Restart directory server

Hi,
I just un-pluged my solaris host. When I start it again. I found that
LDAP directory server is not running anymore. How can I start it up
again?
Since if i run :
../iasdeploy removeapp abc
../iascontrol stop
it will have error like
Could not connect to LDAP server on wee.host.com port 389...retrying
Any other server i need to restart mannally besides LDAP server? kxs?
kas? kcs?
thanks

Did you restart the admin server (./start-admin) and the ldap server (./start-slapd) ?
Cheers,
Vasanth

• Backend suffix purges when Directory Server is restarted

I have Directory Server 5.2P4 running on a solaris 10 machine. There is a Tivoli Access Manager (TAM) installed and uses Directory to store its Policies/Access related data. TAM needs a root suffix secAuthority=Default to be present in directory where-in it stores its data.
I created a root suffix secAuthority=Default and named its backend database as TAM (NOT 'Default' since it gets purged when Directory is restarted). However when I restarted the Directory, the root suffix still gets deleted. There is no data in it just the suffix (secAuthority=Default).
Suggestions?
-Thanks

I got a resolution to this. I was creating the suffix with 'Use Defaults' option rather than 'Use custom' option. Once I used custom option, the suffix was created properly and retained when Directory was re-started.
So for some reason 'Use Defaults' option does not go well with the Directory when creating a suffix of type secAuthority=Default. The 'Default' name of the backend is the problem area. secAuthority=xyz works great. But TAM expects secAuthority=Default hence the 'Use Custom' option needed.

• Nodemanager does not restart managed server after Linux OS reboot

Running Linux 2.6.18, Sun JDK 1.6.0_14, and WebLogic 10.3, we have a correctly functioning nodemanager watching a single managed server. If I kill -9 the managed server, the nodemanager fires up a new one immediately. If, however, we reboot the box, the nodemanager will start cleanly and will not start the managed server. It appears to believe the node should remain down and reports its status as UNKNOWN.
I've seen where this is a known problem on Windows boxes, easily gotten around by supplying the -Xrs parameter to the startup parms for the managed server. (Section 5 of the general nodemanager config doc.) I don't see, however, where there's an equally clean solution for Linux.
Things I've tried:
+ When I set the server to DEBUG, it shows zero sign of receiving a shutdown signal. It's dumping loads of cluster messages, etc, into the log and then suddenly the log just ends so it's dying via kill -9. If the nodemanager is still running at that time, it might try to restart the managed server and log it somewhere as permanently failed.
+ The nodemanager only logs to INFO level, and logs no evidence of deciding to leave the node down. (DEBUG is an invalid LogLevel, so that's all I've got.)
+ A restart signal sent from our AdminServer (on another Linux box) successfully starts the managed node through the nodemanager. Nothing unusual occurs or is logged.
Things I'm curious about:
+ Is there some way to see in what state the nodemanager believes the managed server to be?
+ Is there some value in some doc somewhere that might say the server should not be restarted?
+ Is there not a log of NodeManager client actions? I don't see anything in domain.log or AdminServer.log except when the NM is down.
Thanks,
Kevin

can you set NativeVersionEnabled to true. We have faced this in windows which was fixed by changing this property. Some notes from that issue:
Faced this interesting issue in Windows 2008 environment. Managed Servers were started by node manager and it was expected that on a system restart after a crash, the node manager will restore the state of the managed servers to the state it was before the crash. Node Manger was configured to run as a windows service. Hence it started after the server restart. But the individual managed servers were not getting started. Interestingly, for the managed servers started by the node manager there were no <Managed_Server_Name>.lck file in the <Server>/data/NodeManger folder.
To fix this always set the following properties in the nodemanager.properties on the node maager home directory.
CrashRecoveryEnabled=true /* This by default is set to false. This needs to be turned for auto restart after crash to work */
NativeVersionEnabled=true /* This is by default set to true and it should be set as such. If you turn this off on platforms for which weblogic provide native JNI libraries ( e.g. as in Windows 2008) then this wont create the .lck file and hence node manager wont restart the managed server after the crash.
Note: As per official documentation .lck files are required for weblogic node managers to do auto restart after system crash
From Official documentation:
After the system is restarted, Node Manager checks each managed domain specified in the nodemanager.domains file to determine if there are any server instances that were not cleanly shutdown. This is determined by the presence of any lock files which are created by Node Manager when a WebLogic Server process is created. This lock file contains the process identifier for WebLogic Server startup script. If the lock file exists, but the process ID is not running, Node Manager will attempt to automatically restart the server.
If the process is running, Node Manager performs an additional check to access the management servlet running in the process to verify that the process corresponding to the process ID is a WebLogic Server instance.

• How do I bind to directory server with SSL and authentication?

I'm running Lion Server 10.7.3, Open Directory master. In Open Directory/Settings/LDAP, I've checked the box to Enable SSL and selected a (self-signed) certificate. In Policies/Binding, I've checked the box to Enable Authenticated Directory Binding.
Testing with a client computer on which Snow Leopard has been freshly installed and fully updated, I went to System Prefs/Accounts to bind to the new directory server. The good news is, the binding was successful, and when the client initiates an AFP connection with the server, it uses Kerberos, creating a ticket as expected. (Which doesn't work with Lion clients, alas, but that's a seperate matter.)
Here are the problems:
1) It looks like the binding did not use SSL. By which I mean that when I opened Directory Utility and examined the LDAPv3 entry, the SSL checkbox was not checked. (If I then check the box, everything looks fine until I restart the client, after which I have a red dot. So I'm guessing that checking the box does nothing until after restart, and that it breaks the binding.)
2) I was never prompted to authenticate for the directory binding.
So I get that literally I'm *enabling* SSL and Authenticated Directory Binding, but it seems like the defaults are to bind without SSL or authentication, and there's no obvious-to-me way to force the binding to use those things. How do I do that?
What I'd really like to do is *require* SSL and Authenticated Directory Binding. I want this because my belief (correct me if I'm wrong) is that if authentication is required to bind to the server, no one will be able to bind to my server without my permission, and that SSL offers a more secure connection to my server than not-SSL. How do I require these things, or do I not really want to?
Thank you.

• Site does not load after some minutes of creation or after restart the server

Hello,
I have been asked to create a test enviroment identical to the production enviroment. So, what I did was:
Backed up the production web application's content database: Prod_WSS_ContentDB
Created new test servers (domain controller, sql server and sharepoint 2013 server) in a new, completely isolated, network environment, without any connection with the production environment (specifically Azure)
Created a new web application in test environment with a new content database.
Dismounted the new content database with powershell: Dismount-spcontentdatabase Test_WSS_Content
Copy the Prod_WSS_ContentDB database to the test sql server and restored it with Management Studio.
Mount the Prod_WSS_ContentDB databe to the web application with powershell:
Mount-spcontentdatabse Prod_WSS_ContentDB -WebApplication http://testsp/
Then, when I type http://testsp in the browser it redirects me to http://testsp/SitePages/Home.aspx
and the site loads exactly as the production environment.
But, after some minutes, or if I restart the Sharepoint Server, when I navigate to
http://sitesp I am redirected to http://testsp/SitePages/Home.aspx
as expected, but the site does not load, the browser just show a complety blank page.
The Central Administration site loads normally.
Trying to fix it I found that if I dismount the content database Prod_WSS_ContentDB, then mount the test database Test_WSS_Content,
then navigate to the site, dismount Test_WSS_Content and finally mount again Prod_WSS_ContentDB, the site loads normally, no blank page, but after some minutes or if I restart the same happens again.

Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that Site does not load after some minutes of creation or after restart the server.
Please make sure you create a test environment for existing production site correctly.
Here are some great articles for your reference:

• Ldapclient against Apple Open Directory Server

Hallo,
I am trying to integrate a Solaris client into an Apple MacOSX 10.5 directory server.
Unfortunately, an integration process seems to be documented by Sun only for Microsoft Active Directory.
Currently, I have generated a keytab file and copied the krb5.conf file on the Solaris box from the MacOS server.
Then, I ran "ldapclient":
[root@zion /root]# ldapclient manual -v -a credentialLevel=self -a authenticationMethod=sasl/gssapi -a domainName=loopback.org -a serviceSearchDescriptor=passwd:cn=users,dc=loopback,dc=org -a serviceSearchDescriptor=group:cn=groups,dc=loopback,dc=org -a defaultSearchBase=dc=loopback,dc=org -a searchTimeLimit=60 borg.loopback.org
And get the following errorchain:
Starting network services
start: /usr/bin/domainname loopback.org... success
start: hosts: dns is not defined in /etc/nsswitch.ldap
start: sleep 100000 microseconds
start: system/filesystem/autofs:default... success
start: sleep 100000 microseconds
start: system/name-service-cache:default... success
start: sleep 100000 microseconds
start: network/smtp:sendmail... success
restart: sleep 100000 microseconds
restart: milestone/name-services:default... success
Error resetting system.
Recovering old system settings.
Does anyone have a clue or a working receipe ?
Thanks,
-Jan

This works:
# ldapclient manual -a credentialLevel=self -a authenticationMethod=sasl/gssapi -a domainName=loopback.org -a serviceSearchDescriptor=passwd:cn=users,dc=loopback,dc=org -a serviceSearchDescriptor=group:cn=groups,dc=loopback,dc=org -a defaultSearchBase=dc=loopback,dc=org -a searchTimeLimit=60 ldap.loopback.org
And I had to include "dns" in /etc/nsswitch.ldap".

• Open directory server crashing every 30 days / clients unable to connect to calendar, contacts server

Hello everyone,
I am running an up to date Mavericks Server which serves exclusively as a calendar and contacts server for about two dozens devices. The server is reachable via DynDNS, however, the public IP hardly ever changes (only once or twice a year maybe). Tried setting the OS X DNS Server to serve "all clients" and "some clients".
For about 6 months (i.e. also under Mountain Lion), I am having a very strange problem. Roughly every 20-30 days, clients will not be able to connect to the server, instead getting a "wrong password" dialog. Restarting the open directory server will help for the next 30 days.
I have tried repairing the database as detailed here, however, the issue persists.
Any help would be highly appreciated!
I would have tried setting up a clean server installation, migrating calendars/contacts manually and re-adding all users by hand, however, I am not aware of an easy way to do so. The terminal command for calendar backup is broken under mavericks (might work with this workaround) and re-adding users manually would apparently involve correcting user UUIDs afterwards in order to match the migrated calendar data. Do you know of a better approach?
Thanks a lot!

Looks like the attribute sunIdentityServerDiscoEntries is defined twice in the schema. Run the following and see where it is defined for the second time.
# cd /var/opt/SUNWdsee/dsins1/config/schema
# grep -w sunIdentityServerDiscoEntries *.ldif | grep -iv objectclasses

Any ideas??
Thanks

(over all i like what i have been seeing in ex2007)

i think that you might be confusing "AD user account" and "profile". you DO NOT delete administrator from your AD Users and Computers. you only delete the Profile (\documents and settings\administrator folder). you can NOT do this while you are logged on using the administrator account.
be sure to backup any data in your my documents and any favorites
create another user that is in the domain admin group of your active directory, log on with that account and verify that the exchange tools works. then follow this to remove the profile.
>1). Logon the Exchange server by using another admin account.
>2). Open Control Panel, select System.
>3). Select Advanced tab and click the Settings button of User Profile.
>4). Delete the Profile of user which encounters this issue.
>5). Click OK.
>6). Restart the server and logon it by using Administrator account.

once this is done, logon with your administrator account and try the tools again, they should work.tn

• Directory Server 6.2 upgrade to 6.3: import LDIF problem

Hi all,
I have tried upgrading my Directory Server 6.2 to version 6.3 because of the database integrity issues as stated in:
http://blogs.sun.com/dsee/entry/directory_server_6_2_database
I have followed the steps defined in this article:
1. Shut down each directory server instance, as described in Starting, Stopping, and Restarting a Directory Server Instance.
2. Perform an LDIF export of the database, as described in Backing Up to LDIF.
3. Install the hotfix for bug 6642430 on Directory Server 6.2, or upgrade your Directory Server 6.2 instance to Directory Server 6.3 once Directory Server 6.3 is available for download (early April). You will need to login to Sunsolve in order to see this bug description.
But when importing the LDIF export, I got the following error:
[17/Dec/2008:14:44:08 +0100] - import ec: WARNING: Skipping entry "sunPortalAdminPortalDomainPortalServerInstanceMonitoringID=Monitoring,sunPortalAdminPortalDomainPortalServerInstanceID=sol10portal-80,sunPortalAdminPortalDomainPortalID=portal1,sunPortalAdminPortalDomainID=defaultDomain,o=example" whichIt's the only information I get about why the entry was skipped (I did not forget to copy the part after 'which', there was no information there :-))
This resulted in a missing Portal instance configuration and thus I got a 'configuration error' when surfing through the gateway to the portal.
I have also tried: manually importing that entry, which resulted in a 'Object does not exist' error. I have tried copying the whole tree from another backup with identical setup, which wasn't working either.
Did anyone experience the same problems before? Did I do something wrong or is there a workaround for this?
Second question: What is the exact reason why a export and import is necessary? Or is it only necessary if the database is already corrupt? Is there a way to check that?
Thanks alot!
Sten

The entry was not imported most likely because it's parent isn't in the database yet. Are entries above this in another backend ? If so try importing that backend first. Also, that dn is so long, that it exhausted the buffer which is used to write messages in the access log. This is why, there's nothing after "which".
What is the exact reason why a export and import is necessary? Or is it only necessary if
the database is already corrupt? Is there a way to check that? The database corruption could be silent. So a binary backup/restore when going from 6.2 to 6.3 is not recommended and the LDIF route must be used.

So, I went back to the console, at this time it let me thru the step to accept the certificate, I did click next and an exception was threw. I copied it, but I lost it. After that, I wasn't able to get to the same point again, I am back to the old message that it can't contact the cacaoadm....

• Installation/Config Problem with Sun Directory Server Control Center (6.0)

Hi All,
I have recently attempted an installation of Sun Directory Server EE 6.0 on a x86 Solaris 10 machine.
I have selected to install Core Directory Server and Sun Directory Server Control Center with my installation.
After installation, if I check the status of the SUNDSCC, I receive the following message:
bash-3.00# ./dsccsetup status
DSCC Application is not installed
DSCC Agent is registered in Cacao
DSCC Registry has been created
Path of DSCC registry is /var/opt/SUNWdsee/dscc6/dcc/ads
Port of DSCC registry is 3998
I have also tried to re-start the Sun Java Web Console using the /usr/sbin/smcwebserver start command but that does not do anything.
If i try to initialize the SUNDSCC usin the ./dsccsetup initialize command, the registry got created, but it still displays as "application not installed".
I do not understand. I have already installed this application using the JES installer.
please help!

I had a similar issue. Here is how I fixed it.
Run dsccsetup status with the -v option. it will show you where it is trying to find the DSCC Application. Then do a find on your system to see where it is actually installed. Then simply copy it over to where dsccsetup is looking for it. Then do dsccsetup initialize. Below is what it looked like on my system when I did it:
# ./dsccsetup status -v

• Directory Server Console is slow

When I try to connect to Directory Server 5.1 with the console (same machine), it is ridiculously slow to respond. The machine's performance overall is fine, but console takes several minutes to respond to each mouse click.

Greg,
Sometimes reverse lookups pose a problem if not all of the clients are in DNS.
Check the attribute "nsadminaccesshosts" of the following dn: "cn=configuration, cn=admin-serv-<host>, cn=Netscape Administration Server, cn=Server Group, cn=<hostname>, ou=<administration-domain>, o=NetscapeRoot"
Per default it gets set to "*.<your_domain>".
Try to remove the value of this attribute. Does this improve the performance (adminserver must be restarted)?
If you have security concerns doing this, you can still restrict access to the administration server by specifying the IP-addresses (attribute: "nsadminaccessaddresses").
Regards,
Jakob.

• Access Manager Failed to Connect to Directory Server

Dear All,
I have problem with Directory Server connection in Access Manager. This happened in Production site, all application that integrated with Oracle Access Manager (OAM) for Single Sign On are not accessible after the Directory Server connection problem occur in OAM. The problem has only started occurring suddenly, before it the all service including the OAM and Directory Server is running well. Below are the error messages that appear in WebGate log file (ohs1.log) and OAM log file (oblog.log) :
>> OHS/WebGate (ohs1.log) :
[2014-01-21T09:25:12.0053+07:00] https://community.oracle.com/OHS https://community.oracle.com/OHS-9999 https://community.oracle.com/apache2entry_web_gate.cpp host_id: <WEBGATE_HOSTNAME> [host_addr:10.10.254.178] [ecid: 004w76rlRYt0NuapxKL6iW0000sE001oGY] The host and port from the requested URL could not be found in the Policy database. Check if the corresponding directory service is up.
>> OAM (Oblog.log):

The OAM using the Load Balancer between the LDAP Directory Server to OAM's component. When the error appears, there are no problem with the Load Balancer and all of Directory Sever services is up. There are two Directory Server servers in Multi Master Replication and 14 WebGate servers that integrated with OAM. Is there a limitation number of WebGate for integrated to the OAM?
I have tried to set some parameters in OAM configuration to solve this problem. I set the Maximum Connection of Directory Server parameter to 10 value (in OAM Console), the LDAPOperationTimeout paramater to 1 hour value and the LDAPMaxNoOfRetries parameter to 2 value (in the globalparams.xml). After set these parameters, the error is not appear in some days, but suddenly appear again in the same error message. May be set these parameters is not appropriate solution for the problem or the value that I set is not correct. Any experience with this?
I still don't know what the root cause of this problem. Restart all of OAM services (including the WebGate) is temporary solution when the error appear.
Any idea for this problem?
Thanks in advice.

Hi Jun-Y,
Thank you for your answer.
What do you means with the Directory Server's idle timeout is the "Idle Timeout" parameter in LDAP Client Control Settings?
I use Oracle Directory Server Enterprise 11.1.1.5.0. Now, the Directory Server's idle timeout parameter is "unlimited" value.
If the idle timeout of the load balancer set 1 hour, it means that I must change the directory server's idle timeout to be less than 1 hour. Isn't right?

• Active Directory - Server 2008 R2 and 2012 R2 (Server Formatting or not productive

Hello guys, I come here to try to clarify a great doubts regarding Server Operating Systems, I will attempt to detail the most of my scenario.
Suppose I have a Server 2008 R2 in production, and this is my Active Directory server (meudominio.local) and am managing through Group Policy settings my workstations that are around 60-70 computers, guys my doubts the thing is, if I need some time to format
and perform a fresh installation of my server as it will be my Active Directory? Of course I will have lost my domain controller and I have to accomplish the placement of each workstation again that enters my domain one by one.
I know there is the option of AD replication, so we call the Active Directory, even for another version of the Operating System, prátia already realized this, but it most often comes not functioning properly, done without replication problems Server 2003 to
2008 R2.
Guys like to know a solution to not having to put my plants in my domain network again one by one, is there any way to backup so that when I reinstalled the system and the AD again in my server stations return to "see" again that server as your domain
controller, even me installing AD with the same domain name before this formatting stations do not respond to this driver in this case do the Network ID or add the station to the area again, so she creates a new user profile for example (Max.meudominio) while
your old profile "guy" still remains on the machine, I adopted the practice of editing the record of this newly created profile and pointing him well for the old user folder which contains all data and settings, eg edit my key "ProfileImagePath"
regedit logged in with the newly created profile (Max.meudominio) ->
(switch "ProfileImagePath" C:\Users\Max.meudominio) thus pointing to the folder before replacing in the field again this season after formatted server, thus ->
(Switch "ProfileImagePath" C:\Users\Max), detail that we give permission for all such user "C:\Users\Max" folder, after that restart the computer and he comes back with the user profile and all your settings.
I wonder if there is another method to perform this procedure, do not know even a backup AD to not have to replace all the seasons again "meudominio.local".
Thank you for your attention!

As the practice of replication I know her mostly said she has some flaws when I do the replication of my domain to another server but it works correctly, so having a server "master" and the other ServidorBKP as "slave", in redundancy,
the problem is when I say, and put the "ServidorBKP" being my primary domain controller and disabling my main controller, to disable or turn off my main controller the stations themselves are unable to login because it does not communicate with the
my ServidorBKP "slave" even I put it as the main driver of course.
Regarding the System State as far as I know this option existed in Server 2003.
