Restoring from particular backup set
Restore from a particular backup set with same tag names
I have multiple backups of the database with the same tag name.
I would like to restore oldest of these backups.
For Ex:
0n 6/15 1st full backup
On 6/17 2nd full backup
On 6/18 3rd full backup
I would like to restore the backup made on 6/15. When I try to restore the db like follows
run
restore database;
It just goes to the latest one which was made on 6/18. I had to make 6/17 and 6/18 backup sets status unavailable so that it picks 6/15
Is there any otherway, I can pickup 6/15 db while doing restore
You can use until clause:
run{
set until time "to_date('2008-06-15 17:00:00','YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS')";
restore database;
I am assuming here that the backup was taken before 5pm on 06/15.
Reddy.

DUPLICATE TARGET DATABASE TO "11demo"
I try hit and try for determining sec part.
is there a proven way.
'28-Aug-2011 03:40:31' worked
'28-Aug-2011 03:40:38' didn't
'28-Aug-2011 03:40:35' didn't.

you can get "SET UNTIL SEQUENCE thread "
correctly,
But How does one find out the exact time the backup was completed?
I simply used the timestamp from the Rman backup as an approximate indicator.

iTunes is recoznizing my iPod as a new iPod and only gives me the options of set up as new iPod or to restore from a backup. I put my old backup on it and everytime I plug it in it still recognizes it as a new iPod. I've tried restoring it several times and it doesn't help anything and I've also uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it but it didn't help. Please I really need some help I can't download any music with it doing this.
There maybe better ways to do this, but this worked for me when things stopped working a couple of updates back.
Try this; Make sure your stuff is backed up on your computer first. plug the iPod to your computer and do the restore to factory setting. Then set up as if it's a brand new out of the box iPod. (DON"T use your backup copy) Go through all the steps of first time set up. Once complete, add back all your stuff, music, apps, pictures, etc. from your computer. I know it's a pain, but it worked for me.
By the way; the reason I'm doing this total restore is the RED square in the RED circle. All my music downloaded from CDs became unreadable / unplayable today, (worked fine yesterday-- today crap!!) and none of the fixes listed in this forum would work for me. So I started over, after the restore, the RED circles are gone and my music is playing.
Hope it works, Good Luck! -
I'm setting up my new iPhone and already have an iTunes account. It's asking me if I would like to set up as a new iPhone, or Restore from the backup of my iTouch. If i set up as a new iPhone will that delete all my music from my previous iTunes account?
It will not do anything at all to your computer.

I just updated my iphone to ios7 and I keep getting stuck at the 'Set up your iPhone' screen. I click 'Restore from Itunes Backup', but it only ends up restarting after restoring and fails to get past the 'Set up your iPhone' screen. Any ideas?
Normally, I would suggest restoring the iPad and uninstall and reinstall iTunes but you have done both of those things - more times than you ever imagined!
Have you thought about turning auto syncing off?
Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
If you do this you can backup the iPad right away before it syncs. You may want to go into all of the iTunes tabs and just make sure that all of the current content on the iPad is selected to sync before you actually do sync.
This doesn't solve the problem, but it would prevent the automatic sync and erasing content. Hopefully, in the next few days- when iOS 5 is released - you will also be relieved of this weird iPad behavior - since the iOS devices are supposed to become PC free.
BTW - and this is no excuse for what you are experiencing, but I have found that some of the game apps that I had on my iPad turned out to be quite troublesome and after I removed them, my problems went away. I know that is almost sacrilege with regard to the Angry Birds addiction .... But I'm just saying ... -
When setting up my new iphone I had to skip the "Restore from icloud backup" stage because it would not connect. How do I now get back to this so I can restore from a previous iphone?
Settings - general- reset- erase content and settings gets you back.

RESTORE detected an error on page (0:0) in database as read from the backup set
Hello Experts-
I am facing a very bizarre situations here, I was trying to restore a database from server 1 to server 2, first I take backup manually and then copy the backup to the server 2 location and restore it easily, I do this all the time but now I am getting this
error:"RESTORE detected an error on page (0:0) in database <database>as read from the backup set</database>". So I tried to verify the backup with restore verify only and I get the message the data is invalid. Here is the bizarre part,
I tried to restore the same database from the backup taken by my backup job automatically and it worked and I restore verify the data and it is valid. So, anytime I took a manual backup and try to restore it I get an error, but I can restore the backup from
my backup job, please advise and share your experience , thank you.it is a dynamic query that runs and take backup of all the dbs except the one we don't want, and the version is sql server 2012 sp1 on server. Part of the backup query

I just went from an iphone 4s to a 5 and I'm trying to set it up and I don't know if I am supposed to back it up by "restoring from the last back up ? Which I thought was last night, but apparently it is saying my last backup was Nov. 14th. Or do I choose "set up a new iPhone"? Which do I choose?
My new phone automatically grabbed all my contacts and caldendar, notes, etc from the cloud, just don't know what do do from here.you can get your playlists and apps back by syncing with itunes.
restoring from a backup is generally the quickest way to get everything back on the phone. -
i got a new Iphone 5C and I backed it up as "Restore from ICloud" backup and it's all old stuff I dont want on the phone, can I go back and redo the back up as a new phone set up??
Go to Settings > General > Reset, then tap Erase All Content and Settings
then when you start again, set it up as a new phone -
someone tell me how I can sync my music to my iPhone without it saying on itunes "set up as a new iPhone" or "restore from the backup of: iPod"
You must be trying to sync it with a different computer than the one it used last. No, there is no other way to do this.
The iPhone may be synced to one and only one computer at any given time. If you choose to sync it to another, you can do that as often as you wish, but its content is erased first. -
i had my iphone replaced yesterday and wondering if i am suppose to set up as a new iphone or restore from the backup of the iphone
Actually, they will both accomplish the same thing on a new
(different). The difference is that setting up new will lead
you through all the questions and such and restore from backup
will just do it.
So, if there are some things that you may want to change
as far as syncing,mail, etc., set up as new. If you want
nothing to change, go the restore route. -
i just got the iphone 5. i am setting it up now. i had an iphone 4 before and i want everything transfered over. do i set it up as a new phone or restore from itunes backup?

I have a new ipod touch and it says choose to set up as a new ipod touch or restore from a backup. If I choose restore from a backup will my old ipod continue to maintain the ability to be synced on my same account?
Yes. It will not effect your other iPod.
However. change the name of the newer iPod if necessary to avoid confusion if the second one is named the same as the first

any thoughts
If you want to restore the settings and data from your old phone to your new one, restore from the backup of your old phone (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2109). You will still have to sync with iTunes to transfer apps, music, and other iTunes media back to your phone.
