Restoring all archivelogs from a backuppiece for RAC DB?
Is there any way to tell rman to restore all archivelogs from a backuppiece (or backupset, which are equivalent in my case)?
Why I want to do this:
I want to restore quite large number of archivelogs (to recovering a standby database) from multiple backuppieces. I don't have enough space to restore them all together, so I need to restore the archivelogs, apply and delete. I know that RMAN allows to selectively restore archivelogs. However, I am facing problem as follows
- from scn ... until scn ... (or timestamp): The SCNs (or timestamps) of the archivelogs in different threads do not aligned well. As a result, in order to cover all archivelogs in a thread, RMAN will read another backppiece for the archivelogs across the boundary for other thread, doubling the time for the restore.
- from sequence ... until sequence ... thread ...: It seems impossible to specify both threads and make RMAN read once only.
It seems to me the solution is to restore all archivelogs from a backuppiece (or backupset), or the option to specify archivelogs one by one in single restore command, but both options are not available.

Finished restore at 2013-06-03:17:48:32It seems the best I can do is to specify a SCN range as large as possible, so that only the first & last backuppieces need to be read twice.
I also checked DBMS_BACKUP_RESTORE (though I am not sure whether RMAN use this), and seems there is no procedure to do what I want.It is good you restore 2 archived log sequence 10883 thread 1 and archived log sequence 6643 thread 2.

First of all, why did you say yes to Nero Back up before researching what it does with files already on the HDD? When I install Nero, the Back Up is the first thing I disable, it is a nagging pain, there are much better backup programs available. There are several file recovery programs out there to recover deleted files, that is, if that is what happened. Also, if you haven't overwritten the files, so you should be able to find them.

Flash Player Update disables "restore all windows from last session" in Safari on Mac
I am on Mac OS 10.9.5, using safari 7.1.2. Adobe Flash Player Update loses all safari windows when after update the installer automatically opens safari and just opens flash player website; the "restore all windows from last session" is grayed out in history. The "reopen last closed window" is also grayed out. It has been happening ever since and happened again when I just installed Flash Player ver 16.0.0.257.
For all other normal working situation I can close safari and reopen and see that I can "restore all windows from last session" and there is no problem. But on flash Player install (set on manual install), the problem is annoying and costs me a lot of time to restore one by one from history. I do not think this is a Mac or a Safari issue, but will update to Mac Yosemite help if Adobe Flash Player is updated differently in that setup?
Please help.Update: I called adobe flash player technical support phone number 1 877-587-1877. They want $59 (warranty only 6 months) to fix this problem as they use a third party to solve this issue; they themselves provide no support. Or buy the paid version. They insist it is my network issue which I absolutely can not believe.
It is adobe Flash player update that forces reopening of safari and wracks the safari losing all windows from last session. That is not my network. Adobe does not have a proper safari compatible flash player update.
Besides, this is a known problem at Adobe and they are not fixing it and want money to fix it one person at a time! They also shared that 25% to 30% of the installations have this problem... wow!! and they still will not fix it in a general update! I wonder if safari has a plug in update that can fix this? -
I restored my iPad 2. I'm unable to re-download "Newsweek" purchased issues. It is an "in-app" purchase. I'm tapping "Restore All Purchases" in the Newsweek for iPad app, but it is not restoring. I see the "Buy" button next to a purchased issue.

How can i restore all items from my iphone back to my itunes account?
I recently had to restore all factory settings on my laptop due to a virus so have lost all apps, music, etc. on my itunes account. All items are still on my iphone and thought they would automatically return when syncing, sadly did not happen but have two options........... Apply? or Revert? one will move everythung back to itunes, the other will remove everything from my iphone. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have had my Iphone 5 for a little while now and today I connected it to Itunes to download a movie to my phone. I thought I had to restore the phone so I restored it back to my iphone 4. I deleted all the new ringtones I just bought and I lost all photos and notes I had on my iphone 5. Is there a way to unsync?? Is there a way to recover what I lost. I downloaded wondershare but I can't recover from an Iphone 5 and I hadn't synced the iphone 5 with itunes until today but again i restored it back to iphone 4 data.

When you plugged it in, iTunes said 'Oh goody! You got a new phone! Would you like to make it just like your old phone?'...
You explicitly said 'Yes'.
You can't undo that.
No backup of the current state of the new phone was made. It was wiped and the last backup of your old phone was restored to it.
Anything you had on the new phone is gone. -

This is not the first time I encountered this issue. The backup file itself is 18.5MB in size. The critical stuff is my 21800 messages (emails for 7 different email accounts). Whenever I do a restore, the DM only reads 13859 messages and unfortunately not in reverse order. So I end up with no emails for the last 7 months! BIG PROBLEM for me! I have done a selective restore. I have done a complete wipe and then a full restore (no success), then deleted all data and tried a selective restore and only selected the messages (still only around 13,500 messages).
There appears to be a limitation around the 13500 mark for messages.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE help.It's been a while since I used Apple's Backup, but you should be able to select "Restore" from within the app to find an iCal backup file. When you find your most recent backup file restore it to your main computer. An iCal backup should look like this: "iCal - 10/31/06.icbu". Once you have the file you can just double click on it and iCal will open and give a warning about overwriting your current database file. You can just select "Revert" to overwrite the current file since you have nothing in it now. Everything should then go back to the state it was in since your last backup. You might lose some of your most recent entries if they were not in the backup, but you should get back most of what you lost. Good Luck!!

Restoring ALL files from Time Machine
I replaced my hdd in my iMac and after installing my OS I used the Migration app to restore my files, settings and apps. That went pretty good until I went to look for something through Time Machine that was prior to my new install. Time machine would only go back to the date of my new install. All the other windows behind that date were black and not accessible. Did I do something wrong and is there a way I can fix it?
First make sure you have read & write access to the folder you're trying to restore to. You should be able to see its contents in the Finder, and to move files in and out of it.
This is an exception to the rule that you should never make any changes to backup data. I've tested this procedure in OS X 10.8 only. It should work with later versions, but I don't know whether it works in earlier versions. Use this procedure only for files that were backed up from your home folder, or a folder on another volume created by you, and would normally be writable by you. Do not touch backups of system or application files.
In the Finder (not in the time-travel view), navigate to the backup volume, then to the folder named "Backups.backupdb", and then to the snapshot you want to restore from. The snapshots are folders labeled with the date when they were created. Inside each of those folders is a file hierarchy like the one on the volume that was backed up. Descend through the hierarchy until you come to a folder named "Users," and inside that, a folder with your user name. The procedure will be different if you're trying to restore files on another volume.
Select the folder and open the Info dialog (command-I). Click the padlock icon in the lower right corner of the window and authenticate. In the Sharing & Permissions section, give your account Read & Write access. You may have to close the dialog and repeat this step in order for the change to show up. Then click the gear icon and select Apply to Enclosed Items from the popup menu.
Try the restore operation again, in the time-travel interface. -
Safari crashed - Now keeps restoring all info from date of crash - Unable to reset

My Safari crashed back in April and the restore function saved all the open web sites, history, cookies, settings etc from that day. Every time I restart my computer my Safari goes back to the April settings which is very annoying.
I have tried to reset safari, erase everything but this has not worked. Safari also goes back to April settings after opening it after a Force Quit.
I have also tried clicking the box for opening up previous applications upon restart in the hope that it will remeber the settings and applications open up at the time but this is not functioning as it is mean't to.
Any suggestions or assistance would be appreciated.Read this whole message before doing anything.
Back up all data.
Quit Safari if it’s running. Then select ▹ Force Quit... from the menu bar. A small window will open with a list of running applications. Safari may appear in that list, even though you quit it. If so, select it and press return. Close the window.
Step 1
Hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar. Delete the following items from the Library folder (some may not exist):
Caches/com.apple.Safari
Caches/com.apple.WebKit.PluginProcess
Caches/Metadata/Safari
Preferences/com.apple.WebKit.PluginHost.plist
Preferences/com.apple.WebKit.PluginProcess.plist
Saved Application State/com.apple.Safari.savedState
Leave the Library folder open. Try Safari again. If it works now, stop here. Close the Library folder.
Step 2
If you still have problems, quit Safari again.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
rm -fr $TMPDIR../C/com.apple.Safari
Quit Terminal. Launch Safari and test.
Step 3
If Safari still doesn’t work right, quit, go back to the Finder and move the following items from the open Library folder to the Desktop (some may not exist):
Cookies/Cookies.binarycookies
Preferences/com.apple.Safari.LSSharedFileList.plist
Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Preferences/com.apple.Safari.RSS.plist
Preferences/com.apple.WebFoundation.plist
PubSub/Database
Safari
(Note: you are not moving the Safari application. You’re moving a folder named “Safari.”)
Try again. This time Safari should perform normally, but your settings and bookmarks will be lost.
If the issue is still not resolved, quit Safari again and put all the items you moved to the Desktop back where they were, overwriting the newer ones that will have been created in their place. You don’t need to replace the files you deleted in step 1. Stop here and post again.
If Safari is now working normally (apart from the lost settings), look inside the “Safari” folder on the Desktop for a file named “Bookmarks.plist”. Select File ▹ Import Bookmarks from the Safari menu bar. Import from that file. Recreate the rest of your Safari settings. You can then delete the items you moved to the Desktop.
Note: This step will remove your Safari Extensions, if any, and their settings. If you choose to restore them, do so one at a time, testing after each step to make sure you haven’t restored the problem.
If you don’t like the results of step 3, you can undo it completely by quitting Safari and restoring the items you moved or deleted in that step from your backup, overwriting any that were created in their place. -
How do I restore all bookmarks from an external hard drive to a refreshed firefox?
I just "refreshed" Firefox and lost ALL of my passwords, even though the instructions said they would be saved. I have tried copying them from the Old Firefox Data folder and this does NOTHING. I have all of the data I need on an external hard drive and the ability to browse ( have already found my Firefox profile on the backup drive) and copy and paste data from that drive to my C drive. Please tell me EXACTLY how to transfer my bookmarks to the refreshed version of Firefox. I have YEARS of bookmarks that I CANNOT AFFORD TO LOSE. I will be more than happy to simply restore my old profile even though that will slow Firefox down. That would be a small price to pay, but I must have the bookmarks back. Please help!

I'm curious if there is a batch file that can be made to move the contents that are setup like this....
I'm having to redo a TS cluster and I'd like to make a batch file script that can be executed that moves the contents of say 'jsmith's local desktop profile @ \\NGTTS1\users\jsmith to a centralized folder on our roaming desktop profile server that saves
all of the files for the desktops @ \\NGTFS1\users\jsmith.
The problem I have is no matter what I tell users to save there files to our Y drive that is a folder that is synced across all 6 of our TS servers, users still store files on there desktops, so as you can imagine if one day they are on one server, then
next day they could be on another and there files aren't the same.... hence the reason why I want to move all there files to the centralized server so when I redo the profiles from scratch on the TS server in the farm they suck files from the core server and
have all of the files they are used to having....
Now I know I can do this with a MOVE command I've just never done one to this exact.
Hopefully someone knows the command to move all the contents of one folder on one server to the folder on a different server. I've already got the bulk of the coding done of the .bat script I just don't know this move command:

exitIn Windows we would do this using Group Policy. There is a Policy setting that csn move the Desktop folder to any server you want to move it to. Once set it will automatically do this for you.
You should post in the Group Policy forum to find out how we use Group Policy to manage users profiles in Windows.
You cannot use a script to relocate a users Desktop folder. The desktop is locked by the time the users logon script is finished running. It the desktop and profile are already being managed by Group Policy then this can only be done with GP.
There are also numerous issues associated with deployment and re-deployment that you need to address Post your questions in the Winows Deployment forum to get assistance with deployment issues.
Again - want you are asking is not generally possible because of how Windows is designed. This would only likely work on a simple system or on a stand alone PC and then only under a very limited set of circumstances.
Use GP folder redirection to do this. For deployment use Deployment Forum and for TS specific issues post in the RDS forum.
All of this needs to be considered correctly for TS users inn a TS Cluster environment. (TS Cluster?? - not sure what you mean by that.

I was curious if someone know how to move all the files of a user "local" profile on a Terminal Server to that of a centralized server where the "local" profile of like the user desktop, favorites, setting, etc are stored in the event
the local profile on the TS become corrupt it can pull from this server...
The problem I have is no matter what I tell users to save there files to our Y drive that is a folder that is synced
across all 6 of our TS servers, users still store files on there desktops, so as you can imagine if one day they are on one server, then next day they could be on another and there files aren't the same.... hence the reason why I want to move all there files
to the centralized server so when I redo the profiles from scratch on the TS server in the farm they suck files from the core server and have all of the files they are used to having....

To move all users’ desktop to a server, we can use Folder Redirection to do this. The path for Folder Redirection is:
[Group Policy Object Name]\User Configuration\Policies\Windows Settings\Folder Redirection
In this situation, we can choose to redirect desktop to the root of a network file share or a folder on a network share.

Removing All Data From Time Capsule For Sale
I recently purchased a new 1 TB Time Capsule and have a 500 GB Time Capsule I plan to sell. What is the best way to restore the Time Capsule to how it came out of the box new? I would like to wipe my backup data off the hard drive and have the settings for the Wi-fi back to default settings so the new owner doesn't have any issues.

To prevent your data from being recovered, choose +Zero Out Data.+ One pass is plenty; you only need multiple passes to try to prevent the CIA or NSA or the like from recovering it. And of course, if they really want it, they already have it . -
