Resume working on a saved halfway done form in Reader

I have an XFA form designed in Designer 7. I downloaded the Document Server for Reader Extension 6.0 and enabled the form.
After I opened the form in Adobe Reader, typed in something and saved and closed the form. I was not able to work on the form again. When the form is opened in Reader, It shows a warning message says,
"This document contained certain rights to enable special features in Adobe Reader. The document has been changed since it was created and these rights are no longer valid. Please contact the author for the original version of this document."
If this is the default behavior, then it means that user can not save a halfway done form and work on it again.
I don't have Live Cycle Reader Extension 7 yet. does not behave the same way?
Thanks.

Hi SGreen!
I'm not too much of a professional, but I can do both 1) and 2) in my reader extended forms. What I intercept from Dave's message is that you cannot change the template object model, the form model can be changed by the rules of the template model. In real life this means that you can hide/unhide objects (since they are already created in the template) but you cannot a new field which isn't already presented in the model. When it comes to dynamic forms, they are, as the hidden fields, already described in the template and will work in a reader extended form. Every time the method instanceManager.addItem is triggered, it only duplicates a items already described in the template.
What Dave describes, which I haven't found out yet, is that you can edit and save the Data DOM. If you, Dave, can show me how.
I hope I haven't made more confusion out of this.....

  • Saving a PDF-form with nested forms and tables

I created a multiplaged form with a couple JS-functions to add table-instances and complete tables and a few more. I saved the form with additional rights to make sure my users can save the form and its content using Adobe Reader. Now whenever the form is saved, some - but only some - information disappears, respectively isn't saved but replaced through the default content. I created quite some forms before and never ever had this problem. I'm using LiveCycle Designer ES 2 )but experienced the same problem when using ES 3) and Adobe Reader X.
    Filled out form before saving:
Filled out form after saving and re-opening:
    Any ideas?

    Hello
When you work with live cycle designer you create your form and you save it. Then, when you want to send it to people you use the assistant with create 2 other different files :
    1) A publication form that you will send by mail
    2) A blank form that you will fill with information the user sent to you
So, call the assistant create the 2 files but don't send them to people and save them locally. Open the second file and fill it in reader, you will see you will save change.

  • No data saved in Adobe Forms

    Hi experts,
I'm new to Adobe Interactive Forms. I'm trying to get the ISR scenario from the  'ISR cookbook' to work. Untill now that was really easy to do. I definded a scenario, defined my characteristics and developed an Adobe Form. After saving and activating the form I can test the scenario succesfully. But here is the problem:
My characteristics appear in the form, like they should. But after filling the form and saving it, no data has been saved. The form stays empty as well as the created notification. Through function module ISR_PROCESS_EVENT I'm able to check that the notification is empty indeed.
I don't know what can be the problem or what I have to do to make the form save the data to the R/3 system.
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Edwin van der Palen

    Hi Prabhakar,
Thank you for your reply. Like I said, I'm developing the form for the Internet Service Request (ISR). With transaction QISRSCENARIO I generated a form and during the generation of the form the interface and the values in de data view are created automatically. After that, I did the binding of the 'data view values' to the fields in the form. This way, I don't have to use Web Dynpro.
It seems like I did al the steps right. Even though, when I test the form no data will be saved to the form. The created notification is also empty.
Any more hints on this issue?
    Thanks,
    Edwin

  • Saving PDF with Form

I've got a PDF with several form fields, if I fill them out and save the PDF, all of the fields go blank again. I have access to Acrobat Pro on another computer so I can tell that this PDF has no protections enabled, what's wrong?

Adobe Reader does not allow saving filled-in forms, either with Save, or Print to PDF. Some forms don't fill properly with Preview (at least they didn't in Tiger), and Preview doesn't have many features (such as field descriptors), so Adobe Reader is sometimes the only option. The virtual printer lets you save filled-in form with Adobe Reader. If the form works with Preview, then the built-in Print to PDF can be used.

I upgraded for Firefox 4 and now my HP SimplePass Identity Protection (biometric scanner) on my laptop will not work. WHY? It still works with IE but I don't use IE. It worked with the previous Firefox version but now when I use the internet, it doesn't even acknowledge I have the scanner. When I run my finger over it, it opens the settings panel but does not allow use of the already saved information or allow new information to be entered. I need this corrected. Any suggestions?

I asked this same question, and just received a response:

  • Saving a PDF form

How do I save a PDF form that I've filled out online, with the information in the form fields?  I have Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Standard and recently updated to Adobe Reader 9.  With the previous version of Adobe Reader that I had, I could save the completed online forms to my computer.  Just last week, this proved to be very helpful as I was able to bring up completed forms from 2007 to prove that they had been filed, when the website in question corrupted the forms it had archived.
But with the new version of Reader, I'm not able to save the completed form.  I can save a blank version of the form but not the completed form as filed.  I tried printing it to a file, and printing it as an image -- neither worked.  When I open the form online, it uses Reader not Acrobat; I'm not sure how to get it to open using Acrobat and I'm not sure if that would allow me to save it either.  I downloaded a previous version of Reader (which had been uninstalled when I upgraded to Reader 9) but it didn't complete the install because it detected the presence of Reader 9.  I did do a "Print Screen" and copied that to a Word document but that's a bit of a pain, and is certainly not as easy to read.
I really need to be able to save the completed form and it seems as if Adobe should realize that I am not just using the free Reader.  Any suggestions?

I think have a similar question as you answered here.  But I want to just make sure I am understanding your response.
I have created a PDF form in LiveCycle and saved it as an Adobe Static PDF form.  When I supply this form to my users.  The only way they can fill it out and save it is they must have Adode ACROBAT.   The free Adobe Reader will not allow a user to fill out the form and then save it electronically.    They can only fill out the form in Reader and then print it out. Is this correct?
So any one I want to fill out the form and save it electronically will need to have Adobe Acrobat and at least the Standard addition...which costs money.

  • Intermittent problem saving a pdf form

I have created a 17 page PDF form in LiveCycle Es with many dynamic features, such as adding or subtracting more lines to a table.  The whole document is about 700KB ( 800 after being partially filled in) in size.  I put fillable password protection on it and ran it thru Adobe Extension, checking Basic Fill-in and Final.
Most users are happy with it except two people are having problems saving it to their computer.  Both downloaded it from Firefox to their computers, then opened it and began typing.  Sometimes they are able to save their work and other times not.  One was able to do a Save As and rename it, but that didn't even work for the other.  One was getting an error message saying to the effect that the volume for the file was externally altered and cannot be saved.
They are both using Reader 8 or 9 and one has Vista while the other has XP.  I have downloaded the form at work and at home and cannot duplicate their problem so I suspect the problem is at their end.
Any ideas of what could be causing this?

  • Saving a reader extended PDF form as read-only

Before posting this, I've searched for hours in the forums and the internet on how to accomplish this but I just can't find the solution.
I've created a simple form in Acrobat and saved it with reader extended attributes so it can be saved by my colleagues in Adobe Reader once filled in. The problem now is they need to send these out to customers but in an unfillable state. I'm not sure if this is possible but I'm hoping for a simple solution if anyone could help me out, thanks.

Create a button somewhere on the form and add the following to the Mouse Up event:
// Set these fields to read-only
    getField("Text1").readonly = true;
    getField("Text2").readonly = true;
    getField("Check Box1").readonly = true;
// continue for any other fields
    // Hide this button
    event.target.display = display.hidden;
Only use the actual field names that you're using in your form. The users should be sure to save to a new file, and I would suggest that they set the blank form to read-only via the file system so they don't accidentally overwrite it.

  • Saving a filled-in secure form in Reader?

Apologies if this has been covered somewhere in the forums. I've just not been able to find anything that answers this...
I've created a form for a client in Acrobat 9 Pro. Security is set to allow printing and "Filling in form fields and signing existing signature fields." My problems begin when opening the form in Reader X.
The instructions in Reader says "Click 'Sign' to fill out and sign this form. When you are done, you can save a copy by clicking 'Done Signing'"
I click "Sign" and fill-in the form fields. However, "Done Signing" never turns live in the sidebar. It remains grayed-out. The only option available is to "Send Signed Document" using Adobe's EchoSign system. However, doing so simply sends a blank form, with none of the fields filled-in.
Save As... doesn't appear to be an option either, as it will only save a blank copy of the form.
How does a user fill-in and save a secured form in Reader X? Will I have to remove all security from the form altogether? Or is a user doomed to have to use EchoSign...which apparently only saves a blank version?
Side observation: That sidebar is very confusing to the user. What's "Add Text" for? It could easily be assumed that the user needs to click that in order to fill-in the fields. And, there's no need for anyone to sign or "Place Signature" in this form. How can a user avoid this altogether?

If it needs to be saved with Reader, the document has to be Reader-enabled. To do this with Acrobat 10, select: File > Save As > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Additional Features
The EchoSign related stuff in Reader should be ignored for a form like this.
Note that Reader 11, which will be released shortly, is able to save a non-enabled form, but not if the form uses digital signatures. If it does, it will need to be Reader-enabled.

  • PDF forms in Reader: completing, saving, open, amend, save again

I have the following situation. I generated forms using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro, checked the option "Choose Advanced >  Extend Features In Adobe Reader" to make forms fillable and  savable for Acrobat Reader users.
So far everything worked fine. User could open with Acrobat Reader, complete forms and save. However, when these files were re-opened to amend something or sent to others for amendment, the can not be saved again in altered form.
Anybody has a suggestions how to overcome? User are not all part of the same network and spread out all over the world.
    Thanks for your ideas,
    Al

  • Suspend / Resume works only once

I have suspend / resume working flawlessly on a Dell Inspiron 8500, but it will only work one time. The 2nd time I try the laptop will suspend, but I am presented with a black screen on the resume. I can toggle Caps Lock, but cannot force an X restart or toggle to console. I have discovered that if I restart X after the first resume there is no problem. I need a little help working out how I can solve this. I am not really sure what I need to do. I have only ever had this working on a couple of distro's and lately I have been sticking more and more on Arch.
    So questions:
What steps can I take to troubleshoot this problem?
    What can I try ?
It seems like something is corrupted after the first resume and causes a problem on the second. What is likely to be the cause of this?
As I have poor support for LCD and DPMS using the open nv driver, I am running nvidia.
    thanks for any input.

    Hi,
Thanks for your replies. I am actually using pm-utils for suspend, but installed hibernate-script and tried running hibernate with SwitchToTextMode Yes and got the same problem.
As soon as the machine powerbutton is pressed to resume the laptop is unresponsive with a black screen. The only solution is to power off. I also tried the sysrq magic, but that would not work.
With both hibernate or pm-utils the first suspend / resume cycle works without a problem.
I tried pm-suspend with some of the vbe options, but none were able to resolve the issue.
I have checked X logs and hibernate / pm logs and all are clean. I don't believe that the resume part is logged. If there is a way of troubleshooting the resume it maybe of help.
    thanks

  • IPod stops synchronizing when its halfway done :(

I connect my iPod to the PC and it starts syncing with iTunes. But when the synchronization is halfway done, it stops working. Instead of showing the "synchronizing" icon, it shows the "connected" icon. If I unplug it that way, all the data goes corrupted. I formatted it several times, restored it, tried the Disk Mode, tried different computer but nothings helping. I use the very latest edition of iTunes. What should I do now? Please help.

I noticed the same problem. To tell you the truth, I am not very happy about it.
I used a 3rd Gen iPod for a few years and podcasting was working great. I was driving and it would continue between podcasts.
On my new 5th Gen iPod anything not being a playlist (podcast, videos, etc.) just takes you back to the main menu after it finishes. Not fun or safe when you are driving on a curved road and have to look and control your iPod just to look for the next podcast. It even kicks you back all the way to the main menu which is frustrating when you know another car is too close to you.
Sincerely, I thought this was just a bug and it would get fixed on the first firmware upgrade. Well... apparently not!
Anyway, I preferred the old way for obvious reasons.
The Playlist is the fix for now... but after managing my podcasts... having to take more steps for creating the playlists, etc.. is a REAL pain. Podcasts lists change almost daily in my case and having to re-create playlists all the time is no fun. What is so good about having the iPod sync my podcats and subscriptions if I have to manually manage playlists for them?

As I said, I don't use Time Machine, so it'd be best to wait for an "expert" answer, but, with my very limited knowledge, I'd say: probably not - so, for now, I'd suggest you read up on Time Machine:
