Retreiving value of paramter passed

Hi,
We have a scenario where by using java SDK we are scheduling a crystal report. On successful completion of the report we want to notify the java code that the report is been run successfully - this is to be done by passing the parameter value back to the java code.
java passes a value to a parameter in CR - runid
on completion we want to pass back this runid to a web service call.
Question:
how do we extract what parameter value was passed to the report.

What value should be passed to the ColumnSize parameter for SQLBindParameter() for a nvarchar(n) column?

I have a table with a field "f1" which type is nvarchar(1000). Now I want to update a record through binding variable method. Before I bind the parameter, I call SQLDescribeCol to get the length of f1 - 1000.
The data for updating f1 is prepared and is coverted to UTF16, so the buffer length is 2*(character length). When I call SQLBindParameter() to bind the variable for f1, what length value should be passed to ColumnSize parameter? Some said the Columnsize
should be in byte. In MSDN, I can't find any posts or examples for my cases. MSDN also mentioned that the limit for this argument is 4000.
I try 1000 and 2000, both works. Which one is the exactly correct one? I use SQL Server 2008 and native client 10.0.

In Oracle 10g, what is the max number of values we can pass to 'IN' Clause

In my SQL query i have a scenario like, i have to pass the values to 'IN' Clause dynamically from other application. I want to know what is the the max number of values i can pass to 'IN' Clause.
i have searched in many pages i seeing answers like 'may be 1000' , 'not sure'....
Could any one tell me the exact limit of IN Clause in 10g.

The limit of 1000 applies to sets of single items: (x) IN ((1), (2), (3), ...)
There is no limit if the sets contain two or more items: (x, 0) IN ((1,0), (2,0), (3,0), ...)

Purchase price inclusive of ED Value how to pass entries without splitting

Hi
My client is a Trader and there are some purchases where the Excise Duty is inclusive in the purchase price.
Example
Assessable value :                                  Rs.100.00
ED 16%                                                 Rs   16.00
Ecess 2% On ED value                           Rs.    0.32
HEcess                                                  Rs.   0.16
     Total Tax                                   Rs. 16.48
     Total                                         Rs.116.48
The purchase price for example is Rs.120 (which includes ED Value of 16.48%) + CST 3%.
Our client does not want to split the ED value and then pass entries as it would result in a lot of manual work. Is there any other way to solve this problem.

Is it an excisable item, if it is so r u using the excisable in the sales transaction?
Any how u can make use of the formatted searches, to avoid the manual work for updating the price including the ED etc automtically.
Something like
Select ($[inv1.U_price].16.02)
and make as a formatted search in the price field.
above is not the exact, try something like this.

table structure :
Project Name | officers 1 | officers 2
here, officers 1 or officers 2 may contain names of multiple people.
expected OUTPUT : distinct list(rows) of projects where person 1 or person 2 or person 3 is either officer1 or officer 2.

And its not working in case of :

Keep in mind that what you've done is a wrong design approach
You should not be storing multiples values like this as comma separated list in a single column. Learn about normalization . This is in violation of 1st Normal Form

Selecting an lov parameter value sometimes not passed correctly

When selecting a value from an LOV parameter, sometimes the parameter value doesn't seem to get passed correctly to the data template query.
For example, let's say I have the following LOV parameter called "risk":
Some Risk
New Risk
Other Risk
Last Risk
When I select "Some Risk", I would get correct results and when viewing the "Data" xml, I can see the parameter with the right value:
<RISK>Some Risk</RISK>
But when I select "New Risk" the results are incorrect and the xml shows:
<RISK />
as if the value was not passed as the bind parameter value for the dataset query.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Is this a BIP bug or is there a workaround?

The LOV is of "SQL Query" type (not fixed data) and the values were retrieved from the database.
Supposing this was the sql query for my "risk" parameter LOV:
select dimvaltl.GENERIC_VAL_NAME
from GENERIC_VAL_TL dimvaltl,
GENERIC_TL dimtl
where dimtl.GENERIC_NAME = 'Risk'
and dimvaltl.GENERIC_ID = dimtl.GENERIC_ID
order by dimvaltl.GENERIC_VAL_NAME
And supposing this was the sql query in the data template dataset:
select pdimv.ID
from GENERIC_V pdimv
where pdimv.NAME = 'Risk'
and pdimv.VALUE in (:risk)))
If risk is empty, obviously the query would not work. I noticed the xml generated sometimes show the selected parameter value and sometimes don't, as if BIP is not passing it to the dataset query as bind parameter value.
Incidentally I have other lov parameters that works fine, the only difference I can think of is that for this LOV query I am doing a join instead of a simple select statement from one table.

Retreiving values for repeated tags

I am a newbie to Oracle XML Data type.
I am currently stuck up in what i beleive should be a simiple problem.
I have an XML stored in the Oracle DB as XML Data type. This XML contains a tag which is repeated 'n' types in the XML. I want to retreive these values as separate elements ....
For example consider the XML

<file>FILE-1</file>
<file>FILE-2</file>
</file>
I want the output of the query as two elements in my result set.
A query like "SELECT f.ICN.extract('/file-list/file/text()').getStringVal() FROM FILE_LIST_TBL f" returns output as "FILE-1FILE-2" I want the output to be as two rows in the result FILE-1 and FILE-2.
The reason i want to have it as two rows is because i would have to a join with another relation table.
I am currently stuck up with this issue; Kindly guide me ....

Be aware that the following are examples, that I fabricated out off my head, without testing them on a database.
So the syntax could be slightly wrong. Keep Marks advice at hart.
So -->TABLE(XMLSequence(extract())) should be applied < 10.2 >= XMLTable, for versions equal or higher than.
Be also aware tha XMLTABLE is much more flexible (and/or its complexity) regarding the syntax used here. See the XMLDB Developers Guides and/or the SQL Reference Guide.

How to check a value for paramter query

I am passing a paramter value from my text box to my sql statement and I would like to check if the value is entered into a text box. If you have any idea please share it with me, i have been struggling with this for many days.Code below is how i try to check if the value is entered but I do not know how to check the value in the :VendorName

I have a search page where customeres can do searching either using a text box or two dropdowns i have on my page. they have the option of doing search either using a text box or dropdowns or both.Everything seems to work fine but if users does not leave the text box blank. but they leave the text box blank and do searching using the two dropdowns then the page comes up empty and i checked my query and i should get a value. How to popluate user defined values in Paramter field of a report using "Report Server Project", BIDS

I am creating report using "Business Intelligence Development Studio", creating "Report Server Project" connected to TFS database.
I have created Variance report and the output of report  as below sample:
Project   Assigned To      Planned Effort        Completed    Remaining Variance
P1            X                        20
10                 5              5
P2            Y                        10
10                 0             0
P3            Z                          5
0                  5              0
By default I made Assigned To as parameter field and its showing data for selection in a drop down box (X, Y and Z) and data also filtered correctly.
Q. how can I fill resource names in a drop down of my own choice (in this scenario, I want to display only X and Y) and display data based on the selected resource? By default parameter displays all the resources which I don't want.
I did the below but could not get correct result:
1. Right Click on "Assigned To" parameter, Clicked on "Available Values" and Selected "Specify values" instead of "Get values from query"
2. Added X as Label and Value as 2 (Employee ID as mentioned in dbPerson table)
Drop down displays X but when I clicked on report, it gives an error...
Appreciate your help on this.

Hi Abdul,
From the document, we know that CONSTRAINED flag is used to reduce the risk of injection attacks via the specified string. If a string is provided that is not directly resolvable to qualified
or unqualified member names, the following error appears: "The restrictions imposed by the CONSTRAINED flag in the STRTOSET function were violated."
So you need to make sure the members are passed properly to the STRTOSET function. For more details, please see the following links:

Dashboard prompt value is not passing into the report

Hi,
I am using OBIEE 10g. The problem is in Oracle BI Answers
I have a prompt and its related report. In the prompt, in one of the column, I am using sql result. The sql query is a co-related sub query where i have used 2 tables. employee_data and employee_region. The reason for using sub-query is that there is no data_center column in the employee_data table. It has the records for all the data_center e.g USA, UK,IND,AUSTRALIA etc So, I used the sub query with condition which will give the result on a particular data center (here it is USA) and this sub query's output is input for the main query. And the prompts works fine and gives correct result
The sql query used for the column in the prompt (in Oracle BI Answers) as
SELECT EMPLOYEE_DATA.ENAME FROM EMPLOYEE WHERE EMPLOYEE_DATA.ENAME IN (SELECT EMPLOYEE_REGION.ENAME FROM EMPLOYEE WHERE EMPLOYEE_REGION.DATA_CENTER = 'USA')Now in the report, there are 2 coulmns. - EMPLOYEE_DATA.ENAME and EMPLOYEE_REGION.DATA_CENTER
I have used the main column EMPLOYEE_DATA.ENAME for filter as 'prompted'.
The problem is the value from the prompt is not passing from the prompt to the report, what I found. Because, instead of showing the result for 'USA' data_center, It also shows other data_center 's (UK,IND,AUSTRALIA) data.
How filter condition I should use for EMPLOYEE_DATA.ENAME column in the report so that the prompt value will pass to the report properly ?

There are 2 ways of doing it.
1. Nice and good: For the section where the report is put have a condition to display only if it returns rows. For details please refer to :

2. The easy way: Add a "No Result" view to your report and add few spaces in the text.

Split PR/PO values to allow pass approval limit, how can we control this?

Is there a way to limit the number of approvals that can be done on PR / PO per hour / day / week (for the same account, position, category, item).
The purpose of this not to enable users to split the PR/PO values in multiple PR/PO to allow approval limit pass, that is, PR = $3000 will not be approved since it is more that the approval limit of finance manager whereas PR 1 = $1000, PR 2 = $ 1000, PR 3 = $ 1000 will pass.
How can we avoid this?

In option 2 does this mean if I am a member of the help desk who has the privilege to edit the user, I will be able to go to users/manage and another users/manage2 for example. In users/manage, I can view all the fields on the user with no edit button. In users/manage2, I can view only the fields I am authorized to edit, and there is an edit button on this page?
I have never done this so I am trying to imagine what the interface would look like and what the data flow would be.
In option 3, I have never thought of this solution. But now I understand that this could be an option.

BEx Variable default value does not pass thru to Webi report

Hi,
It appears that the integration between BEx and BOBJ Webi does not support default values when the webi report is scheduled. This means that if Webi/Infoview is the delivery method, than clients require 2 reports. 1 for adhoc and 1 for scheduling. Is there another way around this so 2 reports are not required? Yes it is not supported. you can achieve by writing customer exit for this.
in istep 2,
check whether the variable value is intial.
if intial
pass default value
if not intial (else)
dont do any change, just pass the user input to restriction.

Screen filed values are not passing to program

Hi Good Evening,
I have appended strcture ZCORP to LFA1. The ZCORP structure having two fields ZGRP_D & ZNAME1. In the screen I have added two screen fields LFA1-ZGRP_D & LFA1-ZNAME1 from data dictionary.
When I enter values to these two fields it's not passing back values back to the program.
The declaration would be like
DATA: LFA1-ZGRP_D LIKE LFA1-ZGRP_D ,
      LFA1-ZGRP_D LIKE LFA1-ZGRP_D .
After pressing save I need to copy these values into below fields.
   zmat_grp = LFA1-ZGRP_D.
zgrp_d   = LFA1-ZNAME1 .
But the values in LFA1-ZGRP_D & LFA1-ZNAME1 showing blank. Please guide me where is going in this case.

You need to pass or assign the values in PAI.
MODULE user_command_9000 INPUT.
MOVE LFA1-ZGRP_D TO zmat_grp.
MOVE LFA1-ZNAME1 TO zgrp_d .

How to retreive value from my table..

I have developed a GUI which consists of table..of three columns and 16 rows..
the table consists of propety and value and operator column..property column when user clicks on that cell it shows a combobox of 16 values like empno and empname and emporg,date etc..if user selects any of these value then in operator column it shows corresponding values ..like if selects empno it shows acombo box of less than,greater than,equals..if selects empname then equal,like ,not like with a combo box for selection..like that there r upto 16 rows//user can select any no of rows..after selection if he clicks on find then the selected values should be submitted to a query and passed to maethod..
my doubt is how to retrieve the values and generate query..bcos iam not sure how many rows he is going to select..and in operator column it is string form and i have convert it to >=,< etc form..and submitt to query..
can any body give me some tips for this with sample code..

Put your logo in a subreport, then you can suppress if no data etc.
CR is a Relational Database reporting tool, it requires the tables to be linked otherwise there are 2 SELECT statements generated and unknown results...
