Restrict number of entries in Select-Options

Hi,
I would like to restrict the number entries in select options. Lets say I have select options field defined for GL and I want only 10 GLs to be entered on Select-Options. If more than 10 Gls then it should give message that GL count is exceeding its Limit.
Please may I know how I can do this ?

Try this if you want to restrict rows in s_matnr for example.
At selection screen.
data: line type i.
describe table s_matnr lines line.
if line > 10.
Message 'Error' Type 'E'.

or else if you want only 10 Materials to be selected then try this.
At selection-screen.
if s_matnr-high - s_matnr-low > 10.
Message 'Error' type 'E'.

Maximum number of entries in select options is only around 1630, you cannot give more than that
i guess it is around 1600 - 1700
chk this program , if u increase the do loop to 1800 it will give dump

Is there any restriction on no of entries in Select-option-low ?

Is there any restriction on no of entries in Select-option-low ? I have a select option which has 22 thousand entries and the select query is thrwoing a dump.
Any inputs ?

Hi Ankur,
1. i had faced same problem.
2. Virtually the limit in SELECT-OPTION low
   is not the problem.
3. The problem is with SQL query and database limit.
4. The R/3 system generates final database query
   in the form of (for select option)
   FIELD IN ('ABC','DEF','XYZ',........'')
5. Now Oracle/SqlServer
   has limit of THESE IN VALUES.
   limit is something in 2500 approx.
6. So your approach will not work
using IN.
   It will always give error when
   entries are more.
7. SOLUTION which i did.
   1. First select all appropriate records from
      master table in your itab
     (without using IN select option clause)
2. After that use this concept.
     Loop at ITAB.
     If Itab-Field in SelectOption.
     Else.
     DELETE ITAB.
     ENDIF.
The above will take care for any number of records.

How to restrict values displayed using a select-options

Can someone please tell me how to restrict values displayed using a select-options.
Example- in my table I have 100 entries. However when the user will click on the required field- I want to be display only 25 options based on a given value of another field in the table.

DYNP_VALUES_READ.
for that value filter the internal table values and pass the table to f4 help of the field.

How to pass Multiple entries of select-options to FM

Hi friends,
        i need to pass values date_from and date_to of FM BAPI_AR_ACC_GETSTATEMENT in my report. i have select-option in the selection screen for the posting date i.e, s_pstgdate-low = date_from and s_pstgdate-high = date_to.
    My question is how to pass values if the user enters multiple entries in s_pstgdate (selection-screen).

Hi,
This is not possible.
You may wish to call it multiple times with each row of your select-option, and consolidate the returned records.
Better is to restrict the select-option with no-extension.

How to restrict f4 help values in select options of Employee Search

Hi,
I am using HRASR_EMPLOYEE_SEARCH for employee search and created a new query ,infoset , usergroup which is responsible to fetch the selection criteria and result.I have one field in the search criteria as Cost Center which is connected to P0001-KOSTL.f4 help for that field fetches all the values(Local cost center,starts with M and Global Cost Center,starts with G)
I want to filter out the f4 values in WDA so that it can fetch values only starts with G

Hi Bala,
Do you mean to say that when the user gets the OVS popup he should be able to use wildcard characters like G* in there? If thats your requirement then thats quite possible. You can do this within the phase 2 of the OVS. You first read the values that were entered by the user in the restriction screen by saying something like:
assign ovs_callback_object->query_parameters->* to <ls_query_params>.
You then fetch the desired attribute into a local variable like:
lv_matnr = <ls_query_params>-matnr.
Then you can say like:
REPLACE ALL OCCURRENCES OF '*' IN lv_matnr WITH '%' .
SELECT <your fields> FROM <table> INTO TABLE lt_select_list WHERE MATNR LIKE lv_matnr.

Restrict no. of entries in the multiple selection of DOCNUM of EDID4 tab

Hi,
Is it possible to restrict number of entries in the multiple selection of DOCNUM of EDID4 table.
i.e., Select the content button on se11 for EDID4 table. We can see the selection screen of the table. Press the multiple selection button of 'DOCNUM', we get a popup. Is it possible to restrict the no. of docnum entry to 500. If i enter more that 500 entries, it should popup a message.
Please share your ideas. I am working on 4.6c.

User is trying to import the docnum values from presentation server file using the 'Import from text file' icon on multiple selection popup. As the no. of docnum were 4500, during the execution of this process, other process trying to connect to oracle is going for short dump with message 'Run-time error (Oracle error code: ORA-4031)'. So user wanted to restrict it to 500.

Validating select-options entries

i need to check whether all entries in SELECT-OPTIONS range are valid or not.
*my select-options field is s-pernr as below.
SELECT-OPTIONS: s_pernr FOR pernr-pernr.
*all valid entries from PA0000 table will be selected into pernr_table.
SELECT DISTINCT pernr
        FROM pa0000
        INTO TABLE pernr_table
        WHERE pernr IN s_pernr.
now i have to check all invalid pernr's in s_pernr.
s_pernr contains: 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.
PA0000 contains: 1, 2, 5, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15...
then pernr_table = 1, 5, 8, 10 only.
that means pernr 6, 7, 9 in s_pernr were invalid.
How to fetch these values as s_pernr is SELECT-OPTIONS field and it may have any combination of values.

As far as what i get from your question is, user put multiple values in the LOW field of the select-option and you have to
check all the values entered in the select-option-LOW field.
If this is the case, you can loop at select-option as show :-
1) create an internal table of type
BEGIN OF ty_pernr ,
   sign(1)   TYPE c,
   option(2) TYPE c,
   low       TYPE pa0000-pernr,
   high      TYPE pa0000-pernr,
END   OF ty_pernr.
2) create workarea of type ty_pernr.
data wa_pernr type ty_pernr.
3) loop at the select-option.
loop at s_pernr into wa_pernr.
    SELECT single pernr
   FROM pa0000
    INTO TABLE pernr_table
    WHERE pernr eq wa_pernr-low.
if sy-subrc ne 0.
     "give error message.
endif.
endloop.

How To... Change the Data Type for a SELECT-OPTIONS at run time.

I am trying to restrict the values available for entry into a SELECT-OPTIONS at run time depending on user input.
The logic is as follows. The user has two input fields. A PARAMETER field which has the type RSDIOBJNM and allows them to choose an InfoObject. And the user has a SELECT-OPTIONS field to allow them to select the Characteristic values for that InfoObject.
I would like the following example to be possible:
The user enters 0MATERIAL into the PARAMETER. When the user clicks on the SELECT-OPTIONS control code will derive a list of possible options the user can enter in the SELECT-OPTIONS. In this case only values found in the master data or at least no values greater than 18 characters.
I have looked at the following function module SELECT_OPTIONS_RESTRICT and this do not appear to be helpful as they only restrict on the signs allowed for the values (unless I misunderstand, it is a complex function module!).
The code I have so far is (thus the user enters a InfoObject into p_char1 and the select options so_char1 should only accept active values of that InfoObject):

You really want to restrict possible values of a select-option based on another field, not change the length of type of the select-option field, right?
Here is what you do: Code a custom F4 value help for the select-option at event AT SELECTION-SCREEN ON VALUE REQUEST FOR.. The first thing you do here is read the value of the parameter field (p_ipack in your example). You can use function module DYNP_VALUES_READ. Based on this value, you can propose values for the select-option fields. Note that the use can still enter whatever s(he) wishes in to the select-option field without pressing F4. In this case, you will have to code some input validations taking into account the value in the p_ipack field.

SELECTION-SCREEN END OF SCREEN numb.
define a user-defined selection screen with screen number numb. All PARAMETERS, SELECT-OPTIONS, and SELECTION-SCREEN statements that occur between these two statements define the input fields and the formatting of this selection screen. Screen number numb can be any four-digit number apart from 1000, which is the number of the standard selection screen. You must also ensure that you do not accidentally assign a number to a selection screen which is already in use for another screen of the program.
From your screen program in which selection screens are defined, you can call these screens at any point of the program flow using the following statement:
CALL SELECTION-SCREEN <numb> [STARTING AT <x1> <y 1>]
[ENDING AT <x2> <y 2>].

Select options and loop statement

Dear forum,
I have the scenario where i need to restrict the loop from the select-options.
in the select-options, user enter currency.
then in the loop i need to loop base on the currency user enter.
may i know what steps should i use for the loop as loop cannot support where.

as per your requirement.
you have some data in your internal table also you have a select-options to input values.
on the basis of the values in your select option you want to fetch the values from your internal table. right???
then there should be a field like your select option in your internal table.
select-option: s_matnr for mara-matnr.
let assume you have an internal table with matnr and other fields also and your select-options is for mara-matnr.
then you need to select the values in your internal table according to the values in your select-options like below.
SELECT MATNR field1 field2........ from dbtable into table itab where matnr = s_matnr.
the above code will give you the values matching the values in your select-options.
you need not to apply loop becasue you already have only those values for which yo u have found records in the DBTABLE.
in case you want to apply loop on an internal table on the basis of s_matnr's values, then you can write.
in this scenario you need to define 2 internal table one with already fethced values and another in which we will fetch the values according to select-options.
loop at itab into wa_itab.
read table itab1 into wa_itab1 where matnr = wa_itab-matnr.
write statement........
endloop.
before that youwill have to fetch values in itab according to s_matnr.
