    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
  • NExtel Blackberry 8350i will not restore connections or connect to Radio
    I have just started having this problem with my 8350i.  It shows that I have full bars and that Nextel is my provider.  BUT when I try to make a call it says "Cannot connect".  I try to restore connections and nothing.  When I take the battery out and it restarts it goes to "OFF".
    Sounds to me like a hardware issue.
    That sucks, research products before you buy them though, know the features, know what they do. Check Check and double check
  • Issues restoring/connecting Shuffle with PGP installed
    It seems like Apple registered my iPod Shuffle that I bought today back in December (huh?), so I can't use the chat to contact the Apple staff regarding this issue (and no, I don't have a fax, don't even have a fixed phone line). Still, this might be relevant for others.
    Just home with a shiny new Shuffle, connecting it, updating it and messing around with it. Tried the Restore function, and that was obviously something I shouldn't have done...
    I've got a trial of PGP 9.5.x installed and it seems like it messed something up. After I use the Restore function in iTunes or the separate iPod Reset Utility to reset, format and restore the iPod, it isn't recognized by the OS/iTunes anymore.
    After quite a few moments of research, I found out that after the iTunes Restore/iPod Reset Utility, the partition scheme for the Shuffle became pgpwdeMBR_Diskscheme, which obviously must have something to do with PGP's Whole Disk Encryption functionality. And as long as the partition scheme was wrong, iTunes thought the file system was corrupt and it seems there was nothing that could be done to correct it.
    The only way I got around this, was to connect the iPod to a PC with Windows XP and run the iPod Reset Utility on there. So now I got a FAT formatted Shuffle, but at least it is recognized on the Mac.
    I suppose I could have uninstalled PGP and hoped that whatever got messed up got restored. But, this is an extremely annoying bug and it seems like Apple need to do serious updating on the iPod Reset Utility which in my opinion should be a solid maintenance tool.
  • Apple TV is updated, restored, connected to Wi-fi but won't connect to home sharing
    I have done everything I can think of to get this thing working, all I wanted to do was watch a movie tonight. I turned it on and I figured I would check to see if there were any updates while I was there. Updated my apple TV and it restarted and went to connect to my computer and nothing, it stated I needed to turn home sharing on on my computer. I came in made sure it was on, which it was. NOTHING! I restarted my computer and made sure I had the latest update (11.4) shut it off, turned it back on. I went out and reset the apple TV by unplugging it from the wall, turned it back on turned home sharing off and on on the Apple TV still nothing. Sent the Apple TV to restore mode and restored the thing, entered all my information again. NOTHING, very frustrated right now. Nothing but problems with my apple products lately. It will update, connect to iTunes, show my pictures I have in my iCloud, but won't show none of my movies that I have on my computer.
  • Restore connect to itunes
    I keep getting told to connect to itunes after sync is completed. I installed 6.01 and have not seen mt ipad screen since. Just set up as new ipad or restore from itunes backup.  I try to restore, hook up to itunes, synch, and then it says connected.  Then when synch is completed, it goes back to connect to itunes screen.  what can I do?
    Hi all, after about 7 hours on the phone on and off with some very helpful apple phone support guys, they book me a session with an apple Tech at a local apple store, however prior to that, my CO suggested i try syncing the phone on his Mac Book and it worked. it restored the op system and i plugged it into my Windows laptop and it then restored all my apps. Okay no Contacts etc, but i was just happy to have it working again and apart from it saying it's only 6.9gb. If you having the same issue and know anyone who could resync it with a macbook then it's worth a shot !!
  • Bridge Disassociating Restores Connectivity
    From time to time i loose connectivity to a non-root bridge from a non-root repeater bridge. When i goto to the non-root repeater bridge I click on the log entry for the lost non-root bridge and select disassociate and connectivty is then restored to non-root bridge. Why is this happening and why doesnt it reassociate on its on instead of me having to manually dissasociate it?
    According to the log and status of non-root bridge on the non-root repeater bridge everything is ok( Status = OK, WEP, Short Preambles and State = Assoc, AID=3, SSID=0) but cannot ping non-root device when this happens. Devices are 350 non-root-repeater and 1310 non-root. This happens at 2 other locations I have as well but at least the log at those locations relfects connectivity lost, however to regain connectivity i have to dissaciate manually.
    Thanks for the details.
    I understand that the setup acording to your explanation is as given below:
    350 root bridge---350 Non-Root Bridge---1310 Non Root
    Well, this setup doesn't work the way it has been described if this is a Bridge setup.
    In such a setup, the 1310 non-root bridge & the 350 non-root bridges will communicate with 350 series root bridge only & independent of each other. So the 350 non-root bridge will not associate the 1310 non-root bride & vice versa.. But both will associate with 350 series root bridge.
    So the setup is actually like this:
    350 root br----350 non-root br
    |
    |
    |
    1310 non-rot Br.
    Now, what would be the approximate distance for both bridges from the root bridge ?
    I feel your 1310 is located at a distance farther than the 350 series non-root bridge from the 350 root bridge and that might be one of the reason why you face intermittent connection with the 1310 non-root bridge.
    Also let me know which antenna you are using with their strength & gain values.
    Thanks & Regards,
  • Proper procedure for restoring "Connection/Sync" of Apple TV to iTunes
    I had a major issue with my Mac. Disk space was dynamically going missing, so i gave up after not being able to solve and bought a new 1TB disk. Reinstalled OSX, and started fresh.
    For iTunes, i have always had luck with this restore procedure for the library, etc:
    1) Drag and drop all things under Username/Music from old drive to new location.
    2) Copy .plist files for iTunes to new install.
    3) Launch iTunes. All is good.
    now, for Apple TV.... i've had issues with this before.
    I need to reestablish this mac as the "owner" or whatever of the Apple TV. I need to ensure the content on the ATV remains and that if i buy something here, it will sync (if selected, etc) to the ATV.
    What is the proper procedure for this?
    Only thing i care is that the content on the ATV now is still in tact.
    Any help?
    I'm pretty conscientious about adhering to the terms and conditions laid down by , but I don't believe they would stand in the way of someone recovering irreplaceable photos and home videos for example.     When connecting my iPod to my computer it says I have to restore the software of the iPod(I use iTunes 7.4.1.2). Doing so (trying to select Restore on the Summary tab) it says it cannot connect to the update server because I don't have an internet connection.   • HP 7510 AIO printer won't stay connected - Wired workstation, wireless printer
    Hi!  I spoke (and checked solution button) too soon. The printer still "disappears" from the Wired XP network workstation. The only difference since applying the solution given is that the disconnects are now happening about every 12 hours, vs every couple of hours.
    Ink notification is set to "only when I print"
    Static IP is set for all machines
    HNDU works -- when the printer is visible but will hang the workstation if printer is not visible.
    Printer: HP 7510
    Network:  multi-station wireless, thru DLink DI-632 (one PC hardwired to router)
    Address Config:   Printer is using static IP -- outside of DCHP range (192.168.15.240)
    Printer Config: Each computer has static IP set into the control panel app, using IP addressing.
    Operating System:  XP (Service Pack 3)
    Other devices:  Ipad, Xoom and Kindle Fire (all working using ePrint)
    Network Security Protocol: WEP (we're out in the country)
    Network Setup:  Main router, along with 2 access ports (hardwired); currently using channels 1, 5 and 11 (again, we're in the country and have little competition for channels)
    File Sharing: All machines in network have one open "share" drive, accessable with passwork.
    Scenario:  Wireless computers appear to stay connected for several days to a week at a time. (We reboot weekly, just as a SOP)
    Computer that is wired to the network loses communication with the printer a couple of times a day and needs to be rebooted in order to restore connection.
    When this happens, other machines continue to print and scan, with no problems, and the wired machine continues to have its name displayed in the SCANNING panel on the printer -- but the printer won't talk to it.   All network functions, including internet and intranet access to the printer's EWS is still available.  I have noticed that if I go into check ink levels, though, that the ink check software behaves differently.
    Normally in the ink status app, there is a small "working" icon with 6 dots. When this computer is connected properly, it will start jumping around the circle, showing activitiy, get to 41%, and then display the ink status info.  When the printer/computer connection is not working, the "working" icon will go to just a couple of percent then jump to the printer information page, showing make, model, serial number, firmware level etc.
    In every instance so far, rebooting (with no other action) brings the printer/computer connection back to life -- until next time.  I am trying to find any other pattern for this behavior, just can't identify it yet.
    I started out with the plain vanilla installation, but then every computer in the network would consistently drop connections, about every 45 minutes. Using the info on this forum, I've eliminated the drop-outs for those printers, and got to the Static IP solutions (we've done that anyway for years with net-ready machines).  This is the last machine that "drops off"  It appears that some piece of HP-required software is "dropping out" or getting clobbered, but I cannot see a pattern, even checking and noting the various software used locally on the machine, and the various websites visited. So far, no pattern.
    I am hoping that an HP guru with access to the source for the "ink supply" status software can take a look at what is happening and why it will always go to 41% and then display ink status (when connected) and then only go a couple of percent and display the ink status (when it isn't connected).
    Thanks, in advance,
    jim
    More info:
    In last paragraph, above, the request for "ink status" is returned with a static display of the printer firmware version, driver version, step level, MAC# etc of the printer, not "ink status" when the printer is disconnected.
    Also, when printer is disconnected the HP home networking utility will hang the system -- a hard reboot is required, which restores the printer, until the next time it goes "into the woods".  Signal stregth, measured on the printer, is 4 bars (very good).
    Thanks!  That appears to solve the problem.  After your suggestion, I remembered that I set the "ink level warning" on this machine ONLY to "Always warn me", as opposed to "tell me only when I am printing".  That seemed to be the problem. Only the computer that was set to "always warn on low ink-levels" was disconnecting -- the others worked fine! Now, all are working fine.
    Just to be safe, though, I've also turned off the "scan from printer to computer" function on each computer. That was set for each machine, and seemed to work fine. The other machines in the network did not disconnect, and the printer was tracked whether each computer was on or off.   May try to turn it on later; I'll see if the family uses that feature very often!
    Thank you for your help.
    I spoke too soon!  After about 26 hours, the printer connection on the one "hard-wired" CPU dropped, which is better than before, but still not solid.  Same exact symptoms as before. Only piece of the puzzle that was different this time is about 50 pages were scanned, some to this computer.  Used the "Scan requested from CPU" process, rather than enabling the "Scan TO Cpu" function in the software app.  It did not drop the connection immediately after -- about 1 hour to 1.5 hours afterwards.  Suspect this is a coincidence, not a cause of the problem with this machine.
    I also scanned (same approach) from one other CPU on the network -- that wifi connection is still rock-solid.
    I think it is fixed now.....the problem seems to reside in the module that will notify you immediately if ink is low (vs notify me only when printing).  If, when initially installed, the user selects "immediately", then the printer will randomly disappear. (More on "re-finding it" later.)
    Also, it is difficult to change the ink notification setting, because it appears not to be "sticky", but will sometimes, flip. (I've not figured this out yet).  As long as the setting for "low ink notification" is on "only when printing", life is good.
    If the printer does disappear, go over to the Advanced tab when the printer software/firmware page comes up, instead of the current ink levels.  Reset the selection about "tell me about ink notification" to "only when printing", and then toggle the "autoshut off" from "NEVER" to "2 hours" and then, finally, back to "NEVER".  Then, lastly, press closed on the panel.  Printer should be connected again. To test, go to the Photosmart 7510 app again, and select "Show estimated ink levels".  The counter will start at 1%, jump to 41% and then bounce around until it displays the ink level.
    FOR HP TECH:  Please consider making the "ink level notification" persistent in the registry OR provide a de-install tool that will completely clean all traces of the prior installation of the 7510 driver / app in the registry, so that a new install may have this setting saved correctly.
    Hope this helps some of you -- it's an excellent printer once its running!
  • New time capsule+new airport express=daily dropped connections
    I have a new 2 TB Time Capsule and a new Airport Express that I puchased to update my old set-up of an Airport Express and Airport Extreme.
    I have the TC set-up as the primary base station in the back of the house and the airport express set-up to extend the network in the front of the house. I was getting constant disconnects up front for the first several days so I finally exchanged the new AX for another one thinking maybe the first one was faulty. I reset the TC back to factory defaults for good measure and re-set up my network the same way with the new AX.
    Two days with no disconnects, thought it was fixed, and then it started again...no joy. Not as often as with the first AX, but still it happens 2-3 times a day and always up in the front of the house while we're on our MacBook Pro or MacBook Air. When this happens both the AX and the TC have green lights and full bars of connectivity show in the menu bar, but yet no internet access. The only way to reconnect is to restart the AX. I have noticed too, that when this happens, the Airport Utility does not show the TC at all...even though it's light is fully green and it should be there, it just shows the AX until I restart and then both show up again.
    I've tried changing the channel from automatic to a specific channel but this really doesn't change things much. Now I'm starting to wonder if something is awry with the TC. I've also noticed that it sometimes fails to back up because it can't find a connection to my iMac which is right next to it in the back of the house.
    So far this upgrade has been more of a downgrade. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Just an update and still seeking some advice for this situation...anybody?
    I tried re-setting both TC and AX to factory settings and re-configuring. Still get at least 3-4 dropped connections up front on a daily basis; however, TC has been connecting successfully and backing up my iMac, so at least that seems to be ok.
    Still the same situation with the TC not showing up in Airport Utility every time the network connection drops happen...just the AX is seen until I finally have to restart the AX and then both can be viewed in Airport Utility and the internet connection is restored. Sometimes I can restore connection by simply toggling my airport access on and off in the menu bar of my MacBook Pro, but more often then not, I have to restart the AX itself to get back online.
    Is it possible that this could be an issue with the TC? Somehow it might be dropping the connection to the AX? I can still exchange it for another if this may be the case. I'm already on my second AX thinking that the Express was the problem initially.
    So far, nothing seems to help the situation. About the only thing that I haven't done is configure the AX to just join the network rather than extend it...but that would be defeating the purpose of why I bought it in the first place (to stream iTunes and extend network).
    I never had issues with my old set-up, but then I had it configured as a WDS because I didn't have the option to "extend" the network as it was an older AX and Airport Express.
