Restoring your Mac Book

I recently attempted to restore my mac book per the nstructions.  I tried to erase and restore using the disk utility at the start up by holding the command and R key.  When I tried to erase the 500.11 media drive I received an erro, could not dismount drive.  I the erased the MAC HD drive and then tried to re-install OS X Lion and received an error as well. Any Ideas, advice, help?

Not So Lucky Ned?
I tried to erase and restore using the disk utility at the start up by holding the command and R key.
When you do this your booting from a hidden partition at the bottom of the same drive.
When I tried to erase the 500.11 media drive I received an error, could not dismount drive.
Right, because you can't erase the entire drive while booted from any partition on the drive.
I the erased the MAC HD drive...
Right you can do that.
...and then tried to re-install OS X Lion and received an error as well.
Ok, quit the Lion installer and Open Disk Utility again and select the Macinstosh HD partition.
Now click the Erase and use the middle/right selection and click erase, it will take a bit to complete.
When finished, quit Disk Utility and log onto your Internet or use a Ethernet cable to the router or modem. You will need a fast, relaible Internet connection, or else take it to someplace you can.
You will need your AppleID and password.

If you want to erase the disk, reinstall Mac OS X and your Mac didn't come with DVDs or you have OS X Mountain Lion or Lion:
    1. Press Command and R keys while your Mac is starting.
    2. Open Disk Utility, choose Macintosh HD in the sidebar and erase the drive.
    3. Install Mac OS X.
If your Mac came with DVDs:
    1. Insert the OS X DVD that came with the Mac and press C key while your Mac is starting.
    2. Go to Utilities > Disk Utility, choose Macintosh HD in the sidebar and erase the drive.
    3. Install Mac OS X

Given what you describe you will have to upgrade Snow Leopard by downloading and installing Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. Then go to the App Store and sign in with your Apple ID. Purchase and download Mountain Lion to upgrade your OS. Then purchase the latest upgrades for the iLife applications which includes iPhoto.
Or you can go on eBay, Google, or Amazon and purchase another copy of the DVD based iLife.

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPhone?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).
Also consider deleting and reinstalling the Mail Account in question.

  • What do you do if your Mac Book video card does not meet the Minimum requriements ???

What if your Mac Books video card does not meet the minimum system requirements

Just for the record it was an Early 2008 iMac 20" (MB324LL/A) with the ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB of GDDR3 memory in it.
Not sure why or how but overnight the system has decided to try and run the update again and this time it has updated all the apps.
The machine is running the apps fine and there are no real issues with the performance (other than the fact its over 5 years old, but thats understandable).
Im going to put it down to either a minor glitch in the update that was corrected fairly fast or just a hiccup from an old machine.
Thansk for the responces anyhow guys.

  • Do you have to turn off your Mac book pro ?

Do you have to turn off your Mac book pro ?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you aren't going to use your MacBook for days, turn it off to save battery. If not, you can leave it in sleep mode. Sleep mode doesn't consume a lot of energy and allows you to start up your Mac in seconds, being faster than turning on the MacBook, so it's better to leave it in sleep mode

  • How to restore new mac book from time machine

i curentley have a mac book and am planing on upgrading to a pro but i have to sell this one first. can i restore my new mac pro using the time machine backup from this mac book or is there another way i have to do this being as i wont have both laptops at the same time??
    thanks for any help..

If you can recover the old machine (may not be worth the cost), then you could deactivate directly. A lot depends on what crashed, the HD, mother board, or other. On a PC, the hard drive can sometimes be recovered with SpinRite as long as the crash was not fatal. There are other tricks too, but all of them depend on the crash conditions and what the problem is. If the hard drive is actually good, maybe you could just put it in another machine and run the deactivation. Of course, not everyone has a bunch of machines on hand to play with. For PCs, I often head to the department surplus pile and see if I can find something to work with (not my stock). If I find a working machine there, then I just swap it out. Of course, that is for work machines. For a home machine, I might do it for testing or repair and then put things back after the repair.

  • After Restoring My Mac Book Pro it takes over 3-5 minutes to start!

I have a macbook pro version 10.6.5 it recently crashed and I restored it with my time share backup and now it takes a good 5 minutes to start up and is very slow in opening safari pages. What can I do to get it back to running on normal speed?

How much free space on the startup disk?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you have a minimum of 15% free disk space.
Freeing Up Hard Disk Space - Mac Guides
And check System Preferences > Accounts / Login Items. Delete any apps you have listed there to launch when you startup your Mac.

  • On average how long does your mac book battery last?

Mine runs about 1.75 hours on average while doing my best to conserve the battery. I would like to get an idea from other mac book owners how long their battery lasts, so I know if something is wrong with mine.
I know there are a number of factors that come in to play in terms of how long your battery will last. For instance, i know that if you have a lot of applications open, and if you have blue tooth device it will cause your computer to have to work harder and in essence will cause your battery to run out faster. It just seems like mine runs out real quick (1.75 hours). I have the check mark by "better energy savings" and close my applications as well.
I will also say that I did not calibrate my battery when i first got it being that this is my first laptop and i didnt know. I calibrated it about a month after i got it. However, prior to the calibration i had it hooked up directly from a power source all but one usage. Being that it took so long for me to calibrate my battery, is it permanently damaged?

A charge capacity of 4860, while being below average, is not a complete didaster and is not the cause of the 1.75 hour usage. Mosre than likely your failure to calibrate is the reason for it being below average. I does say to calibrate ASAP in the user manual that comes with your MacBook.
Now, to help with your battery time the things that affect the batery time the most are…
    1) Processor performance. Make sure your Energy Saver setting are set for maximum battery savings.
    2) High processor usage. The more you use you procossor the lower your battery times. So, you will get better battery performance when checking/writing e-mail and web surfing that you would encoding video. I often use a tool like MenuMeters…
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/17713
… to keep an eye on my processor usage.
    3) Screen brightness. This is a huge battery user and you should set this as low as is comfortable. High battery times require the screen to be set to minimum values. One spot (minimum) is the norm.
    4) Wireless networking. As this is always on it does chew up more battery that you would think. Turn it off when you don't need it. I actualy created a "no networking" profile in my Network System Preference for when I want to maximise battery performance and have no need of internet/networking.
    5) Bluetooth. This also consumes quite a bit of power for something that is not used much. Turn it off as much as you can when on battery.
