RESTful Services on WLS

I'm developing a REST API for external consumption, developing in JDeveloper using the Jersey libraries and running on WLS. I'm a complete newbie in JDev and WLS, and I've been using this guide as a starting point: [url http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17904_01/web.1111/e13734/rest.htm#CHDFCGCI] http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17904_01/web.1111/e13734/rest.htm#CHDFCGCI
Several things about this are unsatisfactory or unclear; the URL while running inside JDev to call my services are absurdly long and complex (e.g., http://api.myserver.com:non-80port/applicationName-projectName-context-root/HandlerClassName). This implies that more than one handler class is needed for each different part. Is that true? Is that long path just the way JDev handles it, and will I have more control over the path when I deploy this to WLS?
How do I set this up so that the path is simple? E.g., http://api.myserver.com/HandlerClassName, or better yet, without HandlerClassName
Can one handler class be used to handle multiple GETs, PUTs, POSTs, DELETEs, etc., with different sub-paths (so to speak)? In other words, different GETs and PUTs for http://api.myserver.com/account, different GETs and PUTs for http://api.myserver.com/forums, different GETs and PUTs for http://api.myserver.com/catalog, etc? Or is it best to break these up into separate handler classes?
I have a feeling that this question, and others I have regarding this task, may not fall squarely under the WLS topic, but they don't seem to be strictly JDev, either. If I need to ask this elsewhere, please point me in the right direction.
Thanks!

Hi!
In my tries to get security to work between WL 8.x to ALSB I realized that WL 8.x don't have support for WS-Security (and therfore WS-Policy) that ALSB uses, but maybe there are some workarounds...

  • How to set the HTTP headers in HTTP Binding to call RESTful service

    I'm calling a RESTful service from the SOA Composite through a BPEL process. The RESTful service need few values to be set in the HTTP header to authorize the request. I tried several different options like setting the headers in the invoke service etc., but in vain. Apparently, the web service call fails for not having header information.
    I have burnt several days on this. Can somebody help me to get through this please?
    I'm using SOA composite 11.1.1.4 on WLS 10.3.4.
    Thanks in advance.

  • APEX Listener 2.0 - RESTful Services Failure with  404 - Not Found

    Versions used:
    * APEX Listener 2.0.0.354.17.05
    * Application Express 4.2.1.00.08
    * Oracle Database 11.2.0.1
    When testing the sample RESTful Service Module oracle.example.hr I always get 404 - Not Found page.
    I followed the documentation to install and configure APEX 4.2 and the Listener 2.0. Everything in my APEX installation works fine except RESTful Services.
    For example, when calling this RESTful Service:
    http://company.com:45678/apex/DEV/xxuapex/hr/empinfo/
    I get a 404 page.
    The corresponding entry in url-mapping.xml is:
    <pool base-path="/DEV" name="od01" workspace-id="xxuapex"/>
    where xxuapex is the name of the schema as well as the workspace where the RESTful Service is installed.
    Moreover, the corresponding od01.xml, od01_rt.xml and od01_al.xml in the conf directory seem correct.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Eddie Awad.

    Hi Eddie,
    +> try the other option base-url of the url-mapping+
    I did. No change. Still getting 404.When active it should transform the 404 page into a detailed 404 with a description of what the error is. Just to be sure, this is activated in the defaults.xml file of the APEX Listener as: *<entry key="log.logging">true</entry>*.
    You should then see a detailed 404 output in your browser of what's going wrong first of all.
    +> Could you post your url-mapping.xml file?+
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <pool-config xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/apex/pool-config">
    <pool base-path="/DEV" name="od01" workspace-id="xxuapex"/>
    <pool base-path="/TEST" name="ot01" workspace-id="xxuapex"/>
    </pool-config>
    Despite using the url mapping script, it didn't map mine correctly and had to edit it manually. It was the use of "apex" that got it to work for me:
    *<pool base-path="/" name="apex" workspace-id="workspace-name-here" updated="2013-01-09T20:48:59.75Z"/>*

  • How to test RESTful service?

    Hello Everyone!
    Working on APEX REST services, my query is in regard with the below link:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37097_01/doc/doc.42/e35128/restful_svc.htm#autoId6
    In the above link, heading '5.5.2 Retrieving Data Based on a Parameter (employees/{id})' -> points from 1. -to- .8 are covered.
    Stuck on point '9. Click Set Bind Variables.', I cannot find this link on that page under my Development environment Application Express 4.2.0.00.27.
    Kindly help to locate this link so that I can test my service?
    For more clarity, please click below image link
    http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/cloud/dbservice/restfulws/images/t2_02.jpg
    The mouse cursor is placed at the end of the page on one of the two buttons 'Test' & 'Set Bind Variables', my development environment doesn't show these buttons. Anyone know why is this happening?
    - Krishna Vashistha

    Okay, I have got this sort out on my own.
    For the record, you must update you apex listener with new release apex_listener.2.0.5.287.04.27, which supports RESTful services. By updating you will see those two missing buttons 'Test' & 'Set Bind Variables', to test your newly created service.

  • Getting "Origin is not allowed" When Trying to Invoke RESTful Service from Another Domain

    I am having problems trying to invoke my RESTful web service from a different domain. I'm well aware of the normal restrictions of cross-site / cross-domain scripting but in Oracle documentation it says that all origins are allowed by default when creating a RESTful service without using authentication.
    I have created a very simple service and am trying to invoke it using jQuery.Ajax calls from a different domain and I am getting XMLHttpRequest cannot load http://address_to_my_web_service. Origin http://calling_from_address is not allowed by Access-Control-Allow-Origin.
    I understand that using JSONP instead of JSON is actually the best practice around cross-site scripting but it appears as though APEX does not support JSONP because with JSONP, there are URI parameters added to the base request (callback).
    I am stuck and would greatly appreciate any help.
    I'm starting to wonder if this could be a bug because Oracle documentation says all origins should be allowed when using a service that does not require authentication. I also tried to force the origin to be allowed by typing it in and also using the wildcard '*' and it still did not work.
    Thanks,
    Mark Williamson
    EDIT: It is now working after adding a URI prefix to my web service module.

    The SSL handshake works differently to a browser as it is making the connections automatically.
    The browser asks every time if you want to trust an expired certificate, and it also recommends not to. Its impractical to manually check every service call to say do you trust the certificate so the functionality doesn't exist. I doubt any integration product does this. Therefore there isn't a option to ignore the certificate if it has expired.
    This makes sence as the certificate is untrustworthy. The whole idea around SSL is trusting the site you are communicating with, all parties need to be trusted. This stops hackers from replicating their site and intercepting data.
    If the administrator of the remote site is not willing to renew the certificate, are they really interested in SSL. I suggest they expose a non SSL service.
    cheers

  • Issue with 'SAVE AS' RESTful service call in 4.1 SP5 ?

    Hello Everyone,
    I'm facing an issue when trying to save a webi document into another folder using 'SAVE AS' RESTful call, it's giving 500 Internal server error  (through AZOT & RESTClient)
    Following are details:
    We are on to BusinessObjects version 4.1 SP5. In the AZOT workflow, I have created a new document and in the next call I'm trying to save this newly created document into another folder, then this is error is observed.
    RESTful service URL:- [POST] : /documents/{docId}
    Request Body:
                             <document>
                                <name>Testing SAVE AS</name>
                                <folderId>219060</folderId>
                            </document>
    Response:
    Can anyone help me with this ?
    Thanks,
    Ram

    Hello,
    Thanks for your prompt replies.
    @Saritha:
    1. On new document Save call is giving message as "NOT Modified", as i didn't perform any actions.So Yes, I'm able to perform SAVE.
    2. Yes, I have performed other operations like creating a Report.
    @Eric: 3. Yes, the folder which I'm trying to save is writable for the user.
    My Observation: When I'm trying to 'SAVE AS' on new document its giving 500 error as I said earlier.
    1. But, after creating new document, I created a new Report for that document, then 'SAVE AS' working. That means after performing some action/modifying the document 'SAVE AS'  is working for me.
    2. Same issue(500 error) observed when trying to perform 'SAVE AS' call on the EXISTING document as well (which is create in BI Launchpad, refreshing and working fine).
    So, is it mandatory to perform any action (which brings the document to Modify mode [i guess]) before this 'SAVE AS' call ?
    Thanks,
    Ram

  • How to store and display Response from REST Service

    Hi,
    My WADL has defined the response that my REST service returns back as below :
    <object name="Get_Root">
            <property name="RequestId" type="number" />
            <property name="Name" type="string" />
            <property name="fromPlace" type="string" />
            <property name="toPlace" type="string" />
            <property name="fromDate" type="string" />
            <property name="toDate" type="string" />
    </object>
    I want to store this response; response is a single entry of the above type and not a collection (I am making the request on a button click) and then display it on the screen in multiple labels.
    How can I do this? Will I have to use a collection and a gallery, even though I have a single response?
    Thanks,
    Pragya

    Okay.. got it. So MyRestData has a Get function taking some n arguments and it responds back with an object of the type I had mentioned before.
    From what I understood, I have to write the below code for each label
    MyRestData!Get(.....)!Name
    MyRestData!Get(.....)!fromPlace
    MyRestData!Get(.....)!toPlace ...and so on
    Wouldn't that translate to different REST calls? Is there a way to get and store the entire response object
    in the app and access each of its properties/subelements locally?
    Also when you wrote the below before
    Text: "The name is: " &  MyRestData!Get_Root!Name
    it seems that I can access the response object Get_Root using MyRestData. This is not the case for me. MyRestData only lets me access the Get function using "!", and not the response object in any way.
    Thanks for your help!

    Yes, it failed during insert using AL2.0.1.
    So the above statement produces the following error message:

    ORA-06550: line 2, column 74:

    <an identifier> <a double-quoted delimited-idThis suggests to me that an unprintable character (notice how there is nothing between the double quotes - "") has worked its way into your PL/SQL Handler. Note how the error is reported to be a column 74 on line 2, yet line 2 of the above block should only have 58 characters, so at a pure guess somehow there's extra whitespace on line 2, that is confusing the PL/SQL compiler, I suggest re-typing the PL/SQL handler manually and seeing if that cures the problem.

  • BODI: How to extract data from a RESTful service

    Hi,
    Is there a way tot extract data from a REST service using Data Integrator (12.1.1.0)?
    I have to import data (in batch and with filters) from  several  webservices using  urls  like https://customer.productservice.net/connect/products.xml
    The service fills the xml file once you call the url.
    To calll the service, you need a username/password.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Robert.

    Hi,
      I got my answer, goto RS02 to create a datasource to link to this Infoset.

  • Is there a way to use REST service to query data from a forms collection?

    I want to query and retrieve data from a SharePoint forms collection. I have a forms library that has multiple documents all being created using the same template.
    I need to query and retrieve data from it using oData/ReST API.
    I could see the /_vti_bin/listdata.svc and it seems I cannot get the forms data using this.
    What will be the best approach?
    Does that helps?

    Hi,
    Rest service is not available to retrieve the data in forms.
    For this issue, the common workaround I know is to first populate the form fields as columns in form library, then retrieve the columns value instead. You can also use rest service in this way.
    If it is not convenience this way, please provide more information about the scenario to get the data.

  • An error occurred querying a data source - with REST services

    Hi,
    I have a SharePoint 2013 form library library with an info-path form. I need to get the logged in user's 'Display Name' on my form load automatically.
    I used REST service to fetch the current user details. In the preview mode of the form, its showing the right name. But when I publish this form to library I am getting the following error.
    REST Service --> http://site url/_api/SP.UserProfiles.PeopleManager/GetMyProperties
    Please help me to resolve this issue.
    Thanks in advance for your time and reply :)

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that an error occurred querying a data source with REST services.
    It is defiantly permission issue with GetUserProfileByName service
    and could be many reasons of this problem. You first try with UDCX file and make sure that UPS is running.

  • TNS timed out error while testing REST service

    4.2

    Hi There,
    We had a new application which was to get and post data using REST API which connects to an internal server. This works fine when we use the Google Chrome Advance REST application through the browser, but get a TNS timed out when trying through Apex
    Even a simple sql in the SQL workarea in Apex throws the same error
    select utl_http.request( 'http://ourserver.com/api/subscriptions') test
    from dual;
    ORA-29273: HTTP request failed ORA-06512: at &quot;SYS.UTL_HTTP&quot;, line 1130 ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out
    Any idea, what the issue could be?   Works fine from the browser though using a REST client
    Trying this for the first time.
    thanks,
    Ryan

    Hi Ryan,
    During your installation, did you follow the steps to enable Network Services, which is one of the requirements when using web services in APEX.  You'll find the necessary information in the installation guide.   Also in your utl_http.request call, have you tried specifying a proxy, if one is required?  You might also want to take a look at at apex_web_service API, specifically the make_rest_request function, which might be useful if you're looking to invoke a RESTful Service via PL/SQL in your application.

  • Getting Excel to interpret the return string of a WEBSERVICE() function using a WCF REST service.

    I am using the WEBSERVICE() function in Excel and a WCF REST service is called through this function.
    The web service returns a string value of true or false when invoked.  E.g. <string xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/2003/10/Serialization/">True</string>
    This has been confirmed through debugging and it seems to be working fine when invoked through a client application or browser.
    However, the result shown in the cell in the Excel sheet is #VALUE!. This particular cell has a custom format (set using the Format Cells ... option) that displays "Yes" or "No". (The
    custom format is "Yes" ; "Yes" ; "No".)  Is this the correct way of interpreting the results of a Web Service method called in Excel? Does a #VALUE! result actually imply a formatting issue or some other interpretation
    error? Is there anything missing? Can somebody suggest ideas?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Keith

    Hi Keith,
    Have you used the formula FILTERXML(xml, xpath) function to extract single pieces of data from the XML string?
    If not, please follow the blog below, the author will guide you to get data from Webservice.

  • Need help in creating SOA SUITE RESTFul Service.

    Hi All,
    I have a requirement to provide a restful service url to other party to post plain xml message.
    So i have configured HTTBinding as below
    Type : Service
    Operation Type : One Way
    OperationName : Send
    Verb : Post
    Payload type : xml
    its one way transaction, we dont need to send response back to other party.
    After my configuration, when i use the URL to post some xml message from REST client
    i get a error "<error>oracle.fabric.common.FabricException: Unable to find operation: unknown</error>" same error even in composite with no instace created
    and when i add a header property SOAPAction : Send then message goes through adapter and i see instances in composite.
    But unfortunatly the team whos posting messages to fusion were not able to add any property
    Is there any we can solve this with out Header Property added at client side.
    Or Do we have any other way to create a RESTFull service in soa suite(i guess OSB allows this.)
    Help appreciated
    im using soa suite 11g
    thanks in advance guys
    Regards
    Sujan.

    You need to set the compatibility of the setup.exe file that was downloaded
    - right click setup.exe
    - click on properties
    - go to the compatibility tab, check the box that says 'run this program in compatibility mode for',
    - select 'Windows XP service pack 2' from the drop down list.
    - Click ok and try again
    It then runs it as if it was XP (v 5.2 )
    However there are a bunch of other tasks to do install on vista
    check
    'Start SOA Suite' fails after laptop restart.
    for details of other config..
    It would be interesting to see if you are successful as I currently cannot install it on my vista machine..
    Good luck
