Repository Data Model

Does anybody have repository data model available? Or/and did anybody reverse engineer the core hierarchy tables.
thank you
jiri

Thank you Philip,
We are doing reports in TOAD and Cognos 8.
So far so good. One of the pieces of information I need out of the Oracle Data Modeler reporting schema is the columns in foreign keys. Foreign keys are not usually enforced in datamarts but data analysts must know what the foreign keys are to join tables.
There is a notation in Relational Model Elements.pdf "Foreign keys of DMR_CONSTR_INDEX_COLUMNS table are not valid since one column is used to refer to objects in two different tables"
This begs the question: Is there a valid foreign key in DMRS_CONSTR_INDEX_COLUMNS to join it to DMRS_FOREIGNKEYS or is the model documented incorrectly?
The repository adds tremendous value to Data Modeler.

    SQL Data Modeler (SDM) reporting repository data model
    I exported several models to reporting schema and reviewed the reports. So far so good. The reports I need are not included so I'm creating my own. I imported the reporting schema to SDM to explore the model and see how to join the tables. Has anyone already done this exercise and produced a data model for the reporting schema with primary keys, foreign keys and relationships? It would save me a pile of work if I could download the model and import it to SDM?

  • OBIEE Best Practice Data Model/Repository Design for Objectives/Targets

    Hello World!
    We are faced with a design question that has become somewhat difficult and we need some help. We want to be able to compare side-by-side actual measures with their corresponding objectives/targets. Sounds simple. But, our objectives are static (not able to be aggregated) with multi-dimensionality and multi-levels. We need some best practice tips on how to design our data model and repository properly so that we can see the objective/target for a measure regardless of the dimensions that are used in the criteria and regardless of the level.
    Here is some more details:

    - Right now we have quarterly objectives set using 3 different dimensions. So, if an author were to add one or more (or zero) dimensions to their criteria for a given measure they could get back a different objective. They could add Dimension1 and get 99%. They could add Dimension1 and Dimension2 and get 98%. They could add all three dimensions and get 97%. They could add zero dimensions (highest grain) and get 99%. Using our existing structure if we were to add a new dimension to the mix the possible combinations would grow dramatically. (Not flexible)
    - We would like our final solution to be flexible enough so that we could view objectives with altogether different dimensions and possibly get different objectives.
    - We currently have 3 fact tables with 3+ conformed dimension tables and a few unique dimension tables.
    Could anyone share a similar situation where you have implemented a data model structure with the proper repository joins to handle showing side-by-side objectives/targets where the objectives were static and could be displayed at differing levels with flexible dimensions as described?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    hi..yes this suggestion is nice...first configure the sensors(activity or variable) ..then configure the sensor action as a JMS Topic which will in turn insert the data into a DB..Or when u configure the sensor action as a DB..then the data goes to Oracle Reports schema..if there is any chance of altering the DB..i mean if there is any chance by changing config files so that the data doesnt go to that Reports schema and goes to a custom schema created by any User....i dont know if it can b done...my problem is wen i m configuring the jms Topic for sensor actions..i see blank data coming..for sm reason or the other the data is not getting posted ...i have used a esb ..a routing service based on the schema which i am monitoring...can any1 help?

  • SQL Developer Data Modeler Repository

    Hi,
    I would like to know how to save all my applications into the Data Modeler Repository instead of doing it piece by piece and having to create a dmd file for every single application I imported into Data Modeler.
    In Oracle Designer, everything is in the repository and I can run reports against the tables and views belonging to that repository. So, I can produce a pdf documentation out of it. Can we do the same with Data Modeler?
    Thank you!

    Hello Anonymous,
    I'll start with your first comment - "I would like to know how to save all my applications into the Data Modeler Repository ". The Repository is just for reporting purposes, as Dimitar points outs, so saving all your applications in the Data Modeler is merely File - Save. This action saves the current design (with all its models) to the file system. The main premise here is that the Data Modeler is a file based product and all models and designs are saved locally to the file system. This is a positive move for many customers who are now building applications in Java or using any of the application development environments that work with a variety of files. They are taking all the artifacts and placing them under version control using open source versing tools like Subversion. Using the Data Modeler, they can do the same.
    For reporting you have a choice, one of which has also been explained. The action of creating a schema before you export the design is a one off step. Following on from this you can export new versions of the model to the same repository. The reason we did this was that many of the Designer audience wanted to write and run their own reports. So here you have a set of tables that you can write whatever SQL query you want to use.
    The other reporting option is to use the integrated reports in the product and you do not have to export the design or open another product or write SQL.
    Have you used the Design Rules in the Data Modeler? These are a set of "reports" for quality assurance purposes. There are many of these reports at all levels of the design which verify that your model is defined according to a set of database rules and general business rules and if you like, you can add your own rules.
    I attended ODTUG last week in LA and was really pleased to listen to a number of talks by well seasoned Designer users who have successfully transitioned to the Data Modeler and who had many positive experiences.
    Yes, the tools are different - but the one tool was not designed to replace the other - Data Modeler does none of the application design and generation that Designer does, those customers who have wanted to replace one tool (people are moving to the data Modeler from different tools) with the Data Modeler, have reported to me that they are pleased with the change.

  • SQL Developer Data Modeler, Repository or file based?

    As announced, in a next release of SQL Developer Data Modeler it wil be repository based. Ok that is nice. But what does it mean for the current possibility to store your work in files. Will the possibility to store in files be supported in new releases when also a Repository is available?

    Will the possibility to store in files be supported in new releases we are not going to remove that run and use aspect of the tool.

    Hi all,
    Trying to make use of Data Modeler Reports from within SQL Dev EA 2.1, but every time I try to connect to a DB I get the following message "Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler reporting repository required."
    Any idea how to go about sorting this out?
    Thanks

    Hi i have the Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler version 2.0.0 installed.
    When i try to export one diagram to the reporting schema, i get the following error : "Error occurred while exporting to Reporting Schema.See the log file for details".
    The log file has no errors.
    The repository owner is DBA.
    The connection is ok.
    Can you help me?
    Thanks in advance

  • Data Modeler goes to Oracle Database Repository ?

    Hi Philip,
    Thank you very much for your quick answer. Hope that this forum is the correct one right now.
    To us it seems to be inpossible to use the data modeller v3.1 with SVN.
    The recent designer-toolbox hasn't been updated by Oracle since 2007.
    That's why we have created various interfaces and workarounds of our own:
    A cg-refcode-interface with multilingualism, a table- and module-api, a hyperion application
    to generate ddl-statements from case-repository (using user-extension for the new features of v10g).
    These interfaces would not be possible with XML structure and would be discarded.
    Central data modeling is a strategic approach for our company (financial) and has been
    classified with risk class 1.
    Because of this fact, I'd like to ask again:
    Is there a timetable for converting Oracle's Data Modeler from XML structure to database?
    By the way: This was promissed by Mrs Sue Harper in 2007.
    Regards,
    Reinhard

    Hi Reinhard,
    To us it seems to be inpossible to use the data modeller v3.1 with SVN. Why is that? Is it forbidden to use SVN in your company or you have other reasons.
    Is there a timetable for converting Oracle's Data Modeler from XML structure to database? Not for functional repository. We have reporting repository and our target is all information to be there. You can have history of your designs (snapshot at specific time) in reporting repository and then you can run your tools against it.
    That's for the moment. I'm not going to make other promises.

  • How can I restore a deleted directory in Subversion Repository to use Data Modeler?

    Hello,
    i search a solution to restore a deleted Directory in Subversion Repository. But i can't find a button, menu item or documentation.
    I'm on WIN7 and use Data Modeler 4.0.3.853 and Developer 4.0.3.16.84.
    Thanks for your help,
    Kathrin

    Hi Philip,
    thanks for your help. I know this solution on the command line. But ... i have to teach my co-workers to use data modeler, developer and Subversion. They have only these Software on their pc's and i hope for a uncomplicated solution directly in data modeler, because they are a menu item, which to click open the window. But you can't do anything.
    The Folder "WoP" was deleted directly under root. My idea was as follows:
    1. I use "Show log" to find the right revision.
    2. I checked out the whole repository "Schulung" for the right revision.
    3. Into my workind copy folder are "WoP" on the right revision (235).
    4. I create a new folder "WoP" on "Schulung" and checkout it
    5. I open the WoP.dmd and save it on checked out folder "WoP" to add version control.
    Handicap: Subversion recognize "WoP" as "NEW" not as "RESTORE"
    But i don't use the comand line for svn respectively i haven't to teach my data modeler user in command line svn.
    Do you evaluate other problems or handicaps for "my way"?
    Do you know if will there be more user-friendly option in the Data Modeler in the future?
    Thanks and greets,
    Kathrin

  • Not able to save a newly created Data Model in BI Publisher.

    Hello everyone,
    I was trying to create a new Report (my very first report) in BI Publisher. I created a new Data Model and a Data Set. But I am not able to save the Data Model and thus not able to proceed to the report. There's no error shown. Same happens with reports too.
    Kindly provide me with a solution.

    You should have a group called 'XMLP_ADMIN' in your repository and administrator or the user you are using should be part of that group. Look into paint.rpd for all these.

  • Basic questions on data modeling

    Hi experts,
    I have some basic questions regarding data modeling within MDM. I understand the available table types and the concept of lookup fields. I know that the MDM data modeling concept is different to the relational concept. But having a strong database background my first step was to design a relational data model which I would like to transfer to a MDM repository. Unfortunately I didn't found good information material on this. So here are some questions maybe you can help me:
    1) Is it the right approach to model n:m relationships with multivalued lookup fields? E.g. main table Users with lookup field from subtable SapAccounts (a user can have accounts in different SAP systems, that means more than one account).
    2) Has a record always be unique in MDM repositories (e.g. should we use Auto ID's in every table or do we have to mark a combination of fields as unique)? Is a composite key of 2 or more fields represented with marking these fields as unique?
    3) The concept of relationships in MDM is only based on relationships between single records (not valid for all records in a table)? Is it necessary to define all relationships similar to the relational data model in MDM? Is there something similar to referential integrity in MDM?
    4) Is it possible to change the main table to a sub table later on if we realize that it has also to be used as a lookup table for another table (when extending the data model) or do we have to create a new repository from scratch?
    Thank you for your answers.
    Regards, bd

    Yes you are correct. It is almost difficult to map relational database to mdm one. But again MDM is not 'just' a database. It holds much more 'master' information as compared to any relational db.
    1) Is it the right approach to model n:m relationships with multivalued lookup fields? E.g. main table Users with lookup field from subtable SapAccounts (a user can have accounts in different SAP systems, that means more than one account).
    Yes Here you need to use MV look up tables or can also try Qualifier tables if it gets more complex
    2) Has a record always be unique in MDM repositories (e.g. should we use Auto ID's in every table or do we have to mark a combination of fields as unique)? Is a composite key of 2 or more fields represented with marking these fields as unique?
    Concept of uniqueness differs here that you also have something called Display Fields (DF). A combination of DF can also be treated as Unique one. For instance while importing records if you select these DF as a combination, you will eliminate any possible of duplicates based on this combination. Auto Id is one of the ways to have a unique id once record is within MDM. While you use UF or DF to eliminate any possible duplicates at import level
    3) The concept of relationships in MDM is only based on relationships between single records (not valid for all records in a table)? Is it necessary to define all relationships similar to the relational data model in MDM? Is there something similar to referential integrity in MDM?
    Hmm... good one. Referencial Integrity. What I assume you are talking is that if you have relationships between tables then removing a record will not be possible as it is a foreign key for some record. Here MDM does not allow that. As Relationships within MDM are physical and not conceptual. For instance material can have components. Now if material does not exist then any relationship to components is not worthwile to maintain. Hence relationshsip is eliminated.  While in relational model relationships are more conceptual. Hence with MDM usage of lookups and main table you do not need to maintain these kind of relationships on your own.
    4) Is it possible to change the main table to a sub table later on if we realize that it has also to be used as a lookup table for another table (when extending the data model) or do we have to create a new repository from scratch?
    No. It is not possible to convert main table. There is only one main table and it cannot be changed.
    I went for the same option but it did not work. What I suggest is to look up your legacy system one by one and see what fields in general can be classified as Master, Reference, Transactional - You will start getting answers immediately.

    Hello,
    I was used Data modeler 3.0.x on the same machine with no problems (use SVN+3 active users , atc...)
    When I installed version 3.1.0.700 and model migration I have problem with stability of program
    With any action, java freeze after a few minutes of using application (no response, 100% core CPU, memory allocation stable).
    Freeze was initiated with actions such as import model, commit into repository, working with application (edit table metadata and other action).
    Do you anybody have same problem ? Any solution ?
    Applikaction use standard lion JDK (installation no con taints packaged JDK).
    Thank you

    Hello,
    I don't have such behavior.
    Did you try to run fresh installation of Data Modeler without migrating from previous version?

    Friends,
    I am trying to import entities into into SQL Developer Data Modeler from Oracle Designer 10.1.2.3.

    File --> Import --> Oracle Designer Model --> Select database connection --> Select work area --> select application system --> select one entity --> Click finish --> Import starts
    During the import process I see an alert dialog box with the message:

    Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide.

    No this helps a lot. It's not strange. Firstly, in a versioned repository you should see Private Workareas and Shared workareas, so your workarea may be in either of these. It won't be in the Global Shared Workarea, as this only for non-versioned repositories. (I like to open the RON by selecting the full Repository, that way I can see the private and shared worlareas and the configuration and containers all in the same tree.
    Now your workarea is defined by a set of rules, so when you expand the workarea in the RON, and select the object, then that's the workarea and object you'll see in the import dialog in the Data Modeler. So if you check it out and check it back in, and can't see it in the RON, then the rule is not seeing this object. (Did you refresh the workarea in the RON?) If you can't see it in the RON, you can't see it in the Data Modeler. If you're working in a versioned repository, you need to work in the specific work area, i.e V27 and this is what you need to select in the Data Modeler.
    It looks like you are selecting the wrong workarea in the Data Modeler.

  • Invalid Name Pattern in SQL Developer Data Modeler

    I am using Data Modeler version 3.3.0.747, I have exported a couple of data models (logical and physical) to an Oracle 11.2.0.3 database. I used the Reporting_Schema_Permissions.sql file to define the ID that owns the repository. Each data model that I exported returned the successful export message.
    However when I use Oracle Data Modeler and connect (as a different user) to the repository to generate a report on one of the diagrams I immediately get an error returned. The error is (from the log file in datamodeler\log\datamodeler.log):
    2013-04-19 08:36:12,233 [Thread-18] ERROR ReportsGenerationDialog - Generating report from Reporting Schema exception - invalid name pattern: username.OBJECTS_LIST
    Where username is the name of the ID being used to generate the report (not the repository owner ID).
    I have created public synonyms on the repository tables and views (though I must have missed where that was a requirement) so the repository objects can be seen by other users.
    Has anyone encountered this and if so how did you resolve it. I have searched the web (and the Oracle forums) and so far had no hits on this issue. That seems to indicate that there is something I must have missed in the setup or such.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    I think you didn't grant EXECUTE to package and types. Here is full working script:
    DECLARE
    CURSOR cur IS SELECT table_name, owner FROM all_tables WHERE owner='<owner>';
    BEGIN
    FOR rec IN cur LOOP
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'GRANT SELECT ON '||'<owner>'||'.'||rec.table_name||' to '||'<another_user>';
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'CREATE SYNONYM '||'<another_user>'||'.'||rec.table_name||' FOR '||'<owner>'||'.'||rec.table_name;
    END LOOP;
    END;
    DECLARE
    CURSOR cur IS SELECT view_name FROM all_views WHERE owner='<owner>';
    BEGIN
    FOR rec IN cur LOOP
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'GRANT SELECT ON '||'<owner>'||'.'||rec.view_name||' to '||'<another_user>';
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'CREATE SYNONYM '||'<another_user>'||'.'||rec.view_name||' FOR '||'<owner>'||'.'||rec.view_name;
    END LOOP;
    END;
    DECLARE
    CURSOR cur IS SELECT type_name FROM all_types WHERE owner='<owner>';
    BEGIN
    FOR rec IN cur LOOP
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'GRANT EXECUTE ON '||'<owner>'||'.'||rec.type_name||' to '||'<another_user>';
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'CREATE SYNONYM '||'<another_user>'||'.'||rec.type_name||' FOR '||'<owner>'||'.'||rec.type_name;
    END LOOP;
    END;
    GRANT EXECUTE ON <owner>.pkg_osdm_utils to <another_user>;
    CREATE SYNONYM <another_user>.pkg_osdm_utils FOR <owner>.pkg_osdm_utils;
    There is no document for reporting repository install process. If you are exporting design for first time, the repository is automatically created for you.
    When you get new version of DM you can
    1. Use new repository
    2. Upgrade existing one. If so, the simplest variant is to run /datamodeler/reports/DMRS_Upgrade_Script_<latest_vesrion>. Eventually compile single stored procedure.
    Another variant for upgrade is with running osddm_upgr.sql, but there is some error, which is going to be fixed in the next release.
