Crystal Report Server XI R2 SP2 for Linux??
Post Author: plambrechtsen
CA Forum: Upgrading and Licensing
HelloTrying to get Crystal Report Server XI R2 on Linux working, I have downloaded the latest eval version that I could find aka "crsxir2linuxdisc1.tar.gz" and "crsxir2linuxdisc2.tar.gz" and plugged in the XI R2 Eval Code.In theory I should be able to use my Crystal XI license code to license R2... but the Server does not accept the XI license code.Is it just me or is Crystal Server Patching REALLY confusing or what.... There doesn't seem to be a clear place to download anything later than the XI R2 shipping code for Crystal Server either for Windows or for Linux. The latest version of Developer is easy to find.... what about Crystal Server?
Answered my own question. Managed to upgrade to 5.0 following this process, but follow these instructions with care...
1. Stop all CMS services in Config Manager.
2. Go to Add/Remove programs and click "change" for Crystal Reports Server XI. Click on "Modify" then change the entry for MySQL4.1.13a to "Entire Feature will be unavailable" (from Enterprise -> Server Components -> Servers - > Central Management Server). This will remove the existing mySQL version and any data/license key information/customisation, so be wary.
3. Install the desired version of mySQL.
4. Use the MySql command line to create a new database - "create DATABASE BOE115;"
5. In the Central Config Manager, select the CMS and display its properties. Select the Dependencies tab and remove the old version of mySQL and add the new version. Click on the Config tab, then Select Datasource. Select mySQL driver, then complete the details for the newly created database. Once complete it will still produce an error, at which point you need to select the options to Re-create the Current Datasource.
6. Once the datasource is sucessfully recreated, restart the Crystal service in the Config Manager.
7. Open the Config tool, and add your license key. Then Re-Enable all the servers within the Servers page.
8. Any other customisation or preferences would need to be re-applied.
This worked for me, but obviously take care as your existing mySQL database will be completely removed during the process.

Crystal Reports Server 2008 V1, RedHat Enterprise Linux, MySQL, ODBC
Iu2019m confused about connecting to an ODBC source from a report within CMC. Iu2019m a Unix guy; I donu2019t know much about Crystal reports, but Iu2019m working with a Crystal guy to get this thing working.
<br><br>
First, background: I have installed Crystal Reports Server 2008 V1 in RedHat Enterprise Linux (5.4), and itu2019s running just fine! Iu2019m using the included Tomcat application server, but Iu2019m storing CMS and Audit data our local running copy of MySQL (5.1.42). The RHEL install is native 32-bit (the only way I could get it to work), Crystal is storing and retrieving data from MySQL, The Central Management Console is responding to port 8080 over Tomcat, Iu2019m able to log in and see stuff, and so far, life is good.
<br><br>
Now, where Iu2019m stuck: the data weu2019re trying to build reports from <i>also</i> resides in this local Linux / MySQL install, and connecting to it from a report within CMC is where Iu2019m lost.
<br><br>
First, I successfully installed the unixODBC and MyODBC drivers in Linux. Iu2019m able to connect to MySQL successfully using the isql utility. Here are my conf files:
<br><br>
<pre class="jive-pre"><code class="jive-code jive-java">/etc/odbc.ini
[DSN_NAME]
Driver = MySQL ODBC 5.1 Driver
DATABASE = project_web_prod
DESCRIPTION = Project Description
UID = username
PWD = password
SOCKET = /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock
/etc/odbcinst.ini
[MySQL ODBC 5.1 Driver]
Driver = /usr/lib/libmyodbc5.so
UsageCount = 1
</code></pre>
<br>
Again, this all works with isql (Iu2019ve even used both a socket connection, and port 3306, in odbc.ini).
<br><br>
Now, our Crystal guy uploads a report into the CMC. I go to <i>Folders -> <Project Folder></i>, right-click the report I want to test, click <i>Database Configuration</i>, and check the option <i>Use custom database login information specified here</i>. I select database driver <i>ODBC</i> from the dropdown, and type in the server, database, username, and password info. However, when I try to run the report, it fails to connect.
<br><br>
So, stupid question, can Crystalu2019s CMC use the system ODBC configuration options? (The ones stored in /etc). Because I saw an odbc.ini file in ~crystalinstalldir/bobje/. I edited it to match the contents of my /etc/odbc[inst].ini files, but to no avail. I saw that Crystal has itu2019s own ODBC engine, but it doesnu2019t support MyODBC driver, does it? I even tried hacking env.sh to use the system unixODBC library instead of the included one, but no luck.
<br><br>
So, in short, my question: how do I simply get reports in CMC to connect to a MySQL data source (using ODBC)?
<br><br>
Thanks so much! An answer to this question will save my day!
<br><br>Thank you, Efstratios, for the helpful reply!
So, I followed the directions in the PDF file you attached, and everything went smoothly. However, Iu2019m still not able to connect to ODBC within CMC.
Hereu2019s what I did:
<ul style="list-style-type:disc">
<li>Copied the unixODBC libraries over to <installdir>/bobje/enterprise120/linux_x86/odbc/lib</li>
<li>Removed MySQL ODBC connector 5.1, installed MySQL ODBC connector 3.51.</li>
<li>Edited <installdir>/bobje/defaultodbc.ini, added my DSN and MySQL library info as per the instructions (I have both an odbc.ini, and defaultodbc.ini, identical files, just to be safe)</li>
<li>Tested the connection using these libraries, this odbc.ini, and isql. Worked just fine</li>
</ul>
So, my problem seems to be in getting the CMC to actually <i>use</i> my ODBC setup!
Any other hints / things I could try?
When I right-click a report, and go to “Database Configuration,” which connection options should I use for the report? Iu2019ve tried both “Use original database logon information from the report,” and “Use custom database logon information specified here” (using the ODBC option from the drop-down menu). Either way, if I enter in the database, username, password, and then try to run the report (“Run Now”), I get this message in the History: “Failed - Information is needed before this report can be processed.”
Is there another place I could get a more helpful error message? Or is there, perhaps, another way I could test database connectivity from within CMC? I wish there were at least a “Test Database Connection” optionu2026 :P
Thanks so much for your help! -
CRRuntime_12_0.msm and Crystal Reports Server X1 R2 SP2
I have installed an app onto a server with the CRRuntime merge module in the project setup file. Although I have removed the app no .NET app which loads a crystal report will run on the server. Is there a conflict between the CRRuntime and the Crystal Reports Server please?
I cannot see any evidence of the runtime remaining on the server but would appreciate any comments.
Many thanks
Ian CarrHi Ian,
Likely what has happened when you un-installed is the Microsoft Installer did not completely remove all our references in the registry. CR Server is possibly looking for the CR 12 folders which no longer exist.
Try doing a repair install from Add/Remove Programs for CRS.
You could search the registry for any CR 12 key's but I don't recommend removing them. Repairing should put 11.5 first in the list and should resolve the problem.
Thank you

How to get past Crystal Reports Server 2008 Linux install error
Hi,
During the install of Crystal Reports Server 2008 on Red Hat Linux we select use an existing DB (Oracle) and it prompts for:
Crystal Reports Server 2008 Setup
Enter the information for your new CMS
Oracle TNSNAME :
[SANDBOX ] *
User ID :
[crystal_rpt ] *
Password :
which then gives me:
Crystal Reports Server 2008 Setup
ERROR
Failure to validate the database credential has a potential to crash the database at a later stage. Enter the correct information.
It doesn't let me get past this and just send me back to the previous screen. I've check and re-checked and the information TNSNAME, User ID, and Password are all correct. Now I can exit out the install and sqlplus to the database just fine with all that same information.
What does this error mean? And how do I get past it?
Thanks,
~JetHi Jet,
I've go the same problem. Have you solved this problem?

Invalid Key code Error while installing crystal report server 11
While installing crystal report server 11,i am facing an erro which says Invalid Key code Error.I had raised this issue to SAP customer support and attaching the conversation that we had.PLEASE HELP me to resolve the issue.
MAILS--Dear Mohit,
Thanks for the patience.
We have received the below update from the Licensing Team.
You received your permanent key in respect of these licenses - the key is for Crystal Reports Server XI.
You did not purchase these licenses for Crystal Reports Server, but purchased it for Crystal Reports and a 5-named user license for Crystal Reports was included as a special offer. The software included was version XIR2, but you elected to use version XI instead and received key .
You would need to enroll the licenses in maintenance if you want to upgrade them.
In case of any queries please create a ticket via the Service Market Place.

We have bought licensed Crystal Reports Server 11 near by 2006.We are trying to install the crystal server but while installing ,we have encountered with an error message that:-
"The product key code you have entered is incorrect"
We are facing the same issue in 2006,I am attaching with this email the conversations that was held in 2006 to get the correct key code.
Please help us to resolve the issue as early as possible.

If you need any further information do let me knowAjit,
By design, the product is not able to be installed under the superuser account.
1. Create a new user and specify a home directory for the user without a quota set.
2. Copy or move the installation files to a directory that the new user can read. I suggest you move the installation files directly into the new user's home directory.
3. Logon as the new user (or su - newuser)
4. run the installation shell script using that new user's account.
NOTE: Ensure the system meets the requirements from the supported platforms documents.

RAS Java API Exception on Crystal Reports Server XI R2
Hi
We download run the evaluation version of Crystal Reports Server XI R2 SP2.
Our web application uses RAS Java API to talk to Crystal Reports Server to open unmanaged reports.
ReportClientDocument lo_ReportClientDoc = new ReportClientDocument(); //*** Cause exception
ReportAppSession reportAppSession = new ReportAppSession();
reportAppSession.createService(
"com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.application.ReportClientDocument"); //*** Cause exception
reportAppSession.setReportAppServer(servername);
reportAppSession.initialize(); //*** Cause exception
lo_ReportClientDoc.setReportAppServer(reportAppSession.getReportAppServer());
lo_ReportClientDoc.open(asReportName,OpenReportOptions._openAsReadOnly);
ReportServerControl control = new ReportServerControl();
control.setReportSource(lo_ReportClientDoc.getReportSource());
The lines marked with "//*** Cause exception" above cause the following exceptions, although at the end the reports came up correctly. When we were running Crystal Reports Server XI (Release 1), we did not see this exception. Can you tell what is going wrong? Thanks.

Using Web Services on the Crystal Report Server XI to return reports
<p>Hi,</p><p>I'm trying to setup for the first time a Crystal Reports Server XI R2 and put a couple of reports onto the server. This is so I can access the reports on the crystal reports server using using the crystal web services and finally display the reports in an ASP.NET web application.</p><p>So far I have installed the server, created a couple of reports, put them on the server, and tested to see that I can access the reports using the Central Management Console. This all works fine and the reports are returned.</p><p> Ok, now for the bit that's not working.</p><p> I've got a C# ASP.NET web application, and I've followed a couple of <a href="http://support.businessobjects.com/documentation/product_guides/cr_net/vs_2005/html/crtsktutorialsotherdynamicpulldownwebservicehelpermethod.htm" target="_blank" title="Adding a Helper Method to Access Crystal Reports Web Services">tutorials</a> to give me an idea of what I should be doing to use the Web Services that are provided: </p><ul><li>ServerFileReportManager.asmx</li><li>ServerFileReportService.asmx </li></ul><p>However, it appears that when I list the child objects on the crystal server:</p><blockquote><font size="2" color="#008080"><font size="1"><em><font size="2"><p><font size="1">serverFileReport = <font color="#0000ff">new</font> <font color="#008080">ServerFileReport</font>();<br /></font><font size="1">serverFileReport.ReportPath = <font color="#800000">""</font>;<br /></font><font size="1"><br />reportManagerRequest = <font color="#0000ff">new</font> <font color="#008080">ReportManagerRequest</font>();<br /></font><font size="1">reportManagerRequest.ExtraData = serverFileReport.GetExtraData();<br /></font><font size="1">reportManagerRequest.ParentUri = serverFileReport.ToUri();<br /></font><font size="2" color="#008080"><font size="1"><em><br />ReportManagerResponse</em></font></font><font size="1"><em> reportManagerResponse = <font color="#0000ff">new</font> <font color="#008080">ReportManagerResponse</font>();<br />reportManagerResponse = serverFileReportManagerProxy.ListChildObjects(reportManagerRequest);</em></font></p></font></em></font></font></blockquote><p><font size="1"><font size="1">I always get a</font> <font size="2"><font size="1"><em>reportManagerResponse.ReportUris</em></font></font></font><font size="1"> with a count of 0. <p>I looks like your mixing technologies here. You are using <strong>Crystal Report Server</strong> and the <strong>Crystal Report Web Services</strong> that come with Visual Studio.</p><p>I know that this might seem like they are the same product, and the naming does seem confusing but I'll try and make it easy for you to understand.</p><p><strong>Crystal Reports Server</strong> - This is a managed reporting solution which allows you to distribute your reports via the web. It has features like scheduling and built in security.</p><p>It appears that you have a handle on what Crytal Report Server is from what you have been able to accomplish those far. You have created your report and published it to Crystal Report Server and viewed it via the Central Management Console. Crystal Reports Server has two methods for accessing the reports programatically.</p><p>1. The Enterprise SDK</p><p>2. The Web Services SDK</p><p><a href="/node/353">Check out this white paper that compares these two SDKs </a></p><p><a href="/node/256">This paper describes the Web Services SDK.</a></p><p>In the above paper there is a getting started section which points you to the Developer Library which shows you how to install the web services on your Crytal Reports Server machine.</p><p>Crystal Reports Server does not have the Business Object web services installed by default so I would suggest following the directions in the <a href="http://devlibrary.businessobjects.com/BusinessObjectsXIR2/en/devsuite.htm">Developer Library.</a></p><p>The directions wont talk about Crystal Reports Server but these are the directions to get the Web Services installed. </p><p>There is another web services technology which you are writing code for which is called <strong>Crystal Report Web Services. </strong>This technology comes with Visual Studio 2003. It provides un-managed reports via webservices. Un-managed means these reports are not published to Crystal Reports Server.</p><p>So basically your problem is that your code is for <strong>Crystal Report Web Services </strong>but you are trying to view reports published to <strong>Crystal Reports Server.</strong> To take advantage of scheduling and security and web service access I would suggest using Crystal Reports Server and install the Business Objects Platform webservices to access the reports. </p><p>I hope that's clear.<br /></p><p>Rob Horne<br /><a href="/blog/10">Rob's blog - http://diamond.businessobjects.com/blog/10</a></p>

I am using Crystal Reports Server XI on Linux Server with Oracle Server 10g.
I did install Oracle Client on Report Server and config Oracle SID in tnsnames.ora also. It works well with tnsping command. Then, I published a report which was created in Crystal Reports developer on this server.
When I preview the report on Report Server. I got the following error message:
Error in File Report1: Failed to load database information.
Try to fix the problem I ran web Central Management Console -> Objects ->Report1->Process -> Database and set there the following parameters:
Database driver: Oracle
Server: servers_host_name
Database: (tried both ORACLE_SID and tns_name)
User: oracle_user_name
Password: oracle_pw
It still got the same problem.
I will appreciate any help.
Tham.I was having a similar problem in Crystal Reports Server 2008 v1, and had to install the full client to resolve it, which I didn't like. I poked around some, and was able to get the Instant Client working with a few minor changes. Note that I tried it only with the 32-bit Instant Client even though I was on a 64-bit system because that was what SAP recommended when I talked to them.
The changes I had to do was initialize the Oracle environment variables (the instant client doesn't have a script to do this for you) and to create a soft-link which is included in the full client, but not in the instant client.
To setup the environment variables I created a file called env.sh and put it in /opt/crystal/bobje/setup/oracle/, where /opt/crystal was my install path. This ensured that it got called by the /opt/crystal/bobje/setup/env.sh script which runs as part of the System init scripts to initialize the environment. The following is what I put in my file (again for the 32-bit 11g R2 instant client):
export ORACLE_SID=summitdb
export ORACLE_HOME='/usr/lib/oracle/11.2/client'
export ORACLE_BASE='/usr/lib/oracle/'
export TNS_ADMIN='/usr/lib/oracle/11.2/client/network/admin'
export PATH="$:/usr/lib/oracle/11.2/client/bin"
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="$$/usr/lib/oracle/11.2/client/lib"
After that, I created the missing soft link using this command:
ln -s "$/lib/libclntsh.so.11.1" "$/lib/libclntsh.so.10.1"
Once I had done those two things, and restarted the service using the /etc/init.d script, it worked fine. -

How to install SharePoint MOSS 2007 PIK for Crystal Report Server XI R2?
My configuration is :
Moss 2007 without any Crystal Report or BO component. on one box with Windows 2003 server
Cyrstal Report Server XI R2 on another box
I have downloaded the kit installation: http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/webcontent/uuid/503988db-58c5-2b10-f79d-cb96700417f9 [original link is broken]
I used this one as they said:
BusinessObjects XI Release 2 SharePoint 2007 Portal Integration Kit
Download BusinessObjects XI Release 2 SharePoint 2007 Portal Integration Kit - ZIP 5MB
I do not have BO Enterprise.
Thanks,Answered my own question.
Crystal Reports Server 2011 and BW 7 as a data source for uploaded reports.
Hello,
I am hoping someone can provide me with a clear answer for this.
Lets assume..
1. We are running crystal reports server 2011 and BW 7
2. We want to publish a report in the BI Launch pad so users can view it
3. Can we create a crystal report in the report designer with the data source as BW 7 then upload it to the reports server and have it run on-demand and Run over night?
Can anyone shed some light in this area?
kind regards
davidHi,
Crystal Reports Server is not supporting the SAP Integration Kit. You will need BusinessObjects Edge or BusinessObjects Enterprise
