I have tried all suggestions I could find on this listserve without success. It just keeps asking for passwords. Any and all help welcome.
Thanks,

  • Repeated requests for passwords at login, Mail, Safari

My G4 suddenly wants my passwords all of the time; when logging in, when checking email, when on the internet. I've reset the preferences, checked and double-checked all of the settings and can't figure out why. I've used this computer for five years without this problem. I've run system utilities, deleted my keychain and made a new one, gone through all of the steps I can think of but I'm obviously missing something.

The keychain is unlocked and yes, the passwords are
the same. The computer should startup without asking
for a password, but it does. And everytime I go onto
the internet, it asks for my keychain password.
Granted this is only a minor annoyance, but I do not
understand why it is suddenly doing this.
Have you looked in the Access Control tab for the keychain items that ask for your password?
There are a couple of radio buttons:
o Allow all applications to access this item
    o Confirm before allowing access
and the last one has a check box:
    Ask for Keychain passwrod
Maybe the defaul is to ask confirmation.
Note that every item has this choice.

  • Repeated requests for password

New problem with Mail, one I've had before and never been able to figure out how to really resolve it. Very often now, a dialog box pops up with this message:
    Enter password for Account “Primary”
The POP server “pop.att.yahoo.com” rejected the password for user “---”
Please re-enter your password, or cancel.
I put the password in, click on "save in keychain" and then a piece or two of mail comes in, but very soon, the same dialog box pops up again. What's going on here?
    Thanks,
    Judy

I just dug up an old email from AT&T from the last time this happened to me awhile back... I think it's still relevant, even though I don't think they'd admit to this now.
    here's part of it:
"In using the Mac Mail, the reason why that a pop up dialog box keeps on appearing every 2 - 30 minutes is because of a network event detected. This network event states that customers are prompted for their password when using POP clients, such as Microsoft Outlook, Mac Mail for email. Unfortunately, there is currently no Estimated Time of Restoral (ETR).
To access your Mail, you may use the AT&T Web mail. Please do the following:
    1. Open your browser [Safari or Firefox] and in the address bar insert the address http://sbc.yahoo.com.
    2. Insert your member ID [[email protected]] and password.
    3. Click on the [Mail] icon.
If you did not encounter the issue using the web mail, you may need to recreate your e-mail account on your Mac Mail. Please follow the steps below:
    1. From the Mac Mail toolbar click [Mail].
    2. Select the [Preferences] option. The Account window will appear.
    3. Click on the [+ (plus)] button on the bottom-left corner of the Accounts window. The New Account wizard window will appear.
    4. Select the [Continue] button to launch the email configuration walk-through.
    5. Select [POP] as the Account Type from the [General Information] screen and enter the following information before selecting [Continue].
[Account Description]: Give an Account name.
    [Full Name:] Your Name
[Email Address:] Email address of account being configured
    6. Enter the following information on the Incoming Mail Server screen and select
    [Continue].
    Incoming Mail Server
User Name: This should be the complete e-mail address
    Password
    7. From the [Incoming Mail Security] screen, verify the following before selecting [Continue]:
    8. There is not a check mark in the [Use Secure Sockets Layer(SSL)] box.
[Password] is selected from the Authentication dropdown selection.
    9. From the Outgoing Mail Server screen, enter the following information before selecting [Continue] (ensure the Use Authentication box is checked):
    Outgoing Mail Server
    User Name (Complete email address)
    Password
    10. From the [Outgoing Mail Security] screen, verify the following before selecting [Continue]:
Password is selected from the Authentication drop-down.
The Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) box is not checked.
    Screenshot: Outgoing Mail Security
    11. From the Account Summary screen, verify the information then select [Continue].
    12. Select [Done] when the [Conclusion] screen appears to exit the wizard.
If after recreating the account and still you encounter the problem, you may need to have your Mac Mail client to be checked. Unfortunately, AT&T does not configure third party e-mail clients. You may need to call AT&T Support + or your Original Equipment Manufacturer, Apple. AT&T Support + is a fee-based technical support service that would be glad to assist you. You can reach AT&T Support + at 1-866-294-3464 or Apple at 800-767-2775."
    (numbers might be different now)
Anyway, I think this is pretty much why, at least for my situation... and that's why it comes and goes away on it's own, because they're working on their servers, or some such. I think right now, AT&T are doing major work with their internet, u-verse, etc so it would make sense that some of us are experiencing these drops at this time, plus whatever issues Mac Mail contributes. So that's my 2 cents.
    have a great day.

  • Repeated request for icloud password on booting

Recently, and every time I boot, I get repeated requests for my icoud password.
I have started cancelling the request and can't see any difference.
Wonder how I can stop this.

Try running Keychain First Aid and resetting the original keychain.

  • Not able to open mail from my mac, gmail repeatedly asking for password. but using same password able to open gmail on safari

not able to open mail from my mac, gmail repeatedly asking for password. but using same password able to open gmail on safari

okay well they got me to take out some .plist files to see if that would help it didn't. I'm not sure what ones that they deleted for my self maybe someone here would be abel to tell you what ones to take out but didn't work the one that came close to working was this going into keychain and deleting the account(s) then reading them again.
if you are to do this please back up first with Time Machine. You can do this with a usb drive.
Okay so go back to where you had internet accounts and make sure mail is shut. click the - on the account your having problems with then quit system preferences.
Okay so then press cmd and space bar at the same time then type 'keychain access' into the search then click on 'keychain access'
once it is open go to the top of the window and put your email address that you are having problems with.
once you have put in your full email, have a look at what comes up i deleted things in the kind colome with 'internet password' and anything with under name that had smtp.gmail.com or imap.gmail.com so it would look like this, map.gmail.com - internet password.
right click and delete them. make sure not to touch any other files that dont say them things on them.
Once you have done this quit keychain access and then restart the computer, once the computer is restarted go back to system preferences and internet accounts and re-add the account.
Hope this helps. if something is not clear just ask.

  • Hacked email. PW reset. Constant requests for passwords come up in several apps.

MacBook 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. 3 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. OS 10.7.5.
After XXXXXXX@bellsouth email was hacked I got pw reset and email receipt/send is fixed (except for these pw request popups).
Constant requests for passwords come up during use of different pieces of sw, incl all those listed below:
"syncdefaultsd wants to use the xxxxxxxxx keychain"
    and
"SafariDAVclient wants to use the xxxxxxxxx keychain"
    and
"ICAL wants to use the xxxxxxxxx keychain"
    and
"AddressBookSourceSink wants to use the xxxxxxxxx keychain"
    and
"Messaging Agent wants to use the xxxxxxxxx keychain"
    and
"ICAL can't login to your XXXXXXX account because your password may be incorrect",
    where xxxxxxxxx is consistent.
I thought I had fixed this in Keychain but evidently I have not. Putting the passwords in does not 'keep' them in place.
Any help with how to basically 'start over' with keychain and eliminate this annoying, constant problem?
    Thank you ahead of time.

  • New iPad repeated requests for iCloud ID

Since setting up my new iPad (3rd generation) I have been plagued with repeated requests for my iCloud ID/Apple ID. It happens at least once a day, often when I open the device in the morning, but also happens during the day when waking the iPad from sleep. I never had this problem with my old iPad 2.  Any help appreciated.

  • Repeated requests for user name and password

I am suddenly getting repeating requests to provide my user name and password but the requesting screen already has this information filled in. Each time I press OK the request returns. Is this a server problem?
    Solved!

A quick look through this board will reveal that this has been an intermittent problem with BT Yahoo! for ages and is one of the reasons are moving to a new BT Mail (which itself has stalled because of problems). Meanwhile, logging in direct to webmail then out again has been known to overcome the password issue.

  • Keep getting a request for password "for the CalDAV account for my email account when I log in my iPhone password. ????

I keep getting a request "for the CalDAv account" when I log in using my iPhone password on my iPhone.  Just started happening.   ????

If you are unable to remember your password, security questions, don’t have access to your rescue address or are unable to reset your password for whatever reason, your only option is to contact AppleCare(or Apple ID Support), upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.
The operator will take you through some steps you may have already tried, however they need to be sure they have exhausted all usual approaches before trying to reset your account, so you should try to be helpful and show patience with the procedure.
The operator will need to verify they are speaking to the account holder and may ask you some questions that only the account holder could know, and you will need to answer them if the process is to proceed.
Once the operator has verified your identity they will send a message through to your device which contains an alpha numeric code, which you will need to read back to them.
Once this has been completed they will send an email to your iCloud email address after a period of 24 hours, so you should check that mail is enabled in your devices iCloud settings.
Upon receipt of the email, use the reset link provided to reset your password, after which you should be able to make the adjustments to iCloud that you wish to do.

  • Repeated requests for authorization after migration to 10.6

Recently migrated from my old eMac to a new Mini running OS10.6.
Itunes repeatedly asks for authorization on certain songs - those bought with an old AOL ID back in the day. I enter the ID and PW, then itunes tells me this ID has been changed to an Apple ID. I enter the Apple ID and PW and itunes tells me the computer is authorized. But the old songs still wont play - just repeats the problem over and over again.
I've deauthorized all the IDs' and reauthorized - no luck.
I've deleted the SC folder and reauthorized - no luck.
    Thanks for any ideas!

I did contact support and got the same advice. However - I found the answer!
When I would attempt to authorize by using my old AOL ID i would get an answer telling me that Apple had created an Apple ID for this old account and asking me to log in using this converted Apple ID account. I would do so, but would leave off the "@aol" ending in the Apple ID field (thinking that it wasn't neccessary since I wasn't logging into AOL). Turns out this is the key - the ID needs to have the complete ending.
Once I authorized using an Apple ID of "[email protected]" with the correct password everything worked.
Whew! Three days of screwing around on that one.
    Thanks for everyones suggestions!

I am trying to update my apps on my iPod touch. I get repeated requests to verify my account information without ever getting connected to iTunes and downloding the information.

  • BitLocker Activated - Not request for password

    Hi friends!
Today I activated the BitLocker on my operating system (C:\), without the use of TPM.
But, in the startup the operating system is not prompted for the password for decrypt, why?
How can I do to request the password to decrypt the BitLocker drive every time I boot the operating system?
    I use the Windows 8.1.
    Thank you

    Hi,
Generally speaking, this events only occures when BitLocker encryption failed. Therefore, please check your C drive encryption status firstly.
If C drive encrypted, how about reboot your PC? Will the problem occures? Please feel free let us know.

  • Photoshop CS6 Repeated request for license number

How can I stop CS6 repeatedly requesting entry of the license number.
It is becoming a real pain!!

Here we are on January 6th and still no solution.
Having paid nearly £200 for the upgrade all I have received is a considerable amount of trouble. The problem has not only affected my upgrade to CS6 but it also seems to have stopped my RAW file processing in CS5 so that I am unable to undertake my normal working procedures.
Do ADOBE at head office know of these problems (I am aware that others have experienced similar difficulties.)?
I shall copy this reply to Adobe Systems in Ireland and UK as I feel that I have had a very raw deal in this matter. My computer systems are not unusual and are kept up to date. I have no problems with any other software and have only experienced these difficulties with Photoshop since the upgrade to CS6. Frankly it would seem that Adobe are now only interested in supporting those who are prepared to pay stupid monthly sums of cash!!!!
I have used, and still use:-  Adobe Premier, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Soundbooth and Adobe Audition and have had no difficulties with any of this software. I was seriously considering the purchase of Adobe InDesign but it appears that you only wish to support Cloud Membership purchases now so I shall have to re-think that as well. I’m really fed up with Adobe at present. After 30 odd years it would seem you no longer require my patronage.
Having got that off my chest! I look forward to the session with Adobe to resolve these issues tomorrow at 12:00.
    Will post the result later.

  • Repeated requests for "librariand wants to use login keychain"

I am frequently getting dialogue box requests for "librariand wants to use login keychain"....
I understand this is an Apple process, apparently related to iCloud... but how many times does it need to interrupt me?!
There is no "check to remember" option.
Any way to get it to cease?

  • Repetitive requests for password

I use AOL mail. Recently, Thunderbird started repetitively asking for passwords even though they are saved. Sometimes clicking retry or x'ing it out seems to let it go forward. I did switch from pop to imap so don't know if that is part of the problem. It happens randomly and especially if I select a saved folder. I even deleted Thunderbird and the associated appdata files and did a new download to reinstall. The problem still happens. I have also experienced it with my laptop so I think it is a Thunderbird problem, but will have to discontinue using Thunderbird if it continues. Would hate to do that as I have used the program for years and have really enjoyed it.

I think I have fixed the problem. I started to think that if the retry would work after a while then maybe Thunderbird was not allowing enough time for AOL to connect and respond. I opened the configuration manager and searched for timeout entries and found that email server timeouts were all set at 29. I doubled them all to 60 and now Thunderbird seems to be behaving properly.
As this is a recent problem I don't know if AOL response time has slowed down or if a recent Thunderbird update changed the AOL default. Either way I think the answer if for Mozilla to increase the default timeout for AOL email.
Thanks to christ1 for the response. It didn't solve the issue, but it did get me to thinking about the speed issue between Thunderbird and AOL and that led me to the solution.
