Reputation Sync

Hello Forum users,
We have been working on a project to sync Forum reputation with Community reputation. I will break down what this project entails.
Single Sign On
What is changing?
When this goes live, you will be able to log into the Forums, navigate to the Community, and will be automatically logged in. You will also be able to log into the Community, navigate to the Forums, select “Sign On”, and will be automatically logged in.
How will this benefit you?
There will be no more hassle of logging in a second time. If you log into one environment, you are automatically logged into the other.
*** When Single Sign On goes live, it is important to know there will not be a Single Sign Off feature yet. So please be sure to log out of both environments if you are using a public computer. This Single Sign Off feature has recently been developed but is currently being tested. It will be pushed live after Single Sign On with the remainder of the Reputation Sync project.
New Ranking Icon
What is changing?
Unless you are a Knight, the current ranking icon is defined by three boxes explained by the breakdown below. As activity levels increase, the boxes deepen in shade.
These shade differences result in many different, unintuitive combinations.
The new ranking icon will only represent contributions. Today only these contributions are what determine your title (Trusted Enthusiast, Proven Zealot, etc.). The major milestones of reaching Active Participant, Trusted Enthusiast, Proven Zealot, and Knight of NI will remain the same, and we are also adding a few new titles to encourage participation and collaboration in the NI Forums and Community.
What counts as a “contribution”? Today only posts, ideas, and idea comments count as a contribution. You are not receiving credit for any contributions in the NI Community. Going forward with the reputation sync, “contributions” will include the following and will all be weighted equally as 1:
Forums: Posts, Ideas, Idea comments, FAQ (in the future)
Community: Documents, Blog posts, Discussions, Comments, Polls
We are investigating other ways to reward users for reaching milestones regarding content such as kudos, tags, accepted solutions, etc. As mentioned here, badges are also being considered.
How will this benefit you?
The new ranking icon is easier to understand and is more intuitive. A new box is filled in as you contribute more. This will help you better visually identify who is most active in the Forums/Community. You will also be rewarded more often with new titles to encourage participation. By taking Community activity into account now, you can reach these milestones more quickly. Lastly, the new ranking icon provides an easier way of identifying member activity without knowing what the various ranking titles mean (ex: Proven Zealot, Contributor, etc).
New Profiles
What is changing?
Once the Forum and Community reputations have been combined, each of the profiles will be slightly altered. The current Community profile does not show a ranking icon or title. When Reputation Sync is pushed live, the same ranking icon and title will appear in both the Forums and the Community. There will also be a supplementary breakdown of Community activity in the Forum profile and Forum activity in Community profile. Below are tentative mock ups of the future profile pages.
How will this benefit you?
You’ll be able to view all metrics that contribute to your reputation from both your Forum and Community profiles. You will also have a consistent ranking icon and title displayed in both places.
Alias Alterations
What’s changing?
As you can see below, your alias in the Forums can contain a space, but in the Community that space is removed.
Because our Community cannot handle spaces and because a space is considered a universal work break which doesn't work in "keys" that well, spaces will no longer be recognized in aliases. Affected users will be contacted and given the opportunity to alter their alias in their NI.com profile by a certain deadline. If the alias has not been altered by that deadline, by default, aliases containing a space will be replaced with an underscore “_”. So “Steve Chandler” will be automatically changed to “Steve_Chandler”.
NOTE: If an alias does need to be altered, we will give you the opportunity to create a unique alias with no spaces. If aliases with spaces still remain, National Instruments will automatically alter the alias and you will be informed of the change.
How will this benefit you?
In order to have one streamlined reputation across the Forums and Community, this change must take place. Removing the space, replacing with an underscore, or changing the alias completely will allow you to be known as the same person, with the same alias, in both environments.
How will this sync take place initially and in the future?
Upon Go-live, an initial push of all activity to date will populate both profiles. No one will be demoted in ranking icon or title. If anything, active users in the Community may be promoted.
In the Forums
Contribution points from Forum activity will update in the Forum profile immediately
Contribution points from Community activity will update in frequent intervals
Community activity breakdown within the Forum profile will update when user logs back in
In the Community
Contribution points from Community activity will update in the Community profile immediately
Contribution points from Forum activity will update once the user logs back in
Forum activity breakdown within the Community profile will update when user logs back in

  • Error -50 & -69 When trying to sync music Ipod Classic 160gb

    Hi everybody,
I recently installed an x64 version of Windows 7 Ultimate. I have an Ipod Classic 160gb (late 2009), and i am trying to sync it to my itunes library. However, everytime i do so, it will copy across a few songs (a different number everytime, no more than 500 though) my Itunes freezes up (as well as the ipod). After a while, once it "comes back to life" i get either "Itunes cannot copy {Song Name} to {Ipod Name} Ipod. An unknown Error Occurred (-50)." or "Itunes cannot copy {Song Name} to {Ipod Name} Ipod. An unknown Error Occurred (-69)".
Here is what i have tried:
Enable Disc Use - No Luck
Uninstall / Reinstall Itunes + Rebuild of Library - No Luck
Uninstall Itunes, reinstall + Rebuild Library on Previous version (9.2) of Itunes - No Luck
Kill APSDaemon.exe While synching - No Luck
KIll all other Apple Services + Processes - No Luck
    Uninstall Antivirus - No Luck
    Reformat Ipod - No Luck
Create a Virtual x32 environment of Windows 7, and recreate my library using the latest Itunes - No Luck
Virtualize a Mac environment, and try on there - MAC OSX doesn't allow virtualization on a Windows "Base" (what a piece of ****) - SO, no luck
Media Monkey Transfer - freezes up like a dead body, then just crashes.
Manually transfer - Work sometimes, doesn't work otherimes. Seems to be Random.
I know you are all going to say "oh, the song it get stuck on is corrupt". Well, it isn't. The song plays fine in Itunes if i go to investigate. When i go to my music "source" it is an actuall file, with an actual file size. I can also play it with VLC media player as well.
Sync with my Dad's IMAC - Success. My Dad has 5.5gb of music (more than 500 songs). Although Ipod did get seem to get stuck on a couple of songs, it succesfully sync'ed
Use Sharepod - Success (although, i have 2940 folders, and sharepod will only allow me to transfer one folder at a time) - So, No Luck
I know the Ipod is fine because if i Sync via MAC or Sharepod, it will play music fine. Also, before the installation of the x64, it sync'd fine. It would be silly that an Ipod dies because i change my Windows Installation.
Another thing, while in the act of Synching, the IPOD screen displays "Synchronising", then, it will just go to "Connected". On the MAC it stayed as "Synchronising" the entire time.
Basically, i am at my wits end. I have tried everything i can think of.  I now have a very expensive paper weight, which is ******** me to tears.
If anybody has any solutions, or ideas, i would love to hear them.
    Thanks,
    Lachlan

You seem to have tried everything, and you say it's syncing fine on your Dad's iMac, so I assume, you have also  done a Disk Diagnostic from an earlier post by tt2 and conclude that your iPod Hardisk is good.
You don't have to use it as a heavy paperweight, the problem is only using your Windows 7 machine for syncing.
In your troubleshooting steps, did you try to use another High-Speed USB 2.0 port, USB controller resource are very scarce, so if you use other USB devices, while syncing your iPod, it may just freeze.
Windows have a bad reputation for device conflict, so better don't connect other  USB devices, while syncing, better sync it while disconnected from Internet, stop antivirus just before you go to bed.
    Have a nice day!

  • Ipod 4g os 4.3 crashes itunes (latest) at every sync

every time i start to sync my ipod 4g 32gb with latest firmware and itunes it crashes (no error message, just hangs) have to kill itunes with the task manager, have no idea how to fix it. all on my ipod is perfectly legal, not tinkered in any way. Latest Win7 Pc is running smoothly with zone alarm firewall and latest virus scan.
this kind of error is what apple stuff is not famous for,
but as long as the error prevails i will do my best to throw dirt on the ipod 4g and apples reputation.

My ITouch crashed while updating firmware to 4.3.1. I can find no help anywhere from Apple. This company are a shambles. If anyone reads this before buying anything Apple I suggest you find a more stable alternative where you can get help with any problems you might encounter.
If any one from Apple should be bothered to read this, how do I recover my ITouch after it crashed during a firmware update???????

  • My computer was stolen. How do I sync my ipod touch with my new computer without wiping all the music

My laptop was stolen and now when I try to sync my music it wants to wipe my ipod touch 5th generation. How do I get around this ?

There are quite a few third party apps that will copy media from the ipod to the computer. Try searching the cnet downloads site or other reputable sites.
    Good luck!

  • Ipad Disabled, I know my password, never sync'd it to itunes, wont connect to itunes...

Title technically explains everything but here is the story....
Some idiot at work tried to guess my password on my iPad; he tried enough times that it disabled it.
I have never sync'd my iPad to iTunes.
    I DO know my password.
I installed iTunes on my computer for the first time and now my iTunes wont recognize my iPad.
Keeps claiming that I need to enter the password to unlock it....
Little hard to enter the password to unlock it when it does not give me the option to enter a password to unlock it.
Please tell me that in 24 hours it will allow me to enter my password and unlock itself.....
Or there is someway to bypass the disable to unlock this machine....
Please do not tell me Apple wasted millions of dollars reinventing the same device for the last ten years and put a simple task involving recovery issues without complete factory restore on the back burner....
    In before....
You are going to have factory restore it....
You should have sync'd it to an computer via iTunes
You should have purchased a tablet from a reputable company.....

    Recovery Mode
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
    Note: Data will be lost.

  • Ipod freezes while attempting to Synce

I just got a 80GB ipod classic. It was working fine untill last night when it froze while i was syncing it. whenver i plug it into my computer (macbook pro (10.4.10), the ipod recognizes that its been plugged in and the "do not disconnect" icon appears. this is the point where the ipod freezes. the computer never responds and the ipod icon does not appear in itues or as an external drive. I then disconnect the ipod and reset it which makes is work normal again (untill i try to sync).
I had been experimenting with putting text files on the ipod and i think that might be what caused the problem. Is there a way to restore teh ipod without doing it through itunes? it seems like this would solve the
    problem.
The ipod software is version 1.2.1
    thanks in advance

this sounds like a variation of the same problem from this "locked" thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5324590
since I could not reply there I wrote a message to the support team and am copying it here to encourage others to do the same, and as a guide for the type of language and attitude that is needed to get a response to this issue. (ie calling and yelling/cursing/threatening gets you nowhere) feel free to use any portions of it you wish in your own message, as this is an issue that apple needs to address on a large scale instead of one at a time returns for units that don't perform any better.
    "Dear Apple,
My 80 Gigabyte iPod Classic is freezing during navigation in ITunes, and seems to be following the pattern of other complaints from this forum on the Apple Support Discussions page http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5324590
I just purchased the iPod new from TigerDirect.com within the last two weeks, and am very disappointed with it's glitchy behavior in iTunes. I also have a 30GB iPod Video that I'm using with ITunes with absolutely no problems whatsoever. It seems that this is a widespread problem that would be best addressed with a firmware update or a recall, as telephone tech support and apple "genius bar" employees either don't know of the problem and have no resolution. Those that are aware consider it a small and isolated occurance (either innocently or by instruction from superiors). This is a serious issue when considering the relatively large value of a new iPod, the large share Apple currently has in the portable media device market, and what I'm sure is Apple's interest in continuing to lead this market with innovation and quality. The number one complaint people have with Microsoft is instability and crashing. Please don't ignore this problem and let Apple's reputation and quality drop to their level. Apple has a responsibility to fix this issue for all affected, and to do so quickly and courteously. Please forward this message to any and all superiors that may be able to resolve this issue when dead ends are met.
    Thank You"

Has anyone found a reputable service for copy editing, cover art and formatting for Word to iBook format?

    No it wasn't.
Playlists were created to make a list of songs.
Itunes does not make album recognition easy,
How is selecting an album not easy? And as you have noted, creating hundreds of palylists and managing them is NOT easy.
As many of you know, syncing playlists is a nightmare when you have many to sort through
Which is one reason to not create hundreds of playlists.
When I get a new cd, all I want is to drag and copy it to my ipod and iphone,
Why can't you select the album and drag it to the iPod or add it to one of a few playlists and sync?
should the artist start with an x or z.
Why not go the playlists and type x or z to go right there?

  • ICloud not syncing with Outlook 2010 Calendar

First I should say that I had successfully setup iCloud with all my devices:  iP4, iPad2 and Win7 PC with Outlook 2010.  A few days ago I had to reinstall Outlook.  I re-installed iCloud via Control Panel and successfully downloaded the iCloud Calendar to Outlook.  All the devices sync with iCloud but Outlook does not.   Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Glad that romlee's fix worked for Donawat! This iCloud situation is just a fiasco if you work in Windows and use Outlook.
I had been having problems with accurate syncing ever since I downloaded the OS 5, which is obviously not meant for the iPhone 4. (Phone has been glitchy too but that is another story.)
Previously, I was on Outlook 2007 with Windows 7 home premium. While I could get things to work, I was having the same problem that others have: duplicate entries, incorrect entries, entries that just won't show up, etc. After lots of research (and many what I consider wasted hours) I was able to find a fix that worked for me.
First of all, I want to point out that one of the reasons it doesn't work well is because Apple created a file format for iCloud that does not create a .PST file (which is what Outlook uses). Apple should just be up front about this as they have severely damaged their reputation with Windows users who have iPhones, plus they are wasting a lot of people's time.
Second, unless you already have a me.com account, you can no longer create one.
Third, I came to realize that iCloud does not update its records. It just keeps adding the same things over and over again which I theorize causes the duplicates. Even if you merge the calendars, it just creates new calendar threads (the new colored dot entries in calendar lists).
My goal was to GET RID OF iCLOUD. If you want to keep using iCloud, what I did probably won't help you but please read it and see if an idea to solve your problem arises out of it.
Before I had yesterday's problem, I took the time and spent the money to upgrade Windows 7 to the Ultimate version, and then updated Office to 2010 from 2007.
After all the files downloaded and installed, I proceeded to try and make syncing with iCloud work. Foolishly, I thought it would work better if I had the newer software.
I ended up spending a total of six hours trying to figure out where my Outlook data went, why my calendar and contacts weren't showing in my personal files, and trying to get it back where it belonged. After more research and hours spent updating my data files, I was able to move things back to Outlook personal folders. What I ended up doing was this:
    1) In Outlook 2010, if syncing via iCloud, you will see personal folders and iCloud folders. Open the iCloud folders and look at all the Calendars (it just keeps creating them; there were 5 export to outlook calendars and I think 7 iCloud calendars). Find the calendar that is yours (the one you know is the most recent and has the info you are looking for).
    2) When you identify the correct calendar, open it using list view. (You can access that in Outlook 2010 via the View menu, then use the change view button). The list of dates will show up as a list in date order from oldest to newest. Review this entire list and delete all the duplicates or things you don't want to keep. Once this is done, you are ready to move the file.
    3) After you have your calendar file the way you want it, still in list view, hit control + a to select all, then press the copy to folder button. A window will open with all your files in it; select the calendar -personal folders file and click ok. Change your view to Calendar and you will see that all the items have moved over. WARNING: because of all the weirdness with iCloud, some of your recurrences and other dates may be missing. I found this happened with recurrences rather than appointments because the appointments are duplicated so many times but some other things may be missing.
at this point, it (the calendar) does not yet show up in outlook today. *You will change your data file in account settings later.*
    4) Go back to the iCloud folders and open the contacts. Select list, select all, and then copy to contacts-personal folder as with the calendar items. Check your contacts there and make sure the list has moved.
    5) Close outlook.
    6) Open iTunes with your phone connected via USB. Under info, switch everything you want to sync back to Outlook. Then close iTunes and unplug your USB connection.
    7) Find your iCloud icon under Control Panel. Select "sign out." It is not necessary to keep a copy unless it makes you feel more comfortable. If you have another backup system like Carbonite you should be okay. Of course, it never hurts to make a copy (but if you do, it takes awhile and it is not clear where it ends up).
    8) Open outlook again; go to account settings. Under data files, select Personal Folders as the default file. You will still see an iCloud archive on your list after you change it.
    9) after you do this, it  will take several minutes for Outlook to switch over to the Personal Folders data file. Be patient. After this is done, you will be able to use Outlook 2010 without the iCloud files showing up or interfering with the function of the software or syncing.
    10) Once Outlook has successfully switched files, close it again.
    11) On your iPhone, go to settings and select the iCloud menu. Turn off iCloud sync on each item you have been syncing. When it asks if you want to keep all the items that iCloud has placed there, select DELETE.
This is an act of bravery; I had no idea what would happen when I did it. However, it worked out fine because it wiped my calendar and contacts clean on the iPhone. No more duplicates. A bit scary because no more ANYTHING but when I synced the phone again, it all came back -- and no dupes.
    12) after you turn off iCloud on your phone, plug your iPhone into the USB port, turn on iTunes. After iTunes recognizes your phone, it will sync again. All your contacts and calendar items will be transferred back to your iPhone (and no duplicates!)
I am very pleased that I was able to figure this out, but disgusted at Apple's irresponsibility with claiming iCloud works with everything. It obviously doesn't and I wasted a lot of time and lost some data due to the iCloud.
In summary: This is what I did to get rid of iCloud. If you want to keep it, I don't know how helpful this will be.
Reminder: I did this in a Windows 7 Ultimate environment with Outlook 2010. I also have iTunes 10.5.2 (most recent version). Note: In Outlook 2007, 10.5.2 causes a glitch that claims iTunes can't find Outlook even if it is there.
You can repair the glitch in 2007 by closing all your programs, go to the control panel, then open the Programs menu. Find your Office 2007 program and right click. It gives you the option to repair or uninstall. Select REPAIR and then the windows installer will run. Follow the prompts and then restart. You will be able to see Outlook again from iTunes.
Hopefully, this will help others not waste time trying to make their technology function smoothly!
Thanks to the Apple community for the answers I've received.

  • Email sync with C6

Help! Some days my C6 syncs my Yahoo! email perfectly, other days it can go for several days at a time without updating the emails. Previously I would remove the mailbox and it would work well when reinstalled. Now the phone will sit for 20-plus minutes trying unsuccessfully to remove the mailbox.
I recently put a reputable virus-checker on my phone, as part of a 30-day free trial. The benefit to that is I know I haven't a virus on my phone causing these problems, the downside is I don't know if the anti-virus programme has slowed the phone down too much. I have since uninstalled the anti-virus programme, but still cannot remove or update the mailbox.
Any ideas how to make the mail flow smoothly once more?

No - the sync function syncs email account information only for the accounts selected via iTunes.
If you are accessing an IMAP account, all server stored mailboxes/messages will be kept synchronized automatically.
If a POP account, there is a selection for removing messages from the server when downloaded with the email client used on your Mac and the the iPhone's email client. You can select "Never" for the account settings on the iPhone so no messages downloaded by the iPhone will be removed from the server and will still be available when checking the account with the email client used on your MacBook but.... if you remove messages from the server when downloaded by the email client used on your MacBook, those messages will not be available for download when the iPhone's email client.
And the only way to have sent messages available on both is to CC yourself.
POP accounts are not designed to be accessed with email clients on different computers since there is no way to keep server stored mailboxes and messages synchronized with multiple email clients used on different computers as with an IMAP account.

  • Sync not working for calendar w7 outlook

In last week ipad will not sync caleandar, or at least include all outlook calendar items.
Have carried out all the suggested hard resets, reset sync, reset ipad, everything |I could find related to this on forums but similar items or events seem to have been last April (2010).
This seems to have co-incided with issue of statement on Mobile Me??
This is a basic requirement of the ipad as far as i am concerned and no help seems to be available from Apple, itunes and all Apple sites seem very slow responding and there does not seem to be any 'official' help offered.
It is an ipad 1, W7 OS, outlook 2010.

I am not a pc geek but around this time there was a MS update that kept installing on shut down, I have 13 "successful" installations of this. Seems that their are 3 versions of it and to stop repeats went to MS download centre and pickedthe non 64 bit title version, now OK. Update was
Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2538242).
No idea if this may relate to the iPad problem - which in various forms seems fairly rife ad syncing in general seems to be major problem.
This is a severe disappointment for me with first purchase of apple product which I had thought from their general reputation with the Mac was goingto be so smooth - the way MS is with W7 now generally. As I say I am just a simple user of basic functions.
Let's hope something comes up soon to re-establish Apple in my eyes, to the of my eyes maybe, at the moment would not recommend iPad to anyone.

  • Cannot Sync Unknown Error -50

OK, here is the issue as concisely as I can put it.  I have just updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 7.0.3 and updated iTunes to 11.1.2.  Today I downloaded an app from a third party site (reputable) which then opened iTunes and clicked download.  I then went to sync my iPhone only to discover I was logged into iTunes as, my Apple ID.  Unfortunatly being an early user of iTunes my iTunes and App Store login ID is not my Apple ID.  So I logged out of my Apple ID and logged back in using my usual login and password which is the same on my iPhone for iTunes and App Store.  I then received a "this iPhone cannot be Synced Unknown Error -50"  The app I downloaded appears in each login but the phone stops syncing when it reaches apps.
So should I delete the app from my purchases in my Apple ID login and try again?  I have already removed it from my Mobile Apps folder.
And can I get rid of the Apple ID account in iTunes?  I have checked purchases in this account and apart from the app I downloaded today ther's nothing in it.
Is there a way to merge the two accounts?
    I'm confused.

  • Is there a reputable place to buy a battery for a 1st gen Nano?

I have a 1st gen Nano and it constantly shows low battery/apple symbol and won't load to play. I can, however, sync it to my iTunes... My guess is that the battery needs to be replaced. Has anyone done this themselves? And where can I buy a good battery from a reputable company? I've bought batteries before online for cordless drills and phones and after 3-4 months they fail to hold a charge for any longer than 10 mins.
FYI: I didn't follow through with the replacement program because my iPod is engraved.
