Report Painter Naming Conventions

I am writing a lot of reports for the transfer from Financial Accounting to Profit Center Accounting - I am re-orienting old reports to PCA. There are a lot of custom reports that have top be re-written and I was going to name them all starting with and "X" to distinguish them and now I am told that this a development nightmare because "Z" and "Y" are SAP native and understood?
Is there a problem with the "X"?
Thanks

Hi,
You should use Y or Z... 'X' is reserved letter for SAP and, indeed, problems are anticipated. Just to empasize: this statement stands for transactions. Reprots themselves, made in Report Painter, could have any name you'd like to give as long as it does not begin with numerical.

• HR report category naming conventions..

Hi All,
As few of you suggested me in my last post, I decided to assign new HR report category to my report for LDB PNP. Now it does not let me change the selection fields of in-built categories which is quite obvious. Now when i create a new one it gives me the error message of choose the key from allowed namespace?
does anyone know if there is special naming conventions for HR report categories??
i tried Z but does give me the same error..
stuck up..
plz help..
Reena..

Hi Reena,
I checked ur error. For me also it is giving the same error. I analysed & found as below.
In se38->RDDKOR54 check this report & give table name as T599C.
This will give you the customer name space for this table.
So you can give the name starting with only spscified letters in this report.
So use 0test or anything 0* to 7* it will work.
All the Best!
Thanks,
Sarika.

• Storage Location Naming Convention without WM!

Dear all
We are facing serious problem in our Storage Location for Raw Material.
We have 4 types of Raw Material Seating (S), Panel (P), Metal (M), Wood (W). And they are all stored under Storage Location: RWSL.
Requirement:
Although we have visual guideline as to which industrial rack will store the type of Material, it is insufficient. We need a more refined storage location down to which BIN of the rack we will put the Raw Material.
Due to limited time and resource, we cannot have WM implemented right now. Thus, we have come out with 2 alternative to overcome this problem:
Alternative 01:
We will use the Fixed Bin field in Storage Data 02 by putting the Bin number assigned to each Rack.
E.g. For Seating material code:SEAT01, we will maintain the Fixed Bin as R12A01/A02, it means this Seating material SEAT01 will be stored at Rack 12, fixed bin A01 or A02.
Question to Alternative 01: Will it cause problem in GR, GR, Transfer Posting and Stock Count?
Alternative 02:
Instead of going into details to put Fixed Bin field in Storage Data 2, we will abandan the existing Storage Location RMSL by introducing new format for Storage Location
Here is the example of Alternative 02:
For raw materials, we will use 4 digits location numbers, consistent with other Storage locations, the 4 digits storage location will start with u201CR _ _ _u201D to represent each location
And,
R _ _ _ is:
R = Raw materials
2nd digit = Division (S= Seating, P =Panel, W=Wood, M=Metal and W=Wood)
3rd digit = Rack Number (A, B, C, Du2026 and etc.)
4th digit = Rack Zone - each rack will broken down into zone, each rack can possibility have 2 to 3 zone. 1 Zone can be 1 colume of the Rack
An example of a possible location and its meaning will be
RSA1 = Raw materials warehouse, Seating division, Rack A, Zone 1
RPB3 = Raw materials warehouse, Panel Division, Rack B, Zone 3
The challenge of this is that instead of having 1 Raw Material Storage Location like RMSL, we will have a lot more storage locations each for division of Raw material due to the Rack Number we have as well as the Rack Zone.
Question to Alternative 02:
If we use this alternative, will it impact our future implementation of WM? From design wise, is it feasible?
Please advise what is the best approach and the feasible design on it.
Many thanks in advance.
Edited by: Daimos on May 13, 2009 10:15 AM

Hi, here is the Pro and Co of both approaches:
Method 01: Use existing SLOC and add the Storage Bin info
e.g. SLOC: STM1
Storage Bin: RSC3, where RS = Rack Seating, C3 = column 3
Pro 01:
It will cause less effort as we only need to use LSMW for material master to add in the Storage Bin data for all material of SCM.
Pro 02:
I have tested out that in TCode MIGO, apart from SLOC, the pertaining Storage Bin data also appear. Based on my discuss with Xian Chen, sometimes they use MB1C(GR), MB1A(GI) rather than MIGO due to speed issue, I will need to check the field status if can have Storage Bin field APPEAR, if can, it will solve the problem
Con 01:
The Storage Bin information will only appear in MMBE (Stock Overview) but will not appear in the standard SAP Inventory Report (e.g. MB52 Warehouse Stock). To view it from SAP Inventory Report, we may need to customize the standard report to show the new field Storage Bin. It needs Abap effort.
Con 02:
We must have a very good naming convention for Storage Bin. And again, in the above example, if a material is put in SLOC STM1 at Storage Bin RA A1 or C4, it will set a very rigid rule in the future if we need to change it, as I fear that one the Storage Bin has been used up. It will not allow us to change (need to do testing to find out)
Con 03:
Do we have the time to define all the Storage Bin for each SLOC? Operation wise, the store personnel needs to design it
Method 02: Use the new SLOC
Pro 01:
RSA1 = Raw materials warehouse, Seating division, Rack A, Zone 1. More organized. Easy to tell the material is at which Rack and which Zone of the Rack.
Assumption:
01. we must not have too many rack for one Seating division and also not too many Zone for each
Division, else it will cause confusion
02. 1 material should stick to 1 Rack 1 zone as much as possible, else later the PP consultant will
have hard to to perform GI due to too many SLOC assigned to a material.
Pro 02:
In report wise, we are able to show the SLOC in inventory report. No need to enhance the existing inventory report as we do not use Storage Bin.
Con 01:
If there are too many SLOC creation due to it. It may cause problem for PP perform GI as too many selection available for a material. This can be avoided if stick to the General Rule that one material is tied with one SLOC.

• FSV item(GL) not appearing in drilldown mode of report painter

Hi,
Actually i have added GL account of Cash on hand in FSV of the client and have assigned the same in the balance sheet report in report painter.
However i am not able to see the line items of the Cash on hand GL which i have assigned in the report painter.
Also the report painter is picking up the values from the Cash on hand GL but is not showing me the line items of that particular GL.
What can be the reason?
Parin

Hi,
One question.... Is this a Select List or a Popup LOV?
The settings to check are:
Source Used: Always,....
Source Type: Database Column
Source value or expression: The field name the table
The List of Values section should also contain valid settings - You should either have a Named LOV selected or specified a select statement in the List of values definition setting.
You should also check to see if there is any Default value or a Post Calculation Computation that may be clearing the field.

• Inconsistent naming conventions for Adobe Reader in software scan

I just want to see if anyone knows why Adobe's free pdf Reader appears both as "Adobe Reader" AND "Adobe Acrobat Reader". I manage software licenses for an organization of 400+, and it's difficult to know if, for instance Adobe Acrobat - Reader 6.0.2 Update - 6.0.2, should or should not be counted as a purchased license without actually visiting each workstation to verify. I've spoken with our network operations personnel and they confirmed that it is not manually entered by our personnel, but that it is something in the software. ??
Furthermore, why are the naming conventions not consistent even among those that can be identified easily? The list below is what I see when I run a report for all Adobe software on our network.
Adobe Acrobat - Reader 6.0.2 Update - 6.0.2
Adobe Acrobat 4.0 - 4.0
Adobe Acrobat 5 -- SC Install

Junlie et al,
Starting with Acrobat 9 (announced on 6/2/08), Adobe will support the new ISO/IEC 19770-2 standard for universal software tagging. The new standard will allow customers to correctly identify the name, version, type and licensing status of Adobe software (starting with the Acrobat 9 family and later on as new versions of the products are introduced later this and next year).
I DO understand your frustration with the in consistencies in the naming of our software, but the problem of software discovery goes well beyond our lack of discipline. This is one of the many reasons why Adobe invested time and effort with the industry group defining the new open standard, and in software asset management in general.
More information about tagging standard can be found here: http://www.agnitioadvisors.com/info/content/view/44/1/

• No error generated if batch process load file uses wrong naming convention

Another interesting one...
When using the batch processing functionality of FDM, which can be executed by either:
- FDM Workbench (manually)
- Hyperion FDM Task Manager (scheduled)
- upsShell.exe (scheduled and executed from a batch script)
..., one has to name the data file (to be loaded) using a specific file naming convention (i.e. "A~LOCATION~CATEGORY~PERIOD~RA.csv" format, for example). However, if one does not name the file correctly and then tries to process the file using batch processing functionality using any of the above three methods, FDM happily moves the file out of the OpenBatch folder and into a new folder, but the file is not loaded as it does not know where to map it to (as expected). However, there are no errors in Outbox\Logs\<username>.err to inform the user, so one is non the wiser that anything has gone wrong!
When using FDM Workbench, an error is displayed on the screen (POV - "Batch Completed With Errors, ( 1 ) Files Contained Errors"), but this is the only indication of any error. And normally, one would be scheduling the load using upsShell.exe or Hyperion FDM Task Manager anyway...
Has anyone else noticed this, or am I doing something wrong here? :-)

Yes, as per my original post the only feedback on any POV errors appears to be when using the FDM Workbench Batch Processing GUI.
Regarding the "Batch Process Report in FDM" you mentioned, are you referring to Analysis | Timeline accessible via FDM web client? Unfortunately this does not appear to provide much in the way of detail or errors, only general events that occurred. I cannot locate any batch process report, other than the log output I defined when calling upsShell.exe. However, this contains no POV errors...

• Checking naming convention of internal tables in code inspector

Can anyone please explain how in the code inspector can I check names of internal tables (like it_) that I use in a report program ? I know that I can specify it_ in Programming Convention -> Naming Convention->Program Global -> Data but this entry is not specific to internal tables as it also applies to variables and work areas. Apart from this is there any entry I can maintain in the Extended Naming Conventions for Programs(introduced in ECC 6.0)? Kindly reply at the earliest.

• Reporting Agent filename convention and result directory

Hi Experts,
We are using BW 3.1 so the questions below are refering to this version of BW.
I have to run a query on a monthly basis which has many results depending on a cost center input.
The problem is that I need to make a standard filename convention for the query results such as xxxxxx_yyyymm.html where xxxxxx is the actual cost center value, yyyy is the actual year and mm is the actual month.
Is it possible to set this kind of naming convention in the Reporting Agent?
Furthermore, I have to move the results into a standard directory of the Business Explorer Analyzer, namely EAIFILES/.....
Can I redirect the results into the specified folder?
Thanks and Regards,
Dezso

Dear Dezso,
unfortunately this is not possible in Standard,
you can download the data per download scheduler and send it to you needed location.
In Transaction RSRAPS you can see the created files, it is not possible to change the file name.
We have a solution to read the index file and rename the files to customized file names like yours, its possible but its alot of work.
Regards Marcus

• Naming convention in template css file

Is there a specific reason for having the theme "name" hardcoded in many css definitions ?
For example consider the css for the rows in a report:
In the css files for each theme it is defined in a different way:
Theme1: td.t1data
Theme2: td.t2data
Theme3: td.t3data
...Overriding these values and manipulating the styles using Javascript gets a bit cumbersome if it should work across themes.
Are there any naming conflicts or is it just for historic reasons that don't apply anymore in the 2.0 release?
In other words, would it be safe to use just td.data in new templates or will I run into problems doing this?
Thanks,
~Dietmar.

Hi Carl,
thanks for the clarification. I had figured that you had a good reason to do so.
It's a tradeoff, either approach has pros and cons.
Most likely we will stick with that type of naming convention, but we'll look into it again.I would like to throw in an idea. You can add multiple css classes to an html tag, e.g.
<td class="t12data data">The css for the class data would be empty.
This way we could have both, different class names for different themes, but also having the elements "tagged" the same way so that the javascript should work.
Haven't thought it out, it just came to my mind. You might consider it.
And yes using td.data should be just fineI guess I will go down that route.
I will create only a single theme and then use multiple css style sheets to modify the look and feel.
This way I can switch the theme on the fly by switching style sheets only.
Javascript modifications will work since the css class names are the same.
All customized region templates will only have to be created once (and not for all themes).
Thanks and a Happy New Year,
~Dietmar.

• SAP Naming Conventions for DB Data Files

Hi Everyone!
We are about to install a SAP ECC 6.0 SR3 ABAP on Windows Server 2008 (R2) & SQL Server 2008 SP1 and we want to name the DB data files as follows:
<sid>DB_Data_001.MDF/NDF
Do you see any problem with this or think this could lead to a problem in the future?
We were unable to find a SAP note or SAP recommendation about this, we only found SAP Note 27428 but itu2019s for Oracle.
Thanks in advance!
Best Regards,
Nicolas

Hi Nicolas,
I thought about all corners where this could possibly lead to a problem (e.g. monitoring, DB13, ...) but couldn't think of a single report or transaction where this would cause problems.
To the database itself the names of the files do not matter at all and in the SAP transactions the datafiles are only read to display them in monitoring transactions like DB02 or RZ20. These transaction do not expect a certain naming convention so I don't see anything that would count against using different filenames.

• ABAP Naming Conventions

Hi All,
I'm looking for a document describing ALL basic ABAP Naming Conventions. For example, how to name data types such as tables, structures, predefined ABAP types, and so on. Furthermore, it would be desirable to know how the declaration changes in different contexts - report, form, function module, class, and so on.
Thank you.

Hi,
as I am working as a consultant for lots of companies in last 10 years, I know that there is no such document. Each company has it's own naming conventions and programming guides. The only thing that is common for all companies is: All customer defined stuff starts with a Z or a Y and in case the company registered it's own name space it starts with /<name space/. May be, somebody can send you these guides coming from whatever company.
regards
Siggi

• Meta Data Naming Conventions

Hi,
Can any one pls explain me on "Meta Data Naming Conventions".
Thanks in advance.

This is the approach you would use to create the labels for all your acocunts, custom members and entities, etc.. I would suggest using a convention that makes reporting and data loadinga s simple as possible.

• BPC Standard Naming Convention

Hi Gurus,
Could you please share BPC naming conventions standards?
I am looking for prefix for objects such as:
Environment
Model
Dimension
Team
Task Profile
Data Access Profile
Member Formulas
Logic Script
Business Rule
Controls
Input Screen
Report
Data Manager Package
Data Manager Package Link
Transformation File
Conversion File
Process Chain
Thanks.

As far as I know there are no naming conventions other than no special characters or spaces. NW is case sensitive, so you need to be careful there. In terms of prefixes, I'm not sure what you mean. Some of the technical objects in NW are in the CPMB namespace but you are not adding that namespace to anything
Here are some comments:
Environment - the description in the BPC admin client can, the technical name on the backend will be generated
Model - same as environment
Dimension - same as environment
Member Formulas - this is driven by member IDs
Input Screen - not sure what this is
Data Manager Package
Process Chain - the out of the box PCs are all in the CPMB namespace, the new ones just need to be copied in there but they wouldn't be created in BPC rather in BW
Hope this make sense,
Akos

• Naming conventions for data types

In my functional specs I have been given field names
Client Number
Record Type
Customer Name and so on
I need to create custom data types for all these and assign them to std values (vbak-kunnr, adrc-name1)
I am trying to determine what is the best naming convention to use for my custom data types
Would the convention be to use, new_kunnr, new_adrc_name1 or perhaps just ClientNumber, RecordType, CustomerName and so on

I think its best I include my scenario so people can better answer my question
My report has four different parts, each has a filler, record type, customer number which need to be initialized to certain values that are different
The four parts are Name/Address, Credit Order, Sub total and Total
Name/Address has Record type = A , customer number = vbak-kunnr
Credit Order has Record type = R, customer number = vbak-kunnr
SubTotal has Record type= space and customer number = 99
Total has Record type = S and customer number = 9999
So I have to create variables for these and am trying to figure out a proper naming convention
I could do RecordType_Name, RecordType_CreditOrder and so on but that does not seem the best way to me. Any ideas!
