Quiz Retake Button - Only Show Question Slides

I currently have courses with quiz question slides at different places throughout.
Example:
Slide 1
Slide 2
Quiz Question 1
Slide 4
Slide 5
Slide 6
Slide 7
Quiz Question 2
Slide 8
Slide 9
Quiz Question 3
etc...
I have the Retake Quiz button on the results slide if a user fails the quiz. Is there any way to have the Retake Quiz button show ONLY the Quiz Questions slides, not the content slides in between? Currently, when the user clicks the Retake Quiz button, it directs them to the first quiz slide (Quiz Question 1), but after answering, the course continues to the content slides (Slide 4, Slide 5, etc...) before it reaches the next quiz question. Since the quiz slides are not directly consecutive, can the Review Quiz button be programmed to only show quiz question slides?

Hi there,
You can do this using advanced actions and user variables.
you can create your own variable and apply a default value of 0.
On exiting the normal slide assign that variable with the value of 1 or if you have a button on that slide then you can apply action on that button.
and on enter of the slide you can apply a conditional action.
to check the value of that variable if it is equal to 1 then go to next slide, else continue.

Is it possible to make the Quiz Skip button jump to another slide besides the next slide? I'm using Captivate 7.

Branch aware is a totally different thing: it makes the quizzing variables dynamically adapting to the questions that are taken by the trainee.
You are talking about the Skip button, which is puzzling because that button label was changed to Next since version 6. And Branch aware only appeared in 6. Which version are you using? You are talking about shapes so it must be 6 or later.

You are talking about a 'custom Skip button'? Can you explain, and also what you mean by the rollover shape? If you have a custom button it should be visible on the timeline of the slide, contrary to the default objects on question slides that are embedded and have no separate timeline. Or was the question master slide edited to add a rollover shape to the default Next button?

I'd try Dropbox (http://www.dropbox.com/), which you and your recipient both have to have. It's easy, and the free version would probably be enough. There are any number of other services available for emailing large files (google that). Of course, your recipient must have KN installed to be able to view it correctly, or can view it in PP, but with some loss, primarily transitions/animations.

Review mode: how to show only the question slides again

Quiz Results screen
At the Quiz Results screen, if the learner wants to review the lesson, s/he is forced to go through most of the content screens.
Is there any way to make it so that the learner only reviews the actual multiple choice screens? It sure would be handy to have a 'Hide non-assessment slides during Review' option.

A 'quick and dirty' solution if you are on 7.0.1. There are more elegant ways but it will work.
Create a shared action that has to be triggered on each slide by the On Enter event, starting with the first question slide. It has to be a conditional action, with two condtions that have both to result in true, so they are combined with AND.
IF cpInReviewMode is equal to 1 AND
        cpInfoCurrentSlideType is equal to "Normal slide"
       Go to Next Slide
ELSE
        Continue

Button issues on Question slide

Hi there
I have a simple quiz in my project which the users can skip
if they want to. I want the users can go Back from the question
slide. The back button works for the first time taking to the
previous slide(not a question slide). But when i again want to come
from the slide to question slide the Next button which i have added
stops working. Strangely if i dont have a question slide the Next
button works fine for simple slides.

project for which i have inserted 2 question slides. Just want
users to try if they want to and if they press the correct option
they move on and even incorrect they move on...nothing to do with
scoring or reporting.

Captivate 8: How to add a button onto a question slide to invoke some java script?

I have some question slides where the user has to guess an item on a picture. Because the picture is very small, I want to add a zoom button which calls a function in my LMS to popup the picture in a bigger window. I could not find a way to add a button where I can call java script, so I tried to solve this by using a smart shape with option "use as button" set and adding the java script action. This works fine for the popup but now the submit button on the slide no longer works. Clicking the submit button just disables the answers and stays on the current slide even if I did not click onto the shape button previously. How can I achieve my goal to display a bigger picture of an image on my slide on the users request?
I also tried the "ImageView" widget, but this is not a practicable solution.

I think I found the solution: In the "Timing" tab for the shape there is an option "Pause After" which was set to 1,5 seconds. I cleared this options and now the submit button is working again.

The forward and back buttons in firefox 4 beta 7 dont work after trying to customize and the bookmarks button only shows when customizing

after installing firefox 4 beta 7 any customization of navigation bar breaks the forward and back a page buttons they stop working and and restoring the default buttons option it still doesn't work even in the safe mode and the text in menu buttons looks glassy

What I found was that anytime I installed one of the beta's, as soon as I tried to customize the bars and hit the "small icons" checkbox from customize that I would no longer be able to have the round shaped foward back buttons but only square (rectangle) small buttons.
To get those round ones back, but never again to the right of the "File - Edit - etc" bar, all I did was move all the buttons down to the navigation or another bar below as I have the space.
The problem still occurs that anytime I attempt to put them back up top beside the file etc options they go back to those small rectangle buttons :(

Retake Button Navigation

Hello,
1) is there a way, that Retake Button only shows wrong answered questions again for retaking?
2) I have a couple of questions after different chapters, like "Content" -> "Questions" -> "Content" -> "Questions" .... when I hit the Retake Button it starts from first question slide and shows also my content slides again. Is there a way to show only the question slides again for retaking? (like quiz review button).

Retake is the only way to have all questions cleared, and no way to have only incorrect answers cleared. You should log a feature request.
As for your second question, that could be done with advanced actions. You'll have to build a conditional action to execute On Enter for each content slide. You'd have to check the system variable cpQuizInfoAttempts. That variable is incremented whenever a new attempt on Quiz level is started. If that variable is greater than 1, that means that you are in the second of later attempt, and then you'll want to skip the content slide. If not, it is the first attempt and you want the user to see the content slide. Hope this makes sense, because I don't know if you already used advanced actions?
The action will be the same for all content slides, which makes it easy. You could also have a jump to the next bunch of question slides on the first content slide, but that means that you'll need a conditional action that will be different for each first content slide. It is up to you.

Can Retake Quiz button take me to 3rd question slide of the project?

I am using captivate 4. I am not storing score onto any LMS.
I am developing an e-learning course of 30 slides. First 20 slides are content slides. I have 2 question slides as 14th and 15th slides. I don't want these 2 questions be part of my main Quiz which starts from 21st onwards which has 10 question slides. The quiz result page has "Retake Quiz Button" which is taking to the 14th slide which I dont want. Actually Retake Quiz button should take me to 21st slide only.(..and all the question slides in my course showing "Question x of 12". But I want this to show "Question x of 10" only). Because I have used 2 question slides (14th and 15th) to check the user for better understanding.
Can anyone help me out.

Welcome to the forum,
Each Captivate file, if you enable scoring will report a total score, in your case the score of the 'pre' questions and of the 'real' questions. Same with the progress (which you can disable).
Since your pretest only has 2 slides, to achieve your goal without having to create multiple files (pretest or final test separated from the main course), I would propose not to use the default Question slides for the pre-test, but to create them using standard objects, variables and advanced actions. This is perfectly possible for the most Question types, so which type did you use for the pre-test: true/false, multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank...? Instead of reporting the score the usual way (they get stored in the system variable cpQuizInfoPointsScored), I would store the results of the pre-test in a variable.
Both your issues will be solved: when retaking the Quiz, since only regular Question slides are considered as a Quiz, you will be taken to the first Question slide and the progress will be as you want it to be.
If you want to go this way, and need more help, please post your questions. I did publish some articles on use of variables and advanced actions but examples were made with CP5 (principles are the same). Captiv8r (moderator of this forum) has a gooberguide about Advanced actions (for CP4) that could be of great help:

How do i prevent a slide that is after the quiz results page from showing?

HI guys, I am trying to achieve the following in Captivate 6:
1) Users answer questions. They have 2 attempts to pass with 70% or above.
2) At the quiz results page, if the score is less than 70%, users get a button to retake the quiz. After the second attempt, If the percent is 70% or above, they can click a button to view a certificate or click a button to see a transcript. If the percent is less than 70%, they click a button to get a transcript but NOT a certificate.
How can i accomplish this since i cannot add buttons to the quiz results page.

I am trying to implement a simple hide/show routine and it does not work. This is what I want.
I have two buttons (one to save a certifcate and one to save a course transcript). I want to display those on the quiz results screen. The user has two chances to make a 70% or more on the quiz.
If the user obtains less than 70% score on the first try, on the quiz results slide I want to hide the button to save the certificate but keep the one for the transcript. If the user passes with 70 or more, then both icons remain on screen.
IF the user obtains less than 70% after the second try, the quiz results should only show the transcript button. If they pass with 70% or more, then both icons remain on screen.
I tried advance interactions to hide or show the icons in the "on slide enter" on the quiz results screen but that did not work.
This is an example of what i tried. if cpQuizInfoQuizPassPercent is less than 70% hide btncert. I also tried hiding the button and then assigning actions to show the button on passing the 70% but that did not work either.
Suggestions?

Adobe Captivate 5 - Quiz stopping after leaving question slide to go backwards

I'm trying to force Captivate to do something I think it wasn't designed to do - Force the user to get 100% on a quiz. I've set the attempts to 'infinite' and customized the retry messages with little bits of information for the user. Currently, they can try the question as many times as they want until they get it correct but they cannot leave the slide even though there is a 'back' button available! I need them to be able to leave the question slide after attempting to answer the question, sort back through the information slides to learn the information, and return to the question slide to answer it correctly. The quiz stops entirely if you go backwards, then attempt to get back to the question slides.
Forcing them to retake the entire quiz is not an option as this will likely frustrate the user, especially as one of our presentations includes 100 questions. Even setting the failure levels to 3 is not good because eventually, someone will miss the question entirely and have to retake the quiz.
Any suggestions? Can this be done?
I have a short demo with all my settings if anyone wants to see it.

Yep, you are bumping onto the limitations of the current default Quizzes. If you allow multiple attempts on Question level, the user will not be able to leave the slide without exhausting those attemps or having a correct answer. If you allow multiple attempts on Quiz level, the Retake button will delete all answers and the user has to redo the whole quiz.
The only way I found was by creating my own question slides. I even succeeded in making Quiz Retake function only for incorrect answers. This is however a lot of work and when I read the amount of questions you are providing...

Need forward button to only appear after slide is viewed

For Education purposes I dont want my students to be able to forward through the course without viewing all of the information. So I remove the forward button on the skin editor. This creates a problem if the student clicks return on accident or only wants to hear the beginning of the previous slide. They now have to watch the entire course or page again. i have tried to create an Advanced action on enter to show a hidden button if the slide was last viewed or else hide but this does not work bc if they go back multiple slides the button only shows on the slide they go back to.
I can achive this by creating a variable and advanced action per slide but this will require me to make one variable and action for each page.
So what I need is one button (goes to next slide when clicked) that is on every page (entire program) but only shows if the user goes back to that page (its been previouly viewed). There has to be a one button one action to achive this.... But its beyond me... is it beyond you too????
