Report Retrieval Times in BPCv7 SP3 using SQL 2008

General Information: We are a two server environment, one WEB and one SQL, using SQL 2008. We are using BPC v7 SP3. In our devlopment environment, we have selected a handful of reports to use as a benchmark against our production version of Outlooksoft version 4.
Problem: The benchmark reports are taking longer to retrieve in BPC v7 then they are in Outlooksoft version 4 SP9. We have stripped out the dimension formulas, unchecked the INAPP for each dimension property, reset the compatability level in SQL, and removed all data from the facttables in BPC version 7. The initial pull of the report seems to take almost 3 times as long in BPC v7 than in Outlooksoft version 4. Subsequent pulls, changing the date, take less than 15 seconds for the same report.
We are at a stand still trying to figure out why we are experiencing such lengthy retrieval times in the initial pull of a report in BPC version 7.
Additional Info: In our development environment of BPC v7, we currently have only 4 users set up to test. Our Outlooksoft version 4 has a total of 186 users. I don't know the maximium concurrent users we may have at one time.
Question: We are wondering if any other users are experiencing the same issue when they try and retrieve data from a report in BPC version 7? Please share your insight to this problem.

Hi Irene,
It is a big diference of design between 4.x and 7.x.
Into 4.x when you pull data into a report actually you are using PTS from client and you already have the connection and everything from client direct to OLAP server.
In 7.x all the request are going first to application server and the application server is the one taking the data from OLAP and after that data is sent to client.
So first time when you are doing refresh of report into application server it is necessary to create instances for all COM+ components necessary connection etc...and in that case the reports is taking longer.
When you are doing other refresh with the same reports or with other the time for refresh is much faster because already the COM+ instances were created and in this case the reports should be faster than v 4.x
So I suggest to try the follow test.
after login with BPC client just open first a small reports which you know is not taking too long.
After that open your big report. It should retrieve data faster than 4.x or almost the same time.
Also make sure you have all the settings done from Tunning Guide for BPC 5.x ( these settings can be applied also for 7.X)
to be sure that your 7.0 environment is working properly. This tunning guide can be found into bpx/sdn HTG section.
I hope this will help.

    Hi DMcGarveyt,
    This is an known issue in SSRS 2008 R2 SP3. For this issue, Microsoft has published an article addressing this issue. It is not planning to release a fix for this defect. But there's workarounds for this issue. Please refer to the link below:

  • Date parameter does not work in SharePoint 2010 report using SQL 2008 Server Reporting Service

    Here is the settings:
    SharePoint 2010 with SQL server 2008 reporting services configured
    When create a report for a SP list using SQL server report builder (3.0) the date parameter does not work.
    The data parameter is set as "date and time" type and field name equals the col name in the SP list
    When run the report, the whatever dates I select, the result is always the same, so the parameters do not take any effect.
    Is any step missing?
    Thanks for any advice !

    Hi ,
    How did you configure you "date and time" type parameter and field name equals the col name in the SP list?
    Have you tested if other type parameter worked?
    Have you tried typing the date format as 20140722 in your date parameter filed before run the report?

  • How to call a stored procedure on time basis with out using sql job and GOTO

    Hi,
       I wanted to call a stored proc, on time basis ,
    please tel me how it can be done with out using sql job , goto .
    1) That is, is there any timer aviable in sqlserver.
    q2) And which one is better GOTO or sql job.
    yours sincerley

    Raj, Check if my explanation helps you:
    Your job runs every 10 seconds.
    Lets say first time you are scheduling and running your job at 12:00:00 PM
    Now your proc will start executing.
    Say it got finished at 12:00:07.
    Now the next schedule time is 12:00:10 PM.
    The moment this time hits, the job will get invoked and start executing the proc.
    Lets say this time it finished at 12:00:22 PM (It took 2 extra seconds)
    This time the scheduled time is already gone (12:00:20 PM), thus it'll now run at the next schedule that is 12:00:30 PM.
    Thus if anytime your job takes more than 10 seconds to run, it'll just miss those particular schedules overlapping with execution time. Otherwise you are good to go.
    PS: A job is the best way to handle this, in your problem statement you don't need a job but that would be wrong. You have another way to do that, if you keep running your procedure all the time and the moment your timestamp hits a multiple of 10
    seconds you can run your logic and then returning to the timer. But this is extremely wrong for a system. Even if your requirement is extremely transactional and complex, I would not suggest this. If the job is taking more than 10seconds (which it might if
    your logics inside are complex), you should optimize your code and table architecture.
    Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but they refuse. They cling to the realm, or the gods, or love. Illusions. Only the ladder is real.
    The climb is all there is.

  • How to load time only no date using sql loader

    I want to load just time portion from the data, the data looks like this
    08/10/09 ,FZ10, AD2R, DFHMIRS , 14, 01:12:07.001230, 01:02:07.112354, TRANS PURGED / TIMED OUT ,
    control file:
    LOAD DATA
    APPEND
    INTO TABLE TRANS_ABENDS
    FIELDS TERMINATED ',' TRAILING NULLCOLS
         TRANS_DATE           DATE "MM/DD/YYYY",
         TRANS_ID          ,
         ABEND_CODE          ,
         ABEND_PGM           ,
         ABEND_COUNT           ,
         RESPONSE_TIME      "to_date(:RESPONSE_TIME,'dd/mm/yy HH:MI:SS.ffffff')",
         CPU_TIME          "to_date(:RESPONSE_TIME,'dd/mm/yy HH:MI:SS.ffffff')",
         ABEND_RESOLUTION     ,
         INSTANCE          CONSTANT 'EAST'
    I can load the time using the control file but it adds the first of the month as date in the column. I want to load only time value. Appreciate any help on this.

    I meant, how are these columns defined in the table that is being loaded?
    If these are defined as DATE, then as was pointed out Oracle will default the date portions if they are not provided in the formatted string.
    If these are defined as NUMBER (with some fractional portion), then you could use a combination of substr, multiplication and concatenation to derive the time as number in the form <seconds>.<fractional seconds>.
    You could also look into the data type INTERVAL DAY TO SECOND.
    SQL> create table trans_abends (
      2   trans_date date,
      3   trans_id char(4),
      4   abend_code char(4),
      5   abend_pgm char(8),
      6   abend_count number(4),
      7   response_time interval day (0) to second (6),
      8   cpu_time interval day (0) to second (6)
      9  )
    10  /
    Table created.
    SQL> insert into trans_abends values (sysdate, 'xxxx', 'xxxx', 'xxxxxxxx', 1, to_dsinterval('+0 01:12:07.001230'), to_dsinterval('+0 01:02:07.112354') )
      2  /
    1 row created.
    SQL> select response_time, cpu_time from trans_abends;
    RESPONSE_TIME
    CPU_TIME
    +0 01:12:07.001230
    +0 01:02:07.112354For the sql loader control file, try
    "to_dsinterval('+0 '||:RESPONSE_TIME)"
    not tested.

  • Get the Last Value of Status Field from SQL TABLE using SQL 2008

    I have a table with Fields such as
    UploadstartTime, UploadEndtime, STATUS From TBLA.
    The STATUS Field, has values =7 and 11 are failed and 12 is SUCCESS. I cannot do a max, since it will always show 12, I need to get the MAX(UPLOADENDTIME, and get STATUS For that record. How can I do that using 1 SQL Query?

  • SSIS Package developed in SQL Server 2008 R2 Using BIDS 2008 is not working in SQL Server 2012

    I am working in a Product based company.
    We have given a Pre-requisites to our customers like SQL Server version should be 2008 or later.
    I have developed and deployed my SSIS package in SQL Server 2008 R2 with BIDS 2008.
    I have used "Script Component" in my package.
    We will take only DTSX package file to the customer places and run using SQL Agent Job daily.
    Who are all(Customer Environments) using SQL 2008 or R2 my package is running fine.
    Who are all(Customer Environments) using SQL 2012, I am facing the below issue
    The component metadata for “Script Component, clsid {874F7595-FB5F-4OFF-9BAF-FBFF825OE3EF}” could not be upgraded to the newer version of the component. The PerformUpgrade method failed.
    Still the same package is running fine for some of the customers having SQL 2012.
    I am getting the above error only for few customers.
    Can someone please guide me how to proceed on this. Is there any solution to go without upgrading the package to SQL 2012. Because we need to maintain only one package for all customers

    Hi Katherine,
    I am just using the script component only for generating Identity column purpose. I will get the maximum count from the table and using this count value as Input (JurisCount in my below code) for script component and increment the counter for new records.
    Finally I am mapping the Script component output value (JurisKey in my below code) to Key column of the table. That's all I am doing with Script Component.
    Here is my Simple .net code
    /* Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services Script Component
    *  Write scripts using Microsoft Visual C# 2008.
    *  ScriptMain is the entry point class of the script.*/
    using System;
    using System.Data;
    using Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.Wrapper;
    using Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper;
    [Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.SSISScriptComponentEntryPointAttribute]
    public class ScriptMain : UserComponent
        public override void PreExecute()
            base.PreExecute();
              Add your code here for preprocessing or remove if not needed
        public override void PostExecute()
            base.PostExecute();
              Add your code here for postprocessing or remove if not needed
              You can set read/write variables here, for example:
              Variables.MyIntVar = 100
        int counter = 0;
        public override void Input0_ProcessInputRow(Input0Buffer Row)
            if (counter == 0)
                counter = Convert.ToInt32(Row.JurisCount);
            Row.JurisKey = counter;
            counter = counter + 1;

  • Cannot see new SQL 2008 R2 Express instance on Small Business Server 2011!

    Hi,
    As it is stated on the subject line, I'm having a problem after I did a new install of SQL 2008 R2 Express and put a new instance on SBS 2011.
    I'm developing a new program using SQL 2008 in C# and VB.Net. I have SQL 2008 R2 Express installed on my computer called "MSQL8R2EDATA" on my PC. Now I need to deploy it on SBS 2011 so I can do some testing on other workstations.
    I'm currently running Windows 7, 64 bit, and it's named STEVE-PC. The SBS 2011 is named SERVER1, and it's 64 bit as well.
    After installation on SERVER1 (SBS 2011), I then fired up SQL Server Configuration Manager and enabled Named Pipes, TCP/IP, and VIA.
    After I've completed the SQL Configuration on SERVER1, I went back on my PC (STEVE-PC) and I tried to use Management Studio to connect to the  new instance MSQL8R2EDATA on SBS 2011, only problem is, I only see the computer name, not the new instance
    I've installed.
    Back on SBS 2011 (SERVER1), I've verified that all the protocols are enabled, and the SQL Server Browser is automatically loaded and currently running, as well the MSQL8R2EDATA instance is automatically loaded and running, yet I still cannot see
    it from my PC (STEVE-PC). I even switched from dynamic ports to a static port of 64719 (that was what the MSQL8R2EDATA was listening on that port when it was dynamic), and then added new rules to the Windows Firewall for program of the SQLSERVR.EXE, and
    for UDP and TCP for port 64719 to "Allow All Connections" for Domain, Private, and Public; yet I still cannot connect SERVER1\MSQL8R2EDATA. I even disabled the firewall and then trying to connect once again to SBS 2001 and it still fails.
    In case you're wondering, I left it on port 64719 since there are other active SQL Servers on SBS 2011 (SharePoint, SBSMonitoring, and ACT7).
    Interestingly, when I run Management Studio on SBS 2011, I can see STEVE-PC\MSQL8R2EDATA and I'm able to log in and connect to it.
    So what's going on here?!? Why am I able to connect to STEVE-PC which is Windows 7 64 from SBS 2011 (SERVER1), but I cannot connect from my computer to that instance on SBS 2011??
    I really could use some big time help on this.
    EDIT: Sorry for the confusion, but on the Windows Firewall (WF.msc), I did add new rules for incoming connections on:
    Program incoming connections to SQLSERVR.EXE
    TCP Port 64719
    UDP Port 64719
    EDIT: To further assist, I have Management Studio installed on the SBS 2011, and I can locally log in and connect to the MSQL8R2DATA on SERVER1 with success. I even tried tcp:SERVER1\MSQL8R2DATA and again it is successful log-in and connection.
    Thanks in advance!
    Steve

    Hi,
    Thanks for the response, but I have a question:
    Installing SQL Express or SQL Server is not recommended on SBS
    2011 because it is a DC, however technically it will work.
    I'm a newbie when it comes to SBS 2011 and I'm taking a crash course on the subject. Can you explain to me what you mean by "DC"? Also, why
    isn't recommended to install a new instance on SBS 2011?
    As I also stated, I've added "New Rules" to the Windows Firewall to allow incoming connections on port 64719 for both TCP and UDP, and I also allowed incoming connections for SQLSERVR.EXE but no joy to connect to the SERVER1\MSQL8R2EDATA.
    And yes, I can log-in and connect locally on SERVER1 using Management Studio with success. I even used tcp:SERVER1\MSQL8R2EDATA with the same success. It's my workstation STEVE-PC that fails. If that fails, then the rest of the workstations are going to fail.
    Are you suggesting that I put the SQL Server 2008 Express on another workstation and just allow to to be
    accessed that way?

    We were using SQL 2008 Standard, but after upgrading to R2, following query is much slower (takes 5 seconds instead of less than 1 second), how is this possible?
    It is not uncommon to experience performance problems following an upgrade when there are issues with original query.  Non-sargable expressions like Olaf called out are often the culprit, as well as lack of useful indexes and statistics.
    The optimizer cannot glean accurate row count estimates or use indexes efficiently so the resultant plan may not be optimal for the task at hand.  It is only by happenstance that old plan performed better; it could just as well be the other way around,
    but again only by chance since the optimizer is guessing.
    You might also try using EXISTS instead of SELECT COUNT(*)...= 0:
    AND EXISTS(SELECT *
    FROM dbo.roostermutaties AS RM2
    WHERE P.ID_personen = ID_personen
    AND GR.ID_groepsroosters = ID_groepsroosters
    AND CONVERT(VARCHAR(8), begintijdafwezig, 108) = CONVERT(VARCHAR(8),
    CASE WHEN GR.ID_lokaties = 3 THEN COALESCE (RM.nieuweBegintijd,
    CASE WHEN GR.Tijdspan = 2 THEN R.begintijd2 ELSE R.begintijd END)
    ELSE COALESCE (RM.nieuweBegintijd, GR.begintijd) END, 108)
    AND CONVERT(VARCHAR(8), eindtijdafwezig, 108) = CONVERT(VARCHAR(8), CASE WHEN GR.ID_lokaties = 3 THEN COALESCE (RM.nieuweEindtijd,
    CASE WHEN GR.Tijdspan = 2 THEN R.eindtijd2 ELSE R.eindtijd END) ELSE COALESCE (RM.nieuweEindtijd, GR.eindtijd) END, 108))

  • Sql execute about 1s,but report run time 20s

    I execute the sql which is copied from webi query in database, it take less than 1s.
    There are 6 queries in report, so I assume the time used to retrieve data from DB is 6s.
    and the report responding time is about 20s(from the moment I click "refresh data").
      so there are 20-6=14s,including network transfer time,report server generate report time.
    Could anyone tell me what can I do to optimize the performance?  Normally the report
    responding time can reduce to how many seconds?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Tony Renjie

    Hi,
    please consider the following for optimizing the performance:
    1) Reduce the number of variables you are using. Let your DB server do as many calculations as possible.
    2) If you have a single universe please consider using a union of queries instead of 6 separate ones in the WeBi Query Panel (Use the "Add a combined query" instead of the "Add a new query button").
    3) Edit in the properties of your connection (Screen 3 of 4 in BO XI 3.0) and select "Keep the connection active for" in the "Connection pool mode" setting.
    Regards,
    Stratos
    PS: The connection type should not have any impact in the performance.

  • Retrieving records using SQL Date Queries

    Hello,
    I am using Lab Windows CVI 8.5 and also SQL TOolkit for my project. I am using DBMapColumnToChar function for mapping Date to the database. And for retrieving records I am using SQL Query as follows:
    SELECT * FROM DBTable WHERE DATE_TABLE BETWEEN '%s' AND '%s'",cCurrentDate,cCurrentDate
    I have given a drop down for selecting dates.
    When I execute the query I am not getting the selected date values an instead I am getting some records for which the dates aren't selected...
    Quick help needed for this..Thanks in advance

    Depending on the database, the date/time structure can be completely different from the structure in CVI.  CVI uses the Windows format for time(), that is the number of seconds since 1900.  The tm struct can break this apart into a date and time structure that is usable.
    I am using MS Access for the databases and SQL toolkit.  I finally ended up replace the date field with an INT field format, and then store the CVI time (gotten with time()) as an INT value.
    Easy then to get a search range, store it a tm struct and then convert with mktime() to a calendar time to search with.
    Hope this helps.  The date/time thing is a never ending struggle.

  • How to retrieve time data from infotypes 2001 and 2002 when we use PNPCE

    Hello Everyone,
       I am new in using PNPCE ldb.In the requirement i have to retrieve time data from infotypes 2001 and 2002 between the begda and endda.I tried using the macro RP-READ-ALL-TIME-ITY to retrieve data.But its not supporting.Can some body help me in doing this.
    THanks in Advance..
    Regards,
    Chinni.

    Hi
       Try the following code:
    REPORT  ZHRTM41.
    nodes peras.
    Tables: PERNR.
    Infotypes: 2001.
    start-of-selection.
    get peras.
    rp_read_all_time_ity pn-begda pn-endda.
    end-of-selection.
    loop at p2001.
    write:/ p2001-abwtg,p2001-stdaz.
    endloop.
        It worked for me when using PNPCE. let me know if you have any problem

  • SQL report region source to call a pl/sql function using DB link

    Hi - I have a pl/sql function fn_dbtype(id NUMBER) defined in database X. The pl/sql function executes couple DML statements and returns a string (a SELECT query). I am able to call this function using SQL Plus (Connected to Database X) as below and it works fine:
    declare
    vSQL VARCHAR2(100);
    begin
    vSQL := fn_dbtype(1);
    end;
    The DML operations completed fine and vSQL contains the "Select" query now.
    In APEX:
    I am trying to create a SQL report in APEX using SQL query(PL/SQL function returning a sql statement) option. I am trying to figure out what to put in the region source so that the output of the "Select" query is displayed in the report.
    Moreover APEX is hosted in a different database instance. So I would need to call this pl/sql function using a DB Link.
    Please let me know what I need to put in the region source to execute the pl/sql function which returns the "Select" query thereby displaying the query output in the report. Thanks.
