Retake quiz - only failed questions?

Hi,
I have Captivate 4, and was wondering if you can set the quiz to retake only the failed questions.
I have a 40 random question quiz, with a pool of around 60 questions, and want the learner to retake the questions they answered wrong only, not have to sit through all 40 questions again. Is this possible?
If not, will it be possible in the new Captivate 5?
Thanks for your help.

Still been searching, no luck so far. I take it since people have been looking and no replies that it probably can't be done. Hopefully someone out there knows a work around or something for this.

  • Quiz Retake Button - Only Show Question Slides

I currently have courses with quiz question slides at different places throughout.
    Example:
    Slide 1
    Slide 2
    Quiz Question 1
    Slide 4
    Slide 5
    Slide 6
    Slide 7
    Quiz Question 2
    Slide 8
    Slide 9
    Quiz Question 3
    etc...
I have the Retake Quiz button on the results slide if a user fails the quiz. Is there any way to have the Retake Quiz button show ONLY the Quiz Questions slides, not the content slides in between? Currently, when the user clicks the Retake Quiz button, it directs them to the first quiz slide (Quiz Question 1), but after answering, the course continues to the content slides (Slide 4, Slide 5, etc...) before it reaches the next quiz question. Since the quiz slides are not directly consecutive, can the Review Quiz button be programmed to only show quiz question slides?

    Hi there,
You can do this using advanced actions and user variables.
you can create your own variable and apply a default value of 0.
On exiting the normal slide assign that variable with the value of 1 or if you have a button on that slide then you can apply action on that button.
and on enter of the slide you can apply a conditional action.
to check the value of that variable if it is equal to 1 then go to next slide, else continue.

  • Retake Quiz button not resetting questions

    Hi all
I have a quiz with 7 questions, all single-answer questions.
When the quiz results are displayed, the Retake Quiz button is displayed if they have failed the quiz.
Upon clicking Retake Quiz, it takes me back to the start of the quiz, however, the previous answers given have not been reset and the question is greyed out.
I've been reading various posts on here, indicating that similar things are happening, however I couldn't find the reason with the quiz settings that I have:
Quiz is set to Answer All.
Quiz is set to Allow Backward Movement.
Quiz is set to allow 100 attempts on the quiz.
Quiz is set to display Retake Button.
Each quiz question is set to allow 1 attempt.
I thought that by increasing the number of attempts allowed on each question that this would solve it, but this just allows me to keep trying on each question until I hit the right answer, and does not seem to solve the problem.
I'm really not sure as to why, when using the Retake Quiz button, it is not resetting the quiz.
    Any help greatly appreciated!
    regards
    Loraine

    Hi again
I have now changed the settings in the quiz as per Lilybiri's suggestion. I now have the following quiz settings in place:
Quiz is set to Required - the user must take the quiz to continue.
Quiz is set to Allow Backward Movement.
Quiz is set to allow 100 attempts on the quiz.
Quiz is set to display Retake Button.
Each quiz question is set to allow 1 attempt.
    Captivate 4  - AS 2.
After answering all the quiz questions, and failing, and clicking Retake Quiz button, some of the answers remain greyed out. It will not let you click Reset and will then automatically move on to the next question slide.
There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it... sometimes the correct answer remains greyed out, and sometimes an incorrect answer remains greyed out. Sometimes when I click Retake Quiz none of the answers are greyed out, but then if i keep failing the quiz, the answers begin to appear greyed out. I have double-checked that i've set the number of attempts on the quiz to 100.
I have also tried using the Back navigation button within a quiz, to go back and change my answer, but the answers remain greyed out, and pressing Reset makes no difference.
It seems the only way I've managed to get a 'clean' retake at the quiz, is to exit from the e-learning, then go back in to it. But this is not going to be an acceptable method, when my company want to give learners the option to retake the quiz only if they fail, and not redo the whole package to get to the quiz at the end.

  • Can Retake Quiz button take me to 3rd question slide of the project?

    Hi,
I am happy to join this forum. I hope anyone of you answer my question.
I am using captivate 4. I am not storing score onto any LMS.
I am developing an e-learning course of 30 slides. First 20 slides are content slides. I have 2 question slides as 14th and 15th slides. I don't want these 2 questions be part of my main Quiz which starts from 21st onwards which has 10 question slides. The quiz result page has "Retake Quiz Button" which is taking to the 14th slide which I dont want. Actually Retake Quiz button should take me to 21st slide only.(..and all the question slides in my course showing "Question x of 12". But I want this to show "Question x of 10" only). Because I have used 2 question slides (14th and 15th) to check the user for better understanding.
    Can anyone help me out.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards,
    Manoharan.A

    Welcome to the forum,
Each Captivate file, if you enable scoring will report a total score, in your case the score of the 'pre' questions and of the 'real' questions. Same with the progress (which you can disable).
Since your pretest only has 2 slides, to achieve your goal without having to create multiple files (pretest or final test separated from the main course), I would propose not to use the default Question slides for the pre-test, but to create them using standard objects, variables and advanced actions. This is perfectly possible for the most Question types, so which type did you use for the pre-test: true/false, multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank...? Instead of reporting the score the usual way (they get stored in the system variable cpQuizInfoPointsScored), I would store the results of the pre-test in a variable.
Both your issues will be solved: when retaking the Quiz, since only regular Question slides are considered as a Quiz, you will be taken to the first Question slide and the progress will be as you want it to be.
If you want to go this way, and need more help, please post your questions. I did publish some articles on use of variables and advanced actions but examples were made with CP5 (principles are the same). Captiv8r (moderator of this forum) has a gooberguide about Advanced actions (for CP4) that could be of great help:

  • How can we make the Retake Quiz button only appear when user reenters the course?

In a Captivate 8 Quiz, we need to force the user to close the course (so attempts are captured by the LMS) from the Quiz Results page. The Retake Quiz button cannot show at this time. However, when the learner reenters the course from the LMS, the bookmarking brings the user to the Results page again. We need a Retake Quiz button to only show when the user reenters the course, not on Quiz completion. Disabling the bookmarking disables the reporting of attempts. Does anyone know a way to make that happen or a workaround?

  • Captivate 8 Retake Quiz button - back to the wrong question slide

    Hi
I still haven't fixed my retake quiz button problem. I have a project with several non-graded practice questions (hot spot, drag n drop, 2 multiple choice/multiple answer) followed by 9 "real" test questions. I want the students to go back to the "real" test questions when they click the retake quiz button. Now, the retake quiz button takes me back to the first multiple choice question in the practice section - not the first "real" test question.
In Advanced Interactions for the first multiple choice question (and the 2nd as well), I see that nothing is listed in Include in Quiz col and Report Answers = NO. But an entry appears in Objective ID and Interaction ID. I can't see this ID information anywhere in the QUIZ tab - I'm wondering if this is what's driving the retake quiz button to this slide.
    Attempted Fix:
I saw Lilybiri's answer to "Captivate 8 Retake Quiz" entry. This sounded like the perfect solution to my problem. So I created a conditional Advanced Action:
If cpQuizInfoAttempts is greater than 1    Jump to (1st "real" test slide #)    Else Continue
On the 1st "real" test slide I put this conditional action On Enter.
It didn't work. Please help me determine what I'm doing wrong and how to fix this retake quiz problem. MANY MANY THANKS!!! I'm getting desperate!
    Smiles
    Susann

You must have read my answer wrongly. Condition is OK, but you have to trigger it On Enter for the first practice question, not on the first real question slide. Since the Retake button will take the user to that first practice question slide, that action will be evaluated and the jump to the first real question slide will occur. Supposed is here that all practice slides are before all question slides.

  • Retake Quiz Issue

Hi there, I would like to have a Retake Quiz button at the end of a quiz.
    This is what is happening:
1 - The user answers all the questions with 100% success. The score is recorded. I record with an Internal Server - all is good, results are sent.
2 - The user does not answer with 100% success - in other words - fails to get the mark. In this case, I can see only the Continue button and the Quiz Results are NOT sent to the server.
I would like that the user is able to choose always from two buttons. One - to Retake the quiz, the other - to continue with the failed result.
What am I not doing properly? I am with Cp7. Here are some shots of the Quiz Preferences.
    Thank you in advance.
    Bobby

    Hello,
Waht are your Quiz settings, such as Action on Failing Grade?  But I'm not suer at all that you can jump to another slide than the first Question slide.
Captivate always considers all quesitons in a file as one Quiz. You really do have two quizzes. One way to avoid this is splitting in two files, each one hveing a quiz and chaining them together. Or create the non-scored quiz slides yourself with standard objects, and be sure not to attach any score to interactive objects like click boses, buttons, text Entry Boses.

  • Inconsistent Continue button function when Retake Quiz button is present

Hi, I am using Captivate 4 on a Win7 computer.  My problem is this.  I have setup a 10 question quiz at the end of my module.  On the results page (slide 37), I have a Review Quiz button, a Retake Quiz button, and a Continue button.  The user can retake the quiz if she/he likes, but, regardless of whether the user passes or fails the quiz, they are to hit the "Continue" button which should jump to one of two slides (slide 38 for "Congratulations" or slide 39 for "Sorry, you did not pass") and then it is to automatically continue to the next slide that says "Thank you" (slide 40) and then the Captivate module is to close automatically.  That's what is supposed to happen, and some of it does.  However, here's what does happen.  If the user passes the quiz and clicks the "Continue" button, everything works perfectly.  But, if the user fails the quiz and clicks the "Continue" button - nothing happens. The "Continue" button fails to work.  You click on "Continue" and nothing happens.  It just stays on the results page.  The slider does not advance either.  However, if I delete the "Retake Quiz" button, then the "Continue" button works perfectly whether the user passes or fails.  What is the fix here?  I'm guessing you might need more information.  I'l supply what I think might be relevant, below.
    The progression:
Slides 27 - 36 : 10 slides of quiz question (one question per slide)
    Slide 37 :  Results page
Slide 38 :  "Congratulations" slide for passing
Slide 39 :  "Sorry, you did not complete this course..." slide for failing
    Slide 40 :  "Thank you."
    Preferences/Quiz/Pass or Fail :
If passing grade: Action: Jump to slide 38
If failing grade: Allow user: 2 attempts
    Show Retake Button is checked
    Action: Jump to slide 39
    Preferences/Quiz/Settings :
Pass Required - the user maust pass this quiz to continue
Thank you.  Please let me know if you need any more information.
    Jorge Gonzalez

    D. Sharma,
Hi, sorry, all this time when you were saying "it" I thought you were referring to the Captivate module that includes the quiz.  I didn't realize you were referring to the quiz alone.
Here's what I have: the module contains the quiz in it.  In other words, the quiz was created in Captivate and is part of the module.  The problem I described happens whether the module (with the quiz in it) is published locally or on the LMS.  It makes no difference.  The problem persists.
    Sorry for the misunderstanding,
    Jorge G.

  • Remediation with retake quiz glitch

I've run across a glitch when using remediation in a few quiz slides when also using the option to retake a quiz.
If you have a file with questions that use remediation and the user gets a failing grade, once they click the restart quiz button and answer a question with remediation incorrectly, the Return to Quiz button on the remedation content slide doesn't send the user back to the quiz. Instead the Return to Quiz button just sends the user to the following slide. The remediation works correctly the first time the user remediates prior to failing the quiz, but the remediation doesn't function properly when they're retrying it.
The link to the file below is to the Captivate 7.01 file
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/23385824/RemediationFailure/RemediationGlitch.cptxhttp ://
If you don't have the recent 7.01 update you can view a published version of the file here, https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/23385824/RemediationFailure/RemediationGlitch.htm
The first time viewing the file answer the first question incorrectly so you can see that the remediation is functioning. Since Captivate's remediation doesn't allow you to fail a question using remediation, you'll have to select the correct answer in the first quiz slide in order to get to the next question. If you answer the second quiz slide incorrectly the quiz will fail and show the Retry Quiz button. After clicking the Retry Quiz button answer the first question incorrectly to be sent to the first slide for remediation so you can see that clicking on the Next > button will send you to the next slide instead of back to the quiz.
I've tested this out in Captivate 7 and 6 and the glitch exists in both versions.

  • Continue / Retake Quiz buttons act differently when Publishing in SWF vs SWF/HTML5

Hi, I use Captivate 7 and when I compare what I publish as SWF/HTML5 with SWF only it seems that there are 2 issues with the SWF/HTML5  site on Chrome (also on Safari)
    Issue 1
I have 1 quiz on a course and I have set the Quiz setting to require a Pass to continue. I put the "Retake" Quiz button over the "Continue" button so it covers the continue if the person fails and will show the continue button only if the person passes. (I had also changed the Caption on the Continue button to say Print Certificate)
This works when I publish the course as SWF only. When I publish as SWF/HTML5 and view on Chrome/Safari then when the person fail it seems that the "continue" button still shows and makes the "retake quiz button" transparent or behind the continue button. If the person passes then it works fine.
    Issue 2
In the same example if click the "continue" button several time it the website continues even though the person had failed
Not sure if anyone has found this an issue or has a better way for not making the Continue button to appear if the person has failed.
My objective was that there was a Certificate document after the quiz and if the person passes then they can go get the Certificate. If they fail then they cannot go tto the next slide to get the certificate. Maybe there is a better way to do this ?
    thanks
    Hatim

OMG, just checked it out and you are right: the Review button appears always on top of the Retake button. Please, log a bug report, will do as well. This is really very annoying because the terminology can be confusing,
For SWF I found a workaround: change the stacking order in the Results Master slide, send the Review button Back. That seems to work. But for HTML5-output, no way... Review is always on top of Retake. I also played with unchecking, and rechecking but cannot find a solution.

  • Retake Quiz - the feedback I added to be shown after 2 incorrect attempts is showing up front

    Hi again,
I've got another question on the re-take quiz function.
I've set the questions to allow 2 attempts, and if the user get it wrong a third time they get feedback that appears telling them what the correct answer is.
However, when I am going through and then retaking the quiz, that feedback is showing on the question - how can I edit that?
Thank you for any help you can offer
    Sarah

    Hi,
No, it's definitly the retake option.
I have tested again, and it is happening to those that I got incorrect first time round, but not those I got correct.
I set up the quiz properties so that on correct answer of the question, the action is to progress to the next slide.  I set 2 failure levels, and selected on last attempt Show and then added a text box with a message informing the delegate of the correct answer. This then shows on screen for 5 seconds or so and then progresses to the next slide.
I got the first 3 questions incorrect on purpose, and correctly answered the other 9.
When I clcik retake quiz, the first 3 questions that I got incorrect that first time, show that text caption from the start of the slide playing.  The 9 I got correct do not show it.
I then got all the questions correct, and now the results screen shows I got them all correct, had 2 attempts at the quiz, but now I can't work out how to get to my final slide as it doesn't seem to progress automatically.
Thanks very much again for your help.

  • My notebook will not start up----I see only a question mark in a small folder.  What to do?

My notebook will not start up----I see only a question mark in a small folder.  What to do?

Booting From An OS X Installer Disc
    1. Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
      2. Restart the computer.
      3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
      4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple
          logo appears.
      5. Wait for installer to finish loading.
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • Retake Quiz with random pooling continued

If I have my project pulling random questions for the quiz, when I use the option to retake the exam, does the quiz pull random questions again or is it the same exact test questions recently taken?

Retake Quiz will show the same questions that the learner got on the first try.  To get another randomisation from the pool you need to relaunch the same lesson.

  • Quiz, Retake quiz,

    Hi all!
My course has several practice ungraded questions, a real test (9 graded questions), and an "after course" reportable survey (8 questions). I want students to be able to retake the quiz once.  The Quiz Results slide now automatically appears after the survey. I want to show quiz results and put the retake quiz button on a custom quiz results slide after the test but before the survey so students don't go thru the survey before they see how they did.  I want students to get the opportunity to retake the quiz just after having taken it - and not after having taken the survey. And I don't want survey question info to show up on the "real" quiz results slide - makes no sense to the students.  I also want to report student success in terms of percentage completed on the test - not just in points scored.
Please help. How do I do this? I'm in Captivate 8.

Survey questions normally will not show up in the score result, since there is no score. However some quizzing system variables do take into account all scored objects (number of questions is one example) which is annoying.
You can create a custom score slide. Have a look at: Intermediate Score Slides - Captivate blog
That post has a different goal, but you'll see several custom score slides.
I don't know which version you are using? The Quizzing system variables are described in these posts:
    http://blog.lilybiri.com/system-variables-in-captivate-6
New features in Captivate 7.01 - Captivate blog
The last one has some details on new variables in 7.0.1. I didn't post the updated list for 8 yet... maybe after Adobe Learning Summit.

  • Re-do a failed question but still record each attempt

    Background to brief
We are creating a dynamic online quiz with multiple branching scenarios. One of the requirements of the quiz is that a user MUST answer the question correctly before procedding BUT we also need to record each failed attempt. If the user answers the question wrong 3 times then we need the ability to record this result.
I have disabled the correct / incorrect captions in favour of immediate branching to either the next slide upon success or a 'Sorry you answered that question' wrong slide that then jumps to repeats the same question.
SO -  Failed attempt - takes the user to a failed question slide - slide then takes the user back to the same question to re-answer. The problem is that if you set the attempts to 'infinite' it does not record a failed result on each attempt and if you set the question to 1 attempt it does not allow you to answer the same question again when returning back to the question.
Is what we're trying to achieve possible with Captiviate 5.5? PLEASE HELP!
