paths' lead in one direction (such ordering of the vertices V that for each edge(i, j) in E vertex i is to the left of vertex j).
    If I understand correctly your idea, it is to first order the vertices by some criterion and then remove all edges leading in a direction opposite to the sorting direction.
    I am not quite sure I understand correctly how to choose the ordering of the vertices. In the beginning of the sorted vertex list we must have vertices with the most possible outgoing edges /as sum of weights/ and least incoming(because these are to be removed), did I understand the idea correctly?
    I thought about another solution but I cannot estimate how heavy it will be as processing time: to perform search(maybe DFS) and if I find a cycle - to remove the least heavy edge and continue the search from the position before passing this edge.
    I guess it is not applicable since it can escalate to a very time-heavy task, especially if each time we go back.
    So I think I will implement the Idea YATArchivist proposed - sorting vertices and removing back-edges, and we'll see what will happen. After all - it's only a contest, I can only win or not win, there are no losers ;)
    Thank you for giving your valuable time for sharing thoughts in this thread

  • Offset Path in an Action Question

    I have an action that performs several steps on a selected object, namely removing rounded edges, changing the stroke to a specific color, and setting the line width to a specific measurement. What I would like to add to this Action is a final step where the Offset Path is invoked (easily done) and then the original object is deleted (I'm stumped). When using Offset Path, both the original path and the new offset path are selected, so I can't just add a delete step. While this might be better suited for a script, I'd really rather keep it as a function key enabled script. Any guidance will be appreciated.

    Thanks for the reply. Yeah I know that, its just a little tedious. It would be nice if they made it a little more accessible like the scripting languages in a lot of 3d packages.

  • Uniqe object in list

    Hi. I have a program something like below.
    List<Edge> openEdge = new ArrayList<Edge>();
    List<Edge>closedEdge = new ArrayList<Edge>();
    openEdge.add(e);  // e is a edge object
    while(openEdge.size() > 0){
         Edge process = openEdge.remove(0);
         if(!closedEdge.contains(process){
               closedEdge.add(process);
         if(//ceratin condition met){
               List<Edge> outList = graph.getNode(process.getStartid).getOutList();
              for(int i = 0; i < outList.size(); i++){
                   Edge relax = outList.get(i);
                   if(!openEdge.contains(relax)){
                          openEdge.add(relax);
    }I want my entries in openEdge and closedEdge without duplicate entry, I mean openEdge and closedEdge can have same Edge entry, but within the same list, duplicate entry is not allowed. I know java API provides Set implementation such as HashSet and LinkedHashSet.
    But the problem I am facing is, I want to remove the Edges from the list in the order of their insertion.
    Using List is not a problem at all. However, when i have a huge number of entries for each list, the computational time degrades and program becomes very slow.
    The openEdge list entries go around 20,000.
    What i did to make the program faster was i created two hashset and used it to prevent the insertion of same entry. This makes the program fast, but requires extra memory to hold the HashSet.
    Is there a better solution for this? The closedEdge always starts with 0, and openEdge with 1, and the entries is of around 20,000. The contains method is making the program very slow as it requires checking the whole list,in worst case, each time in the insertion procedure.
    Any advice on how to go on with this.
    Thank you.

    Let's see if posting this message finally works (fcking slow forum today!)
    If you try it like this, it should get considerable improve the speed:
    class EdgeList {
        private Set<Edge> edgeSet;
        private List<Edge> edgeList;
        public EdgeList() {
            edgeSet = new HashSet<Edge>();
            edgeList = new ArrayList<Edge>();
        public void add(Edge e) {
            if(edgeSet.add(e)) { // true if edgeSet did not already contain 'e'
                edgeList.add(e); // will be in order of insertion
        public List<Edge> getEdges() {
            return edgeList;
    class Edge {
        // don't forget tho override the equals(...) and hashCode() methods!
    }

  • I dont work in Ai often.

    I have a ball in a box i need to remove the white behind the ball. In indesign i would ctr/alt/shift/k together to remove the edges, how in Ai?

    So the ball is a pixel image?
    Use Photoshop
    or draw a mask with the pen tool. If it's a circle, just use the ellipse tool and then make a clipping mask.
    Maybe you could also create a mask via Image trace.

  • Groups of independent knots

    Ol!
    I am looking for an algorithm that gives me groups of knots in a net-structure.
    Every knot is connected to others ... etc ...
    But I want the groups in a way, that the knots in a group have no direct connection to each other!
    In the end every knot sould be in one group and the number of groups should be minimal.
    Where can i find Informations about that?

    I apologize for being so terse in my previous reply; you are indeed looking for cliques. Allow me to
    explain. For any graph, a graph complement exists. It can be constructed as follows --
    1) for any pair of vertices v_i v_j, ad an edge e_ij if it not already exists;
    2) remove all edges v_kl from the graph that were originally present.
    A graph plus its complement yield a 'complete graph'. If two vertices v_i and v_j didn't have an
    edge e_ij, the complement of the graph will contain this edge. A group of vertices not directly
    reachable in the original graph make up a clique in the graph complement.
    Finding those cliques, or '(maximal) complete sub-graphs' is an NP-complete problem though.
    Suppose n cliques exist C_1, C_2 ... C_n. Remove any clique C_i that is a subset of the union
    of one or more other cliques. Repeat this step until no clique can be remove anymore. The
    cliquest represent the disjoint groups you're looking for.
    kind regards,
    Jos

  • How do I remove dirt from the illuminated apple on the chassis?

    Hi all -
    Asking a fairly insignificant (with regards to functionality, though if you're obsessive over cleanliness like I am, not insignificant at all) question with regards to cleaning slight dirt buildup around the edges of the illuminated apple on the chassis of the MacBook (as I write this, I notice there's also slight buildup around the edges of the trackpad). These issues are entirely aesthetic - they haven't affected functionality in the slightest - but given that this is something I look at, regularly, I'd like to keep it in as good aesthetic condition as possible. I'm hesitant to do much to attempt to clean it out, with my initial attempts proving fruitless, and my fear of damaging anything preventing me from taking any further measures, since I really have no idea what to do. Has anyone had this problem? Can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance!

    Save your sigh, it doesn't suggest that anywhere on the page you linked to me and I've already made it clear I have no frame of reference on what to do. I'll try a compressed air duster in the morning when I can go pick one up.
    For reference:
    "Portables
    MacBook, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air
    When cleaning the outside of your MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air, first shut down your computer and unplug the power adapter. Then use a damp, soft, lint-free cloth to clean the computer's exterior. Avoid getting moisture in any openings. Do not spray liquid directly on the computer. Don't use aerosol sprays, solvents, abrasives, or cleaners containing hydrogen peroxide that might damage the finish.
    To clean the screen on your MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air, first shut down the computer and unplug the power adapter. Dampen the included cleaning cloth with just water and wipe the screen. Do not spray liquid directly onto the screen."
    THAT is what is on the page you linked to me. I have done all of those things. They have fixed a number of my problems. They have not fixed the problem I am inquiring about.
    Thank you for your time! Maybe in the future you'll learn to be less rude to people who don't know as much as you, or, alternatively, you'll learn to read through the links you send before attempting to make others feel bad for not catching information that was never provided.
