Reports/print with java

How to create reports with Java?
where can I find javabeans to create reports with JBuilder?
Thanks.

JFreeReport is an open source report generator:
http://www.object-refinery.com/jfreereport/index.html
It's not a Javabean though.
Another open source option is JasperReport (there's a link on the JFreeReport page), also (I think) not a Javabean.
Hope this helps,
Dave Gilbert

  • SQL Reporting Services with Java EE

    I have developed a Java application for calling the SQL Reports. A couple of reports are made in the server. This SQL Reporting server is deployed and the client is made in the java using Werb services. Whenever a search is done from the Java application, reports are displayed on the JSP page using the web service methods. But the problem is the entire report is displayed. Is there any way to display the report based on the particular item search. Suppose, if search is made on "Australia" in the coulumn Country, the report should contain only Australian related data. Currently the search is based on the report name itself.

    This looks hopeful.I have already developed a java EE for calling reports with the help of ---"MSDN Virtual Lab: Implementing SQL Server Reporting Services with a Java Enterprise Edition (EE) Application (ID:1032315323)". Now I need to find out the parametrized reports(passing parameters to the report calls and more customization using java). In .NET, reportviewer controller is available for this purpose. I want to achieve the same type of thing using java.The protocol of controlling the Report Server is a feature of the Report Server.
    To control it you learn the protocol. To use it you program it in java.
    The first has nothing to do with java. The second obviously does.

  • Using SQL reporting services with java

    how can i use Microsoft SQL Server reporting services with java? The idea is that we create the reports using Microsoft SQL Server reporting services. Then we have our web application where user will select one of those report, pass 0 or more arguments and then we will show the report.

    nobody is using Microsoft SQL Server reporting
    services with java?Found this in 0.01 seconds with Google http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-01-2005/jw-0110-sqlrs.html
    Handy tool that Google.

  • Report printing with BI pubisher - 500 Internal server error

    Hi,
    I was having problems using BI publisher to print with. I thought we didn't have it at first, however since found we do have BI Publisher Enterprise edition.
    When I put the settings into APEX, reports don't display as expected. I get
    report error:
    ORA-20001: The printing engine could not be reached because either the URL specified is incorrect or a proxy URL needs to be specified.Now if I navigate to the URL in my web browser, http://[server]:[port]/xmlpserver/convert, I get a 500 - Internal Server Error page. The requets is definitely hitting something because if I change "convert" to say "convert1" then I get 404 (as expected). So it seems as if convert is found but then a problem occurs.
    If I navigate to just http://[server]:[port]/xmlpserver/ then I see the BI publisher enterprise login screen.
    Any ideas what might be causing this or what I could do to resovle it?
    Our APEX instance is on a unix box and BI on a M$ box if that matters (long story)?
    Thanks

    Dear Cobos, For FQDN related issues : Set profile param "icm/host_name_full" with corresponding FQDN via RZ10 transaction. Also check login/create_sso2_ticket & /accept_sso2_ticket parameters in the profile you have created.  Instead of "http://sesue:50300" you may to have the URL like "http://sesue.domain.com:50300//SAP/BW/BEX/". • XML Publisher report failing with java.lang.outofmemoryerror.

    Hi,
    We have developed a custom Oracle report that produces an XML output file that is about 13M in size (about 18K rows from the database). When running report as concurrent request, post processing fails with java.lang.outofmemoryerror. The failure occurs when specifying output format as Excel, RTF or HTML. However, the process completes successfully when specifying output format as PDF. We have also noticed that Excel, RTF and HTML will complete successfully if the XML data file is smaller (around 3M).
    Is anyone aware of a restriction on the size of the XML data file when specifying output formats Excel, RTF or HTML? We have tried setting temp directory but that has not helped.
    Thanks.

    Hi
    I found this at metalink [Note:390968.1].. hope it helps =)
    Symptoms: When attempting to run an XML Publisher concurrent program the following error occurs:
    ERROR: Warning!!! Got out of memory exception, retrying with scalable option..
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space
    Oracle.apps.xdo.oa.cp.JCP4XDODataEngine
    Program exited with status 1
    Solution: To implement the solution, please execute the following steps:
    1. Login select the responsibility: System Administrator.
    2. Navigate to Concurrent > Program > Define.
    3. Query for concurrent program that is receiving the error.
    4. In the 'Options' field please enter -Xmx512M.
    5. Save the change and retest the issue.
    6. If the report still fails with the option set to -Xmx512M change the value to -Xmx1024M, save and try again
    7. Migrate the solution as appropriate to other environments.

  • Cannot print on a USB printer with Java PrintService in Windows 2000. Why?

    I want to print a simple ASCII file on a USB printer under Win2K and
    found 2 problems. Here is the 2nd one.
    Even though
    PrintServiceLookup.lookupPrintServices(<DocFlavor>, <AttributeSet>)
    returns nothing when I specify any AttributeSet, I can still print on the default printer, which I get by
    PrintService defServicedefService = PrintServiceLookup.lookupDefaultPrintService();
    but only on a parallel printer (HP Laserjet 4 Plus), either directly attached or over the network. When I try the very same code on a locally USB-attached printer, the printer is obviously reacting, but nothing is printed.
    In case of a Lexmark 730 (an ink printer), the driver even lies, it has printed 100%,
    on a Samsung CLP-510 (a color laser) the ready light flashes twice, that's all.
    The file to be printed has 5 lines and a "0C"X at the end in order to force a page eject at the end.
    I tried it with JDK 1.4.2 and with Java 6, same problem.
    I should mention that I can print that little file out of the editor Textpad without any problem.

    Thanks a lot for the quick hint, but it did not help.
    I used BasicPrint.java and PrintJobWatcher.java of the samples for testing.
    Printing a GIF file works both to a parallel printer and a USB printer.
    Then I changed only the DocFlavor from DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.GIF to DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.AUTOSENSE, and that one works with my parallel printer, but on the USB printer the Ready light flashes twice, that's all.
    The ASCII file must have a "0C"X at the end to force a page eject on the parallel printer
    Maybe it is a matter of the DocFlavor, but which one?
    DocFlavor("application/octet-stream", "java.io.InputStream") works like DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.AUTOSENSE.
    DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.TEXT_PLAIN_HOST and DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.TEXT_HTML_US_ASCII cause sun.print.PrintJobFlavorException, and with DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.TEXT_PLAIN_US_ASCII just nothing happens on either printer, not even an error message.
    I am getting the impression that nobody of the developers ever cared for testing such a simple thing as a plain ASCII file under Windows.
    My printers I am using for the tests are
    1. an old parallel-attached HP Laserjet 4 Plus and
    2. a borrowed USB-attached Samsung CLP-510 color laser

  • Printing with Java

    Well, this is the third time I post this message, but I don't seem to find anyone interested in it, so I decided to put on some dukes... :-)
    I have never printed directly with Java, I have rather created pdf files or web-pages. However, Now I might be needing to print directly with Java (I will be using a ticket-printer), so I have done some investigation but I don't seem to find anything that I really like.
    I will be printing tickets, so I might use a simple image and text, only text, no special formatting or something. Any experiences, recommendations?
    Regards.

    This code could be useful for you. I don't know if it is platform independent:
    PrintingUtilities class
    import java.awt.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.print.*;
    /** A simple utility class that lets you very simply print
    *  an arbitrary component. Just pass the component to the
    *  PrintUtilities.printComponent. The component you want to
    *  print doesn't need a print method and doesn't have to
    *  implement any interface or do anything special at all.
    *  <P>
    *  If you are going to be printing many times, it is marginally more
    *  efficient to first do the following:
    *  <PRE>
    *    PrintUtilities printHelper = new PrintUtilities(theComponent);
    *  </PRE>
    *  then later do printHelper.print(). But this is a very tiny
    *  difference, so in most cases just do the simpler
    *  PrintUtilities.printComponent(componentToBePrinted).
    *  7/99 Marty Hall, http://www.apl.jhu.edu/~hall/java/
    *  May be freely used or adapted.
    public class PrintUtilities implements Printable {
      private Component componentToBePrinted;
    /*  public static void printComponent(Component c, int device) {
        new PrintUtilities(c).print();
      public PrintUtilities(Component componentToBePrinted) {
        this.componentToBePrinted = componentToBePrinted;
      public void print(int device) {
        PrinterJob printJob = PrinterJob.getPrinterJob();
        printJob.setPrintable(this);
        //if(printJob.printDialog())

            printJob.setPrintService(printJob.lookupPrintServices()[device]);
            printJob.setCopies(1);
            printJob.print();
            //System.out.println(printJob.getPrintService());
          } catch(PrinterException pe) {
            System.out.println("Error printing: " + pe);
      public int print(Graphics g, PageFormat pageFormat, int pageIndex) {
        if (pageIndex > 0) {

          componentToBePrinted.paint(g2d);
          enableDoubleBuffering(componentToBePrinted);
          return(PAGE_EXISTS);
      /** The speed and quality of printing suffers dramatically if

      public static void enableDoubleBuffering(Component c) {
        RepaintManager currentManager = RepaintManager.currentManager(c);

    An Example of use:

    import java.awt.print.*;
    import java.io.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class PrintExample {
      public static void main(String[] args) {

                  g.drawString("Printing a simple line!",20,20);
                  g.drawString("I hope this was useful",20,40);
        PrintUtilities printing = new PrintUtilities(F);
        Object[] array = PrinterJob.getPrinterJob().lookupPrintServices();
        for (int i=0; i<array.length;i++) System.out.println(i+" : "+array);
    System.out.print("Choose Printer device#: ");
    int device = askInteger();
    printing.print(device);
    private static int askInteger() {
         InputStreamReader ip = new InputStreamReader(System.in);
         BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(ip);
         try {
         while(!false) {
         String read = br.readLine();
         try {
         return Integer.parseInt(read);
              } catch (NumberFormatException ex) {
              System.out.print("Write an integer please > ");
         } catch (IOException exception) {
         return -1;
    Some problems appears when I'm printing pictures.
    Please post a message if you figure out what to do.

  • P&L report printing with 2 languages

    Hello all, my P&L statements are printing with a combination of English and another language. I'm not sure why it's doing this, since all my other financial reports are in English. Any ideas how I can fix this? Thanks in advance.

    Solved, the incorrect "template" in the Profit and Loss statement was being used.

  • How to integrate Crystal Report 2008 with java

    Currently we are using Crystal Report XI with our application, it is working fine. Now we are updating to Crystal Report 2008.
    We have build our application in enterprise archive file. There is a web archive file(.war) file in the EAR file which contains the crystal report. Inside the .war file we have reports folder which contain jsps and rpt folder. the jsps folder contains the crystalreportviewers12 folder and .jsp files. The rpt folder contain the.rpt files. The WEB-INF which is at the reports folder leavel contains the classes and lib folder.  The crystal report jars are in the lib folder and the CRConfig.xml file inside the classes folder.  I replaced all the crystal report jar with Crystal Report 2008 jars, modified the web.xml and the CRConfig.xml file accordingly. When I opened the report it gave me an error.
    When the following line was execuated in the jsp:
    reportClientDocument.open(report, 0);
    it gave me following error:

    Hello Ted,
    As per the samples in the link provided by you I identified that the following statement was missing.
    reportClientDocument.setReportAppServer(ReportClientDocument.inprocConnectionString);
    After adding this statement the jsp was not able to compile, it gave me an error:
    ReportClientDocument.inprocConnectionString cannot be resolved
    Now my queries are:
    1. What is Report Application server(RAS)?
    2. Is it required to set Report application server in JSP page? It was not required in Crystal Reports XI. If YES, then how to configure RAS inside our applications WAR file?
    3. I am using WebSphere Application Server for deploying the WEB Archive file (WAR file). The Crystal Reports 2008  library (JARS) are embedded inside the WEB-INF/lib folder. How to specify the RAS server inside thhe WAR file? Is it some XML configuration file which we have to keep at WEB-INF level? Or we have to modify the existing CRConfig.xml file?
    4. I would like to mention here that we have bundled crystalreportviewers12/ folder in our WAR file at the same level where reports JSP pages exits.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Send a txt file to the printer with java

    Hello,
    I want to sent a txt file to the printer in java. I' am using the USB port. I can try to setup a dos command (print c:\test.txt), but I don't know the exactly command.
    There is also another solution in java I thing but I don't know the code!
    Can somebody give me the exact command for DOS and/or the code I have to write in java?
    THANX!!!!

    in dos imo you are not able to use usb-port. if your printer would be on lpt you could use javacomm ( http://java.sun.com/products/javacomm/index.html ). there is also another thread talking about this (print text to lpt). for your usb-problem i don't have a solution. but you could use JNI (java native interface). write code in c, compile to dll and use it in java.

  • PeopleSoft XML Publisher report error with java.io.FileNotFoundException

    Hi,
    I have created two reports using XML Publisher in Peoplesoft Financials. The two reports are not related and they were submitted for processing separately. The first report completes without any issues. The second report results in error with the following message:

    In the process monitor detail > view log/trace page, the xml file is accessible so the file was generated to a valid directory.
    The weird thing is I was able to run this report without any issues few weeks ago although another user also ran into same error. The PeopleCode step that has been identified is essentially same in the two reports. I checked the app server and the directory does exist as well as the xml files for the two reports. The problem does not occur in test environment, just in production. Any help would be appreciated.

    We encounter the same problem. Did you get the answer for this issue? Thanks in advance.

    How to connect our program with crystal report?

    I have never used crystal report. I have created a stand-alone application in java 6 with SQL server 2000 as backend. Its a simple application that maintains records of employees in an organization. I want to use crystal report for report generation. I have crystal report 9 on my system. I have searched a lot on google but could not find any relevant help. Can u provide help in this regard or send me links from where i could get any lead.
    I am not using any IDE as such now. Is it actually needed?
    Any help in this regard would be highly appreciated.

  • How to integrate crystal report 9 with java

    hi friends,
    I have installed the crystal report and J-Integra also.
    but I am not able to find the crystl32.ocx in my c:\windows\system32 folder .
    So I downloaded it separately and use the J-Integra's com2java convertor to generate crystal package.
    Then as per manual I compiled that package and created crystal.jar file.
    And while try this setting with a sample code.
    package javaapplication10;
    public class CrystalClient {
      private static final String CONNECT_STRING = "DSN=test";
      private static final String REPORT_FILE_NAME = "d:\\arp\\cryrpt1.rpt";
      private static final String SQL_QUERY = "select * from tab1";
      private static final String PRINT_FILE = "d:\\arp\\YourNewReport.doc";
      public static void main(String args[]) throws Exception{
        try {
          crystal.CrystalReport report = new crystal.CrystalReport();
          report.aboutBox(); // Lets see if it was loaded properly
          report.setConnect(CONNECT_STRING);
          report.setReportFileName(REPORT_FILE_NAME);
          report.setSQLQuery(SQL_QUERY);
          report.setPrinterCopies((short) 1);
          report.setPrinterCollation(crystal.PrinterCollationConstants.crptDefault);
          report.setDestination(crystal.DestinationConstants.crptToFile);
          report.setPrintFileName(PRINT_FILE);
          report.setPrintFileType(crystal.PrintFileTypeConstants.crptWinWord); // Change output type if necessary
          report.printReport();
        } finally {
          com.linar.jintegra.Cleaner.releaseAll();
    }During compilation no error found.
    But during runtime it says that
    init:
    deps-jar:
    compile-single:
    run-single:
