Restore Original Mavericks Power Button Functionality

I'm curious if there's any way to restore the original power button functionality that was present in 10.9? I know that the slight tap bothered people with the power button being on the keyboard for some of the newer macs, but I have a mid-2009 MBP so for me accidentally hitting the power button is not an issue. I really liked being able to hit the power button and have the computer sleep immediately, kind of like an iPhone. Is there any way to change it back to that? The new way where you have to hold the power button for a couple seconds is just annoying as heck to me now (I got pretty used to the way it was originally).
Is there a program or command I can enter to fix this? I tried Google searching for this, but a majority of articles and questions are doing the opposite.
Thanks in advance.

No. Sorry.
Best.

just setup windows 7 and noticed when i hit the power button on the mac air it just puts it in sleep, i checked the function setting in start bar in windows and its set for power button action to be shut off. any ideas?

maybe you and windows have a different idea about if it's a powerbutton or something else
I would look around windows power settings and try changing some of the other actions which it have set to put it a sleep and change that to see if that solves it

Hi Everyone. Don't Know If It's Just Me Having The Issue. Updated My Z3 To The New Android System Yesterday. Some Features I Like Some I Don't One Major Bug Bear For Me Is That There Is No Vibrate Only Profile Anymore. Tested Vibration And Works Fine When Phone Is On The 'Sound' (General No Silent) Profile But There Isn't A Vibrate Only One Like There Used To Be. With My Job Can't Have My Phone On Loud But When I'm Putting It On Silent I'm Not Getting Any Vibration Or Notifications! Help!!

  • HT201150 the new behavior of Mavericks power button does not make sense

It should go NOT to sleep when the power button is pressed...if people wants it to go to sleep just close the lid!
Instead, when the button is pressed, the dialogue box should show up asking people what to do.

    Some people don't have lids.

  • Disable all power button functions in Windows 7

I'm configuring some Windows 7 clients to be very locked down and only run a specific application.
They auto logon correctly and start the application, but I have been unable to completely disable the power button in the start menu so that the users cannot turn the machines off in any way. I have set disable logoff and removed access to shutdown, restart,
sleep and hibernate through group policy, but the button still defaults to logoff, with all the additional options in the arrow menu unavailable.
My only other thought was to try a custom GUI instead of explorer.exe, but would much rather do it through group policy or registry if possible.

I ran into this problem with Windows 7 at a radio station.  We needed to prevent our on air talent from performing any of the start menu power actions at all.  We have a Reboot Script should it need to be rebooted, and we can access the system
as administrator by holding SHift key during boot up.
We basically needed windows to be set up like a KIOSK, stripping and disabling - Shutdown, Switch user,  Sleep, Restart, Logoff and Lock.  here is what I have found to work.  I found this blog....

  • 5156-BX7 power button function

I have a Packard Bell computer with the above motherboard in it. Course it may just say PB on the front and someone stuck the mobo inside
But is there a way to setup the system so that pressing the power button in XP shuts it down?
When I first got the system pressing the power button in XP put it into suspend mode. APM was off in the bios and disabled in Control Panel/Power
I've got XP to shut down the computer(via start/TURN OFF)now by enabling APM in the bios + Control Panel\Power Options\APM tab.

  • Power button functions still available in lockscreen

    Hi all.
I find it to be a real concern that my power button options (airplane mode, turn off phone, etc) is still active when my lockscreen is active. IE, you can still switch off the phone even thought u didn't unlock it.
Can anyone help to disable this. It's obviously a security risk to me.
    Many Tx
    Reaper.

Unfortunately you cannot alter this, however the chance of this happening is quite minimal as it would require the power button to be pressed, released then held down for a period of time immediately after the release of the button and before it goes back into sleep mode.

How do I turn off the Power button lockout on my HPw1858 monitor?

    Hi,
    Power Button Lockout is displayed.
The monitor's Power Button Lockout function is enabled.
Press and hold the Power button for 10 seconds to unlock the Power button function.
If the above doesn't work then try a monitor reset.  Unplug the monitor’s power cord and hold down the monitor’s power button for 30-60 seconds. Plug the monitor back in and power it up.

  • HT201150 How do I configure what the Power Button does?

How do I configure my power button so hitting it does not automatically put it to sleep?
Because it is right by the delete key I am hitting it accidentally all the time.  Also my cat is constantly putting my computer to sleep when I am working.  Is there a config file or a hack I can use to force a dialog (Restart/Sleep/Shutdown/Cancel)?

Power button behaviourRe: after installing maverick power button does not provide options to sleep, shut-down
The first one is resolved but I can't see how. 10.9's pmset command didn't have the 'power button' setting when I looked recently, it looks like this feature was deleted to me.

  • Monitor message" Power Button Lockout"

New HP 23" monitor -  HP 2310m   Accidentally held down the power button too long; now I can't get the monitor to turn completely off. When the computer is shut off the monitor goes to the sleep mode with the orange LED (on/off switch) always lit orange. How can I turn the monitor off completely and clear the message  "Power Button Lockout"? thank you

From the manual: Power Button Lockout— Indicates the power button is locked. If the power button is locked, the warning message Power Button Lockout displays. ◦ If the power button is locked, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to unlock the power button function. ◦ If the power button is unlocked, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to lock out the power button function. Cheers,

  • IPhone 5 power button sometimes doesn't work under iOS 7

Hi, my wife has noticed the problem which started to appear on her iPhone 5 after she has recently upgraded to IOS 7.0.2
Power button randomly doesn't respond to power off the phone but never to power it on. Does anyone has similar issue?

The issue could be a faulty power button. There's nothing, that I'm aware of, in iOS 7 that would cause inconsistent power button functionality.
Make sure you depress/hold the power button long enough to see the RED power off slider.

  • Cannot turn off on power button efter upgrading to Yosemite

I usually turn off or stand by on the power button. But that does not work after upgrading to Yosemite; now I have to click the Apple icon instead. Not a big trouble, but still annoying. Can I set something up to reenable the power button? If not, does a shortcut key to the apple menu exist?

The power button function has changed a little from previous versions of the OS
