Renaming javaw.exe in task bar

We're working on a nice big desktop application. All in Java. Working great.
When we get lots of frames going, everything in the task bar gets condensed into "javaw.exe". Which WE understand... and we understand where & how that's chosen: it's the javaw.exe process running everything.
But regular people will wonder where their windows went. Is there any way to adjust this property in Java (without JNI or native code)?
If not, does anyone know of any pointers to JNI or native code that can do this simple thing?
As a tidbit: ALL our frames are part of the same javaw.exe process. We're not spanning mulitple JVM's here.

I'm not sure if I understand your problem, but if you want to change the javaw to something else, make a copy of the javaw.exe file and rename it to whatever you want and use that instead of javaw to start your app

  • I still see javaw.exe in Task Manager after I close app !

javaw.exe seems to like to hang around (45 mb in memory) after I close the app.
    I'm running JWS 1.4.2.
I thought maybe it was because I wasn't doing the System.exit(0) on WindowClosed, but that doesn't seem to kill javaw.exe.
    Unsolved mystery.

I am having the same problem.
When invoked from JWS, the javaw task does not exit when the app does.
I suspect this may be something related to a still running thread (the app does make use of threads).
If I exit the app prior to the "threading-heavy" logic, all behaves as desired/expected.
However, when the app is invoked from the command line via java or javaw, the app exits as expected, in all cases.
    This confounds me.
Looking at the still active threads at the point at which the last window has been closed, it appears the only difference is that when running under JWS is that there is one additional thread ("traceMsgQueueThread", a daemon thread). Otherwise, the number and daemon state of these threads is the same.
Is there something other than a still running thread which could cause a JWS initiated process to remain running after the app has completed?

  • Running EXE Duplicate task in Window Task Bar

When I am running a particular exe, I am always getting two items in my window taskbar.  One time would says "programX.vi", and the other one would says just "programX".   I don't need two.  I just want one on the window task bar.  How do I get rid of one?  They are both referring to the same exe running.

Alright, well let's try this then.
Restart your computer. After you restart your PC, let's try starting Firefox up in Safe Mode. Read [[Safe Mode|this article]] to see how to start in Safe Mode. If Firefox starts up normally, then this is likely a problem with your extensions, so we will need to disable them one by one (or disable them all and re-enable them one by one) to figure out the offender.
Another thing is please update to Firefox 11 (go to [[www.getfirefox.com|www.getfirefox.com]] to download it since you can't get Firefox open to update). It does have some bug fixes that might help your problem.

  • Minimize LabVIEW Application (EXE) to Icon on Task Bar?

    Hey,
I want to run a LabVIEW Application (EXE File, LabVIEW 8.2) everytimes in backgrund. Frontpanel should visible only on activation. After minimize application only a small icon (not the large Task Button!) should visible on right corner of Task Bar. Is that possible by a LabVIEW Application?
    Thank's in advance.

The right corner of the Task Bar is called System Tray.
This can be done with G Toolbox -> Systray Icon VIs:

  • EXE stays visible in task bar after closing

I created an EXE of my VI. First time I have done this with 8.20. When I run the EXE it runs fine but when I close it the windows task bar shows the EXE but when you click on it, it does nothing and takes quit a while to go away. This happens on the DEV machine and on two other machines both are running XP. I thought it may be because of VI being rather large so I created a simple VI with just a while loop an event structure and a stop button. I still have the same results. I do not remember this happening in other versions. Do i have to make sure to uncheck or check some settings for this to go away.
Any help or Ideas are welcomed.
    Thanks,
    Joe.

Here is the actual VI. Have a look. It is not just this VI it is all of them that I build.

  • Magically Changing Icons - M$ Task Bar

    Hi,
In Windows XP (Windows NT), when you open multiple windows of a program, the programs become inconisized and grouped together under one menu icon with a name. For instance, opening Windows Explorer multiple times creates a menu on the task bar that displays the Windows Explorer Icon, the number of windows open, and the title of the program--Windows Explorer.
However, when I run my Java programs multiple times (or make many frames within a program) and iconisized them, they appear on the task bar as a menu with a little white window icon with a blue title, the number of windows (frames) open, and "java" or "javaw" beside it.
I know how to add icons to frames. What I don't know is how to keep my icon and application name on the task bar when windows (frames) or applications become grouped. Any helpful information would be greatly appreciated. Spent 4 hours looking all over Sun's site, trying to find an answer. I've even tried to download some open source programs and tried to disect them to find the code. Sample code would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    J Apprentice

    J Apprentice,
XP groups these together because they are using the same executable (java.exe). The name which appears in the taskbar group is gained for the exe's description attribute (take a look at the exe's properties from explorer) or , failing that, the name of the executable. The only way around this is to create a JNI wrapper executable which links to the JVM and calls your main method instead of executing java.exe. (BTW this is how java.exe works anyway). Some java installers create these wrappers for you.

  • How do I stop firefox from sending a message or note that " do I want this program to change my computer?" It changes some of the settings in my computer; like the color of my task bar changed and other settings too.

Before nothing happened until just recently when box messages would appear and tell me to click "yes or no" if I want the program to change my laptop. I clicked "No", but sometimes it didn't work, and when it didn't work. When it failed, fire fox changed some of the settings in my laptop. For example, the task bar's color would be changed. Also, it seemed as if fire fox had changed some of the settings into an old version. Yesterday I restarted my laptop, and it just went back to normal like nothing happened. But, for a few minutes later, the box will appear and you have to click yes or no. I clicked the "x" button, and it just changed automatically.

Check that you do not run Firefox as Administrator.<br />
Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".<br />
In the Compatibility tab, make sure that Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" is not selected.<br />
You also need to check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program directory.<br />

  • Windows task bar no longer auto hides when I fullscreen a flash video.

Like the question reads, my task bar is no longer auto hiding when I full screen flash videos in firefox. Other than the obvious issue of it just being unsightly and annoying, It also causes a few other problems. One being that the computer no longer recognizes that a fullscreen video is playing so it goes to screen saver, and goes to sleep at its normally timed intervals.

If you're using higher DPI settings, please check "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" on 'firefox.exe' (=> right-click - Properties - Compatibility tab).

  • Firefox is running in lower task bar but will not open on desk top.

I click on the desk top short cut and the fire fox symbol shows up in the lower task bar and task manager shows firefox running but it isn't running on the desk top.

In the Task Manager, make sure to check both the Applications tab and the Processes tab. On the Processes tab, Firefox may have two different components running: firefox.exe and plugin-container.exe. Well, in 3.5.11, it would be only the first one.

  • Firefox window is not shown and not even in the tasks bar, but there is a process running in the task manager

Clicked on the Firefox icon , but window did not appeared, checked in the Task manager, there is a process running with firefox.exe, and could not see any icon in the task bar adjacent to start button

I discovered that when the "Firefox is already running . . . ." message pops up I can fix it by doing the following [note: I get the same message for the Thunderbird e-mail program too] : 1. I open 'TASK MANAGER" and click on the "Processes" tab. 2. Next I scroll down until I see Firefox.exe *32 in the leftmost column (or Thunderbird. exe *32 if the message came up there), highlight that line by clicking on it and then click on the "end process" button on the right side on the bottom. 4. A pop-up window will come up but ignore its message and click on the "end process" button in the pop-up window. The program should then start the next time you click on the icon..
While that saves the need to restart your PC to fix the problem, I have yet to find any information as to the reasons for those two processes to show up in the first place. I'm running the 64 bit Win 7 Professional and do not know if that has something to do with those two processes running from time to time or not. The message comes up often but not all the time and I haven't been able to pinpoint any action on my part where the message comes up if I do '''X '''or the message never comes up when I do '''Y''' before closing Firefox or Thunderbird.

    Dear all,
I had ASDM 6.2 with ASA 8.2 installed on my pc (windows 7 32 bit). When I launch ASDM process go to 80-90% and my RAM go to 2.5G. when I am looking on the process on the task manager there is a process “javaw.exe” linked with ASDM.
I have done a lot of search on the google/SUN site and forums but I didn’t found anything to resolve this issue.
Have someone had or have some issue with ASDM? Or have you the solution for this issue?
    Thanks a lot
Note: I upgraded my ASDM to the latest version 6.4 but still have same issue.

    Hi Jazaib,
As other said, you need to find out what was changed. In additional to environment/load changes, extra load could be triggered by suboptimal execution plans due to parameter sniffing and/or stale statistics. For example, you can have the situation when frequently
executed query was recompiled using atypical parameter set and cached plan leads to much heavier I/O CPU activity.
Other factor that often lead to CPU load is bad T-SQL code (multistatement UDF, imperative code, cursors) so check your application.
You can also run the script below, which returns you the information on most CPU intensive queries in scope of the cached plans. Alternatively, you can setup XEvent/SQL Trace sessions capturing statements with cpu_time exceeding some duration.
    SELECT TOP 50
    SUBSTRING(qt.TEXT, (qs.statement_start_offset/2)+1,
    CASE qs.statement_end_offset
    WHEN -1 THEN DATALENGTH(qt.TEXT)
    ELSE qs.statement_end_offset
    END - qs.statement_start_offset)/2)+1) as SQL,
    qs.execution_count,
    (qs.total_logical_reads + qs.total_logical_writes) / qs.execution_count as [Avg IO],
    qp.query_plan,
    qs.total_logical_reads, qs.last_logical_reads,
    qs.total_logical_writes, qs.last_logical_writes,
    qs.total_worker_time / qs.execution_count as [Avg CPU],
    qs.total_worker_time,
    qs.last_worker_time,
    qs.total_elapsed_time/1000 total_elapsed_time_in_ms,
    qs.last_elapsed_time/1000 last_elapsed_time_in_ms,
    qs.last_execution_time
    from
    sys.dm_exec_query_stats qs with (nolock)
    cross apply sys.dm_exec_sql_text(qs.sql_handle) qt
    outer apply sys.dm_exec_query_plan(qs.plan_handle) qp
order by -- or vy qs.total_worker_time desc

  • Thinkvantage Toolbox icon on the Windows Task Bar

I have tried removing the Thinkvantage icon from the task bar; but it returns when I reboot.  Am I missing something?

ok, you guys are going to love me, or everyone else having this issue at least.   Its not a total fix, but asthesically it works.
Issue: Thinkvantage Toolbox icon hijacks the "explorer" icon.
    to get it back
first if you have modified the properties of Thinkvantage Toolbox - then change it back.
Start > all programs > Thinkvantage Toolbox > right click > properties > target = (paste this in there)
    C:\Windows\explorer.exe ::{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683}\2\::{A8A91A66-3A7D-4424-8D24-04E180695C7A}\Provider%5CMicrosoft.Base.DeviceDisplayObjects//DDO:%7B00000000-0000-0000-FFFF-FFFFFFFFFFFF%7D\cat{8AA6B0C2-14A6-4da8-BF36-F7D93ACE9ACE}
Next - right click on the pinned Thinkvantage Toolbox icon > right click where it says Thinkvantage Toolbox > target = %windir%\explorer.exe > in the same window > Change icon > the look for icons path is corrupt > paste %windir%\explorer.exe in the bar, then choose the "folder" icon. > OK > OK > DONEEE!!!!!
Thinkvantage Toolbox = opens Thinkvantage Toolbox
windows explorer icon = opens libraries directory.
    You're welcome.
