  • Can anyone explain the split and overlapping date ranges in PHOTO moments.  I would have expected each date to have its own slot.  What logic is used for deciding which photos to include and where to split them?

iPad Air iOS 8.1 Stock Photo App.  14000 Photos. Overlapping date ranges in Moments.  What is the criteria used for deciding after import where photos are included in Moments.  I was expecting each day to have its own exclusive slot for example, not 26 - 27 January 2007 with 8 photos then 27 January 2007 1 photo.  Why is there not two seperate slots, one for the 26th and one for 27th??   This makes locating photos by day more arkward than it need be and seems to follow no logic.  This occurs over 150 times and is very confusing.  Is this an issue or expected behaviour?

  • So i am new to the Mac world, and just purchase a Macbook pro. I have a new Sony camera that i wanted to upload the software onto my Mac. Its a CD of the Sony editing picture program. I put the cd in the side slot, but how do i download and use it?

I need to figure out how to put this Sony cd picture program onto my Mac for my new camera. Im used to a PC, where it pops up and you download and can just click the icon and open the program. I have no idea where to find it or how to download it to my mac! help!

First, find out if the disc contains software for Mac OS X also, or only for Windows. This should be indicated in the camera user guide, or on the disc label. If it doesn't explicitly say it's for Mac OS X, then you have nothing to install (except possibly the camera's user guide in PDF format). You may try Sony's tech support site to find out if there is any Mac OS X software you can download. The camera's user guide or 'Get Started' doc should have this info also.

  • Pavilion dv6-3130tx Blue Screen (BSOD) on adding RAM to second slot

    Hi there,
I own a HP Pavilion dv6-3130tx with total of 3gb of RAM, one 1GB chip and one 2 GB chip. Recently I have been getting a lot of system crashes/freezes and occasional Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) with a variety of error messages. On contacting HP care in India they said to check the RAM chips and the slot for any problem. I have identified that the second slot is one creating the problem as the system crashes if use any one of the chips on that slot while both the RAMs work fine on the other slot.
Additionaly the RAM port/slot cannot be replaced as such, and since it is out of warranty getting the motherboard replaced isn't an alternative either.
So does anyone have any idea what might be the best way out of this problem?

Did the 3GB of RAM come with the computer or did you upgrade it at some point?
What version of Windows are you using?

  • Memory slot utility

    Hi everyone
I have just upgraded my mac pro early 2009 with an ATI 5870 and an extra 1gig of ddr3 ram.
All seems to be fine no problems all the ram checks out ok and is working but this utility keeps telling me everytime I boot up or log out and into another profile that the memory modules are installed in the correct slots which is really nice to know but does it have to tell me this every time as once is enough.
I have tried moving the memory modules around as slots 1 2 3 had the base ram installed at the factory I then added the extra 1 gig in the 4th slot and started getting the message as stated above. So I swapped the ram around with one of the base ram sticks and put one of them in the 4th slot still the same but when you remove the ram from slot 4 and boot up with 3gig of ram its all happy again.
So I then placed the ram in slot 4 3 and 2 leaving the 1st slot empty and the utility tells me it is the wrong configuration which is fine as thats expected as it will not give optimised preformance i just wanted to see its reaction.
I have phoned apple and they gave me a number for a local shop and the guy there said he has had this happen as well just make sure software and firmware are up to date and it should clear which of course they are  and I have double checked.
So for now I went into system on mac HD and then into core services and removed the memory slot utility and placed it somewhere else for safe keeping and it has stopped now but thats because it can't use the utility.
I am stumped I can't see this being hardware it seems it could be software or a bug not sure either way I am covered under warranty but I just want to get to the bottom of this other people have reported this on these forums but not mentioned how they got on.
My next step is to reinstall lion I have my old osx leopard cd's also and then I can reinstall everything else from scratch but this seems extreeme
If anyone has any ideas I would be really gratefull
    Kind Regards
    Martin

Thanks for the replies and the suggestions much appreciated for now I have disabled the memory slot utility as I know the memory is installed correctly so I don't need it.
I went into the finder then into systems and then core services and removed the memory slot utility which is no problem all fixed the only thing that does concern me is if it is a problem that needs addressing because if I need a new processor board I would rather apple pay for it while I am with applecare as those babies cant be cheap.
My applecare service expires next september so I will keep an eye on things for now.
I have done some more checks my ram is fine no problems my system checks out ok and all is running fine as it has for the past two years since I bought my mac pro.
All my ram is apple certified ram and they are all equal memory modules 1gig in size each.
Memory can be added to slots 1 2 3 no messages but any ram added to slot 4 and it tells me the memory modules are installed correctly which really warms my heart but just don't tell me this every time I boot up and log in and out it tends to get on your nerves after a while.
Also if we do something that is not correct like put memory in slot 4 3 2 leaving slot 1 empty it then gives you a longer message telling you its all wrong and to swap them around which is fine as I did that on purpose just to see what would happen.
So do you think I am worrying to much and I should just chill out on this I found my fix just take the memory slot utility out of core services and it is all fine or like X423424X said enabling root though I went for the safe option and just removed the memory utility.
I know I am not alone I have searched the web and on this forum and there are others out there and everyone has different solutions the guy I spoke to at my local apple authorised reseller said he had the same thing happen but it was his firmware but that is not the case for me and others as that is all up to date and my software is also current.
Do you think its a hardware issue or software is there cause for concern as these things are not cheap.
Again thanks for your suggestions and comments its appreciated if anyone does find out what this is please let me know as it is playing on my mind I am one of these people who has to find the solution or cause I can't leave things be.
    kind regards
    Martin

  • Slot-loading DV Display/HardDrive seize up

I am posting a conversation I have been having with a discussion board user, as I think it will be useful for others
On Fri, Feb 18, 2011 at 4:46 PM, <**@**.com> wrote:
    Hi Richard:
I've just been reading an exchange you had with someone named Graham in the UK about his iMac going black and becoming unresponsive. After a series of exchanges, you finished up (I think) with:
That can be a possibility. If it was the CPU temp that's causing this the entire logic board would have to have come loose or perhaps the conductive paste has dried out/failed, unlikely.
So upshot. In my experience the part that fails in these G3 iMacs is the PAV (The board you see when you look down from the top it's under the CRT and drives the monitor section. The logic board derives power from the PAV via down converter).
The shutting down is a classic symptom and the most irritating.
Others: No start - power light blinks or turns amber, video gets wonky - color shifts or size variations, sparks arcing sound, native screen is dark but external monitor works fine (not on option on your 350, no external spigot). This is why I've got 7 or so iMac G3s in my basement. Mostly 350s since I was given around 20 of them and I repaired and donated most into the inner city. The ones left have PAV problems.
    Wacky upgrade options:
I'm especially interested because here you mentioned the other main symptom I've noticed in my own version of the same problem: the "arcing sound" which I've been hearing almost from the start of my issues. Everything else almost mirrors his, except the time for the symptoms to kick in has reduced to less than 10 minutes.
I thought it might be the drive, so I've tried 2 different hd's, and it happens with both, and I tried running the iMac (400jhz slot loading) just off of CD, and it shut down then too!
Obviously, I've been inside the machine to replace the drives, with my teenage daughter's help (my eyes aren't so hot). I'm going to check for this OS X temperature software and see what it tells me. I did run a RAM checker, and it said it was all fine, so at least I know it's not that. I tried to get a version of Apple Hardware Checker for it (or whatever it's called) but it said the iMac DV would not run the software.
Do you still have those . . . PVA's? This machine is a perfect print server and backup hd and work stereo, and we have enjoyed tinkering with her in the past. If it wasn't TOO complex, I'd like to give it a try. I showed my daughter how to solder a battery cable onto a tester circuit board, so if that's the kind of thing we'd need to do, I'm game.
Let me know, and I'm looking for a temperature checker right now. Oh yea, and Tricia Helfer DOES look pretty hot.

That arcing sound is almost always the flyback transformer. That is on the PAV board which is basically the entire upper half of the computer. Here's a site in England where you can download the Service Manual for your machine.
    http://www.macmanuals.co.uk/
So since you have a 400 MHz machine it's one of the more desirable machines since it has firewire. 400 to 700 had them. As I mentioned in my post I would pull the logic board and transfer it to a working 350. If you look in the manual swapping the board is simple. Then again around Chicago these G3 iMacs are sold for $25 or less. Don't know the situation where you are.
I used to repair these but they've become so cheap that the board swap is now my chosen path.

Remember, I've swapped a harddrive and memory, but board changing is something I've never tried before:
So, are you saying that the PAv that might be creating these issues, being such a large part of the computer, should just be abandoned, and the logic board swapped into a 350 because of it's simplicity? Does the logic board contain the 400 mhz processor and firewire hookup, or would those be left behind on the 400 iMac's PAV board?
I'm looking at the manual, and you're right, pulling the logic board does look pretty simple, but I haven't found the answer to the above question yet, so I'll send it to you.
I emailed this to you because the original post a over a year old, and I wasn't sure you'd still be watching the discussion boards. Next time, I'll just 'trust to the boards', though I've only received 2/5 answers through it over the years.
    Thanks again.

    Carey,
So look at the pic I enclose. It's from the service manual.
So you've had the machine apart to this point, from here it's just the removal of the 10 screws to remove the logic board and down converter. They plug into the upper part via a couple of connectors. There could be a few plastic rivets that tie the board to the divider panel.
Does the logic board contain the 400 mhz processor and firewire hookup, or would those be left behind on the 400 iMac's PAV board?
That's all on the logic board.
Basically the iMac is a CRT display and speakers with a logic board underneath with the optical drive and the hard drive.
The board on top is called the PAV board ( power analog video) i. e. video power supply for a computer monitor. Power comes from that board and comes down to the "down converter" which changes it to logic board power, basically 12V and 5.5V DC. (These boards have been run "headless" but now not worth the trouble)
So your path from here will be determined by what kind of donor iMac you find. It must be a slot loader and the chances are it will be as fast or faster as your current machine.

    Hi Richard:
Well, despite your own circumstances with blueberries and strawberries falling from the computer sky, I've gone on 4 different user forums and several different 'used things for sale' websites, and so far the closest I can come to getting a used imac is having one shipped from the next province (about 500 miles) for about 50-60 bucks, or possibly one in the city which the poster said they wanted 200 bucks for. I've had no reply to my email to them, yet.
Would you be willing to sell me one of those PAV boards, if they're still kicking around? I would think the shipping would be much less than the whole darned computer.
If you don't still have them in piles around you, I may just have to turf the iMac entirely for budgetary reasons.
I guess with the much smaller population, the proliferation of iMacs is similarly reduced. There's only about 3 million people in Alberta, which is where I am.
    Let me know.
Greatly appreciate the information connections you've made for me.

    Hey Carey,
Well I was forced to leave all of my iMac G3 parts with a recycler in Chicago when I moved.
I actually found one here in Pocatello (town of 60K) for $25 so maybe you can find the same thing. I don't have a PAV board and they are very hard to swap out, don't think I ever did it.
So, thinking a bit more about your situation, since you're using it as a server, when it fails does it absolutely freeze up? On the 400 you can attach a VGA monitor to the spigot under the perferated oval grill under the bottom rear. The monitors can fail in these and still produce power to run the logic board. Around here you can get a cheap LCD 15" monitor for around $25. A CRT type you can probably get for free. So if you're lucky it can still work that way.
There were people who ran a logic board headless, but most of these are out of date:
    Here's a few:

Soo hopefully yours will fail and just the CRT will be involved.

Perhaps one of your RAM modules has gone belly up. To test this, remove both RAM modules and start up. If the RAM is the cause of the problem, the computer will respond with a complaining chime, and of course go no further. But that will indicate the RAM is cause, and you can go to the next step; try to start up with just one of the RAM modules installed - either one. If that gets you nowhere, try the other one.
If the problem is not bad RAM, it is beyond my expertise to help. Sorry.

  • Question about Memory Slots on Equium notebook

I am putting in more Memory and the Manufacturer tells me to put the largest capacity Memory module in Socket No "0"
Can somebody please tell me how I will know which one is "0" and which is "1"
I have taken 512 MB module out of right hand stack and put in new 2GB Memory module. This gives me 512Mb in Left and 2GB in right.

    Hi David
Usually its no matter what memory module was placed in the single slot
The notebook should recognize both without any problems
    But back to your question;
The slots should be marked as 0 and 1. You should find these numerals somewhere near to the slots but once again you can use both modules in different slots ;)

  • How to install Win 7 pro 64-bit on new SSD in WWAN slot?

I tried two generic Win 7 installation disks and get the error code 0x80070570 for 64-bit installs.   Did a lot of searching and reading, unplugged everything, did a memory check and just can't get past that error.  32-bit installs ok on the SSD in the WWAN slot.
Did some reading here and from what I could see you can't use the factory restore to the new drive.
Is upgrading this this machine as discussed at  https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T520-upgrade-hard-drive-and-memory/m-p/205... not possible?

Have you tried a USB installer?
Boot Camp Assistant will now ask if you want to install the Windows installer with the Boot Camp Dirvers onto a USB drive on some supported and not so support machines.
Do a search for "Windows USB installer" on Yahoo/Google and there should be quite a few.

I use my MBP's Express card slot to transfer SxS video cards, and sometimes connect to eSata drives.
With each usage it seems to be unstable. Often when trying to eject card or adaptor it crashes showing a, turn off and restart computer message.
So I would restart computer, and I continue on. I was kind of used to this,,,
But this time around, my system did not start up after the reboot. It showed a "non-smoking sign without the cigarette" Sorry I don't know what you calll these. I think it means can't find system folder?
I hope someone can point me to a fix.
I did a PRam reset about 3 times. but no change.
I did a safe boot, and ran disk utility permissions and there were pleanty of wrong permissions... So I fixed that twice, the same permissions seemed to be wrong again. I don't know if it really fixed anything...
And I also tried to set startup disk to the internal hard disk. I don't know if that really made a difference...
I then relaunched it as a disk drive to read it on another mac, and ran disk utilities and it reported nothing is wrong with this disk...
Will reverting back to a time machine save do anything? Might give it a try.
I remember way back when I bought this MBP, One of the first trial with the SxS gave me the same "non-" sign on startup, that I fixed. So I know there is a fix, I just couldn't find it on the forum.
I hope I get my MBP running soon!

I've got my N97 mini since several years ago, and now I meet a problem. I was trying to put my micro-sim with a adapter in it to check if it works, but unfortunately, when I was pulling it out, it got stuck. Then I used a little bit force. However, after it successfully came out, I suddenly found that the SIM card slot tray holder bended and was a total mess.
Have anyone else experienced like this? How and where to repair it in VIC? And how much does it cost?
Thanks for all the guys who answer me! ^ ^

    hi mate,
Oh no. Did the same thing with my N8 a few years back and had to have it replaced at a Nokia Care point. I really feel for you buddy as it is quite catastrophic and can damage the phone. Your best bet is to actually follow the Nokia Care procedures on the Nokia Australia website. All the Nokia Care points across Australia have closed down (here in Perth, and one I saw in Melbourne on that main street near the main railway station, Flinders is it called, that one is closed down too). Therefore the procedure is that you have to send it off to Rydlemere in NSW where they will assess whether they can repair then mail it back to you.

  • IMac 27inch built in SD slot not detecting

Recently, I wanted to use my SD slot to upload pictures from my camera. It has been working fine before and now all of sudden it doesn't read the card at all once I put in the built in slot on the side. At first I thought it was the SD card but when I plugged it to the usb with an all in one card reader it was able to detect the card and pictures. I was wondering if anyone also had the same problem with their SD slot not working on the side. It won't even show anything at all when I use it. Is the SD slot not working?
    Thanks.

thanks for your input, but please read the original post.
SDHC cards also work and there are images on the card. As I mentioned in the original post, it was working normally before the update. After the update, the card is only recognized when using a 3rd party USB card reader. A subsequent post also stated the SMC reset did not work. Disk Utility sees the card in the built in card slot but will not mount it and gives the status as 'Read Only'. Is there a way to upload screenshots so you can see what I mean?
if anyone from apple is here I can send you whatever logs you need.

I've only been using my SD slot for a week or so and it was working great. Today I inserted the card into the slot and it won't recognize it. I was being really careful and I made sure I ejected the card each time I used it. Is the slot shot or did something happen with the software? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Did you find a resolution to your problem?
I have a similar problem: Finder doesn't recognize my SD card in my reader. Yet, it is visible to Mail (Version 3.6 (936)) via the attachment listing. Which is the terrible work around I've been forced to use. I shut down to eject. I replaced the reader & it recognized it for a couple days, but out of the blue it choked again.
