ResultSetMetaData.getColumnLabel bad bug

I have a situation where the following occurs:
I have a prepared statement that I execute returning a result set.
// Execute the query
ResultSet results = ps.executeQuery();
I then pull the meta data from the result set.
ResultSetMetaData meta = results.getMetaData();
int cols = meta.getColumnCount();
I loop through the result set and pull the values, the column type and the column label.
// Put the result into the hashtable
while (results.next()) {
for (int i=1; i<=cols; i++) {
     // if obj type = CHAR strip trailing blanks
     switch (meta.getColumnType(i))
     case java.sql.Types.CHAR:
     obj = results.getObject(i);
     if (obj != null) {
          hReturn.put(meta.getColumnLabel(i).toUpperCase(),
               obj.toString().trim());
At some stage the getColumnLabel starts to return nulls instead of strings (actually the only this seems to happen is with numeric types), even while still within the same result set, and even though a previous call has been successful!!!
This problem does not occur with Informix JDBC against the Informix DB or with the Merant JDBC Drivers against Oracle 8i
It does occur with HP-UX 11i, JDK 1.3, JDBC drivers for 8i and 9i as loaded from the CDs and downloaded from the OTN site. We have tried against Oracle RDBMS 8.1.7 and 9.0.1
Using the debug jar and setting tracing on shows nothing obvious.
Any ideas? otherwise it's $2.5K to Datadirect for every system we ship or shifting back to Informix...
Regards, Chris

  • ResultSetMetaData.getColumnLabel(int coluN) gives column name with quote

    I am using ojdbc14.jar for "Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0". My query is "Select 'column name' from dual". When i get column name using ResultSetMetaData.getColumnLabel(int coluN) it return column name including single quotes ie: for the above query result is 'columname'. Ideally it should not return ' (single quote).
    Why do this happening?

    You will have that even when you run with sqlplus.

  • WHY do we get a %*# update every 2 weeks while the 1 really bad bug (fonts and sizes randomly changing when typing) persists????

    Is there any way to STOP TB from sending updates every couple of weeks (and BTW this has slowed down/crashed TB increasingly in the past couple of months) UNTIL they fix this really irritating bug of randomly changing fonts and sizes when writing a mail? Outlook doesn't do this, Apple mail doesn't do this, so TB stop spamming and start addressing real problems for a change!!!!

    It would be helpful perhaps to focus on "the real issue" of font size and compose, rather to digress into how vendors choose to deliver the product.
    font issues arose in the past year. I forget exactly when. It is quite a bad problem. My recollection is it was a serializer change not done by Thunderbird developers, and that part of it was fixed in version 24. But I could be wrong.
    Would you be willing to try version 31?

  • Bad bug with ID3 tags of different case for same artist

    My itunes files and music library are on a different drive than my boot drive. It is an internal drive (always on) in my Mac Pro at /Volumes/Media1/iTunes with music library at /Volumes/Media1/iTunes/iTunes Music. iTunes is setup to automatically keep it organized and copy files to the media folder when adding. It has been this way for years, never a problem.
    Just recently, and I think this may have coincided (but I'm not sure) with a 10.6.5 Snow Leopard update, my music started disappearing! The entries were still in the library, but with the missing exclamation mark in itunes with it reporting that it couldn't find the files. But only certain artists. After searching my computer, I found the missing files it at the same path, but on my boot drive, at /Media1/iTunes/iTunes Music/<missing artist>!
    Trying to add these files back to my library would work briefly, but then they would magically disappear out of /Volumes/Media1/iTunes/iTunes Music and go back to /Media1/iTunes/iTunes Music/
    I figured out the one thing the different artists that had this behavior had in common - some of the ID3 tags for the same artist, which are the basis for organization, were in different cases. I think there is a weird case sensitivity bug that is breaking things. When I add back only those songs for an artist with ID3 tags for the artist of the same case, the behaviour stops.
    I'm posting less looking for an answer and more to raise visibility and hope this gets a fix.
    Example entries from my iTunes Library.xml, notice how the 'k' in OutKast is a different case in the entries.
    <key>Artist</key><string>OutKast</string>
    <key>Location</key><string>file://localhost/Volumes/Media1/iTunes/iTunes%20Music/OutKast/Speakerboxxx,%20Th e%20Love%20Below%20(Disc%202)/13%20Pink%20&%20Blue.mp3</string>
    <key>Artist</key><string>Outkast</string>
    <key>Location</key><string>file://localhost/Volumes/Media1/iTunes/iTunes%20Music/Outkast/Aquemini/12%20Spot tieOttieDopaliscious.mp3</string>

    I'd like to note that I'm experiencing the exact same issue. I'd add to this but petegas4life has it spot on. I'm just replying in hopes this thread gets noticed so the engineers at apple can look into this and hopefully fix it in the next release.
    Reproducing the problem is pretty simple too. Just take one song from an album and change the case of the artist name. You'll see the music move to the boot drive and all of the songs from that artist won't work in itunes anymore. And if you're relying on iTunes to edit the tags, fixing the files is a PAIN because they keep disappearing on you.

  • Upgraded to Firefox 4.0.1 for Mac, constantly freezes and crashes, have to force quit, bad bugs. Switching to Safari.

    I upgraded to Firefox 4.0.1, and it now constantly freezes, won't respond at all, and has to be force quit and restarted. Within less than 5 minutes of use, over and over and over... I'm assuming it is a bug in the Mac version.... Am switching to Safari as I can't waste this much time constantly quitting and restarting and getting my tabs all back up. Any suggestions on ways to let Firefox know about the bug would be greatly appreciated. It worked fine until I upgraded :( Am running Mac OS X 10.6.7

  • Hi - HELP PLEASE - I have had a bad bug, now fixed, But Have Lost the Library in iTunes - how can I transfer the music and artwork content of my iPone back to iTunes so that I have a base library again

    Hello - can someone help me please - I am not really well versed in modern electronics
    So, as I mentioned in my heading which is rather long (sorry lol) I have had a bad computer virus, now fixed, which has lost me a lot of information. This includes the content of ,my iTunes Library and my ability to access it.
    So, can someone help me by telling me how I can gethte music currently in my iPhone back in to the Music Library in my new version of iTunes. Aslo hiow do I now get Album Artwork in to iTunes as well - iI recall that it was really easy when I set it up but this new version is causing me all sorts of heartache when I tried just now - hence my plea for help.
    I hope you can help and that I can hear fromoyuvery soon
    Thanks guys
    Keith

    iDevices are not backup devices.
    Use the backup of the computer to put the content back on the computer.
    If not backup exists and the content was purchased via iTunes, connect the device and select File > Transfer purchases.  This will not restore playlists, playcounts or any other library specific data.
    If the media was not purchased via iTunes, search google for ways to extract it from the iPhone.
    Whatever you do, going forward make sure you back up your media and other important files regularly.

  • Bad bug in refactoring BC. 10.1.3

    I found a very hard problem in refactoring BC : all my added code was lost (I noticed in VO, till now).
    I simply moved from a package to another.
    It's a very, very bad problem wich makes refactoring useless.
    Is there some workaround ?
    I found another problem in the same operation, many (if not all) references to domains are not converter and then it produces many compilation errors.
    Tks
    Tullio

    I don't know if You can reproduce in that way.
    I discovered I didn't loose all my VO methods but only some methods and then I don't know if such simple test is enough to reproduce.
    I loosed some (not all) "added" methods (more or less 10 over 100 Vos) and not some code within an exixting method.
    Finaly I can confirm the problem related to domains.
    References in entities to domains wich are in the same project and are refactored produces 3 different kinds of errors :
    . the original import is not removed (double import)
    . the new import is not added
    . some method signature are changed in the wrong way (they relate to the original name of the domain).

  • Bad bug: transfer outside calls to paging, holds system hostage!

    I've been doing UC500's for 6 years, and I never knew about this bug until a large client of mine experienced it not once, but twice. I have recreated the problem on my UC560 as well. Here's what happens:
    1. Outside call comes in.
    2. Staff answers the phone, but instead of hitting the softkey "Park" they hit the speed dial "Page".
    3. Staff member hits the transfer softkey
    Now the outside caller is on the overhead page to all phones, with no way to reach them to reconnect or disconnect! While paging is active, staff cannot use their phones!! All handsets are tied up by the paging system. The first time this happened, the caller hung up after a minute. The second time it happened, the caller yelled to the kids in the background, said some choice curse words, and finally hung up after 2 minutes.
    I recreated this problem, but have not found a way to retrieve the call and disconnect it. Any suggestions?? Any way to stop it from happening in the first place??
    thanks!
    tracy

    Well of course it depends on the client... some really do want to be able to transfer an external call to the paging. In any case, you can hang up an incoming page to "get your phone back"... though I doubt this really helps you.
    The only possible workaround for your scenario that I can think of would be messing with the transfer-pattern's in CLI (under telephony-service -- see the "Cisco CME Administration Guide") to block transfers to the paging extensions.

  • Bad bug crashes JDev 10.1.3 consistently during XML editing

    This bug is very easy to reproduce (which I've done on Max OS X and Windows XP):
    In JDev, create a new XML document.
    Enter the following under the auto-generated <?xml line:
    <!DOCTYPE beans PUBLIC "-
    After typing the "-" the IDE will get cranky and hang itself forever.
    For the curious, this doctype relates to the Spring framework...

    Hi Robert,
    Thanks for posting this. It's a known bug in the preview release (I coincidentally ran into this problem a number of weeks ago while also using Spring and reported it). The bug has been fixed in our internal development builds and therefore will be resolved in 10.1.3 production.
    In the meantime, you can avoid the problem by pasting the whole doctype declaration into the code editor rather than typing it manually.
    Thanks,
    Brian

  • Have you become an alcoholic due to a bad bug?

    3a.m in the morning, six hours since I set sail to resolve a nasty hidden bug in my current application. Oh lord why could I not spot this earlier!!! Now i'm going to get tipsy to dull the frustration. Feel free to post some horrible bug stories, I look forward to reading them tomorrow.
    Dukes if I truly feel sorry for you from the bottom of my heart.

    Did you people ever work on a conponent that has dependencies on other components? That's my regular joy of work and I finally succeeded in making the head of development understand that it's also a political issue. Our stuff depends on the business applications providing us with data when we call them for input.
    And of course, if those calls fail and end up in an exception, it's our app that brings up the error message. So we're well-known for having an app that never works. One day when I was working foir another customer it went as far as this:
    - we drew a baseline on our stuff
    - they took our baseline to work with.
    - they did development work on their data providers
    - they tested the whole thing and it worked
    - they did more development
    - tests failed
    Reaction? They called me saying "your stuff failed again". Sure. They were the ones to make changes, but it obviously didn't matter. Anyway, having seen a lot of voodoo by then I tried to take a look. But couldn't get at the logs. So I asked them "do you have any server logs of the test?" To which in reply they gave me logs from two days later. :p But somewhere in all that stuff I found an entry by Websfear going like "data provider: transaction open and idle for more than 600 seconds - transaction rolled back".
    If they had taken even one look at their own server logs after they ran their tests after they modified their code, they would have seen the problem right away. But I guess it's too much to ask... instead, I had to spend two days trying to analyze what might have been wrong with my stuff.

  • I can't export .oam files any more. What gives? A big bad bug? Anyone got a work around?

    I was doing great with Edge until last night...when the .oam publishing feature vanished. I'm pasting small animations into my Muse pages, so this was a great thing, in theory, anyway. Tried restarting the app, tried restarting the computer, always opened the .an doc to work on the project. Thing is, it works once in a while...like once in 20 tries. Why? What's the deal? This app just not ready for the real world yet?

    Hi, sdotkling-
    A couple of questions:
    Are you saving first?  We don't allow publish for new, unsaved files.  (It seems like you're working on an an file first)
    Do you have any errors in the warnings panel?  Look in the lower right hand corner in the Stage panel.
    If neither of these are the case, please post your entire project file on a file sharing site so that we can take a look at what you're trying to do and advise you.
    Thanks,
    -Elaine

  • Bad Bug in iPhoto 8 exporting videos to folder

    I have recently been archiving my photos by making a DVD slide show, and also including the original photos on the data portion of the DVD. I typically would make a slideshow in iPhoto, and then export all of the files in the album to a folder, which I would then put onto the DVD to access later with iDVD. I noticed in iPhoto 8 that when you choose File>Export, and select Original format, that it DOES NOT export the Videos correctly, like it had in iPhoto 6. It actually only creates a little image of the first frame. I learned this the hard way. And to top it all off, I tried to grab the files with TIME MACHINE, only to realize that you need to restore the ENTIRE iPhoto library, you cant just do a few videos. BUNK!!!
    Apple Please get on top of this. Time machine is USELESS if I have to restore my entire 40 gig iPhoto library, and lose all the work I've done that day. Luckily I am craftier then you, and manually accessed the photos on the drive, which is a chore to navigate. Most people aren't as savvy. Git er Dun!

    cmelious:
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. It's working correctly for me, i.e. exporting with Kind set to Original. What version of iPhoto are you at? Have you installed the latest iPhoto update as well as the iLife Support 1.1.1 update?
    If you have try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and try again.
    If that doesn't help then:
    1 - create a new text library, import a couple of video and photo files and try again. If it works you library is the culprit. If it doesn't work try #2.
    2 - log into another account and try from there. If you don't have another account it a good troubleshooting tool. Create a plain, non-administrative account, run iPhoto to create a new library, import a couple of video and image files and try the export. If it works then something in your primary account is the culprit and could be a damaged pref file for some other app that iPhoto uses. Here's how to check that out.
    Trouble Shooting Preferences in Leopard
    1 - Create a folder titled "Preferences A" on the Desktop.
    2 - Open the working Preferences folder, HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences, and move the contents to the Preferences A folder on the Desktop.
    3 - Make a duplicate copy of the Preferences A folder on the Desktop as a precautionary backup.
    4 - With the working Preferences folder empty run the application again and determine if the problems is fixed.
    5 - If the problem is fixed:
    A - open the working Preferences folder (HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences).
    B - Open the Preferences A folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Preferences folder.
    C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here.
    5 - If the problem is NOT fixed, empty the working Preferencess folder and move the contents of the Preferences folder on the desktop back into it.
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Very bad bug in ViewLinks

    I created a viewlink between 2 view object exposing both accessors.
    I created a form using theese 2 Vo, going from master to deteils.

  • Changes in 2.02 - some good, One very bad BUG = All Music Lost.

    Just what I've noticed so far in addition to those listed in the AppleInsider thread (the new animation from Music list and album view is still my favorite). Some minor, some major - especially losing all your Music by runing "Reset Settings". Some may be with 2.01 and I didn't notice them.
    http://www.appleinsider.com/articles...2update.html
    1) Notes: New animation for minimizing from Notes
    2) Contacts: ".com" popup menu is hidden in the simple period button [.] Hold to see other options.
    3) VPN: Moved in Settings under General > Network.
    4) Slight improvement in dragging Icons between home screens.
    *5) "Reset Settings" should only have cleared settings and not media, but it broke Music. I could tell by the Capacity values that the files were still there, but I had to resync to get access back to the files. Before that Music was totally empty :(*
    6) When I connected to iTunes to resync Music: The option to upload the iPod diagnostics file triggered an automatic backup of my iTouch - presumably due to the contents of the file indicating trouble in the file system?

    No, actually, it doesn't. The Apple Store policies explicitly state one download only. That's why, unless you have turned it off, iTunes will warn you to back up your purchases.

  • Bad Bug in the BC Knowledgebase Search

    There is a serious flaw when searching the BC Knowledgebase because the words "Search across all products" appears prominently in the template of every article written.
    Therefore when you search for the word "Product" as in "Large Product Layout" or "Product Search" for BC help, the Knowledgebase returned pages are all false hits not relevant to the subject because the search is confused by "Search across all products" on every page of every article.
    Try searching for "Product Search" or "Product Name" etc. and you can't find any help like you could on the old BC site.

    We're moving docs to the new platform which will eliminate this issue.
