Replacing HTML text :  English to foreign language

Hi Guys
What is the easiest way to find and replace text on the website?  I need some english words and dates translated to a foreign language that is not listed in the culture.. ??

Hello,
Mukul described the work flow for translating Captions and Closed Captions, but I do not know if that is sufficient for you? Could you explain what your course precisely is about: do you have captures and if yes do you have to capture the app in a different language? Do you have buttons in your course, Quizzes, assessments etc? Using master slides and object styles could help your to make the work flow easier. Was planning to blog about some tips for localisation but up till now did not find time. I have created several courses that I had to translate in 2 other languages.

  • How can i set predictive text to a foreign language

    I'm new to apple and iPhones. I've got everything setup in English but I frequently want to send text and/or email messages in French. When I do this predictive text jumps in and changes things to what it thinks I want in English. e.g. if I type tous it predicts I want toys and inserts it accordingly. How can I set predictive text to a foreign language.
    (p.s. my wife's iPad works fine as it has a button to press for alternative language but I don't see anything similar for iPhone)

    Add the French keyboard.

  • Reading a text file with foreign language characters

    I'm trying to convert foreign language characters to English looking characters.  I have code that works, but only if I hard code the string with foreign language characters and pass it to the function. I cannot figure out how to get my program to read
    in the foreign characters from my file, they come in as garbage.
    Since the function works when I pass a hard coded string to it, I'm pretty sure the problem is the way I have the Streamreader set up, it's just not reading the characters correctly...
    Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
    Dim FileRdr As StreamReader = New StreamReader "m:\test\charReplace.txt", System.Text.Encoding.UTF7)
    Dim ReplaceWrtr As StreamWriter ReplaceWrtr = System.IO.File.CreateText("M:\test\CharReplaceOut.txt")
    Do While FileRdr.Peek() >= 0
    Dim currentRec As String = FileRdr.ReadLine
    removeAccent(currentRec)
    ReplaceWrtr.WriteLine(currentRec)
    Loop
    ReplaceWrtr.Close()
    End Sub
    'Replace foreign language characters with English characters
    Function removeAccent(ByVal myString As String)
    Dim A As String = "--"
    Dim B As String = "--"
    Const AccChars As String = "ŠŽšžŸÀÁÂÃÄÅÇÈÉÊËÌÍÎÏÐÑÒÓÔÕÖÙÚÛÜÝàáâãäåçèéêëìíîïðñòóôõöùúûüýÿ"
    Const RegChars As String = "SZszYAAAAAACEEEEIIIIDNOOOOOUUUUYaaaaaaceeeeiiiidnooooouuuuyy"
    For i As Integer = 1 To Len(AccChars)
    A = Mid(AccChars, i, 1)
    B = Mid(RegChars, i, 1)
    myString = Replace(myString, A, B)
    Next
    removeAccent = myString
    End Function
    I know that removing the accent changes the meaning of the word, but this is what the user wants so it's what I need to do.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!! :)
    Thanks!

    Finally got it to work.  I had to remove the first 5 characters from the replacement string (ŠŽšžŸ), couldn't find encoding that would handle these, and to be honest, I didn't really need them.  The important ones are still there, was probably
    just overkill on my part.
    UTF7 worked for the rest...

  • Captivate 5 English-to-Foreign-Language Font Errors

    I am working with a large client who has experienced translation errors in Captivate 4 transfers to Captivate 5. The font they've used didn't translate into Chinese, and when the course was updating to Cap 5, everything basically broke.
    My inquiry is about which Captivate fonts can translate into the top 15 foreign languages most widely used in BOTH Captivate 4 and Cap 5? Has anyone done any research into this area? Does anyone knows which fonts DO and DON'T translate fully given all the necessary symbols and characters in both versions?
    Thanks for your help!
    Steve

    Hi Steve,
    Welcome to captivate forum.
    I did not get the scenario exactly.
    Are you facing the issues with the text caption font, when captivate 4 project created in english version tried to open in captivate 5 chinese version?
    Is it with the font type or caption text?

    Vikranth.

  • Master's w/black text box and foreign language

    How do I edit the text box in a master, its black, i want something like a grey background.  Why is the default text a foreign language...  Is there a way to change the border or page colors.  Its currently white, can I do something like grey

    Are you trying to create a photobook?
    The backgrounds of the text fields are defined by the theme. You have to find a theme with a color you like. You can only switch between the default color and transparent. If I want a different background I add a picture with constant color and add a textfield with transparent background  on top.
    The foreign language is a kind of latin. It is this way to help you to easily recognize that you need to enter your own text instead of the default text.
    What you can change in a theme, widely depends on the theme you selected. To modify the elements, click "Edit Layout".
    Then click the "fan"-button to select a background.
    If you want more control over the themes, you need to manually edit the theme files in the Library.

  • How can a structured frame be used for translating books to foreign languages?

    I keep reading about how a structured approach can improve the translation process (from english to foreign languages), however, i can't seem to find specifics about a particular method or tutorials about how to go about it (specifically). My question is, how (specifically) can structured framemaker be used for translation from english to foreign languages?  Links to tutorials on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    @Ian Proudfood
    A well organized XML based project will definitely save translation costs. There are many advantages to the XML approach to translation management including:
    Almost zero DTP rework costs - make the EDD/Template do all of the work!
    Translation is application version independent - no need to wait for the Translation Memory/CMS system vendor to support the latest version of FrameMaker.
    »... a well organized XML based project will definitively save translation costs.« – I have read sentences like this from a lot of consultants. And I have consulted/supported a lot of customers after those consultants left the stage. I always hear more or less the same from all of those clients. No question, I hear a lot of arguments for working with XML in tech doc, most of the arguments you mention included. Most of the tech writers are happy with the new structured FrameMaker and enjoy writing. And, cross your heart: Finally there's no alternative to XML in the long term if you take your tech writer job seriously. No question – working with pure XML in a professional information architecture in a structured, guiding editing environment like FrameMaker is cool, fun, faster and produces more open, more accessible, more reusable, more reliable, more consistent, in a nutshell: more valuable data.
    But what I have never ever heard, and I'm talking about several hundred companies, is: We save more money on translation now. You might imagine that this is surprising me since many years. This is why I always ask: Did you save any costs in your translation projects? Surprisingly the answer is always: No. Actually some – no, wait: many – tell me, that their translation agency even charges more now, because they have a lot of new costs:
    Costs, to customize their translation memory system to the clients custom xml,
    costs to follow badly or not documented changes in the client's xml structure (DTD/Schema changes) in the TMS,
    costs because of more engineering work like
    valididating xml in advance,
    fixing invalid xml exports,
    fixing invalid translations due to – sometimes massively – increased amount of tag errors because of tagging differences of "old" (legacy mif) and "new" (xml) tags,
    dealing with just too big XML files that need to be carefully split, so that the TMS has a chance to read it, or alternatively:
    "glue" the ten-thousand xml "snippets" to more handy chunks,
    project managers and translators that need to do additional checks, validations, verifyings - and often not knowing what to do with those cryptic error messages, meaning additional support costs
    Of course, many if no all of these and many other problems I did not mention here can be solved. And many are not exactly system immanent problems but communication problems (like introducing or renaming elements/attributes but not documenting this and not communicating this to the translation service provider) or would apply to any system change (e.g. also when switching from Word to Frame). However, I do not know of any single translation company on this planet (and I know virtually thousands of them from countries all over the world) that reduced the price per word for just a single pence, just because the client switched over from Word/Quark/FrameMaker/InDesign/Whatever to XML.
    Just ask your translation service provider: Will you charge me less per word if I send you XML instead of MIF? I would really be surprised to hear a "yes". And frankly, if you have ever compared a professional FrameMaker document with the same document in xml format in a professional system like Trados: There is actually no difference that would justify any price difference. The text is the same, the amount of words identical, the number of tags is identical, it even looks identical in the translation system (I can post screenshots if you like). From the translation perspective there is no single reason why a translator should charge a single pence less.
    So, it's a modern myth, that switching to xml reduces translation costs. That might be true, if you come from a really medieval documentation szenario with MS Word or the like, with manual formatting without any styles and so on (I see tech docs every day where even the TOC is typed in manually!!!) and swith from there to a modern structured xml authoring in combination with other supporting tools like authoring memory / authoring assistance, controlled language, translation memory and terminology managent and control, snippet based content management and so on. That will increase the consistency and quality of your data, which will reduce translation costs in the long term. But the truth is: This has nothing to do with XML per se, but with professional writing and professional management.
    So, what's left in the money saving story? No more DTP in the target languages? I always hear, that with XML and FrameMaker you do not have to "format" the translated document. The truth is: If you have a professionally formatted (unstructured) document, you don't have to take care of it, too. Modern tools like Trados keep 100% of the formatting 100% correct in the translated document. If the underlying template is intelligent enough to take account of text amount changes due to longer translations, and if you don't have too many local formatting overrides, the DTP is actually zero and can be reduced to a few mintes/hours for "flying" of the document to check out for unexpeted problems wich can occure in both structured and unstructured documents.
    Just to give some numbers on this: We are processing every day technical documentations for a quite big company. A typical documentation from them is about 250 pages in unstructured FrameMaker 9 (source language is English). Until now they were resistent to all my XML pushing. The Documentation is based on a straight, simple template (with our help "reduced to the max") and there are no formatting overrides (a script automatically checks this). The post translation Quality Assurance effort is - depending on the target language - usually something between 1 to 4 hours – that's a few seconds per page for the languages where already a lot of past Quality Assurance Steps went back into the Translation Memories and up to a minute per page for more "problematic" languages).
    So, again: XML will not save you a single pence on translations. But it might help you to produce more open, more accessible, more reusable, more reliable, more consistent, in a nutshell: more valuable data. But if you already have properly set up (ustructured) FrameMaker Documents and already work with a professional translation memory system, you will be quite disappointed to learn, that the impressive money saving promises you recently saw on that great PowerPoint slides melt down to a few bucks over a couple of years.
    Kind regards,
    Stefan Gentz

  • Why can't Preview search in a foreign language?

    I have a long .pdf document in Russian but find, as in the past, that words placed in Preview's search bar always get no hits.
    If Preview can display a text in a foreign language, why can't it search for words in that language?

    Try Adobe Reader instead of Preview.
    The basic problem is that the pdf format is not reliable for searching, and sometimes even copy/pasting non-Latin text.  Depending on how it is produced, the internal representation of the text can easily become useless garbage.

  • Text messaging in other languages

    Seems like 3G does not support text messaging in Korean. Messages sent or received in Korean appears as blank or question marks. Is there going to be a firmware update in the future that will allow text messaging in foreign languages?

    Well, it's a bit complicated, so please bear with me here!
    1. An American in the Seattle area whose Window$ PC just got upgraded so that Chinese will display on her computer - not that she can read it - got the Chinese characters from my iPhone, but the European accented letters (é, ê, è, ü etc.) as well as... quotation marks showed up as blank boxes in her reply when I read it on my iPhone. But when I read her reply in *Apple Mail*, each of those showed up as a box with a little cauldron(?) in it.
    2. A French Window$ PC / Outlook user in Paris got the same blank boxes when I read his reply on my iPhone, but when read in Entourage on my Mac, they also came through with those little cauldron(?) boxes.
    3. A (traditional) Chinese Window$ PC / Outlook Express user in Taiwan got all the foreign accented characters, quotation marks and the Chinese characters, whether I read his reply on my iPhone, in Apple Mail or in Entourage, even though the é went through as if borrowed from a different font.
    Any ideas???

  • Replacing form and dialog text to foreign language

    Hi
    I'm trying to translate some english text to foreign language, but I just cant get it to work in webforms and popup dialog boxes.  It works fine with text that I have typed on the page, but the system-generated text just stay's unchanged
    please help!      This is the javascript that works fine with all text except system-generated test:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    checkLoad();
    function checkLoad(){
    if (document.readyState === "complete") {
    document.body.innerHTML = document.body.innerHTML.replace(/Not set/g, "Ikki &aacute;sett");
    } else {
    setTimeout('checkLoad();', 1500)
    </script>
    Would like the text "Not set" in event bookings (when capacity is not defined) to say "Ikki ásett"  ... but it just does'nt work ..    And dialog pop-ups like "Please enter ..."  to be translated to  "Vinarliga útfyll"

    what do you mean by convert? if you really mean translate then no. there are no good tools in existence anywhere for computer translation from one language into another. that's very hard. there are some online tools like this one http://translate.google.com/# but they do poor job of actual translation if you need to translate actual text and not single words as anybody who used them can testify.

    Under System Preferences, Hardware, CD i DVD...  The menu text and dropdown choices are in a foreign Language.  I have my normal Language set to English.  What gives?

    Thanks for the reply. I only have English - Primary but I guess I could add Finland and then delete it...
    Okay, tried that, lots of variations including deleting all other languages and only using Finnish, and then using only British English etc - when guest is in Finnish the whole lot becomes Finnish/Suomi (see attached photos to compare with the ones above) - then when you delete Finnish and go back to English, everything is Englisg apart from 'Vierastilin käyttäjä' as above.
    Any other ideas where it stores that info - is there a dodgy preference file somewhere which needs zapping?

    First please remember this is a public forum.  If you are going to respond to the thread via e-mail please remove your signature prior to responding.
    To resolve your difficulties you will need to go to the Language & Text preference pane.  Once there click on Edit List and remove all languages besides English.  You will then likely need to remove and reinstall the trial as the language setting I believe is set during the installation process.

  • Webpages often show foreign language even after English made preference. How do I fix that?

    When I go to websites, the text is in either a foreign language or wingdings. I never know when this will happen. Web sites that have never done this before are now doing it. I have to close Firefox and use Internet Explorer which I don't like. I have gone to options and made English (US) my preference, restarted the computer, but no change. This happens on websites I use often. Can someone tell me how to fix this? Thank you.

    This issue can be caused by an old bitmap version of the Helvetica or Geneva font or (bitmap) fonts that Firefox can't display in that size.<br />
    Firefox can't display some old bitmap fonts in a larger size and displays gibberish instead.<br />
    You can test that by zooming out (View > Zoom > Zoom Out, Ctrl -) to make the text smaller.<br />
    <br />
    Uninstall (remove) all variants of that not working font to make Firefox use another font or see if you can find a True type version that doesn't show the problem.<br />
    There have also been fonts with a Chinese name reported that identify themselves as Helvetica, so check that as well.<br />

  • Foreign languages on english-developed web-services

    Hello all,
    Hello we running SAP Web AS 620 via SAP Enterprise SR-1 extension set 110.
    We are in the process of importing the French language and supplementing it with English to our production client.  What concerns come to mind around ensuring that our current web services are offered in both English and our new foreign language, French?  We use a web services CPIC ID to call a lot of our SAP function modules from the web.  If we pass the "FR" variable for the language field in the CPIC logon parameters, will results be returned in the foreign language?  Any other thoughts?
    I couldn't find very much documentation at SAP on this subject.

    (1) My iBooks Author help resources are in a foreign language. How do I change it to English? (2) Is there an iBooks Author pdf manual I can download?

    There is no PDF available. I sent a link  to a page full of links and info not much different from the help files.
    There are many Free books in the iBooks store which will take you through the basics of iBA.
    I  like "Create your first Interactive book using iBooks Author"   its created by iBook-Widgets.com - who also  supply widgets at a price.. but the book is very free and very good.. search the iBooks store for their title.
    You cannot use iBA on an iPad, however, I also use the iPad app --  "Book Creater"   ( redjumper.net ) its very low priced around $3 or so. The people who  create it are helpful and friendly. You can distribut your books to friends and family  using  Dropbox or other cloud storage. If you want to creaet an ePub file and then upload to the iBooks store, its not difficult.  You create the book on your iPad. It is no where near as good as iBA for functionality.. but it spossible to  make really good eBooks.
    I think Applecare shoud come into effect with the language problems if it can be  found to be a glitch on the computer.  Applecare is product based and does not apply to software.
    Take it stage by stage,   visit your Apple store and   ask if they can solve the help files in langauges first, then  react to the answer, it could be they can solve the issue which leave you a clear path with iBA.
    Also you can  gather more indormation about how to use it with the help files.
    Try the info I have  included and   see how it develpops... any problems get back here and we can look for alternatives.
    try this... https://itunes.apple.com/app/id661166101?mt=8&&referrer=click%3Da63089e4-e3d4-49 e9-896a-58e0cfd50acf
    its the free version... if you like upgrade later.
    Happy New Year... hope its a good one....
