Restore oracle EBS test environment

hi every one
I have a test environment with 2 partitions C:(OS) and D:(apps11i), for some media failure I lost both partitions.
I have a backup for apps folders D:\apps11i but unfortunately I don't have a backup for C:(OS).
so kindly provide me with solution to make my test environment starts again.
FYI
EBS :11.5.10.2
DB: 9i
OS: Windows 2000 server

Hi,
but, I already have a backup of test APPS11i folder, so what if I install windows and application then just replace the fresh created apps11i folder with backuped one?
is this useful,Restoring the application/database file only will not work unless you have taken a backup of the registry as well.
again I cannot run any thing in live source.
and FYI I always update the test environment by copy the proddata folder to test and running auto config.
waiting your valuable solution. If you cannot clone the source instance, then you only option is to do a fresh installation of this test instance.
Thanks,
Hussein

  • Restore AD to test Environment

Trying to restore two domain controllers to a test environment.
I am unable to get the domain controllers to sync. One of the server is our FSMO roll holder. I recieve an errror when running the command netdom query fsmo
How do I get the servers to start replicating to each other. Each server shows the domain is unavailable. DNS is not functioning on either server.

    Hi,
According to your description, you have restored 2 Domain Controllers in your test environment, right? Would you please tell us how did you restore them?
In addition, please check the DNS settings on both DCs, make sure that they both point to the primary DC as preferred DNS server.
You can try to ping each DC to test the network connectivity.
If there is no network connectivity issue, you can force replication between DCs through AD Sites and Services:

  • Is there any best practice for printer configuration for test environment?

My Oracle ebs test environment has a scheduled refresh period where it will be refreshed with production test data and configuration time to time for BA, Dev to work on their enhancement.
However, all the printer configurations are still pointing to production ones after refreshed, which means whenever there is a testing on-going, the doc / label / invoices will be printed to production printer.
May I know if there is a way to globally change all the printer setup for the test environment, so that nothing will be directly to production?... Please assist.
(currently, the only way is to change one by one and only if you are aware of it...)
In case your organization has any other strategy on this matter, pls share also... Thanks a lot.

Thanks a lot.If you do not want to use same printers then you have to it to point to the (TEST/BA Printers) after you are done with Rapid Clone. • Missing datafile after cloing oracle EBS from production to test

    Good Day
I have done a restore from the production system to the test system some time ago . Today I got an error on my test system saying ORA-00376: file 375 cannot be read at this time . After checking I found that the file seems to be missing on the test environment .
    SQL > select file_name from dba_data_files where file_id=375 ;
    /gldb11i/devdb/9.2.0/dbs/MISSING00375
So I got the name from production and since the file seems to be avilabe in test I did the rename as follows :
SQL> alter database rename file '/gldb11i/devdb/9.2.0/dbs/MISSING00375' to '/gld
    b11i/oradevd/oradata/dev/gld16.dbf' ;
    Database altered.
But when I tryed to recover the file I got the error .
    SQL> recover datafile '/gldb11i/oradevd/oradata/dev/gld16.dbf'
ORA-00283: recovery session canceled due to errors
    ORA-01110: data file 375: '/gldb11i/oradevd/oradata/dev/gld16.dbf'
ORA-01122: database file 375 failed verification check
    ORA-01110: data file 375: '/gldb11i/oradevd/oradata/dev/gld16.dbf'
ORA-01206: file is not part of this database - wrong database id
Ofcourse that is becuse my test dataabse was renamed from production name fmprod to test name fmdev .
Is there any way to recover the file ? . I have all the archive logs avilable . Can nid change the database id in the file if it is only one file ?
Why did I not get any errors when I was doing the post cloneing process ?
Please note my databse is versio 9.2.0.6
    Many thanks to all

    1. Use Transportable feature to transport the remaining datafile from production to test.
How can I do that without stopping production or making it read only .
    2. Reclone only that tabespace from Production to test.
How , I used the oracle provided scripts for the cloning process ie . adcfgclone.pl
    3. Depending on the size of data contents, manually drop and recreate the tablespace in test, export contents from Production, import into test.
I am worried about the data consistancy . Will the database be consistant it I do that there might be tables on other tablespaces related to this tablespace
    Thanks

  • Cold Oracle EBS backup and restore doesn't work

    Hi,
I did a backup using tar while the database was open and not in archive mode ( archivelog disabled ) and restored it on another machine.

I understand that Hot backups cannot be done with noarchivelog and data will be inconsistent.
However, shouldn't the Database be able to recover whatever data is in there in the datafiles and startup normally. From where should it be recoverd, only if we store the data changes in a separate files. These files are called archive logs. The archive logs will be generated when you enable archive log.
This is my question and concern. I searched for Metalink and couldn't find anything on it.
I want to startup the database with whatever Data is present there after the backup. Any solutions for such a scenario ?

Specify log: {<RET>=suggested | filename | AUTO | CANCEL}When it asks for change number "637" and if you are lucky enough that the redo log file with this sequence is not over written then that redo log file can be given as input when it asks as above.
But again, all these tries are for nothing. At the end of the day if your database is in no archive log mode the reliable backup is only the one taken using cold backup method. i.e. by shutting down the database.

Can anyone tell me what is the best way to cloning the application from different environment, the test and production are in different physical server.
Can I just tar the weblogic file system and untar it to the new server and make the necessary changes?
Can anyone share their experiences and how to with me?
    Thank in advance.

    Hi Katherine,
yes and no . You need as well weblogic + soa files as the database schemas (soa_infra, mds...).

  • Setting up test environment for EBS

    Hi all !
We have r12 setup on RHEL 5.7 servers with SAN storage and 11.1.0.7 database. What are the best practices for setting up test environment for testing patches, fixes, etc. ? Should the test env be an exact replica of the production setup ? What if we can no more get the same hardware as our prod env now (due to technology enhancements from the vendors, etc.) ?
    Thanks in advance !

    Regards,
VinodYour TEST/Patch instance does not necessarily need to match your production in terms of hardware specs. However, you need to make sure you are running on the same OS and updates. UAT instance is the one that needs to be running on a hardware which is identical (or very close) to production.

  • Restore FARM production environment to test environment

    Hello,
We have installed a two-tier SharePoint 2013 Farm (1 SQL + SP 2013 server). We have now installed two new servers with SQL and SharePoint 2013. I would like to restore the production environment to this new test environment.
What's the best way to do this:
    1. Run the configuration wizard and install all service applicaties and restore the content DB's
    or
    2. Perform a farm backup of the production environment and restore this to the test environment.
For option 2: how do I need to prepare the new test environment?
All help and instructions are welcome.
    Thanks,
    Dennis

i would go with 1st option, it having 100% success in my case.
Install the SharePoint and run the config wizard, make sure test farm should macth the Pord Versions( mean you need to install all updates which you did in prod).
Create the services Application, Web application, deploy the solutions if any.
then take the backup of content db, move to test Farm Sql server, then attach to web apps.

  • Steps to Restore Production DB to Test Environment?

    Hi All,
I encountered a difficulty on restoring a production DB to a test environment on BPC (Microsoft) and would like to seek everyone assistance on how to do it,
so far the steps that I did,
    1. Installed fresh BPC APP and DB with different set of hostname than prod.
    2. verify the fresh installation BPC APP and DB is working
    3. restore the AppServer DB from production to newly created BPC DB
    4. update record in AppServer in BPC DB to point into this hostname, since restoration of the AppServer DB will point to the production hostname
    5. restore our BPC Database e.g. BPC from production to newly created BPC DB.
until this step then I hit issue that BPC DB can't be updated, it able to load the template but the unable to update the record.
any pointer on how to fix this error?

I've been recommending to upgrade to R12 but the Finance Users are reluctant for an upgrade and of the opinion that the R12 has many bugs and there will be issues after upgrade to R12.
R12.1.x is a stable release that many customers (including Oracle themselves) have upgraded to.
Once of the consultant is of the opinion that its better to re-implement R12 instead of Upgrade. He also tells me that R12 does not have sub-accounting and sub-ledger and trial balance reports in AP.Since I am not a Functional Consultant I could not comment on this.
The Finance modules have been completely re-written and fucntionality had changed for the better. Re-implementation typically costs upto 3 times more than a upgrade. Re-implementation is not necessary if the business model and process have not changed. What are the consultants justifications for doing a re-implementation (other than making more money) ?
Please advice if there are any useful docs which address the upgrade to R12 issues which I can share with our consultant and users.

  • Segregation of testing and the production environments- Oracle EBS implementation project

I am currently auditing a oracle EBS implementation and I need to test the segregation of testing and the production environments, How can I approach that ?

In Oracle EBS environments TEST and PRODUCTION are different systems altogether, you can say two entities which are identical in features/data but physically different. So you may have to test on below
1.) DB level passwords (different in both instances) and are following the statndard corporate policies.
2.) Unwanted application users are end-dated in TEST instances.
3.) Data is masked appropriately in TEST instances.

    NOTE:
    •     DO NOT Install into the default directories and do not allow spaces in file directories/path when installing the software, somehow experience has shown that the Oracle EBS does not handle spaces in file directories well, and results in untold hardship if ignored. E.g Default installation folder for an software installation may suggest C:\Program Files\ JDK 1.5, MAKE SURE you alter this to something like C:\JDK15. DO THIS FOR ALL SOFTWARE INSTALLED
    •     After each software installation, please reboot the system before installing the next piece.
    •     Make sure that all the paths to the bin folders for all software installed is included in the environment variables, and verify by typing path in the command prompt to display all paths listed
    •     If using CYGWIN (like I did, as I could not afford a software expiring on me nor could afford $500 for a test). You may choose all the modules available, but you do not need all (it will be an overkill to have the entire unix utilities and libraries on your windows box, unless you plan on learning unix commands or into heavy development requiring a unix environment, without wanting a unix machine) MAKE SURE you choose all the library options, all the development options and that should be OK. Then confirm after the installation by typing which, cc (or gcc), make(gnumake), ls, gawk(awk), grep (egrep) (IMPORTANT:Where one of the other in brackets exists, copy and rename the copy as the alternative). As a double sure – copy all of these into C:\Bin directory.
    •     If the Oracle EBS is downloaded, unzip all the files into the folder and ignore any suggestions that it will over-write other files such as the component.label files
    Installation Proper
    •     Run adautostg.pl – which you will find in the StartCD i.e the first file downloaded and unzipped. This will attempt to rearrange the installation files in the order in which the installation wizard – rapidwiz prefers and identifies the folders. (Saves you hand-holding the wizard by having to interact during the installation, pointing it to the relevant folders/files if not run) to create the staging area.
    •     Run Rapidwiz – either by double clicking the rapidwiz.cmd in the startcd folder (this would be the one in the staging area) or from the command prompt
    •     As required, point rapidwiz, to the bin folder of cygwin e.g C:\cygwin\bin (if this is as installed) in the place where it requires the MKS Toolkit
    •     Pre-installation Checks – rapidwiz intelligently tests all the necessary software and requirements before installation starts. A corresponding message to each parameter suggests the opinion of the rapidwiz whilst a green tick indicates the parameter is sufficient, other indicators may need reviewing. Please make sure you resolve each issue before progressing with the installation. This may lead to a waste of time if not resolved.
    •     Choose a single-node installation
(if just testing or practicing, you may also choose a multi-node if this is what you want.)
    •     If all the modules are not needed (I installed all), you may have to choose which modules you require, and state where you want the modules installed.
    •     Assuming all parameters are passed and installation begins, the different stages of the installation steps can be followed by the on-screen messages or log file reviews (each logfile directory will be displayed on the screen during the installation of each context).
    •     Post Installation Checks – Rapidwiz does some checks after an installation, whether successful or not, and provides a report. When an installation is successful. It confirms and provides the url to login. The default username and password for the system administrator is usually sysadmin / sysadmin. You are encouraged to create another user immediately.
For all who asked, depending on how far up your hardware scales in terms of specifications, the installation may take about 3 hours (at least mine did) or more.
Login on to Oracle EBS !
    The URL required for logging on to the OAM (Oracle Application Management - For the Apps DBAs) and OEBS (Oracle E-Business Suite - essentially for the Functional Implemeters/Consultants ) - The entire gamut (They are shown as hyperlinks), should be as follows;
    http://hostname(servername.domainname.com):8000/
where hostname is the same as specified in your host file e.g servername.domainname.com or .whatever-u-like
    and
8000 - is the default port, but you may have chosen your own port and that should be used in such a case.
N.B - The Forms server is often started when an attempt is made to access such an interface after login in to the OEBS. However, in my own case, it did not until I made sure openmotif 2.1 was installed on my SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.1. The windows installation started without any issues.
    If all attempts fails….
You may have to try and try again by deleting all installation files and starting all the installation steps again. It will help if you know how to edit your registry settings to delete all reference to oracle e-business (not all reference to oracle though, as some odbc-related entries have been installed by Microsoft and require your registry settings to function)
Alternatively, send me your box, your mailing address and a token (money of course, and I may be able to set it all up for you) – JOKING!
CAVEAT: I will not be held responsible if anything unsavoury happens to your system in the course of you following the steps I have highlighted above either correctly or incorrectly. However, if you are successful, please sing my praises all over the forum and ask that I be rewarded by Oracle!
