Rented movie on iMac, but need to xfer to macbook to hook up to TV

Hi,
I just rented two itunes movies on my iMac. I thought I could later share or move them to my wifes macbook which is what we use to hook up to the TV. However, it appears I can't move movie rentals between computers. What gives?
Can I get apple to reimburse me so I can rent them again on the other machine if thats what I need to do?

I have played around with this for a while and am pretty sure you can't stream movies rented on an Imac via itunes to your apple TV (2nd generation). This is really annoying as I have a slow internet connection and being able to store rented movies on my imac would be really good. Why doesn't apple allow this I wonder?

Sounded like a good question to me but nobody seemed willing to respond. So... as I had never rented a movie, I decided to test the work flow on one of the $0.99 "specials" found on iTunes. For my test, I selected "Dark House." The 943.5 MB SD movie downloaded in about 8 minutes to the "Store/Downloads" area in the iTunes app on my older PPC computer—most likely a volatile cache area as I could not locate a physical file at the Finder level. In any case, it seems that if you select the file in the "iTunes/Downloads" tab, it appears you can play the file locally on the computer (later confirmed this). However, as I wanted to take advantage of the my ethernet connection to my main HDTV, I went to that TV2 device connected to it and checked it's local menu. Sure enough, I found the movie available in a newly added "Rentals" menu that now displayed between the "Music" and "Movies" sub-menus within my own iTunes Library menu.
Be advised that starting file takes a second or two of extra time each time the you quit/restart playback as it seems the movie must be "re-authorized" for the device each time. Further, the rental can only be played on one device at a time. That is, if you want to switch from the device to another, you must close the playback sub-menu for the current device before opening the file on an alternative device. In my case, I tested switching the movie back and forth between an TV2 device and the iTunes player.
Hope that answers your question as I plan to go and watch the move now. If nothing else, this was a learning experience for me. Quality was typical for the data rate and I had no problems viewing the content on my system. I also like the fact that chapter "descriptors" were used for this content rather than the default chapter numbers I normally use.

No, you should be able to use/install LR5. Make sure you are using the correct number. If the problem continues explain the details of what you do and what happens.

When you sell your iMac, please remember that if you bought Mountain Lion upgrade at the app store, the license is not transferable and you need to erase the drive and reinstall the original system (which was most likely Snow Leopard?). If you don't do that, the buyer can never reinstall Mountain Lion because the license is tied to your Apple ID forever.

You need to have quicktime or VLC player and then open a movie using one of those apps and move the window to the TV monitor if your in extended display mode... if your in mirror display then it should just show up on your TV because your mac's screen is mirrored on the TV....
It sounds like your in "extended display mode" so just move the movie window to the TV. Open system preferences click on DISPLAYS and click the arrangement tab when the TV is connected and that will show you the direction to move the mouse to find the edge of the TV. Move your window to the right of your mac screen and it should appear on your TV.

iMac need to be on with iTunes running and Home Sharing enabled on the imac and AppleTV.
Provided the movie has FULLY downloaded to the imac you should be able to play it on AppleTV using the Computers icon. The iMac may say it's ready to watch but it won't show on AppleTV until fully downloaded.
Under Computers you will have options for Movies, TV Shows etc.
Select Movies and any available rentals will be seen in a Rentals row that appears only when a valid rental is available to play.
Do not try to play from the main menu movies icon (logical if it allowed you to but it won't!).

Rented movie via iMac, moved to Apple TV, won't play, just says Authorizing

I tried to rent a movie from iTunes Store via my Apple TV earlier this evening, as I've done several times previously. But the screen just said Authorizing with the spinning gear. The movie never downloaded.
Instead I downloaded it to my iMac and moved it to my Apple TV--the first time I've tried to rent a movie via my computer. I selected the movie on Apple TV, however, but it won't play. Again, it says Authorizing with the spinning gear.
I verified that the AppleTV is connected to my network and the Internet and I re-entered my iTunes Store information. But it still doesn't work.
Any suggestions?

On going problems with apple's server all of today. All I recommend is you just try again tomorrow and it should work. I know i''d frustrating with it being a movie and evrything but I don't think there is much else you can do.

The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this at www.speedtest.net.
HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.

Rented movie on imac unable to watch on 2nd gen apple tv

I rented a movie on my imac through itunes. I would now like to watch that movie through apple tv (2nd generation), however the rented movie does not appear on apple TV. I only seem to be able to stream movies from my imac to apple tv that I have purchased. Is this correct, you can only stream purchased movies from imac to apple tv (2nd generation) not rented ones. thanks

Rented movies not downloading, but i'm getting charged!

I rented a movie last evening (appleTV 2 with all software updated), this morning it's still saying "ready in 32 minutes" (and has been for the last two hours). I could drive to the store, rent the movie, cook dinner on the grill, clean the grill, then return the movie to the store and still get back before it downloads. This is the second time this has happened. There's no way to cancel the rental once it's started, and since Apple didn't reimburse me for the first bad download, I'm not expecting them to on this one either. Renter beware!
My broadband is flowing at 3mbs, but even dial-up should have downloaded the HD version overnight. BTW I've seen similar threads like this, but never an answer, so I just needed to vent.

Just rented two movies through iTunes. Connected my iPad to my computer and went to move them to the iPad but get this error message when I hit "apply"
"movie name" was not copied to the iPad because it cannit be played on this iPad

The HD movie won't work, then. But assuming you're trying to move the SD movie separately, this is a long shot, but try restarting/resetting your iPad:
