Repeated Faults - 7 faults in 7 months - who arran...

Any help appreciated !!!
I've had repeated faults over the last couple of years, and these are repeating more frequently now.  The root cause is that our phone line lies in a ditch for part of it's journey to our house, and is regularly either waterlogged, subject to theft attempts, or damaged by crossing deer.  The deer are probably the most common culprits, as now that the wire has been ripped up several times it is just a constant trip hazard for them.  In the space of 100 meters there are over 5 junctions in the wires also, which is just adding to the fragility.
Our latest fault today follows a fault on Monday which was fixed on Wednesday.  Laughable until it happens to you.
Who in BT can I contact (other than a call centre or robot) to insist they elevate the cable onto proper poles so that these problems stop recurring ?  The OpenReach engineers are only authorised to fix each individual fault, and the call centre staff only care about each individual fault also.
Help me someone ?  A link, email address or phone number that gets me through to someone with some authority or willingness to find a long-term fix that will save BT money on an ongoing basis !!!!

'to insist they elevate the cable onto proper poles so that these problems stop recurring'
It is probably cheaper to just send engineers out like they are now then it would be to put up poles, which cost in excess of £600 per pole. Ducting it would be even more money.
BT and Openreach have pretty much all their money tied up in the Next Generation Access Fibre Network at the moment so you might just have to hold out until the year 2017 at the earliest.

  • This repeat-repeat-repeat fault is isolating a 90 ...

I do not say this lightly. We are desperate to fix this problem.
An engineer is booked but many have faled already so a well-founded diagnosis would be welcome.
(Non-engineers can skip to the bottom of the page to see the latest in atrocious customer service.)
This is a repeat fault - about 4 times over 3 years.
On one occasion the 'fix' only lasted 4 days.
On another the engineer left without fixing anything.
The next guy persuaded it to work for a few months.
    And here we are again.
Sometimes the line works but it is very unreliable.
Using the line a lot seems to clear it up temporarily.
User diagnotics (except line test) always point to the BT line.
Often the outgoing audio starts off at zero.
Next thirty seconds the outgoing voice is very buzzy.
Eventually the outgoing voice becomes audible.
Sometimes the outgoing audio stays at zero.
    Tone dialling is dodgy.
Sometimes a 'redial' fails but dialling very slowly succeeds.
Sometimes the dial tone continues when trying to dial.
Sometimes even 1 handset connected directly does not work properly.
Things get much worse if a microfilter is used.
Connecting/disconnecting the router seems to make no difference.
We have tried at least 3 working handsets and 6 working microfilters.
All items work fine on a similar BT line elsewhere.
Some were even new items bought from the BT shop.
The automated line test seems to pass 99% of the time.
Yet sometimes even BT helpdesk cannot hear our outgoing voice.
This line supports a carelink phone.
My father in-law is 90 and has health issues.
It is unbelievable that this problem has not been traced and fixed.
BT Customer service 'help' line ???
In 40 plus minutes the "help" desk pushed me beyond furious.
The first Indian faults helper took all the details.
Then she told me to get my local engineer to investigate and that he should contact BT engineers.
She then passed me to billing for no obvious reason.
The lady in billing spoke better English.
She took a few details and then passed me back to faults.
The next guy seemed technically clueless.
I told him that 6 different designs of microfilter did not fix it.
This included a T-shaped one and two with captive leads.
All 6 worked elsewhere on a BT line with broadband.
He insisted that the fix was to change the microfilter drop cable.
(What, all 6 have a broken 'drop cable' ? Really ???)
He then REFUSED to send an engineer because auto-test found no faults.
So, no diagnostic skills and unwilling to satisfy a direct request !
(Who hired him and how did he get in at all ?)
It then took repeated requests and a non-abusive but long and exceedingly
stressful verbal fight just to get someone sent out to fix this.
What happened next seems to prove that outsourcing BT call centres is a real disaster.
It also underlines that helpdesks don't have to be unspeakably stressful for the customer.
The UK engineering appointments lady called me and was very helpful.
She suggested that the line should be flagged because of his age and health.
She seemed to be the one who was able to cheerfully provide me with some actual help.
    Solved!

    This was reported on Sunday.
(= repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat fault in recent memory).
I was told it would be fixed on Monday.
(The engineers had received the task early Monday)
I was told it would be fixed on Tuesday afternoon or at worst Weds morning.
Then I was told definitely today.
No sign of any repair activity AT ALL.
    This is a 'vulnerable' case.
He has been left isolated AGAIN for more than three days.
(5 days if you count the the original error that cut him off)
What on earth is going on ?
The prority care person hung up after 3 rings (I counted).
I picked the phone up and got "dead air" at the other end.
Apparently that counts as a communication attempt.
I have emailed two different mods but they are clearly both
too busy with faults in general to reply yet.
Is anyone actually going to DO something to fix thiis ?

I am a professional photographer of many years standing and at the moment I have a student for 12 months, who I am teaching how to use various Adobe programs, but to introduce her to video editing, I have purchased Adobe Premier Elements 13 which is less complicated than the Premier Pro that I use. The program works perfectly, except for one thing.... when adding a title to the short video sequence we are working with, if I use a particular font (Metallophile Sp8) which I obtained from my Adobe Typekit, it crashes the program,.... all other fonts work perfectly....can anybody help me please?

    clivephoto
What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running on? And what video card/graphics card does this computer use?
From your description, can I assume that this Mettallophile Sp8 font is being recognized by Premiere Elements 13 to the extent
that it can be seen and remains seen in Titler's list of font choices - even after the crashes?
If you opened a new project, imported nothing, and created a text title in the Titler with this Mettallophile Sp8 font, does the program crash?
Please review the following which discuss fonts and Premiere Elements and determine if anything in it helps.

  • Repeated fault (Shuffles won't play): have others experienced this?

The fault: the iPod Shuffle (2nd gen.) syncs happily with the host computer, and downloaded tracks will play through the computer. But when I disconnect the iPod and press Play, all I get is the green-orange-orange sequence that says "Please Restore me". Restore does not cure it, nor does Reset using the iPod Reset Utility (downloaded separately from Apple).
This has now happened to me on THREE new iPod Shuffles. (Since my first purchase in September 2008, I have had four replacements from Apple, so five Shuffles in all - is this a record? Numbers 3-5 all failed with the problem just outlined - no. 3 after some use, nos. 4 and 5 out of the box. Nos. 1 and 2 failed but not with this fault.)
Normally I sync with iTunes on a PC (XP Home) but I have also synced no. 5 with my partner's iMac (after resetting with the OS X version of the Reset utility) and the result is the same.
Just now the problem is with Apple and the dealer (iPod no. 5 was couriered directly to me by Apple, nos. 2-4 were replacements through the dealer).
It looks (to the Apple technical support folk) like a hardware problem - so I'd be interested in knowing if any other recent purchasers of Shuffles have had this problem. I'm in Australia, by the way.
    Thanks.

Following further tests (I even have two Shuffles to test with now, as no one has asked for no. 4 back yet!):
Thanks kbeartx. I now think you're 100% right. I was looking in the wrong direction, being quite unaware of 'skip when shuffling'. I'm posting a fuller explanation of how my dealers and the Apple technical support staff failed to ask the right questions (and the Shuffle and iTunes documentation could be improved) but here are the questions I and they failed to ask:
A did the error code flash when you tried to switch the iPod on, or only after you had switched on and then pressed play?
    B are you using podcasts?
C (if so) is your Pod set to Shuffle? (if so, try play-in-order to see if it makes a difference)
(The point of A is that I now understand that there are two error codes used by the Shuffle - well-separated in the list in the pdf documentation - but they occur in different contexts, one when you switch the Shuffle on, the other only when after switching on you press any button. [OK they also last different durations, but because I was not aware there were the two I did not reach for the stopwatch...])

  • How to repeat event as first wednesday of month?

How do I set up a repeating event on same day of week each month?

    Hi Gabriel,
In iCal edit your event. In repeat select 'custom'. There select 'Yearly' from the frequency option. Set the options to be every 1 years in June on the last Saturday.

  • I bought a ipod at target and the screen shatered after three months who  do i call about the warranty ?

i bought my ipod 5 g on october 26 2013 three months later it shatered because a bowel fell on it and its cracked every where on the screen . the screen has lines a 4 white boxs on it and can not be used . i was wondering if thier was a warrenty on it and for how long ? if thier is who can i talk to to get it repared ?

unless you have apple care you cannot get it fixed but you can get credit to buy another one, you could find a local company to replace the screen on your ipod but that would cost $100 plus, but this will void the ablility to trade it in later

  • Repeating events - 1st Tuesday of every month?

I have a lot of meetings that occur monthly (even twice monthly), for example on the 1st Tuesday, or 3rd Wednesday. There does not seem to be a function to allow this. Am I missing something? Has anyone come up with a workaround? (aside from manually entering each meeting?)
That and an ability to categorize events, say...kids, work, home, etc

You need to create the recurring event in Outlook and sync it. For example, if you create a meeting on the 1st Wednesday of every month, and sync it, when you go to the iPhone event, the recurrence will be set to CUSTOM (which is NOT one of the choices when you are creating an event directly on the iPhone). The event will replicate correctly onto the iPhone. Any changes to the event, however, need to be made in Outlook and synced.
There is NO category support for events or contacts on the iPhone. Boooooo....

  • How do I get an iongoing fault dealt with?

I'm dealing with this on behalf of my sister who is being stressed out by the problems with her phine and trying to get BT/OpenReach to deal with it.
My sister's phone developed a fault in 2011 since which time it has had a intermittent fault the symptons of which have varied. Sometimes she can't make or receive calls - at other times she can make but not receive calls and at other times the line is so crackly that the phone is unusable.
Each time a fault has been reported and in the time it has taken for an engineer to visit the phone has started working again and an engineer states that as the phone is working nothing can be done!
On the first visit the fault was blamed on my sister's phone equipment so we bought new phone - the fault reoccured and my sister plugged a wired phone into the phone input socket where the line comes into the house and the fault was still apparent.
Since 2011 we have lost count of the number of times an engineer has been called out and been unable to help due to the 'intermittent' nature of the fault. One engineer did investigate further and found some corroded wiring at a nearby outside junction box we he rectified and we thought this would solve the problem
A few weeks ago we found that my sister couldn't receive calls - when I rang her the phone rang once and either went dead or I was told there was a fault on the line. We called an engineer who did his usual tests and siadthe line was fine. My sister asked him to ring here phone which he did letting the phone ring once before hanging up. My sister explained that he needed to let the phone ring but he wouldn't listen and aooarently reported the fault as fixed.
I rand the 150 number as soon as my sister emailed me to tell me what had happened and I asked the person on the helpdesk to ring my sister's number himself. The phone rang once and cut out! I asked him if he thought the fault had been repaired and so he reported the fault again to OpenReach who said would have to put the report back into their system and a visit was arranged for the Tuesday after the May Bank Holiday.  WE waited for a call on Tuesday to arrange a time for the visit and when no call was forthcoming I rang 150 again to be told that a visit would be made on the Wednesday morning.
I travelled to my sister's to wait for the engineer and when no-one showed up rang 150 again to be told that openReach said the report hadn't appeared on their system.  BY this time my complaint had been raised to manager level having already dealt with 3 different supervisors who had failed to ring me back as promised on several occasions.
Again I was told that a report had to be put through the system and the earliest visit would be Friday of that week. Unfortunately I was unable to be at my sister's on that day so a visit was arranged for today Monday 13 between 8:00 and 13:00. Again I set off from home 10 miles away to wait for an engineer. By 13:00 no engineer had visited so I called 150 again to speak to the manager that I had been dealing with. I was promised a call back withing 30 minutes.
Whilst I was waiting my sister's phone rang - it had started working again after over a fortnight of her not being able to receive calls at all and on occasion not make them either. After an hour my call to 150 was returned by the manager who told me the OpenReach hadn't visited as the report hadn't appeared on their system - the second time we had been given this reason in less than a week. The manager said he would raise a fault and get someone to come out on Wednesday but I told him that now after a fortnights downtime the phone was working again and that they had lost the window of opportunity for diagnosing the fault and we would be back on the spiral of reporting a fault - being given an engineer's appointment at  which if the engineer turned up he would tell us that the phone was now working and no fault could be detected so nothing could be done! Over the last few days we have wasted three half days and in my case 3 wasted return journeys of 10 miles each way during the rush hour to wait for a non existent engineer. Not to mention hours spent on the phone repeating the same things and listening to the same excuses and promises that were never kept.
This caused considerable problems as my sister has health issues that mean I need to know I can be in regular contact with her. She has a mobile phone but as it is a pay and go it is used for emergencies only and on one occasion she had accidentally left her phone upstairs. Unfortunately this was at a time that I needed to contact her urgently and her phone at this point wasn't even ringing once to register an incoming call (she was ringing me whenever the phone rang once to check whether I was trying to get through). I was over an hour's travel time away and just couldn't raise her which caused me much anxiety.
As I said my sister has health issues and feels very vulnerable without a reliable phone and for my part I worry that if my sister needs help she will not be able to contact me. Already I headed off to chack on het when I have been unable to raise her by phone.
Can anyone suggest how we are ever going to get out of this impasse? WE would change phone providers but it would appear that even if we do OpenReach would still be responsible for maintaining the line so we would have the same problem.
To be honest it feels as though due to our complaining OpenReach have blacklisted us and are avoiding visiting - maybe we are being paranoid but this is how it feels.
I did try to fill in the Customer Care form but it appears that I needed to have started a thread here before I could do so.

  • Can one of the Mods escalate my fault to the next ...

I cannot use the phone and broadband together. My ip profile has been stuck at 135kbps for over a week, probably 2 weeks now.
I dont like it, my family dont like it. It sucks. The problem has been fixed but has returned after a month or so of broadband bliss. (750kbps nearly all the time, videos would very nearly stream, I want it back!!!!)
India this time have been as much use as a cat bra. How can I get the fault escalated to someone who cares, really cares about customer experience?

  • 5 days to fix a phone fault

A number of phones are out in the Kesgrave area (0147362) including my parenst and they have been told I won't be fixed until 13th. How can we / they get the money they / we  are spending on mobile phone calls back?

You can't claim compensation, that is something you get when you are in an accident that isn't your fault or for people who are too lazy and ignorant to go out and do an honest day’s work so they just keep begging people and companies for what they perceive as being inconvenienced in the everyday pathetic little life.
You can however claim under the BT Customer Service Guarantee Scheme, basically BT have three working days to repair a fault. If for whatever reason they don't they will start to pay a daily line rental rebate until the day the fault is fixed.
If you have a call diversion to a mobile then instead of getting the daily line rental back you get £1 a day towards the cost of mobile calls.
