Replace data in spreadsheet

Hi all,
I have to replace a data present at specific index in a spreadsheet file which already exists.
one way is to read the spreadsheet file replace the element and again write it to the file but the file in which i am writing
will be having huge number of entries, so it would be difficult to go by this method,
anyone can suggest another method

Is the spreadsheet file a binary Excel file or a tab separated text file? If the former is the case, then you can use ActiveX. If the latter, the complexity of the solution will depend on how regular the field width of your data is.
Field Width Constant
This is an easy case. You can directly calculate the offset to the location in the file and simply overwrite it. Make sure you overwrite with exactly the same field width.
Field Width Not Constant
Search for the row first by searching for CR/LF pairs in the file. Once you find the row, search for field separators (probably TAB) to find the field. Find the start and the end of the field you want to overwrite, then overwrite the whole thing, but nothing more. You can cache line position inforrmation as you go so that subsequent searches are much faster.

Are you looking to automate this?
You can bring up the form in Acrobat and go file->Form Data -> Create Spreadsheet from data files. You would then select all the files (xml) to put in the spreadsheet.

Easiest way to do it is the following:
- Open the PDF file in Acrobat.
- Go to Tools - Forms - More Form Options - Export Data.
- Save the form data as an XML file somewhere on your system.
- Open XML the file in a plain-text editor (I recommend Notepad++).
- Let's say you want to replace all the years in the dates from "2013" to "2014". Do a global Search&Replace of "2013-" to "2014-" (I added the dash just to make sure that only date fields are edited).
- Save the XML file (maybe under a new name).
- Go back to the PDF file, and now go to Tools - Forms - More Form Options - Import Data.
- Select the edited XML file and import it.
- Done!

Adobe Pro V 8 collecting forms data into spreadsheet

according to the tutorial included in V8, once forms have been returned, I am to open the saved form blank and then:
Choose File > Form Data> Create Spreadsheet from Data Files
HOWEVER, this menu choice is not available to me, not even grayed out.
why isn't this menu available?

I suppose you created the form in Designer. In such a case, you may have to do the process in Designer, not Acrobat.

You should post the VI (with appropriate values saved as default) to this thread. (At least a JPEG or PNG screenshot).
Inside the For Loop, right-click on the N terminal and create Indicator. Run the VI and you will see how many times the Loop spins.
Further guessing: You may have a 2D array with two rows and many columns feeding the For Loop.

Retrieving Replaced data

In the process of saving our information files were lost. In attempts to reverse the process THE MAIN AUDIO FILE that we use to create songs, was replaced by another file of the Same Name. My attempts at using time machine failed because it wont go further back in time. My question is Can i retrieve replaced data from the computer?

No. If you overwrite a file, which is apparently what you did, then the old file is unrecoverable. See,
Basics of File Recovery
If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location. OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. If a program does an immediate delete rather than moving files to the Trash, then the files are gone. Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When files are deleted only the directory entries, not the files themselves, is modified. The space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage, but the files are still on the drive. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten with recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

Choose File Form Data Create Spreadsheet - where is this dialogue?

This is the dialogue I need to use my pdf to generate the spreadsheet so i can add returned forms. However, nowhere can I find;
Choose File>Form Data>Create Spreadsheet from Data Files
This is found in the quick start tutorials in the section entitled "Collecting the data in a spreadsheet" - section number 2
How the heck do I either a) Find it
b) Set up my Adobe software to show it
or c) Create the right file that "encourages" this option to be seen when I open Acrobat (Pro 9).
I am mightily confused and, having looked around the internet, am not alone in this.

Thank you so much Paul. I have been trying all day to locate the method by which I could create a spreadsheet using the pdf submit route. I suppose the tutorial in CS4 should have been changed to reflect the changed explanations, but I guess that would be difficult to do. Anyway it worked and I can now do the analysis I need from my customers (lots of pupils!).

How to read data from spreadsheet as a look up table

Hello Can anybody please help me out in this..??
I want to read data from a spreadsheet file as it is a look up table.
I want to create a program which lets the user enter an element which is be found in the data in the spreadsheet file and gives back the number which is to the adjoining column of the element in the spreadsheet file.
Example i have the following data in spreadsheet file:
Range Count
2              10
4              49
6              60
Etc.
If i enter 2 to search the data in the spreadsheet file, i do expect the program replies back with the answer 10 and so on...
Can anyone please help out...

me and my partner use the same laptop for our itunes. itunes used to recognise our phones as 2 seperate devices but now doesnt therefore has replaced data including contacts with my partners. please help!

If you have a backup of your phone, then restore from that backup.

Writing data to spreadsheet in FOR loop without shift register

My program has a case window within a For loop. The loop iteration index is wired to the case, so there’s a case for each iteration of the loop (about 30 cases). In each case, data points are gathered, formatted to a spreadsheet and written to a file, along with some occasional header strings to describe the data. This works fine, as I can simply write the data to file as soon as I get it.
At some point in the loop, I’m gathering from two sources (rpm data for two fans) over several iterations that is to be written to two separate but similar formatted tables in the same output file. Since I’m writing two tables to one file simultaneously, I can no longer write on-the-fly in a linear fashion; I’d need to store all the information until I complete the iterations, then format the header & raw data to spreadsheet and write to file in two chunks – at least, this is what I believe is the way to go, but I’m all ears if there’s another way.
In order to buffer the data, I could use a shift register, but this requires me to wire an array across my loop for all loops, whether I’ll be using it or not. I’ve also considered initializing an array at the case I’ll need to start buffering, then writing to a local variable of that array, but in fiddling with this approach, I don’t see how to specify what index to which I’m storing the data point.
So I’m looking for advice on whether (1) there’s another way to accomplish my goal and/or (2) how to execute the initialize array and local variable approach.
Below is a picture of what I want this portion of the spreadsheet to look like. Also included is a much abbreviated mock-up of my program for a case where I’m writing on the fly for a single table or column of information and a case where I’m setting up the write to local variable approach.

I was able to write a script based on all the examples in your blogs, but now I'm stuck:
I have a text file, which has Server Name, IP Address, Comments
ABCserver1, 1.1.1.1, remote web server
DEFserver2, 2.2.2.2, remote app server
XYZserver3, 3.3.3.3, remote api server
I have a excel file which has Server Name, IP Address, Protocol, Port. Server Name, and IP Addreess can repeat itself more than once in entire spreadsheet at any location:
Server1, x.x.x.x, TCP, 80
Server2, x.x.x.x, TCP, 80
Server3, x.x.x.x, TCP, 80
My script search for the excel spreadsheet for a array that I have defined [Server1,Server2,Server3,...], once the first value matches in spreadsheet it replaces all values of Server1 with first value in text file i.e: ABCServer1 so my new excel sheet looks
this:
ABCserver1, x.x.x.x, TCP, 80
DEFserver2, x.x.x.x, TCP, 80
XYZserver3, x.x.x.x, TCP, 80
What I also want is, when I replaces the "Server1" value in spreadsheet, it will also replace the IP Address in next column. This is where I'm stuck I can replace the value of Server Name, but I can't replace the IP address for text file. Remember
"Server1" can be found at any place in spreadsheet but it will always have IP address column next to it.
So this is what script will do if runs correctly:
1) Read text file:
ABCserver1, 1.1.1.1, remote web server
DEFserver2, 2.2.2.2, remote app server

Hey, thanks for helping me out. I checked online and I had to call Cells this way:
$Workbook.Worksheets.Item(1).Cells.item($cell.Row,$cell.Column+1)=$test[$i].replace
one problem I'm having is if the $server value repeats itself in excel sheet again it doesn't replace all values for lets see server 1:
so thats how my excel sheet is:

80
when I run the script thats how results looks:
server1

It skipped the line one on excel and changed value in line 4. As I mentioned above this can repeat $server can repeat itself anywhere in spreadsheet in multiple columns.
What can we do so it will replace all server name and IP address?

NVL and replace date when date field is null from table

I am trying to replace a field with a date default when it is null and it is not working
I was wondering if someone could give me a clue to what I am doing wrong
Here is the part of the select statement:
NVL (o.mass_production_date__c, TO_DATE ('1900-01-01', 'yyyy-mm-dd')),
It is not replacing a NULL value in o.mass_production_date__c if it is returning null
o.mass_production_date__c is a DATE format field

Can you post the actual query and screen cature show it's not working.
Most likely is because your data is not NULL but some empty string.
The function should work just fine like following,
TEST@rman> create table t1 (val date) ;

How to transfer data between spreadsheets without using Business Objects?

Hello, every time I try and log onto the business objects platform I keep getting "this system can be contacted but there is no central management server running at port 6400". All I need to do is pass variables between spreadsheets. Both files are located in the same folder. Below are the links ive tried but have been unsuccessful to pass data.
(This link I used the swf loader component child and flash variables task Daya posted on Feb 15. However nothing loaded. The link wasnt a link i could display is in a browser. So i kept getting 0% when in preview mode.

Next I tried the following link. I did everything word for word and was able to display both files on the html page, but no link or connection between them existed. I would select a state and noting happened to the other swf files chart. Does this need to be in the Business Objects platform?

Lastly , I used the link below. I followed everything and was able to get interaction from the parent to child however with only the files that were available on this thread. My URL is able to display in a browser. My URL is

SWF Loader shows 100% instead of Dashboard.

It looks like you have more than one problems so it might be good to separate them out.
Issue 1 - Logging on to BusinessObjects
You say that when you try log on to the BO Platform you get the error message there is no central management server running on port 6400. I'm assuming you are trying to do this from the Dashboard designer.
Does it work when you try to log on from the web browser?
Make sure that you enter the correct system name in the system field when trying to log on from Designer. If you are unsure, either check what system name is used when you log on from your browser or check with your BO administrator.
Issue 2 - Passing values to a child dashboard
If you try to preview the dashboard in the designer, remember that the swf loader doesn't work in preview mode, so whatever you are trying to display won't be visible.
First of all you need to have 2 separate flash files that works independently of each other. The one that you are planning to use as a child flash, make sure that you create the flash variables so you can pass variables to it and use them to filter your data if that is your requirement. But hold off on that for now.
When you have 2 working flash files, save them both to the BI Launch Pad (or InfoView if you are on 3.1) and make sure they both work there. Then get the opendocument url for the child dashboard and try to open it in your browser directly using this url. If that works, use the same url in the swf viewer in the parent dashboard, save the parent dashboard back to BI Launch Pad and open it. It should now work.
Let me know if you have any problems with these steps.
