Report server hanging

Hi
Running Reports Server 9ias on win2000 box
Users are reporting that when running reports, application hangs
( 2/3 times a day in worst case )
Looking at windows event log, find out that timeouts are occurring
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7011
Date: 14/02/2006
Time: 12:08:51
User: N/A
Computer: MOLLY2
Description:
Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for a transaction response from the OracleReportServer-rep_molly service.
How do I determine what is causing the timeout ?
Can I increase the time out while trying to find the cause
Awaiting more info from Usera via their IT dept
Ian

If you look at showjobs for that Reports Server, what is the error from Oracle on the failing jobs? The URL will be like: http://server:port/reports/rwservlet/showjobs?server=<SERVERNAME>
I'm not quite sure how things are reported from Oracle into the OS Event Log and whether more important things are missing. Get that info & post if this doesn't help.
Also, I'd recommend that you push up your engines. Look at your CPU load, but if the reports aren't overly complex, changing maxEngine to 4 and minEngine to 2 and initEngine to two. This might help things in general and prevent one report from hanging up lots of other users. If the system is a little bogged down, change the maxEngine to at least 2. A fair rule of thumb is 2 - 4 engines per processor, but if you're not constantly running them on a server, even a large one, I woudn't go more than 4 personally.
Here is the default entry for a Reports Server from a Windows System. It is in the <REPORTS SERVER NAME>.conf file in ORACLE_HOME/reports/conf
<engine id="rwEng" class="oracle.reports.engine.EngineImpl" initEngine="1" maxEngine="1" minEngine="0" engLife="50" maxIdle="30" callbackTimeOut="90000">

  • HP-UX: Oracle AS 10g Reports server hangs

I have installed Oracle AS 10g Forms and reports services on HP-UX. Initially Forms and reports were working fine. Presently forms are also working fine.
However reports started giving problem REP-56055: Exceed max connections allowed then changed the value of maxconnects from 20 to 100.
Presently reports server gets hang. If I try to run test report from the URL:
    http://venus.marineterminals.com:7780/reports/rwservlet?server=rep_venus_OracleAS_FormsReports+destype=cache+desformat=html+report=test.rdf
I am getting the following error message "No Response from Application Web Server " Can anybody please help me to rectify this issue.

    Hello,
Most of the times, the error REP-56055: Exceed max connections allowed is returned because some reports exections are hanging and keep the connection.
Have you tried to use the Reports engine attribute "engineResponseTimeOut" in order to kill automatically the reports execution that are hanging ?
    http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_17/bi.1012/b14048/pbr_conf.htm
Of course, the real cause of the problem should be investigated ...

  • Unable to integrate MS report server - hanging!!!

    Hi,
Does anyone have any clue as to why I'm unable to integrate a MS Report Server into Xcelsius 2008 (Engage)  via the Report Services button?
I am able to view reports fine via a browser but when trying to add Report Server link to Xcelsius it just hangs displaying a clock icon (therefore, no error message)
I've looked at numerous articles and notes but couldn't find a solution.
    Using:
    Xcelsius 2008 Engage (FP3)
    SQL Reporting Services 2005
Report Server URL format: http://<server>/<report server>
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I recommend the Reports forum for this question:
    Reports
You could also look in your domain's servers/AdminServer/logs/AdminServer.log assuming "AdminServer" is the name of the Admin Server. This may give more detail than the error message you have.
It seems pretty clear that this is a network communication issue. I'd validate that the there is a process running listening on port 6701 on that host, that there are not ssl issues, etc.

  • 10g(10.1.2.0.2) rwserver(Report Server) Issue

    Dear All
We have Installed oracle 10g(Forms [32 Bit] Version 10.1.2.0.2 (Production) and running the same on file server mode. we have created a report server(rwserver server=test)
on the server which is used by other users for running the reports on their machine .
We are currently facing a problem that report server hangs and user gets that response "UNABLE TO RUN REPORT". when we close and restart the report server
then reports works fine. But this happens not very frequently (one/twice) in a day. Sometimes the report server continues running two three days without any problem.
Please suggest what can be the proper solution.
    Thanks
    Manoj Rajput

1.) Bring your Forms installation at least to the latest patchlevel 10.1.2.3 (plus the latest bundle patches for forms and reports)
2.) if this doesn't help you might want to post to the correct forum: Reports

  • Oracle Applcation Server - Repors Server Hang or Lock

    Hi All,
Our Enterprise is using Oracle DB 10 g and For Frontend we are using Oracle Application Server - Forms and Reports Services
When using the reports IN WEB, we get a default of SUBMIT QUERY AND RESET WHEN RUNNING THE RDF.
OUR USERS WHEN THEY SUBMIT QUERY  TWO OR THREE TIMES, WE GET THE PROBLEM OF REPORTS SERVER HANGING AS DUPLICATE JOBS COME IN QUEUE.

this is the way they are calling the reports in web. - url displayed.
can they be able to do something in , to stop them submitting jobs (submit query) again and again. (Like some buttons became inactive after clicking once).
Also please advise if something we can do to change the URL - some standard formats. please advise

  • Windows developed report hangs on Unix Reports server ??

    Hi,
We recently migrated from a Windows BI tier to HP-UX Itanium. The problem I have is that one particular report just hangs in the Unix reports server. The basics of the report are that it has repeating frames which displays three record blocks per page. I use a formatting trigger on a derived field to alternate the background colour of the frames.
After making several modifications to the report I've discovered that the trigger to alternate the background colour is the issue. I can use the same field with a trigger to say conditionally display a field or hide another frame and that works ok. I can set the background of the frame to another colour and the report works fine.
As soon as I use a formatting trigger to change the background it hangs.
In terms of report development I'm stuck with only Windows as Report builder is not available for our platform so troubleshooting this is a tedious process.
Has anyone seen anything like this before ????
    Cheers,
    Ron

    hello,
oracle reports has always had this dependency. it needs the x environemtn for rendering of the output. so you need an active xsession for the reports server to point DISPLAY to.
a possible work around is the use of a soft-terminal such as VNC or xvfb (see oracle9i application server release notes for details).

  • Report server getting hanged frequently

    Hi
Our Reports service on our Flexcube application server is always going down and this has been a case for a long time. We get errors like Unable to connect to the reports server when we try to print reports. We at times get the error Unable to connect to the reports when the reports server under OPMN is shown as ALIVE. we also have a case where the users will be able to generate reports but the status of the reportsserver will be shown as DOWN or NONE. when the reports server is down and we try to start it. at times the reports server wont start with error Exceed Max Connections Allowed OR Process (pid=21326)
failed to start a managed process after the maximum retry limit
    Regards
    Shweta

Currently we are shutting it down and then restarting it, whenever it hangs, as a work around.
Please take this as a priority and suggest

  • Report Server report process hangs during formatting reports

We are using Forms and Reports services stand alone.
I am printing 2000 reports every day, 5% reports hangs during formatting pages, or at any page number while formatting. Has anybody seen this problem and what was the fix. I am seriously thinking to change the report server and move to crystal reports.

I am able to run request using Reports service. So this problem may be a setup issue.
    1) Ensure that in $OH\network\admin\tnsnames.ora you have the TNS entry fo the DB connection
    mydb, mydb.com =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = fullHostName)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = service_name)
If you have multiple Oracle Homes in the same machine please see that you have added tns entry to correct oracle home
    2) Set the logon user for the service . Please follow the steps given below.
    * On the machine that hosts the Reports Server, choose
Start > Settings > Control Panel
and double-click Services in the Control Panel folder.
    * In the Services dialog box, choose "OracleORACLE_HOME_NAMEReports[repserver]", where ORACLE_HOME_NAME is the home name of the Reports Server and repserver is the name of the Reports Server instance. The value of ORACLE_HOME_NAME you can see in registry .
    HKLM->SOFTWARE\Oracle\Home<x> -->ORACLE_HOME_NAME
    * Click Startup. The Services dialog window displays.
    * In the Services dialog window, select "This Account" in the" Log On As" section, and select an operating system user name and password. This specifies the user account under which the server process is run. The user running the Reports Server service must have access to anything the server may need.
    3) If these do not solve the issue, please turn ON reports tracing, restart service and post the exception/errors you see in log file here. Also please post the full request URL here.
To turn ON tracing in $OH\reports\conf\<serverName.conf> , uncomment the trace element.
The logs can be seen in $OH\reports\logs\server_name.trc and server_name-rwEng.trc
    Workaround
    4) Till the setup issue with windows service is identified, you can workaround the issue by starting server as a standalone executable. For that give ,
    rwserver server=server_name
    Thanks

  • Report runs in Report Builder but hangs in Report Server

    Hi,
I am using Oracle Reports 10g to build a report with many formula columns. Everything was working perfectly till I added some condition in a query in formula columns. After adding it, report is not working in Report Server but runs only in Report Builder. If I removed this condition, report runs OK but I need it. This condition is very simple, just filtering be a decoded column (i.e. stts = 'D')
Can anyone suggest how to solve this problem?

    Hi,
what is the application server version you are running your reports on?
If it is 10.1.2.0.2 to 10.1.2.2  and you are using PDF SUBSETTING (check the [PDF:Subset] section in the uifont.ali file in your server) then you are most probably facing Bug:5029259 . To resolve the issue read further Doc ID 363868.1 in Oracle Support. In short, your options are:
    1. apply patchset 10.1.2.3 or maybe patch 5029259 is enough.
    2. or make sure no NULL values are returned in the report. Use nvl where possible. If there was no problem before making the changes then maybe checking the new formula columns would be enough. I made this change myself when facing this issue and it appears that this resolved the problem.
    3. or change REPORTS_ENHANCED_SUBSET to NO in windows registry if under windows or $ORACLE_HOME/bin/reports.sh if under linux.  REPORTS_ENHANCED_SUBSET=YES is necessary if you are using TTF subsetting, though. So this might not be an option.

  • Garbage displayed while running the report in browser using report server

We are facing problem in displaying the Arabic text from the Report Server.
We have Digital Server running Tru64 4.0f unix. We have two similiar servers, both are
clustered. We have Report Server(6i) running in one machine and the Database(8.1.7) running
    in the other.
When we tried the reports having only English text it is working fine. We need Arabic text
also in the report. The Arabic text are coming as ?????? . We tried setting the NLS_LANG
environment to AMERICAN_AMERICA.AR8MSWIN1256 and changed the Tk2Motif.rgb to take this
character set. Then we get the error REP 1352 - The font is not supported by the NLS_LANG.
Then we tried the various NLS_LANG environment AMERICAN_AMERICA.AR8ISO8859P6, ARABIC_SAUDI
ARABIA.AR8MSWIN1256 and ARABIC_SAUDI ARABIA.AR8ISO8859P6, in all the cases the report is
just hanging. If We unset the NLS_LANG and the Tk2Motif.rgb the english part of the reports
are coming alright, still the arabic is coming ??????.
    null

    hello,
where does it display the ???????s. it seems that the client, you are using to display the output does not have the right font-sets installed.

  • Stuck Threads Leading to server hang

    Hi ,
We have been facing a problem with Stuck Threads in our production environment. We are currently running version 8.1. Though the stuck Threads do point to JDBC issues, we suspect that these problems may be related to some Weblogic/OS configuration issue as well. These probelms eventually lead to a server hang.
The general pattern of the problem is that we see messages like :

Sometimes a deadlock Exception would be thrown from the Database,

    Hi,
I guess this issue is related to your connectivity and hyperion services. Can you take a restart and try to execute the reports. Also try to check all your Hyperion services are up and running before executing the FR Reports. You can also check the Reporting services by login to Weblogic server (if you have applied it in your environment). In weblogic it should be in Running mode and not in Admin mode. If it is not in Running mode then try to check the Data Source setting from Connection Pool in Weblogic Server.

  • Load Balancing Reports Server

I am supporting an app server for a Forms & Reports application that uses run_report_object to run reports on a Reports Server. This is on 10gR2 (10.1.2.0.2) on Solaris & Linux.
Currently running multiple standalone Reports Servers on a single server (for 3 different projects). Need to prevent one project from affecting another as much as possible (yes, I know they are on the same box....).
I have a requirement to ensure that a hanging Reports Server doesn't prevent other jobs from running. I see that Reports Server clustering is no longer an option. The Reports documentation about how to implement HA basically say just read the AS docs and figure it out. The problem is that using the AS J2EE HA means that you'd HAVE to use the Reports Servlet. Additionally, I don't see how the reports servlet could be called so that more than one Reports server would be used.
I keep hearing about an impending doc about implementing HA on Reports. When is it coming?
Future environments will be multiple AS installs on separate boxes accessing a RAC DB.
So, what's the scoop? How can I implement this?
    So, here are my questions:
    1. (Two Servers) I believe I could do this on two servers if I had the same Reports Server name on each. If so, could I have two OC4J containers on each server both with the same mount point for the rwservlet application? What else would I need to do to tell OHS to load balance between both since they have the same name.
    2. (Two Servers) If 1 above is okay, would it be possible to have two OC4J containers point to two different standalone Reports Servers?
    3. (One Server) Can I start up multiple Reports Servers on same box with the same name (I'm pretty sure this is no :-) )
    4. (One Server) Like 2 above except on a single server. Two independent OC4J containers accessing two different servlets. Each has a default Reports Server setup. URL would look the same from each.
I'm kind of graping for straws here on how to move ahead. I'm surprised the Reports Server clustering was taken away, but I suspect it is because the underlying Visibroker architecture was changed and there weren't the resources required to redo this. I'm not sure that is a good thing.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    :-) Steve

Say you have two servers where you configured Reports, i.e. either in full Enterprise Edition or in AS10g Forms&Reports standalone.
    For example:
    ServerA.oracle.com with port 7777
    ServerB.oracle.com with port 7777
Without using a load balancer you would call a Report with:
    http://ServerA.oracle.com:7777/reports/rwservlet?report=test.rdf&userid=scott/tiger@orcl&destype=cache&desformat=htmlcss
    http://ServerB.oracle.com:7777/reports/rwservlet?report=test.rdf&userid=scott/tiger@orcl&destype=cache&desformat=htmlcss
Now you put a load balancer in front of them and assign it the virtual name:
reports.oracle.comNow you can call Reports with this URL:
    http://reports.oracle.com:7777/reports/rwservlet?report=test.rdf&userid=scott/tiger@orcl&destype=cache&desformat=htmlcss
To make it more interesting you create a specific Reports Server on ServerA called repserver_a and on ServerB: repserver_b. You add them into Enterprise Manager with:
$OH/bin/addNewServerTarget.sh repserver_a (on ServerA and with repserver_b on ServerB). You might need to reload opmnctl and emctl with:
    opmnctl reload
emctl reloadIn $OH/reports/conf you add this line at the end (use server=repserver_b on ServerB) :
    reporting: userid=scott/tiger@orcl destype=cache desformat=htmlcss server=repserver_a %* You'll call your Reports with this URL:
    http://reports.oracle.com:7777/reports/rwservlet?reporting&report=test.rdf
    Good luck!

  • Unable to create a reports server to test web.show_document in Forms 10.1.2

    Hi all,
In Forms 10.1.2 DS, I'm trying to use the web.show_document built-in to 'generate' a report from a .jsp file. This JSP file was created by wizard through creating a report object in the Object Navigator. The code I'm using from a push button is as follows:
    web.show_document('http://<hostname>:8889/reports/rwservlet?report=<dirpath>\Sales.jsp&userid=<username/password@connectstring&server=<server_name>'
As far as I am aware no 'reports server' has been created so I've tried the following command in a dos window:
    rwserver -install <server_name>
but this just raises an 'alert' indicating that I should consult an installation guide to setup and install the server. So my questions are:
    (1) Is what I'm trying to do supported in DS?
    (2) What installation guide should I consult?
Any information on this would be gratefully appreciated,
    Kevin.

    Hi Inol,
Thanks for the response. I agree with the comment about exposing user details, I'm just doing a bit of experimenting at the moment! I tried to do what you suggest in terms of changing the URL but whether I reference the server or leave it out, the subsequent browser session seems to hang and then eventually I get a 'Page Not Found' response. On using the URL 'http://127.0.0.1:8889/reports/rwservlet/showenv?', I get an 'Access Denied' Error Page. Is there something additional I need to set up with regards to Reports to get this to work?
    regards,
    Kevin.

  • Reports server in iAS 10g ignores some xml settings when running report

Hi, has anyone else noticed that when you run a report on the reports server from iAs10g it seems to ignore certain settings you specified? I am talking about:
    - tag names when they are (case insensitively) equal to the result column name from the query (I changed the tag names from uppercase to lowercase and this is ignored, apparently they are compared case insensitively)
    - the setting "Outer XML Tag" for a group is default set to Yes and ignored when set to No. (this means that for the repeating groups you always have an opening and a closing tag around them called LIST_GROUPNAME)
These settings are working fine in the builder itself but apparently ignored in the reportsserver.
Or am I the only one that has his problem?
    Wendy

    Hi Amy,
Is this a web or windows app? check the Event logs, it may show you what is hanging or add logging to your app to see what CR can't get to or what it is waiting for.
Turn on SQL Profiler to see if the query is even getting to the Server.
    Thank you
    Don
