Restoring from rac to standalone

We have a production oracle database 9.2.0.4 (RAC) on AIX 5.0 with datafiles inplemented as raw devices. How can I restore it to a standalone AIX 5.0 machine with oracle 9.2.0.1 installed on it alongwith datafiles as raw devices with same names by using the hotbackup taken from RAC (using manual scripts not RMAN).

I want to bring my database to the state of 31July. After getting some information I need it to extend further to 10Aug. I have controlfiles backed up using 'alter database backup controlfile' of 31July and 10Aug and hot backup of datafiles as on 27July.

  • Restore a database from RAC to standalone oracle server

    Hi,
    I wanted to know whether we can restore a RAC database to a standalone machine. Steps which i am planning to do
    1) Create a stand alone server
    2) Install oracle in the same path as that in RAC
    3) Create a database of the same name
    4) Re direct Restore to this location from RAC database
    The database is non asm. Can any one let me know whether RAC database support redirect restore.
    Amith

    This is possible.You won't have to create the new database though. Rman will do this for you (after all, you restore/recover a full database). It is much easier when you also use ASM on the destination but is you do not want to use asm, you can still use rman to rename/relocate all datafiles to a non-asm location.

  • RMAN backup restore from RAC to single instance ASM

    Hi,
    We are using oracle 11gR2 on AIX 6.1,
    We need to restore RMAN backup from RAC to single instance ASM,
    Im new to RAC & ASM, What will be the changes
    What will be steps involved into it.
    Thanks

    Hello,
    Refer this MOS doc *HowTo Restore RMAN Disk backups of RAC Database to Single Instance On Another Node [ID 415579.1]*
    On the Single Instance ASM, you need to specify the diskgroup name for the parameters "control_files, db_create_file_dest"

  • How to restore (not duplicate) DB from RAC ASM to non ASM

    Hello everybody,
    i am trying to recover db from RAC+ASM to non ASM no RAC node. I am running Oracle 10g (10.2.0.4) on Win2003 Server. I have functional backup from my prod system.
    Here are my steps:
    *1. On prod server i make backup running this script in RMAN*
    configure channel device type 'SBT_TAPE' parms'SBT_LIBRARY=oracle.disksbt,ENV=(BACKUP_DIR=e:\backup)';
    RUN {
    backup device type SBT_TAPE database tag zal20081129;
    SQL 'alter system archive log current';
    backup device type SBT_TAPE archivelog ALL tag zal20081129;
    *2. I prepared clon instance on another server (The same Oracle version) and start it to nomount mode.*
    *3. I copied the backup from prod server to clon server to exactly the same path. (e:\backup)*
    *4. I connect to RMAN on my new node and I use the DBID parameter and I restore controlfile.*
    rman
    connect target /
    set DBID 3079749916
    startup nomount
    run {
    allocate CHANNEL CTAPE DEVICE TYPE 'SBT_TAPE' PARMS'SBT_LIBRARY=oracle.disksbt,ENV=(BACKUP_DIR=f:\backup)';
    allocate channel CDISK DEVICE TYPE DISK;
    restore controlfile from 'f:\backup\78k91lrn_1_1';
    alter database mount;
    *5.Then I check the backup, crosscheck etc.*

    So obviouslly database wants to open online logs in the path like ASM. Which is wrong. What should I do to tell database to open it according to init.ora parameters
    *.db_create_file_dest='e:\oradata\agost'
    *.db_create_online_log_dest_1='e:\oradata\agost'
    Any suggestions???

    Hi,
    thanks for you quick answer. But I do restore to the local file system, even if the log says:
    restoring datafile 00001 to +DATA/agost/datafile/system.272.668509367
    restoring datafile 00002 to +DATA/agost/datafile/undotbs1.273.668509387 .....
    all the datafiles are correctly restored. I think oracle uses the parameter db_create_file_dest and creates the files there.
    I tried also the script with SET NEW NAME:
    run {

  • Restore from cold backup (rac server)

    Hi All,
    Oracle version : 10g
    OS : SunOS dixie1 5.10 Generic_118855-36 i86pc i386 i86pc
    I am having cold backup of RAC server (2 nodes), I want to restore from cold backup.
    The problem is that : when i performed the cold backup using rman at that time Oracle was having 3 ASM diskgroups.But unforunately that disk is no more in use due to some fault.
    Now my question is how can i restore from the cold backup as when i'll restore from the cold backup this will ask for the same ASM diskgroups.Even more if i creates the same diskgroup with the same name and same configuration then my doubt is that rman will allow me to restore the same from the cold backup as ASM disk header changed now ?
    Thanks,
    Vipin

    Yes.You can do these and restore/recover your database.First you need startup your ASM instance then create your ASM disk groups and do following:
    1.Edit pfile and change controlfile location to diskgroup(Consder that +dgr1)
    2.Restore controlfile to this disk group using backup of controlfiles(you say that is cold backup)
    rman target /
    /*Instance  need starting up from pfile*/
    startup nomount ;
    /*then restore controlfile,give full path of controlfile from coldbackup*/

    Hi,
    Loss of the Oracle Cluster Registry file affects the availability of RAC and Cluster Ready Services.
    The OCR file can be restored from a physical backup that is automatically created or from an export file that is manually created by using the ocrconfig tool.
    Additionally, starting with Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2, Oracle can optionally mirror the OCR so that a single OCR device failure can be tolerated.

    I am not sure what you mean by "OS replication".
    Whether you use RAC or a Failover Cluster, the database has to be on Shared Storage (which requires no "replication").
    RAC licence costs are higher than that for a Failover Cluster because both instances have to licenced and the RAC option has to be purchased.
    Of course, if the two nodes together are limited to 4 CPUs, you could consider Standard Edition to reduce the licencing costs.
    DBA skills requirements are also higher for RAC.
    With respect to your question "...will be sufficient for the avaialability purposes" it really depends on what your requirements are. People use RAC for Avaialability when it really is better positioned for Scalability. If you want only availability and can afford a few minutes downtime, and each node in the cluster can individually handle the user/batch loads, a Failover Cluster would suffice.
    I suggest that you raise this question in the "Database - General" forum : General Database Discussions
    or the "Real Application Clusters" forum : Real Application Clusters
    "Replication" is the wrong forum for such a question.
    When you do re-raise your question, please clarify your understinding of "OS replication".

    I think it's QuickTime player causing the problem, when I try to open it I get the windows error that an error has occured
    Let's try swapping out your QuickTime again, taking a few extra explicit precautions this time.
    Head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
    Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx. (If “Hide filename extensions for known file types” is enabled on the PC, then those two files will appear as “QuickTime” and QuickTimeVR”.)
    7. Restart your computer.
    Now download and save a copy of the latest standalone QuickTime installer to your hard drive. (We'll run the install from there rather than online.)
    Latest Quicktime Installers … get the one that doesn’t mention iTunes
    Switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install. Start the install by doubleclicking the QuickTimeInstaller.exe.
    If that install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching iTunes again. Does your iTunes launch properly now?
    (If you get an error message on the QuickTime uninstall or standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. Include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • Create new db from RAC cold backup

    Hi Team
    i need to copy cold database from one server to another server . and build an new rac database out of that cold backup .. i have done it for singel node instance . but do you know if i have to do something special for RAC instance .. or simply below mention steps are enough to build RAC database out of cold backup
    oracle version is 10.2.0.1
    1. install software and clusterware on new set of machine
    2. copy cold backup on that set of machine
    3.copy spfile and controlfile
    4.open the database up with controlfile,spfile and dbf files
    now i am not sure on one thing if i have to do something special for RAC DB or its like single instance.

  • Firefox 29 crashes restoring from json

    Restoring from json causes firefox 29 to hang , try with FF 27 ,also, same problem.
    Have used selecting json from list and by "choose file" option. Have tried many different json files. Same problem. Regrettably , I do not have any HTML versions of these bookmarks.
    Acording to FF help, I should be able to close the Library window after selecting the restoring bookmark file, but I just get the busy cursor , and clicking on the X (top right of window) results in crash.
    Have tried erasing current bookmarks and did a restore , same problem.
    Is there any standalone json-to-HTML converter available??

    Well, this is embarrassing. I guess I do have that many bookmarks since I left the "restore" running and returned to it after several hours , it went through. I am not saying it took that long but probably more than a few min.s .
    I guess it is time to do some house cleaning after all these years. I have the list since the Mosaic days , so I guess it gets piled up. Some of the sites are probably defunct.
    "Your live bookmarks are in the places.sqlite database,...."
    I suspected as much since it is also a large file.
    Actually, I manually make copies of the profile folder , not just the bookmarks. Actually the whole user directory so settings of other programmes are saved also.
    I will try another restore from another json file after work and make sure it really works , so don't close this thread just yet!

  • Restoring from RMAN tablespace backup ; Few questions

    11.2.0.3/RHEL 5.8
    We have a RAC DB which is used by more than 20 applications. One schema for each application and one tablespace for each schema.
    We have a schema with 130gb in size. All Objects in this schema use a single tablespace MCS_DATA.
    This weekend we are applying some changes involving DDL, Code and Data .Usually we take an expdp backup of the schema before the activity starts and later if something goes wrong with script deployment we'll revert to old state by dropping the schema and doing an impdp from the expdp backup.
    Question1.
    Can we do an RMAN tablespace only backup and if something goes wrong with script deployment can we drop the schema and the tablespace and then create an empty schema and then restore from the tablespace backup ?
    Question2.
    If the above is possible , can you explain how it is going to work out because we are essentially plugging (restore,recover) in a tablespace to the database. Any potential problems ?
    Question3. If the above (Question1) is possible, will restore/recover of this tablespace require a downtime for the entire DB ?

    Tom;
    If you are talking about RMAN TSPITR then yes you can. See - Purpose of RMAN TSPTIR in Backup and Recovery User's Guide E10642-03.
    The problem with TSPTIR is bulk. You need a lot of disk space to create a copy and then data pump the information out and back in. I just tested this on 11.2.0.3 and its slow. RMAN created a script which produced an AUX instance and did the data pump, but I had clean up afterwards. If it errors out you can have an AUX instance hanging out in the background.
    For TSPTIR you will need an area on the disk to server as an auxiliary destination large enough to hold what you are recovering plus the SYSTEM, UNDO and TEMP tablespaces.
    I would probably look at Transportable tablespaces as a possible option too.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E25054_01/backup.1111/e10642/rcmttbsb.htm
    E10642-03 has a section for recovering a tablespace in chapter 2. The Tablespace must be offline, but the database can be up.
    This uses "restore tablespace" and "recover tablespace" commands. You would perform this type of recovery when you are say missing a datafile. You can recover any tablespace except SYSTEM and UNDO with this.
    Data Pump might be an option too, but given your tablespace size I would have worries about recovery time. Oracle lets you set compression
    and a limit to each file produced.
    expdp TABLESPACES=YOUR_DATA dumpfile=DATA_PUMP_DIR:ts_dumps_%U.dmp LOGFILE=DATA_PUMP_DIR:ts_dumps_log.log parallel=2 filesize=10G compression=ALL
    Given the size of your database a better option might be something like Data Guard as your recovery time would be brutal.
    Best Regards

  • RMAN cloning from RAC to Non-RAC

    Hi Gurus,
    I had successfully cloned my DB from RAC to Non-RAC environment via RMAN. Below was the configuration
    RAC
    - 2 nodes
    - 11gR2 (Compatible 11.0.1.6 as per Application Requirement)
    - ASM (2 diskgroups DATA and FRA)
    - OS RHEL 6.3
    Non - RAC
    - 1 node
    - Stand alone11gR2 (Compatible 11.0.1.6 as per Application Requirement)
    - ASM (2 diskgroups DATA and FRA)
    - OS RHEL 6.3
    My approach was to clone DB and then change SID with nid utility. My understanding was that nid utility will also replace ASM file paths from CRAMPRD to CRAMSIT but that didnt happen.
    So issue is when I am checking my file paths on CRAMSIT it still refelect CRAMPRD eg - +DATA1/CRAMPRD. Is there any way to rename this directory paths in ASM so that it should reflect my SID.
    Regards,
    Nikhil Mehta.

    No, NID wouldn't change the ASM paths.
    I presume that you did set the ORACLE_SID to CRAMSIT on the non-RAC server before the restore.
    What you should have done is to set DB_UNIQUE_NAME='CRAMSIT'   (even with DB_NAME='CRAMPRD') on the non-RAC server before the restore.  Oracle would have used the DB_UNIQUE_NAME to set the ASM PAth  (note that during the restore it would have shown "restoring to +DATA1/CRAMPRD" but would have actually been restoring to "+DATA1/CRAMSIT").
    You will now have to use Oracle Support Note
      How to rename/move a datafile in the same ASM diskgroup [ID 564993.1]
    to rename the paths in ASM.

  • RMAN duplicate from RAC with ASM to RAC with ASM

    I'm still reading and trying to figure out how to duplicate...and I'm finding that there are some extra considerations you have to work with with doing a RAC system.
    Does anyone have any good links to articles/docs that spell out what to do in this scenario?
    I'm wanting to duplicate from tape backups, using NO connectivity to the source/target....
    My tape backups do include the spfile and control files (autobackup) from the source.
    Thank you in advance,
    cayenne

    damorgan wrote:
    Possibly you are confusing a database with a database.
    A RAC database is a just a database. What is different is the instances, the clusterware, and the storage: For example ASM.
    A backup is a backup is a backup.
    Can you be more specific about what you are trying to do, on what hardware, operating system, version, and edition.
    RMAN can not create an instance either RAC or stand-alone.Thank you for the reply.
    I have my source system, OS = RHEL5, running Oracle 11Gr2...5 node RAC cluster.
    I'm doing RMAN backups to tape...hourly arch. logs, Daily incremental lvl=1 backups and weekly incremental lvl=0
    None of the tape backups have ever been tested for restoring...and I've never restored a database myself before, total noob here.
    I have a test area I've set up. I have a 2 node RAC cluster, running 11Gr2 and OS=RHEL5.
    The tape is accessible from both systems.
    I am wanting to test the tape backups...and thought the RMAN DUPLICATE process would be the way to go.
    I am wanting to NOT connect to the source database...trying to simulate somewhat of a disaster recovery scenario. I'm only wanting to use tape backup, and the test area for the auxiliary instance.
    So far what I've seen I need to learn to do is something like:
    1. Create a password file for new aux database to be duplicated to
    2. Establish Net connectivity...
    3. Create initial parameter file for aux instance
         Due to a bug in note:334899.1, add this (because of RAC system)
         norecovery_through_resetlogs=TRUE
    4. Start aux instance NOMOUNT
    Everything I'm reading though...is basically doing this from single instance to single instance...and what little info I've seen on doing it from RAC, indicates there are some differences. The "_no_recovery_through_resetlogs=TRUE" is one thing I found...but wondering what else.
    Also, so many of the examples I'm finding...are doing the duplication connecting to the target/source...and also doing backups to disk rather than tape...
    Right now, I'm at #1...trying to figure what to put into an init pfile...I'm seeing DB_name, which will be the same as the one I'm cloning from.
    I'm not sure what else....
    I'm wondering if this is necessary..since on the tape backups from the source...I backup the SPFILE...can that not be used somehow in this?
    I'm seeing for the init file, examples show that I need to put in entries for control files and redo logs....if the source system was down and gone...how would I know where these were on the old system? This isn't documented anywhere....is there a way to do this if you didn't know.
    If not..guess I need to go through all systems and document the layouts of where everything is located.
    Also...most examples I'm finding, in addition to being single instance backup and restore/duplication...they are all using regular file systems....not much to go on with using ASM.
    Anyway, I'm trying to learn here...and am having trouble finding examples to go from that match my setup.
    Thank you in advance,
    cayenne

  • IPad 2, restore & setup as new, then restore from backup?

    Confused yet? I am!
    So here we go, yes, I'm new to the forum, I've had my iPad 2 since Oct. 2011. And No, this problem isn't in my head.
    Last week, I finally updated to iOS 5.1.1, and I deeply regret doing so. I had NO issue before the update, and now, my battery is garbage.
    I used to be able to go 2 - 3 days before having to charge and that's with an average of 4 hours a day. Now, after just a few hours (5) I have to charge and it takes forever. I've been working with Apple, but they having given me an option I'm happy with.
    1) Mail my unit back to them to switch out with a refurb. I am against this option as I like my unit. I didn't originally buy a refurb and I should have to accept one now. The screen on my unit is perfect, no bleed or dead pixels. I've taken immaculate care of mine and I'm afraid I'll get a unit I'm not happy with. Plus, it will be running iOS 6, which I'm not ready for.
    Option two is...and this needs to be done whether I return my unit or not, is a restore and setup as new. Which means I would loose all my information buried deep within my apps. This would also install iOS 6 on my unit.
    My question is this...
    If I do a Restore, Setup as new, can I then go back in and do a restore from back up, to put all my stuff back in its place.
    I'd love to hear from anyone that has any insight, suggestions, experience, or comments about this.
    How did you handle it?
    What was the outcome?
    Did you involve Apple in the resolution?
    Or,
    Is it just not worth dealing with and I should just keep using it until it won't take a charge.
    I know there have been a million posts about this, and I've read a lot of them, but I just haven't found a solution yet.
    And before anyone states the obvious, ALL locations are off, all email accounts are set to manual, there are no notifications set.
    In the past week, I've done 3 reset all settings, drained battery until system shut down, and did an uninterrupted full charge.
    I've reset network settings. I make sure apps are closed by double tapping Home button, and done a hard reset by holding power button and home button until apple icon appears. I'm at a loss, and don't know what else to do.

    First, make sure you are using the most current version of iTunes 11.1.3 (8).  Second, what version of iOS 7 was your old phone running, i.e. 7.0, 7.0.1, 7.0.2? If your back-up was made with a version of iOS that is newer than the version on your new phone, it will not sync. For example, if your back-up was of a phone running iOS 7.0.4, and your new phone was running 7.0.2 out of the box, the back up will not sync to the new phone until it is updated to iOS 7.0.4.

  • Restore from Time Capsule after Hard Drive Crash

    The HD on my iMac crashed Christmas Day. I have been running backups on Time Machine to a Time Capsule since I purchased the iMac (and also backing up a MacBook Air), but never had any occasion to see if it worked.
    I yesterday got the computer back with a new HD installed. When I tried to do the restore from Time Capsule from the Setup Assistant which ran on start up, I could not get past the initial screen. It kept hanging up on "Opening Time Capsule," and then on one occasion it found only the MacBook Air back up volume.
    After some research here, I tried running the utility after booting from my Snow Leopard disk. This time, it immediately found the backups from both computers, but hung up on opening the iMac backup.
    After more research, I ran the disk utility and repaired the HD on the iMac. It finally worked -- I woke up to a "Restore Complete" message (it started around 10:00 pm last night). The iMac started up without a hitch to the way it looked Christmas morning. The only problem I have noticed is that my most recent events in iPhoto are empty. The thumbnails are there, but no pictures. I tried to rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager, but no luck. Any ideas?
    The other thing I noticed is that I had to reauthorize the computer for my iTunes purchases. Will Apple fix that so it doesn't chew up my last remaining authorization?

    think about the speed of wifi here
    speed at 802.11n = a theoretical 540Mbps (less in real world scenarios)
    Mbps = Mega bits per second
    MBps - Mega bytes per second
    8 bits = 1 byte
    8 mega bits = 1 mega byte
    How long would it take you to download a 1 gig file from the internet wired into your modem? About 10-20 min? And that is taking into account that the info is being uploaded hardwire. Now imagine that same file over wireless in your home being upload by the Airport card in your computer. People over look upload speed when considering these things. The wireless upload speed of your Airport card is what is limiting this. Just a limitation of the technology, not a fault of Apple just stating the numbers here.
