Reports for Linux?
I have a bunch of Oracle reports which have been developed on NT. I need to run these on a Linux box. Does anybody know if there is a Reports runtime for Linux?

Developement:
Forms, Reports..; for Linux : currently no. I don't know for the future, but if it works like the other Unix platorms, you develop under Windows (NT, 95, 98) and you run your programs under Unix. The runtime exists, but not the development tools.
Administration:
Query http://freshmeat.net with the oracle keyword. You will find free tools. I've tried
the vsbabu tool (http://www.csoft.net/~vsbabu/ see the PHP section). It is a simple and good Oracle database viewer.

I've read on some bug report and forums that on Linux you have to copy the library $ORACLE_HOME/bin/rwsvl60.so to
$ORACLE_HOME/lib/librwsvl60.so and put the $ORACLE_HOME/lib directory in your LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable.
Even if you do this, you still have the java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: rwinit.
So i've decompiled the RWServlet.class file to put some debug code in it, and look what i obtained:

There is apparently a problem with librwsvl60.so and libca60.so, I think its a problem with the version of glibc you use
at the installation when it create the links, etc. Does anybody find the solution?

Crystal Report Server XI R2 SP2 for Linux??

HelloTrying to get Crystal Report Server XI R2 on Linux working, I have downloaded the latest eval version that I could find aka "crsxir2linuxdisc1.tar.gz" and "crsxir2linuxdisc2.tar.gz" and plugged in the XI R2 Eval Code.In theory I should be able to use my Crystal XI license code to license R2... but the Server does not accept the XI license code.Is it just me or is Crystal Server Patching REALLY confusing or what.... There doesn't seem to be a clear place to download anything later than the XI R2 shipping code for Crystal Server either for Windows or for Linux. The latest version of Developer is easy to find.... what about Crystal Server?Answered my own question. Managed to upgrade to 5.0 following this process, but follow these instructions with care...
1. Stop all CMS services in Config Manager.
2. Go to Add/Remove programs and click "change" for Crystal Reports Server XI. Click on "Modify" then change the entry for MySQL4.1.13a to "Entire Feature will be unavailable" (from Enterprise -> Server Components -> Servers - > Central Management Server). This will remove the existing mySQL version and any data/license key information/customisation, so be wary.
3. Install the desired version of mySQL.
4. Use the MySql command line to create a new database - "create DATABASE BOE115;"
5. In the Central Config Manager, select the CMS and display its properties. Select the Dependencies tab and remove the old version of mySQL and add the new version. Click on the Config tab, then Select Datasource. Select mySQL driver, then complete the details for the newly created database. Once complete it will still produce an error, at which point you need to select the options to Re-create the Current Datasource.
6. Once the datasource is sucessfully recreated, restart the Crystal service in the Config Manager.
7. Open the Config tool, and add your license key. Then Re-Enable all the servers within the Servers page.
8. Any other customisation or preferences would need to be re-applied.
This worked for me, but obviously take care as your existing mySQL database will be completely removed during the process. -

Error when compiling jasper report on Linux

Background:
I got a web application (java 1.4.2,Struts ) contained in Tomcat 5.0 server running on a Linux OS ver. 2.6.8.
The application works fine except when generating a report. It seems that the error is thrown during compilation
of the jasper template as suggested from the line ....JasperCompileManager.compileReport(JasperCompileManager.java:195) listed
above . I'm able to build the reports on Win 2K though.
What else needs to be done on the Linux side? All i've done so far is to set the path for java in the env. variables.
Have checked out varous sites/forums for solutions but so far still no luck. Your suggestions or assistance will be greatly appreciated.To solve this issue, start your java environment with the option -Djava.awt.headless=true.
It solves the issue... if you google for "Linux"+"JasperReports"+"NoClassDefFoundError" you will find the background info on this issue.

You are missing some required Linux files. When you install
Linux, pick the 'everything' option, then weed out the obvious
things you don't want (like the Serbian How-To's, etc.)
I say this because I ran into the exact same thing this past
weekend after picking and choosing which packages to install for
Linux. After re-installing with the 'everything' option, the
Oracle install went swimmingly. I wish I could tell you which
package in particular you are missing, but I never figured that
out.

Problems using Reports on Linux
Hello everybody
Here is a strange problem I often see when I access Reports Builder on Linux machine.
When I make a report for the first from the menu it works fine.
I save the report and if I try to open it again the Reports builder crashes
with the following errors.

This is not a common issue in linux and hence I suspect mainly your environment having some strange issue.
To narrow down the issue,
- Try saving the report both in rdf , jsp and xml format
- close the builder. open the builder and try opeining each of these and see the carsh is happeneing for all the formats or for specific one
- Please ensure to use the hotspot jvm and not the classic jvm in the reports.sh, you can mention this.

can anybody tell me if there is a Oracle 11g v11.1.0.7.0 available for Linux RedHat, maybe a Pre-Version for Oracle-Customers/Partners?
A problem was reported to us pertaining to some privilege problems under Oracle 11g v11.1.0.7.0 / Linux, but i cannot find any version on:

There is only a v11.1.0.7.0 for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and the last version for Linux is there v11.1.0.6.0.

The case with Windows 2008 exists because there was no way to install 11.1.0.6 on that platform, so the process of 'install and patch' is not possible. Therefore they needed to 'fix' the initial install for that specific plaftform and it is their policy to only release to the 'current patch set' (which was 11.1.0.7 at the time).
With Linux, you can 'make it work' with newer versions (eg: RH 5u4) by providing the appropriate compat libraries, therefore the original 'install and patch' process is still valid.
Making Linux 11.1.0.7 available would nullify their Support mechanisms. -
9iDS for Linux - OWB, Disco Admin etc are missing from download
I've just installed 9iDS release 2 on a laptop running SuSE 8.0 and Oracle 9i release 2 Enterprise Edition.
As my work primarily involves 9i database and OWB 9i, I was to say the least dissappointed that 9iDS for Linux does not include OWB, or for that matter Disco Admin or Reports Admin.
When you go to download 9iDS for Linux, the download page says "This download includes the full distribution of Oracle9iDS", and the previous page (which lists all the elements of the download, next to the links for Windows, Linux, HP-UX and so on) does not in any way indicate that OWB is not included in the download.
There is, separately downloadable, an 'early adopters' release of OWB for Linux, but this does not include the bridging technology to Discoverer, Express and 9i OLAP. As it's 'early adopted' presumably it's not too stable.
Has anyone used this? Has anyone tried using a laptop purely with Linux on it as a way of using 9iDS? Does anyone at Oracle know when a full release of 9iDS, with all the elements found in the Windows release, will be made available? In the meantime, Oracle should clearly state on the Linux download page that not all the elements of 9iDS are found in the Linux version.

Changing "#if 0" to "#if 1" changes a "while (cond) {body;}" to a
"do {body;} while(cond)", and is sufficient to work around the
problem in this case.

How to install itunes for Linux OS ??
Some people have reported at least partial success using one of the Windows emulators such as WINE, so you might try that. There is no native version of iTunes for Linux and no indications from Apple that they have any plans for one.
