Resetting numbering of markers

I was going to create chapter markers today for DVD Studio Pro after deleting some markers. When I created the new set. They started from Marker 9. I changed it to 1, the next defaulted to 10. I tried restarting the program. That did not work. Anyone know?

DVDSP keeps a record of the markers used in the file. Just because you delete them does not remove them from the records.
If it really bugs you, create a new DVDSP file, import your assets and start over.

  • How to reset numbers in real time display in Cisco Supervisor Desktop?

    Hi all,
I wonder about numbers in real time display in Cisco Supervisor Desktop. There are many statistic number for example : Call Handled, Max Talking, Avg Talking, Max Ready, Total Ready, Call abandoned, etc. Is there any way to reset those numbers back to zero? Please let me know.
    Thank you.

    Joe,
I haven't tried that, but I'm very skeptical. The CAD Agent gets stats from two places - CTIOS and RASS. RASS keeps the call log information in a SQL Desktop Engine database.
Stats derived from CTIOS reset at midnight. Obviously, restarting the RASS service has no effect on those. Call log information is being kept in a database so it seems to me that a restart of RASS should also have no effect.
I guess I will have to try for myself.

    Geoff

  • Resetting numbering in Lightroom 1.3

Is there a possibility to reset the numbering in Lightroom 1.3 when importing images from a Card or something similar. Or is that not a feature in Lightroom 1.3?

    Judith -
I am not suggesting that files not be renamed.
What I am saying is that in order to have a trusty workflow you really don't want to combine a bunch of steps into one.
My workflow is somewhat as follows:
    a) Copy files from card to hard drive. Each complete card goes into a different folder.
    b) Copy files from hard drive to cheap DVD or another hard drive "just in case". Now I don't have to worry about reusing a card.
    c) If using multiple cameras, calculate time offsets to verify that they are all in sync. Adjust time in each folder so the photos from different cameras all have the same time reference and they will 'mesh' properly together.
    d) RENAME files in each folder according to time and photographer code (the photographer code gives press agents that we work with an easy way to provide attribution without having to use an IPTC aware system... the file name says it at a glance.)
    e) Combine renamed files from different folders into a master folder.
    f) IMPORT into Lightroom. Inspect that the number of files adds up and that everything got imported correectly.
    g) Apply base IPTC to photos (in LR database) now that I can actually see them properly. The export will eventually stamp the IPTC into the final files.
    h) Backup master folder to hard drive or DVD. I now have two different backups (one before and one after renaming) and one set of renamed files that are actually referenced in LR.
I could try to combine applying IPTC, renumbering , etc into a single step while downloading the photos from the cards... but that is MUCH more error prone than just adding an extra 15 minutes and doing things one thing at a time and verifying that they are coming out correctly and make sense.

  • Reseting page number in Word RTF template for BI Publisher PDF generation

    Hi!
    Apex 4.0.2, Oracle 10.2.0.4, BIP 10.2
Bills are created based on Word RTF file with BI Publisher. Reszulting file is one big PDF file, which has many pages.
Word RTF template is grouped on BILLS.ID field with page break option. So one BILLS.ID may have one or many pages (according data).
How to create RTF template (for PDF BI Publisher generation) with reseting page numbers when grouping value change.
Page numbers are in footer in format
    curr_group_page/total_group_pages
    where:
curr_group_page is current page number in group (defined with BILLS.ID field),
total_group_pages is total page number of pages in group (defined with BILLS.ID field).
I need to reset numbering whenever BILLS.ID (group) change.
    Example:
    ID=1 (4 pages)
    1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4
    ID=2 (1 pages)
    1/1
    ID=3 (2 pages)
    1/2, 2/2
    ID=4 (3 pages)
    1/3, 2/3, 3/3
    etc.
How to achieve that kind of numbering?
    Any help appreciated.

Simple question.. Does your posting deal with an APEX issue or a BI Publisher issue? The posting you have deals with the RTF add-on for Word that builds report layouts for BI Publisher. I suggested in my response that you move it to a more relevant forum..
If you feel that me alerting you to the fact your are VIOLATING forum policy is an issue, please feel free to ask others their view.. (posting to a 3 year old closed thread, creating MULTIPLE threads for a single issue..) You do NOT seem to get the idea that posting this in the Bi Publisher support forum would probably get you a BETTER response than here.. Asking pl/sql questions here will also get people to refer your questions to the PL/Sql Support forum..
Also, here is a POSSIBLE answer from the BI Publisher Forum: http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=594805

You know, I used to think that it was awful that life was so unfair. Then I thought, wouldn't it be much worse if life were fair, and all the terrible things that happen to us come because we actually deserve them? So, now I take great comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of the universe.

  • How to maintain two sets of separate auto numbered tables?

    Hi everyone,
Here is what I'm trying to do with FrameMaker and find impossible to do:
I have to maintain two sets of different tables each starts with number 1 inside the table. So I created two paragraph tags with 'Auto Number' checked and applied to the two different tables. But the result is not what I want: the number inside one table continues from the other one, instead of 1, 2, 3, 4, ... and 1, 2, 3, 4... It is 1, 2, 3, 4...
Am I doing anything wrong here? Must be, for it doesn not work.
    Thanks for any help.

You're not doing anything wrong, just perhaps missing some of the details. FM autonumbering is a joy to work with once you've got the hang of it, and/but different from most other approaches. (and by "different", I don't just mean flexible and reliable)
Broadly speaking, I'd say you have two options:
define two styles for the numbering you use inside tables, let's say TableNumberStart and TableNumberContinue. Define autonumbering so that TableNumberStart uses <n=1> and TableNumberContinue uses <n+1>
This works because you've made the extra effort yourself.
use one style – let's say TableAnchor – to anchor each table, and another style – let's say TableNumber – for the numbering you use inside tables. Define autonumbering so that TableAnchor uses < =0>, and TableNumber uses <n+1>.
This works because you've asked FM to make the effort for you :-} TableAnchor resets the counter to zero, and TableNumber increments it as required. Note: in the definition < =0> the space before the equals sign is essential. It keeps the counter from displaying on the page.
While you're experimenting, read up on Series labels – so you can manage separate numbering for, say, tables and figures. And on Building blocks – I was so impressed the first time I managed to use numbered heading styles to reset numbering in a list …

  • Why does figure numbering re-start in each of my chapters?

For some reason, figure numbering just stopped spanning chapters in my book.
That is, the first figure in each chapter is labeled Figure 1. All chapters use same
paragraph definitions for "Figure Caption," and that paragraph definition includes
autonumbering. And when I generate an LOF file for the book, FM has no trouble
    finding them.
This is a recent development because all the figures in the book used to be
numbered correctly. I just can't figure out what changed.
My figures are built this way: start with an anchored frame,  Import>File , then
below the imported graphic frane itself, I insert a text frame and put the figure
    caption in it.
I have never fiddled with any text flows in the book -- I just use whatever
    defaultes FM gave me
As I said, this scheme used to work. Is there any way to explicitly
tell FM to use continuous numbering?
    Cheers,
    JP

    Error,
I still can't get figure numbers to continue but I did determine the following behavior.
If I set numbering of a chapter via the book file to this:
    Chapter: Continue numbering
    Page: Continue numbering
    Paragraph:Continue numbering
and then update the book file with Edit -> Update References, then heading numbering continues from the previous chapter (for example, chapter 3 starts with heading 3.6) but figure numbering restarts at 1.
If I reset numbering of a chapter via the book file like this:
    Chapter: Continue numbering
    Page: Continue numbering
    Paragraph:Restart numbering
the heading numbers immediately revert to 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 and the figure numbers remain at 1, 2, 3.
This is too frustrating. I can't spend any more time trying to figure this out so I'm going to switch to a <$chapnum>-<n+> format for figure numbers (and probably for tables too). I used to use that format at another company. At least it gives the user a clue as to what chapter the figure is in.
    Thanks for the suggestions.
    Yours,
    Michael F

  • Losing chapter markers when moving sequence into main timeline

My second problem may be solved by solving or understanding my main problem.
    Here's the situation:
When I build sequences in FCP and put in chapter markers (I know how to successfully do that when I am working only on a single sequence, so I think the basics are clear) and then drag this sequence into my main timeline I lose the chapter markers and then have to go back through and set them up again (yes they are marked by red markers along the bottom of the timeline). It seems like a nuisance that this is the way the system is set up. Am I missing something or are chapter markers really not moveable from sequence to sequence?
And this brings me to the second problem:
I export as QT into iDVD and when "Scenes" are set up there seems to be no rhyme or reason as how to navigate the chapters (this is after burning the to DVD and popping it in the DVD player). Example: I press the right button and the cursor moves down. Any ideas on what is going wrong?

Yes, I understand the distinction about where to put the chapters markers.
I do put them on the timeline in a sequence. And there they are marked. I can open them and see that they are marked as <CHAPTER>. If I then export this sequence sure enough iDVD sets up scenes to select from.
My problem is when I build start putting sequences next to each other in my main timeline/squence. I hope that's clear. It would look something like this:
    Sequence 1: Sequence 2: Sequence 3 etc.
In this case I would lose the chapter markers from seq 2 and 3. Then I have to go in and reset new chapter markers in seq 2 & 3. Of course I can do that and I have, but I was just wondering if there was a way to make them carry forward so I don't have to duplicate work.
Will post my iDVD question to that discussion forum.

  • How do I create an FSDIAG file on Linux systems?

QuestionHow do I create an FSDIAG file on Linux systems?
AnswerTo create an FSDIAG file for the Linux Security product:
Go to a working directory to which the fsdiag.tar.gz file will be created.
    Run the following command:
    # /opt/f-secure/fsav/bin/fsdiag
Note: Any existing FSDIAG file will be overwritten.
You will find the fsdiag.tar.gz file on the current working directory. Attach this file to your support request.
To create an FSDIAG file for the Internet Gatekeeper (IGK) product:
Create the diagnostic information file (diag.tar.gz) in the product install directory by running the following command:
    - IGK (Japanese 4.x): # cd /home/virusgw; make diag
    - IGK (English 4.x or English/Japanese 5.x): # cd /opt/f-secure/fsigk; make diag
Note: Any existing FSDIAG file will be overwritten.
Attach this file to your support request.
Note that you can also create the diagnostic file by using the Web UI.

An .srt is simply a plain text file with sequence numbers, time markers, and captions. You can use any text editor to make one. Follow the pattern:
    1
    00:00:00,500 --> 00:00:04,500
So it was with my formal education
    as well.
    2
    00:00:04,600 --> 00:00:08,250
Each weekday, while my father worked
    on his Sunday sermon...
    3
    00:00:08,300 --> 00:00:10,000
    I attended the school
    of the Reverend Maclean.
The first number (e.g., 00:00:00,500) in each pair indicates when the caption starts. The second number (e.g., 00:00:04,500) in each pair indicates when the caption stops.
If you're going to be captioning many videos, consider an application that merges a text editor and video preview window. Jubler (http://www.jubler.org/) is one.

  • DVDSP 4 only plays movie up to first chapter

When "I select play movie" it will only play the first chapter. I have check many times and the asset is the entire movie. I've deleted the movie re-added it and reset the chapter markers- still only plays to the first chapter. Is something corrupt possibly...
    thanks much,
    jay

Why do you have Chapter End Jumps? There's rarely a need for it. Take those out! If you need to play individual chapters use the story function instead.
It could be a corrupt stream...hard to say. What was your bitrates? Often folks crank up the bitrates on the encodes thinking more is better. DVD has a strict ceiling (9.8 mb/s) even short spikes above this will cause players to choke. Also audio can be a major issue. Always use AC3 audio with its lower bitrate. Could be the media as well.
Do some tests. Use a bitrate for DVD calculator to determine what your best bitrate should be based on the length of the program. This should always be the first step in any DVD project! Also use AC3 audio as well and another batch of GOOD media.

  • System keeps re-setting the default app to Preview for iWork files.

    Hello.
I've scoured the internet for a solution to this problem, but can't find one.  The problem applies to Numbers, Pages and Keynote, and I am putting this post in the forum for each.  I shall explain it using a Numbers file as an example.
For three or four years, I've had a file that was created in Numbers to be opened in Numbers; it's a spreadsheet that I update with every transaction of my bank account.
Until about a week ago, the file would always open in Numbers, its default application, and then the file kept opening in Preview instead of in Numbers.  I checked the 'Get Info' panel and found that its default application was Preview.  This was strange, so I changed it to Numbers.  When I opened the file the next day, it again opened in Preview, and I found again that Preview was set as its default app.  This time, I set Numbers as the default app by right-clicking on the file, selecting 'Open With', and Numbers wasn't on the list, so I went to 'Other...', and in the 'Choose Application' window, navigated to the Numbers app, selected it and activated the 'Always Open With' option.
As you would expect, the file then opens in Numbers.  However, whenever the computer has been off and I have logged in again, the default app for the file has reverted to Preview.
The only thing I can think of that might have a bearing on this problem is a recent App Store purchase.  I bought Numbers on an iWork '09 disk back in 2008/9, but about a week ago decided to uninstall the iWork apps with AppZapper and buy them from the App Store (I just like to have the App Store as the source of my apps, and I had some money to spare).  I can’t see why this would cause the problem, but the installation of these apps and the start of the problem seem to co-incide.
I wondered if the problem could be solved by re-creating my spreadsheet in a new Numbers file, so I opened Numbers, selected a blank worksheet and pasted the spreadsheet from the original file into this new one, but it made no difference: the next time I logged into my system, Preview was the default app for the new file as well.  The problem persists even with new files created in Numbers, Pages or Keynote that are unconnected with older files and after the App Store purchases.
I would be grateful for any advice the community can offer.
    Thank you.

    Hello again.
I followed your advice and created another user account, and in that one, Numbers, not Preview, was the default app for my Numbers file.  Logging back into my original account, I deleted the com.apple.LaunchServices.plist file, and for good measure, the com.apple.LaunchServices.plist.lockfile as well, and reset Numbers as the default app for my Numbers file.
I restarted the system, but found that Preview was now the default app for the file.  Perhaps the .plist file needed a second restarting of the system, so I set the default app for the file to Numbers again.  I also put Pages, Numbers and Keynote into a new folder called iWork '09, as they used to be before I replaced my shop-bought iWork disk installations with the same apps bought form the App Store.  I don't know if this made a difference.  I restarted the system and, this time, the default app was Numbers.
Pages and Keynote are also now the default apps for files created by them.
You have been very helpful and I appreciate it.  Thank you.

  • Manual Chapter Marker Insert and Edit

The dragging and dropping of chapter markers is nice feature. However, is there a way to just enter the chapter markers manually by typing them in through a window of some sort. I know where all my chapter markers generally need to go. It would go a lot faster if I could just rapidly type them in and then use drag and drop to adjust as need be. The track pad is not very well suited for large numbers of markers.
In fact, is there a way to manually edit the location of a marker so I don't have drag it around.
And if this feature doesn't exist, why not?
    Thank you

  • Advanced FM9 training, UK

Looking for advice on how to find a good training course for a small group in the Salisbury (Wiltshire) area. The course needs to cover book files, TOCs, cross referencing, PDF setup, and hopefully some Acrobat PDF finishing techniques. It would help if it was geared towards technical writing.
Are there any references or accreditations from Adobe that I should look for?
(The last course our office went on taught some bad practice in paragraph numbering - by using separate paratags to reset numbering, rather than nested numbering whare each level is reset by the one above. I would like to make sure we don't get anything similar this time.)
    Many thanks.

    Hello Ruth,
If the EDD is well-designed it does not include any specific formatting. I know I am stepping on some toes here, but in your situation I think this is a valid observation. And even those who do like the formatting capabilities in the EDD will agree that the most important aspect of the EDD is the structure. Formatting is derived from the structure and is basically a method to show the reader - who does not see any of the meta information that is hiding below the surface - what the structure really is.
This makes the formatting a crucial aspect: the reader is lost without a clear link between formatting and intended structure. If your steps are incorrectly numbered because the author was too tired or distracted to spot the incorrect application of a format tag, the user may not be able to understand a procedure anymore. Such errors are much easier to spot in a structured design, where format tags are assigned based on that structure.
So even if you are working in "unstructured" FrameMaker, you are applying structure all the time. The main difference is that this structure is largely implicit (except if all your authors work from a strict style guide that includes a full description of item ordering and nesting, i.e. structure of the content) and is not enforced by the editing environment.
In my approach, I use the EDD is solely as an explicit and enforceable definition of the structure. The formatting expresses that structure by strict rules, which the author cannot (or should not) overrule. But as the translation from the structure to the formatting in my EDDs goes exclusively via paragraph and character format tags, there is still the option to change those formats without ever opening the EDD.
Apart from making the changes in formatting easier to manage and safer to apply, this means that you can have a whole set of templates - which you probably already have - and importing formats from a different template makes everything look like that target, without changing the underlying structure.
About the matter of replacing snippets of unstructured content by structured content instead of redoing entire modules: I would have to study the options for mixing structured and unstructured content a little more to see if there might be a less painful migration path. I will get back to you about this - I am finishing a couple of projects at the moment, so I do not have the time to run the tests that are surfacing in my mind while I am typing this. I know there must be many options that I have not yet seen explored. I also know how much Structured FrameMaker offers compared to using FrameMaker as just another text editor.
    Kind regards
    Jang

  • 'PLAY MOVIE' - Starts halfway through movie! -  Please help - urgent!

My 'Prematur Ejection' issue was solved by buying an external DVD burner but I have a new problem. I have created a lovely 30 minute movie of a dinner party for a customer that has to be delivered tomorrow.
I am very pleased with the results with one exception.
When the 'PLAY MOVIE' button is pressed it takes you straight to scene 5, so the only way to view the movie from the beginning is to go to hit the Scene Selection button.
I have only a few hours to rectify this and burn again, I have since noticed that it does the same thing when the i-DVD project is opened up and tested but I don't know how to fix it.
I hope somebody out there can help me, many thanks in advance.

Possibly your iDVD or iMovie preferences have been corrupted. That happens sometimes. It is easily corrected. To do that, close iDVD and iMovie and trash the files com.apple.iDVD.plist and com.apple.iMovie.plist found in User (the house icon)/Library/Preferences. Then do a permissions repair using the Utilities/Disk Utility app on your Mac. Then relaunch iDVD and iMovie. Those programs will create new .plist files to replace the ones you deleted.
If that doesn't cure the problem, you probably will need to go back to your iMovie project and reset your chapter markers, then reimport your movie into iDVD.
    Good luck with this.

  • Problem: Default icons don't match default apps.

In the past, when a file type was set to be opened by an app, it would have that app's file type icon. For example .mov would have the Quicktime Player file icon, and .mkv would have VLC player file icon and .avi would have the MPlayer file icon.
Now in Mavericks, I have noticed that file types have whatever icons they have. Changing the default app to open them doesn't change their icon.
This is mostly a cosmetic issue but I used to appreciate being able to see at a glance what I was getting into when double-clicking a file that had the file icon for MS Office or TextWrangler or Quicktime Player, etc. Now if it has a file icon associated with... whatever app... it can open in something else. So I have to pause, look at the extension then try to remember which app will open.
Again, like I said, not a tremendous issue but something that happens sufficiently frequently that I miss the old way...
I am wondering if it's a setting I don't know about, or that I messed something up?
I did a clean install to Mavericks because of persistent bugs since the upgrade and that seemed to clear up the bigger functionality issues... so I don't think it's a holdover from my old installs.
I would appreciate any advice on the matter.
    Thanks.

The only thing I can think of is that you might have made an error when you added your chapter markers in FCE. There is a specific procedure that you must follow. You might try resetting your chapter markers again and see if that cures the problem.
