Rental MacBooks - Best way to restore to the same point every time?

We are an Audio Visual rental hosue and part of our hire stock features Macbook Pro 15inch 2013 models.
We need to keep a certain degree of software on them that is not in the standard stock of apps (Playback Pro, QLab to name a couple)
We tried to create a time capsule backup for the Macbooks in their current state, but when we sent them out on hire to a client then attempted to restore them, the restore was not quite what we expected. - Not sure if this was an error in the way we backed up to time capsule or weather this just wont work the way we want it to - (time capsule wouldnt let us restore from the backup we originally created 2 weeks prior)
Does anyone have any suggestions as a good way to achieve what we want to achieve?
Further info - We stock a large number of PCs and the way we do this is to create a mirror of the primary hard drive which on insertion of a restore DVD copies this mirror back onto the PC over the top.

Hi,
First at all,
we don’t recommend to
install CA on a DC. This is because if the DC corrupt and need to demote, we need
to uninstall the CA role first. If you want to install the CA on a DC, please follow below steps:
Clean install a new windows 2012 server and add it to domain as domain member.
Promote this new windows 2012 R2 server to DC.

Using Ntdsutil.exe to transfer or seize FSMO roles to a domain controllerhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/255504/en-au
Back up CA from 2008 R2 server with steps below:
Backing up a CA database and private key.
Backing up CA registry settings.
Backing up CAPolicy.inf only if we install our CA by using it.
Removing the CA role service from this server.
Restoring the CA database and configuration on new server.

Verifying certificate enrollment
Verifying CRL publishing

5. After that,  make the old 2008 DC offline for a while. If everything things are working fine, you can then demote the windows 2008 DC.
Thanks.

How can I save to the same map every time when printing pdfs?
Finder points to the document map even when I chose a different map recently.
I often print series of pdfs from the print dialog box, I'd like to choose the map to save to and then have all subsequent pdf prints automatically directed to the same map until I decide otherwise.

  • Adobe Media Encoder for Premiere Pro CS4 stops working on the same frame every time...

I currently have Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and have never had these issues exporting before. My timeline is less than 3 minutes long, but it does deal with multiple big files. It rendered perfectly and it plays perfectly in the timeline. When I try to export it using Media Encoder, however, it freezes at the same frame every time (which is actually only a few seconds in!) and then crashes, so that I have to force quit. I have tried exporting it as many different codecs and the problem persists... same frame. I tried creating a new project entirely and whipping together a few titles and exporting that to see if it just won't export anything at all. The new project exported just fine, however, which I suppose is good news. But yeah, my work on that other project is very important to me and I reallllly want to export it. Please help!

Hi Jim! Thank you for your reply. I think you are right -- and that it lies in the audio somehow!
It turns out that if I choose to only export the video, and uncheck audio, it will export very well and smoothly. That's great news for me!
However, now I am trying to work out how to get the audio exported without issues. I actually had the idea of just playing the audio in the timeline and recording it via Stereo Mix, but my Windows 7 driver has Stereo Mix disabled, so it's back to square one. Any ideas of what I can do about the corrupted audio not exporting, which works fine when played in the timeline?

I'm trying to update my Photoshop CS5, but continue to receive the same problem every time. The application manager update dialogue box simply states "some updates failed to install." There's no specific error code, but a link to contact support for further assistance. It doesn't take me to customer support, but does take me to a screen which states. "Error "This serial number is not for a qualifying product." I've checked my account and the product serial number is associated with my account., so I don't see any problem.  I have not been able to find a resolution to this problem, so I hope that someone can point me in the right direction.  Thank you!

  • Web sudoku app prints the same puzzle every time?

We got an 8500A plus from Costco recently. My mom was able to print her favoriate game for the first time, thanks to the web sudoku app and the touch interface. Unfortunately, it seems to print the same puzzle every time for the same category (easy, medium, hard, evil).
Any tips to make it print something different each time? Is it only updated daily?

    Dear hpllu,
You should try unistalling and reinstalling the sudoku app from the ePrintCenter website.
If I have solved your issue, please feel free to provide kudos and make sure you mark this thread as solution provided!

  • I am asked to select an app each time I attempt to open a linked file via a website. How do I tell firefox to use the same app every time?

I have a website; www.designed4submariners.com. On several pages, I have created links to images which are located in a upload file folder. Each time I click on one of those links on the active website (using Firefox as browser), a dialog box appears asking me: What should Firefox do with this file? Beneath the question is a pull down menu which has "TextEdit (defualt)" selected next to a radio button. The image file will open in a browser window when I select Firefox from that pull down menu. I can not tell Firefox to open all similar files using Firefox. How can I resolve this issue as I must go through the same process each time I attempt to open one of those links.

Your response identifies the issue exactly! My website is hosted by GoDaddy. I have forwarded your linked information to their tech department. The URL below my signature is the site having the problem I've outlined when attempting to access linked images.

  • Safari (3.0.4) on Mac OS 10.4.11 has started quitting when viewing news and weather sites - not all sites, not the same sites every time.

Safari (3.0.4) on Mac OS 10.4.11 has started quitting when viewing news and weather sites - not all sites, not the same sites every day. Help?

    Hi Gary...
I see you are running v10.4.11 and you have updated Safari but make certain all the system software is up to date by clicking your Apple menu / Software Update.
If everything is up to date, try resetting Safari from the menu bar.
Select the top 7 buttons, click Reset.
Restart your Mac. Launch Safari. Try several of the sites you mentioned.
    has started quitting
If resetting didn't help, post a crash report.
If Safari has just crashed, press the Report button on the CrashReporter dialog box to view the crash  information.
Copy/paste the entire contents of the Crash Reporter window into your reply. If the crash report dialog does not appear or the crash is hard to reproduce, crash logs can be retrieved from the ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter> folder.

  • What is the best way to work on the same InDesign file in different locations?

I'm the creative director for an in-house creative department. We produce 37 catalogs and a multitude of print and electronic advertising each year, plus a variety of other items. Our problem is that we have two locations. In the current set-up, if I want someone at one location to work on a project but the files are at the other location, I have someone at the one location package all the materials involved with that project and either upload them to DropBox or copy them to an external drive and ship it. Not very efficient.
We have servers at both locations but there are different files at each location. I'm able to remote from my computer into a computer at the other location, but if everyone were to do that we would need double the number of CC subscriptions and computers, and it would bog down the internet connection that the entire company uses. I'm also connected to the server at the other location (again, over the internet) and have opened InDesign files that reside on the server there and tried to work on them here (over the internet) but that is much slower than remoting in.
The only way I can think of to alleviate this problem is to run duplicate servers at each location, but this would be an update and back-up nightmare (unless I'm missing something). Is anyone operating this same way and, if so, how are you dealing with it?
We can't be the only company that works like this. Maybe I'm just missing something.
    Thanks,
    Lloyd

One tiny thing bothers me about your setup. And you said it above, you would need double the number of CC subscriptions and computers. Are you using two people to access under the same CC subscription. Even if they are working in two different time zones, it is technically violating the rules and spirit of the rules of being able to install on two machines at the same time.
You're allowed to install for two machines for one person working at the office and then at home. One person wouldn't be in two different locations at the same time.
Meanwhile, regards your problem, I remember reading about a system many years ago that was pretty simple. It was based on an old newspaper/magaizine system of "who has the folder." (Created before computers) In the old days, if someone was working on a file, they left a folder with their name in its place.
In the computer age, one person, working on a file, would move it to their desktop. Then, they would leave an empty folder with that document's name where it had been as well as their initials. So if I took "Shoes and Socks Fall 2015.indd" out, I would leave a folder named "Shoes and Socks Fall 2015_smsc" in its place.
And if it was necessary for me to have the images, I would make a copy of them onto my machine so I wouldn't tax the network. Then when I was finished, I would copy the file back to the server. The links should show up. If not, we could relink later.
With the empty folder on the server, anyone could tell who is working on a project. So if they were late getting it back, you could email them.
It relies on the people being disciplined enough to make the folders, move the docs, etc. But since you've ruled out all the systems for companies with dumb employees, you're going to have to make them follow the rules.

  • Is there a way to have everything the same on every machine on the network?

Is it possible to have the same icons, desktop, files, etc. appear on every machine a person logs in to on an open directory network?

Sure - it's called network home directories.
The user's home directory is stored on a central file server, typically running AFP. You change the user's Open Directory record to indicate their home directory is on this server, rather than the local /Users/<username> directory and you're set (other than synchronizing all the user's data from multiple machines, if you need to).
This is part of the standard user administration setup.

  • Open a window in the same place EVERY time

I have a TextEdit document in a password protected .dmg.  When I open the document, it opens in the middle of my screen, then I drag it out of the way to the far right side of the screen.  I'd like to be able to open it on the right side of my screen from the get-go each time I open it.  Can this be done?

Anybody care to chime in here?

  • Why do i get 2 of the same email every time on all my devices

I just loaded Icloud 3.1 to a Win 7 PC w Outlook 2013 and now all my emails on my IPhone 5 and IPad Air arrive twice to both Devices ( every email comes twice on both )   in Outlook its just once and now if I delete an email on my IPad it does Not delete from Outlook Why ??   Help Pls   Thanks

1 - that is how iPhoto works and no you can not change it
2 - you can not ever delete anuything from the iPhoto library unless you do it using iPhoto - in fact you should not be going into the iPhoto library at all - there is no reason to be there
3 - it is not taking double the space - thumbnails are very small
4 - and when you make any modifications to any photo a third version is created - the modified version - and again that is the way iPhoto works
5 - the only way to prevent this is to use a different probram that does no work this way (there are a number of very good reasons why iPhoto and other DAMs - Digital Assett Managers - work this way including keeping the digital negative, non-destructive editins, etc

  • I keep getting a message to up-date my FireFox software; but when I follow the prompts it doesn't work, and I continue to get the same message EVERY time I sign in. What's up with that?

When I start my computer (Windows) I find a message window on my Home Page (AOL) that tells me somethinglike "It is recommended that you up-date your software to Firefox 4.0 (?)". When I click on the button to up-date, it tells me that it is "connecting to server". Then I watch as the green "up-dating" bars flit across the screen...and flit across the screen...and flit across the screen...and it just keeps going.
Then I click on a button that says "Hide", assuming that the up-date is continuing to do its magic while I am busy elsewhere. This gives me a minimized button that is labelled "Software Update". When I click on that to maximize it again, I find that the "connecting to update server" just keeps going...and going...and going............. Finally I just cancel the whole process.......until next time I go online and the same window tells me to update my software.

    * Download a new copy of the Firefox program: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html

  • How do I tell photoshop to stop opening the same document every time I start Photoshop CS6?

    Hi all,
Each and every time I start up Photoshop CS6 (running the latest version I think....13.0.1 x64) on my Mac Running 10.7.5
the same document opens up. As if it thinks it crashed and needs to recover it. Im a member of Creative Cloud in case that matters.
I have saved the document and closed it properly and yet - it returns every time I start up the program. Can anyone help?
Its not a killer issue but extremely annoying.
    thank you.
    -wendy-

Yeah - literally can't find anything remotely similar. If anyone knows where I might find the thread to a fix I'd be mightly helpful.
Haven't a clue how to word to it any differently to try to find the answer.
