Renamed parent directory doesn't stick

I have a parent directory located on a remote volume on my server. Lightroom chose to name my directory,
2006 at /Volumes/Photos/JimsPhotos/15D RAW
This is because there's also another directory on the server named,
2006 at /Volumes/Photos/JimsPhotos/1D60 RAW
But I'd rather see the names as, 2006 5D RAW and 2006 D60 RAW. However, when I change the directory names, they stick until I exit and relaunch LR when they get changed back to their originals -- and of course the name is so long I can't read it in the Library.
Bug or ??
[MacBook Pro, 2gb ram, 200gb hd, OS X 10.4.8]

I just did some experimenting and I've come to these conclusions.
Shared Volumes (or the top level shares on a computer) will go into devices, and you have to set them as login items also to get them to mount at startup. Making an alias to them will also work if you don't want to have them connect at login.
Folders within shares will only go into Places. You don't have to make an alias of the folder, though.
I think it has to do with the Mount Point. As the Volumes are Devices in the unix world, they can only show up if mounted. However, the folders are just aliases to network locations so they stay put.
So, if you have multiple volumes that you don't want to automount at login, mount them, put them in the Devices section, and make aliases to them in a folder that you place in the Dock. Then, you can mount them from the dock and they should then appear in the sidebar.
Place any folders in the Places section, or do the same as you do with the Volumes.

  • Server directory doesn't stick in sidebar

    Tiger allowed me to maintain a specific server directory in the sidebar — even after restarting the Mac it would be there. Now, with Leopard, if I want that server directory to show, I have to put it there EVERY time I start the Mac. Having only the top level of a server appear under “SHARED” it not useful. Nobody in our office uses the top level of the server — everyone uses something 5 or 6 levels deep. Isn’t there a way to make that directory ALWAYS appear like it did with Tiger? Apple support said there is a way to do, but could not officially explain how because it is not supported. They suggested posting the question to this forum. Anyone have a procedure for making a server directory stick in the sidebar? Thanks for any help.

  • Directory doesn't really exist - linked to another

    I have discovered a weird issue with my Lightroom catalog that, unfortunately, may have resulted in me inadvertently deleting some images. Some folders in the Folders pane are somehow "linked" for the lack of a better term. For example, I have the following two folders:
    2006_04_29
    2006-04-29
    I'm trying to clean up my catalog so I've been moving/renaming (through Lightroom) to fix the issue. The weird thing is if I open an image in 2006_04_29 and look at the system file info, it shows it actually lives in 2006-04-29. Unfortunately, this is after I deleted a dozen or so folders.
    I'm not sure if this may have happened back in the Lightroom 2/3 days before I knew not to move things outside of Lightroom, but I'm surprised the catalog optimization or synchronization both didn't fix it.
    Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Kevin

  • Parent directory paths missing after PDFMaker conversion

    I have hyperlinks in a Word document. Relative path links to documents in subfolders (e.g. "subfolder/subdoc.pdf") work fine after conversion to PDF using PDFMaker However, links to a parent directory (e.g. "../parent.pdf") are incorrect after conversion to PDF: the PDF file link is just "parent.pdf".
    This is in Acrobat 8 -- has this been fixed in a later version of Acrobat?
    Or, am I missing something? Wiring in absolute paths isn't acceptable.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply! You're correct; this should be under 10.5 mail services. I'm not sure how the post ended up here, though I'm sure it's my fault.
    Thanks for the information on what this file does. Permissions are a possibility, but the underlying problem is that the system is looking for the file in the wrong location. The mail isn't at /var/imap/ anymore, and I've renamed /var/imap/ to /var/old_imap/ to spot just this sort of thing. What I'm trying to find is what in the system is still pointing to /var/imap/ and trying to find a file there. If I could find that, then I could repoint it to the correct path and resolve the issue. It looks like the call is coming from postfix (with the master process), but I see nothing in the postfix config files that would make it still look at /var/imap/. That's what puzzles/concerns me.
    Did I explain that well? Thanks again.

  • Parent directory on JFileChooser main panel

    Yes I did a search on the forum before posting.
    How could I display the parent directory '..' of the current directory on the file list panel of a JFileChooser? It should be selectable/clickable/openable, of course.

    Thanks camickr.
    It does barely works but problems are:
    1) A mouse selection on the parent directory [icon + text] item behaves weird at the initial launch time of the program and when we have returned back from a subsub-directory.
    2)The parent directory [icon + text] item doesn't come at the top of the file list. How to achieve this requirement?

  • LVOOP "call parent method" doesn't work when used in sibling VI

    It seems to me that the "call parent method" doesn't work properly according to the description given in the LabVIEW help.
    I have two basic OOP functions I am doing examples for. I can get one to work easily and the other one is impossible.
    Background
    There are 3 basic situations in which you could use the "call parent method"
    You are calling the parent VI (or method) of a child VI from within the child VI
    You are calling the parent VI (or method) of a child VI from within a sibling VI
    You are calling the parent VI (or method) of a child VI from a different class/object.
    From the LabVIEW help system for "call parent method":
    Calls the nearest ancestor implementation of a class method. You can use the Call Parent Method node only on the block diagram of a member VI that belongs to a class that inherits member VIs from an ancestor class. The child member VI must be a dynamic dispatching member VI and have the same name as the ancestor member VI
    From my reading of that it means situation 3 is not supported but 1 & 2 should be.
    Unfortunately only Situation 1 works in LabVIEW 2012.
    Here is what I want
    And this is what I actually get
    What this means is that I can perform a classic "Extend Method" where a child VI will use the parent's implementation to augment it's functions BUT I cannot perform a "Revert Method" where I call the parent method's implementation rather than the one that belongs to the object.
    If you want a picture
    Any time I try and make operation2 the VI with the "call parent method" it shows up for about 1/2 sec and then turns into operation.
    So there are only 3 possibilities I can see
    Bug
    Neither situation 2 or 3 are intended to work (see above) and the help is misleading
    I just don't know what I am doing (and I am willing to accept this if someone can explain it to me)
    The downside is that if situation 2 above doesn't work it does make the "call parent node" much less usefull AND it's usage/application just doesn't make sense. You cannot just drop the "call parent node" on a diagram, it only works if you have an existing VI and you perform a replace. If you can only perform situation 1 (see above) then you should just drop the "call parent node" and it picks up the correct VI as there is only 1 option. Basically if situation 2 is not intended to work then the way you apply "call parent method" doesn't make sense.
    Attachements:
    For the really keen I have included 2 zip files
    One is the "Revert Method labVIEW project" which is of course not working properly because it wants to "call parent method" on operation not operation2
    The other zip file is all pictures with a PIN for both "Revert Method" and "Extend Method" so you can see the subtle but important differences and pictrures of the relavant block diagrams including what NI suggested to me as the original fix for this problem but wasn't (they were suggesting I implement Extend Method).
     If you are wondering where I got the names, concepts and PIN diagrams from see:

    Hi tst,
    Thankyou for your reply. Can you have a look at my comments below on the points you make.
    1) Have to disagree on that one. The help is unfortunately not clear. The part you quote in your reply only indicates that the VI you are applying "Call Parent Node" to must be dynamic dispatch. There is nowhere in the help it actually states that the call parent node applies to the VI of the block diagram it is placed into. Basically case 2 in my example fulfills all that the help file requires of it. The dynamic dispatch VI's operation are part of a class that inherits from a given ancestor. Operation 2 for Reverted behaviour is a child VI that is dynamic dispatch and has the same name as the ancestor VI (operation2). The help is missing one important piece of information and should be corrected.
    2) True it does work this way. I was trying to build case 2 and had not yet built my ancestor DD for operation so the function dropped but wasn't associated with any VI. I was able to do this via a replace (obviously once the ancestor Vi was built) so this one is just bad operator
    3) Keep in mind this is an example not my end goal. I have a child implementation because this is a case where I am trying to do a "reverse override" if you like.
    3a) The point of the example is to override an objects method (operation2) with it's parent's method NOT it's own. The reason there is a child implementation with specific code is to prove that the parent method is called not the one that relates to the object (child's VI). If I start having to put case structures into the child VI I make the child VI have to determine which code to execute. The point of Revert method is to take this function out of the method that is doing the work. (Single Use Principal and encapsulation)
    3b) The VI I am calling is a Dynamic Dispatch VI. That means if I drop the superclass's VI onto the child's block diagram it will become the child's implementation. Basically I can't use Dynamic Dispatch in this case at all. It would have to be static. That then means I have to put in additional logic unless there is some way to force a VI to use a particular version of a DD VI (which I can't seem to find).
    Additional Background
    One of the uses for "Revert Method" is in versioning.
    I have a parent Version1 implementation of something and a child Version2. The child uses Version2 BUT if it fails the error trapping performs a call to Version1.
    LabVIEW has the possibility of handling the scenario but only if both Case 1 and Case 2 work. It would actually be more useful if all 3 cases worked.
    The advantage of the call parent method moving one up the tree means I don't have the track what my current object is and choose from a possible list, if, for example the hierarchy is maybe 5 levels deep. (so V4 calls V3 with a simple application of "call parent method" rather than doing additional plumbing with case structures that require care and feeding). Basically the sort of thing OOP is meant to help reduce. Anything that doesn't allow case 2 or 3 means you have to work around the limitation from a software design perspective.
    If at the end of the day Case 2 and case 3 don't and won't ever work then the help file entry needs to be fixed.
    All the best

  • How to get immediate parent directory name of a file

    Hi,
    I have file Object that points to a file. I want to know how I can get just the name of the parent immediate to the file For example, if the path of this file is, c:\\ProgramFiles\first\second\third\myFile.txt
    In the above, how can I obtain the last directory in which myFile.txt resides ?
    Thanks
    Sangeetha

    File myFile = new File("c:\\ProgramFiles\\first\\second\\third\\myFile.txt");
    File parentFile = myFile.getParentFile();
    String parentDirectory = parentFile.getName();
    System.out.println("Parent directory is "+parentDirectory);Here's the explanation...
    1) New File is created
    2) File.getParentFile returns the immediate parent of the current File, which happens to be a directory.
    3) File.getName() returns the name of the File, without the entire directory structure.
    Hope this helps :)

  • 'Source Directory doesn't exist' error in sender file adapter

    Hi All,
    I m getting the error 'Source Directory doesn't exist' in sender file adapter.
    The source file directory doesn't exist in XI Server. Its in a different system.
    gone through other sdn t hreads.
    the options seems to be
    1. either to mount the Source Directory on the XI Server.
    2. Install a FTP server and use FTP protocol.
    My doubt is that, could nt we give necessary access rights to the XIAFUSER whihc will access the Source Directory?
    Wont it be sufficient?

    Hi Aarthi,
    If you are using system other than XI, then you have to use FTP server
    else check you have proper authorization of read/write to the source directory...
    and check the name of it as well, as it is case sensetive and you have provided the proper details of server.
    check these blog as well...

  • Reading files from the parent directory

    Hi all, I'm just wondering if files can be read from the parent directory.
    I've created a package and realise that for one function it needs to read from a file which was created in the parent directory. I've tried:
    BufferedReader inPut =
    new BufferedReader(new FileReader("../file.txt"))
    but it's still saying that it can't find the file.
    Any ideas if I can read that file?
    Thanks

    How about using the getParent() or getParentFile from the File class?

  • Save As in Parent Directory

    I am trying to create an process and action that does the following:
    Process outside of PS that stages files for edit
    PS Action to set selection(s) (each selection is on its own channel) on the original tif
    PS Action to open Background template file (.bmp file)
    PS Action to paste selection(s) in place (from channels) into .bmp file
    PS Action to flatten document
    PS Action to Save As a .bmp using the current file name one directory up
    Process outside of PS that cleans up and moves files
    I am good on steps 1 through 5 and 7, but cannot figure out step 6 in a Win7 environment.  Basically, I edit images in a staging folder before moving them to the parent.  Then the parent folder is cleaned up and pulled into a permanent storage location.  So the workspace looks like this:
    Starting file structure (three .bmp files and two subfolders in ...\parent)
    ...\parent\File1.bmp  {old}
    ...\parent\File2.bmp
    ...\parent\File3.bmp
    ...\parent\Delete\
    ...\parent\Working\
    Next step:  New File1.tif is sourced and placed in Working Folder, Current File1 is moved to Delete Folder
    ...\parent\File2.bmp
    ...\parent\File3.bmp
    ...\parent\Delete\File1.bmp  {old}
    ...\parent\Working\File1.tif
    Next step:  Edit File1.tif in Working Folder and run final action - Save As .bmp in one folder up (...\parent\)
    ...\parent\File1.bmp  {new}
    ...\parent\File2.bmp
    ...\parent\File3.bmp
    ...\parent\Delete\File1.bmp  {old}
    ...\parent\Working\File1.tif
    Last step, Cleanup:  Remove the Delete/Working subfolders, move files to new location
    ...\parent\File1.bmp  {new}
    ...\parent\File2.bmp
    ...\parent\File3.bmp
    How can I do the Save As step??

    I am just using parent to illustrate.  It actually looks like this, where parent and file names are variable and each edit work driver may require editing a different {old} bmp:
    ...\04969\1234_1.bmp  {old}
    ...\04969\1234_2.bmp
    ...\04969\1234_3.bmp
    ...\04969\Delete\
    ...\04969\Working\
    How would the coding change for the following:
    1) Working multiple edits and editing different files each time
    2) Working multiple edits and and the names of the parent directory changed for each edit?
    3) Working multiple edits and and the names of the files changed for each edit?
    So Edit 1:
    ...\04969\1234_1.bmp
    ...\04969\1234_2.bmp  {old}
    ...\04969\1234_3.bmp
    ...\04969\Delete\
    ...\04969\Working\

  • CD drive problems "Directory doesn't exist"

    Seems like everybody has some variant of this problem.  I'm having difficulty getting the CD drive to read the disks I put in.  I'm using PCman as my file manager and when I try to access the CD drive I get a pair of error messages that simply say "..."  This is followed by a third error saying "Directory doesn't exist."  My HAL is configured for hotplugging if that matters.
    I've been wrestling with this for a couple days and tried several solutions from both the wiki and the forum.  Any help with fixing, or just suggestions on how to better diagnose the problem would be much appreciated.

    I had this problem using hal, Slim, openbox and pcmanfm. Solved it using this post
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=65070
    which I found in the Wiki/Table of Contents/Hardware Detection & Troubleshooting/Hal/Permission Denied page.
    I only had to follow the two steps in the PS, after which I could access cd's as normal user.
    Hope this helps.

  • Build error 'CFURLGetFSRef failed - maybe the output directory doesn't exist?' Eclipse

    I downloaded and installed the Adobe InDesign Plug-in Editor as an Eclipse distribution, the InDesign SDK and XCode on my iBook G4 with Mac OS X 10.4.10. Creating an InDesign project works fine. I only have to drag-and-drop elements on a form and add some actions.
    Unfortunately, I can't get the Ant Build working. I followed the video-tutorials on the Adobe labs site, but I'm still getting this error:
    CFURLGetFSRef failed - maybe the output directory doesn't exist?
    The error seems to be in the "/Adobe InDesign CS3 Products SDK/devtools/bin/odfrc-cmd" file. I guess it's a SDK problem.
    Does anyone know what the reason is for this error? And maybe how I can fix it?

    This is the full output.

  • Installing oracle 11.1.0.6.0 in the same parent directory on Linux server(OEL 5),

    Hi All, This was regarding installing Oracle 11gR1 on the same linux server machine, where oracle 10.2.0.1.0 resides, i tried to install 11g on the same parent directory /u01 where 10g directory present, i.e,
    for 10g - /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/
    and
    for 11g - /u01/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/db_1/
    my doubt is whether /u01/app/oracle/oraInventory/  will be disturbed ? at the stage of executing configuration scripts, oracle prompted only for root.sh script and didn't ask for oraInstroot.sh?
    will the 10g features gets affected ?,
    I found 10g database opening successfully after running it's bash_profile, and also when 11g database needed, it also opened successfully (in another session) after its  seperate bash_profile being executed in another session,

    You may be confused between ORACLE_BASE, actually the common directory of both ORACLE_HOMEs (one for 10g, one for 11g).
    /u01/app/oracle is your ORACLE_BASE where sit the oraInventory and some other common folders.
    /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1 and /u01/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/db_1 are your two ORACLE_HOME to hosts dedicated binaries for each version.
    Set the ORACLE_HOME/PATH env. variables in the OS session level according to the version you want to work on in that said session.
    Nicolas.

  • After uploading, template is gone and only parent directory shows

    I'm using Dreamweaver CS4 and uploading to Yahoo for my website. When I try to use the preview in browser, the page shows as blank, and when I upload, only the parent directory shows. How can I fix this?
    The website is: http://www.optimumtx.com/
    Thank you for your time

    Uhmmm... It looks like you haven't named your default starting page correctly - Yahoo hosting is looking for "home.html" to start from and you currently don't have any document titled that. And seeing your list of files (based on your link you supplied) you also have index.dwt up on the server. The .dwt file extension means it's a template! That's only useful in Dreamweaver to create new pages from and has no business being up on your server. Fix that start page issue and you'll most likely resolve the majority of your issues.
