Restoring backups from non-default location

Hi,
I am currently trying to set up dataguard in a vmware configuration as in [this link|http://www.oraclerant.com/?p=25]
How do I specify that I want to restore the database from (in my case) the c:\backup directory as everything seems to default to the flash recovery area

Yep, there are errors in V$archive_dest.
They are referring to the archive_log_destination in my flash_recover_area on the standby server and
use_db_file_recovery_area on the primary
The alert_log had a lot of errors (But I think that this was because I deleted some directories in the flash_recovery_area).
I restored them and renamed the old_alert log
also this was on the primary:
WARNING: OMF is enabled on this database. Creating a physical
standby controlfile, when OMF is enabled on the primary
database, requires manual RMAN intervention to resolve OMF
datafile pathnames.

How can I restore a couple of archive logs from a location which is not the default backuplocation to a directory which is not the original location?
So far I've come to this:
SET ARCHIVELOG DESTINATION TO 'D:\temp\';
RESTORE ARCHIVELOG FROM SEQUENCE 1 UNTIL SEQUENCE 100;
But how do I tell RMAN that the backup where it has to look is located?

You should first catalog the archive logs so RMAN knows where they are. You can catalog them with:
RMAN> catalog start with 'D:\temp';

When you launch iPhoto with the option key depressed you'll get this window:

9. Select network, enter password and join network
10. You'll be given 3 options (a) Setup as New iPad (b) Restore from iCloud Backup (c) Restore from iTune Backup

Hallo... seems I have problem with downloading backup from my older ipad mini (16gb) into newer ipad mini retina (32gb)... during the first setup it aksed me if I want to restore backup from older device, but since my older ipad and its backup was on ios 8.0.2 and newly purchased ipad was still on 7.1.2 i needed to skip this and upgrade os first. now I have new device set up and running ios 8 but I can not get into it backup from older device. what to do?

Resetting the iPad back to factory defaults should take you to the setup process and let you restore to an iCloud backup : Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content And Settings
Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes :
You can go through the iOS Setup Assistant again by erasing all the content on the device. Just tap Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. This will remove all content from your device, so do this only if you already have a backup. The iOS Setup Assistant is the only way to restore a backup.

When I turn on my new iPhone 5s, I have to select a language and county and then my only options are to restore backup from iTunes or restore from iCloud. I have already restored form iTunes, so what am I doing wrong?

When I try to turn on my new iPhone 5s, the ONLY options it gives me is to either backup from the iCloud or restore backup from iTunes. I have already restored the backup from iTunes, so I don't know why it keeps telling me to restore the backup. And why won't it give me any other options? I can't text, call, etc. My phone will do NOTHING.

It seems you restored from a blank back up if it is still asking you to choose one of those options. Set it up as new then manually restore from back up with iTunes on your computer and be sure to check the date of the back up an which phone the back up is from.

How do I prevent icloud from overwriting my contacts when doing a restore backup from PC to iphone?

My icloud contact list is screwed up. I have my contact list in my PC backup. I've removed icloud from iphone AND changed apple ID and icloud ID, yet when I attempt to restore backup from PC to iphone, my correct contact list shows up momentarily, then reverts to the screwed up icloud contact list.
I understand that my PC backup is set to connect to icloud; however, one would think by removing the email address associated with apple or icloud that it would not be able to connect to icloud when I do a restore backup from PC to iphone. Yet each time I find icloud connected via my old email address after attempting the restore.
How do I fix this? This seems like an icloud bug, since it connects via my old email/ID.

The problem may be that the iphone is immediately syncing with icloud and losing the newly restored data. You might turn off your router. Once restored, turn off icloud on the device, turn on the router, then turn on the iphone.
(I'm going by memory on this, and that hasn't been too reliable lately.)

If you mean the passcode to your iPhone, here's the solution:

If you mean the encryption password to your backup on your computer:
Warning: Make sure it's a password you will remember or write it down for safekeeping. If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and forget your password, you can't restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable.
If you can't remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and chooseset up as a new device when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore.

Does your iPhone 5 IOS is later than iPhone 6 IOS?
If true, you need to update your iPhone 6 before you can restore from your backup.
If not, is iPhone 6 connected to power supply?

A few days ago I've deleted data and settings from my iPad and updated it to 8.1.2. Then, I wanted to restore backup from iCloud, but got error, that I can't restore my backup. Tried three last copies, other wifi, many solutions from support - the same error. Support said me, my backups are broken. And they can't help me.
OK. I've found some programs in internet for download backups and restore it. Only trials. And they work, they see my backups, download and show me my data. I need to buy program to restore data to my iPad. I don't want to buy, because, if that programs can restore my data, why Apple support can't do this?
