Including XML files inside another

I was wondering if the following was possible, and if so, how:
If I have 2 files of the same schema, e.g.
FileA.xml
<person>
<name>Greg</name>
</person>
FileB.xml
<person>
<name>Bob</name>
</person>
Is there a standard way from in a file FileC.xml, of another schema, to include this information e.g.
<people>
<person>
<name>Another</name>
</person>
<person ref="FileA.xml"/>
<person ref="FileB.xml"/>
</people>
I have Googled this sort of question but not found any examples, and I think I am getting confused with entity resolving.
Any help much appreciated.

I think xinclude and xpointer are what you're looking for.
xinclude:
http://www.w3.org/TR/xinclude/
xpointer:
http://www.w3.org/TR/WD-xptr
These technologies have been around for quite a while (at least since 2001) and many parsers support these standards out of the box. No need to write your own.

  • Include a JSP inside another JSP

    Hi SDN,
    I am stuck with a problem. There is a JSP file available. In this JSP I have to add some more fields. But when I try to ad new fields I am getting a Portal Runtime Error stating that "Code Too Large". So now I thought of putting the new code in another JSP and include that JSP inside my main JSP. Here I cannot use <@include file="..."> because this finally compiles both the JSPs as one.
    So I tried to use <JSP:include>. Some one please help me with how to include a JSP inside another using <JSP:include>. Here both the JSPs are having HBJ content inside.
    I know that <jsp:include page="relPathOfChild.jsp"/> will include the child.jsp into my main jsp. Problem is both the JSPs are having HBJ content, so If I dont declare <hbj:content> tag inside the child jsp, it is throwing an error. But If I declare a <hbj:content> tag inside my child jsp, only child content is coming and main jsp content is not coming.
    Please help me..
    Regards,
    SrinivaS

    Hi,
    This Problem is solved. Now I am able to include a child JSP inside the parent JSP. But now the problem is,
    This Parent JSP will have 8 tabs. Now my chils JSP should come inside 7th tab.  but it is coming above the parent JSP.
    Below is how I am including my child JSP.
    <% try{ if(isCAR){
         %>
                   <tr>
    <jsp:include page="/pagelet/CAREligibility.txt" />
                   </tr>

  • Validating xml-files inside jar-files  for JWS

    I want to use xml-files inside a jar-file and want to validate them with dtd-files,
    located in the same jar-file. This does work, but only as long as the dtd-file is
    in the same directory as the xml-file.
    For example, I have no problem, with a DOC Type-statement like
    <!DOCTYPE questestinterop SYSTEM "ims_qtiv1p1.dtd" >
    With this statement, however, one needs an approprate dtd in every directory containing an XML-file of that type.
    If however i want to gather the necessary dtd's in a directory one (or more) levels above with a DOCTYPE-statement of the form
    <!DOCTYPE questestinterop SYSTEM "../ims_qtiv1p1.dtd" >
    I get error messages of the form
    java.io.FileNotFoundException: JAR entry Mikro/Marshall/BookQuestions/../ims_qtiv1p1.dtd not found in C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\wreiss\Anwendungsdaten\Sun\Java\Deployment\javaws\cache\http\Dwiwi.upb.de\P80\DM~vwl08\DMOViSS\DMoviss_current\RMMikro.jar

    though the dtd-file is in the parent-directory (inside the jar) and the unpacked xml-file can be successfully validated.
    Why does this happen. How can one use a single dtd for multiple xml-files (of the same type) in different directories?.
    Thanks

    In reply to myself, replacing the HTMLBrowser constructor with this;
    public HTMLBrowser()
                  URL url;
                  try
                       // Construct the URL
                       url= this.getClass().getResource('/'+dir+'/'+startPage);
                       setPage(url);
                  catch (Exception e)
                  System.out.println( "Problem setting help homepage");
                 setEditable(false);
                 addHyperlinkListener(new LinkListener(this));
            }made it work. This is because seemingly you need '/' at the start of the resouce's path and '/' as the separator, regardless of platform.
    I hope this helps someone else.

  • Air 2.6 Include XML file

    Hi guys,
    I successfully created a highscore list for AIR 2.6 using File.applicationStorageDirectory.
    file = File.applicationStorageDirectory.resolvePath("highscore.xml");
    fileStream = new FileStream();
    fileStream.open(file, FileMode.READ);
    highscoreXML = new XML(fileStream.readUTFBytes(fileStream.bytesAvailable));
    This works on my desktop debug, but it does not seem to work on my Ipad though.
    This is how I package the file.. putting the included xml file at the end (is this right?)
    ./adt  -package -target ipa-test -storetype pkcs12 -keystore  Certificates.p12 -storepass PASS  -provisioning-profile MotoMemoryProfile.mobileprovision motoMemory.ipa  motoMemory-app.xml motoMemory.swf highscore.xml
    It works until it has to open the highscore.xml. Not sure how to debug this or if I am missing anyhthing...
    I would really appreciate any input.
    cheers
    /andreas

    I had this problem too.  Was getting IO errors.  What ended up fixing it was changing the path from "file.xml" to "/file.xml".
    For some reason, I only had that problem with XML files needing the / in front.
    Also, you might wasnt to consider using the SharedObject instead of an XML file.  Much easier.
    var myData:SharedObject = SharedObject.getLocal("scores");
    myData.data.scores = <your scores object>;

  • How to access XML files inside IDML?

    Hi All,
    How to access the different XML files like designmap, story, masterspread, etc. found inside the IDML files?

    An External Library DC is only intended to include jars. Using a Java DC may be a better idea, unless you put your xml files into a jar first (but you'd need a Java DC for that...).

  • Including a file from another website on a Mac (PHP)

    I'm working on a Mac, and my websites are in a folder at the
    following
    location...
    MacIntosh HD > Users > MyName > Sites
    Let's say I'm working on a page on a website named Beta...
    HD > Users > MyName > Sites > Beta
    ...and I want to include a file from a different website,
    Alpha...
    HD > Users > MyName > Sites > Beta
    This is what the include looks like on my PC, though it isn't
    directed
    to another website:
    $BaseINC = $_SERVER["DOCUMENT_ROOT"];
    include ($BaseINC."/a1/inc/footer/index.php");
    Can anyone tell me how to modify this code so that it
    includes HD >
    Users > MyName > Sites > Alpha > a1 > inc >
    footer > index.php on a page
    in Sites > Beta? (I'm just focused on doing this locally;
    I know how to
    include files across websites online.)
    I assume it would look something like this
    include ("Alpha/a1/inc/footer/index.php");
    Thanks.

    Includes are a web server functionality. As such, you'll need
    to place your
    folders inside the default APACHE folders (assuming Apache is
    the web server
    you are running on your mac).
    Secondly, SSIs crossing sites is typically not supported on
    any web server
    AFAIK. Your example would be grabbing a file from a different
    FOLDER,
    though...not specifically a different site (ie, it's own root
    directory on
    the server).

It supports ASP and not PHP. I cant seem to get the ASP form to work so all i want to do it create a link to another one of there servers that supports PHP and have the contact form link to there and read the PHP file (that i will upload to that server) and send the email from there.

    DocumentBuilder db = dbf.newDocumentBuilder();
    Document doc = db.parse("c:/xml/message.xml");
    NodeList nl = doc.getElementsByTagName("message");
    %>
    <html>
    <body>
    <%= nl.item(0).getFirstChild().getNodeValue() %>

    are you looking for this?
    Document doc = db.parse("http://myotherwebserver/myFile.xml");

  • Place one IDML file inside another one.

    I want to place one or more IDML files into another single IDML "master" file.
    The master file is sort of a template for a site layout. The IDML files I need to embed represent single content boxes with specific layouts. The files for those content boxes are created outside of InDesign with some texts I get from a database.
    To retain those layouts I deemed it best to just place them into another document which is no problem with INDD but just with IDML.
    I managed to link multiple INDD files into the master file in InDesign itself, but can not figure out how to link IDML files. I also found that it is possible to link INDD files into IDML files, just not IDML into IDML.
    I need to be working with IDML as opposed to INDD because I have to be able to manipulate the files in an easy way outside of InDesign.
    Is there any way to link IDML files into other IDML files? Or if not, is there a possibility to convert my IDML files to INDD files without having to use a real instance of InDesign?
    Relevant Lines of code from the master IDML file taken from the Spread.xml file:
    <Link Self="u9f81" AssetURL="$ID/" AssetID="$ID/" LinkResourceURI="file:/path/to/subtemplates/box2.idml" LinkResourceFormat="$ID/InDesign Format Name" StoredState="Normal" LinkClassID="35906" LinkClientID="257" LinkResourceModified="false" LinkObjectModified="false" ShowInUI="true" CanEmbed="true" CanUnembed="true" CanPackage="true" ImportPolicy="NoAutoImport" ExportPolicy="NoAutoExport" LinkImportStamp="file 130505142560000000 1396736" LinkImportModificationTime="2014-07-22T16:50:56" LinkImportTime="2014-07-23T11:42:22" LinkResourceSize="0~155000" />
    If I leave this in and try to open the file in InDesign I get the error message that the linked file type is not supported
    <Link Self="u9f81" AssetURL="$ID/" AssetID="$ID/" LinkResourceURI="file:/path/to/subtemplates/box1.indd" LinkResourceFormat="$ID/InDesign Format Name" StoredState="Normal" LinkClassID="35906" LinkClientID="257" LinkResourceModified="false" LinkObjectModified="false" ShowInUI="true" CanEmbed="true" CanUnembed="true" CanPackage="true" ImportPolicy="NoAutoImport" ExportPolicy="NoAutoExport" LinkImportStamp="file 130505142560000000 1396736" LinkImportModificationTime="2014-07-22T16:50:56" LinkImportTime="2014-07-23T11:42:22" LinkResourceSize="0~155000" />
    If I put this in everything works fine.
    Notes: box1.indd and box2.idml are the exact same files, just saved differently by InDesign. The path to both files is a valid file system path and has full read/write access.

    Thank you for your reply. I already know that it is possible to edit IDML files, which is what I am already doing.
    What I am now looking for is a way to place one IDML file into another one like you are able to do with INDD files.
    Which file format should I use insted then? It must be editable outside of InDesign because I need to be able to change texts and stylings within the file.

    That possibly means you have to have InDesign Server to integrate in your workflow.
    That's the exact thing I am trying to avoid here.

  • How to upload an XML file into another system

    Hi friends,
    I have a requirement where I need to upload an  XML file into one system
    which has been downloaded  using  another  system.
    I have tried using the method ' cl_gui_frontend_services=>gui_upload'
    to upload the file but it is going for dump.
    I have used the  method ' w_xml->import_from_file' also,
    but it is also going for dump ,because  both methods are using the same FM
    ' GUI_UPLOAD'.
    Can any one suggest on this.
    Regards,

    "Here is the  Explaination for uploading the XML   Format file to sap   " through ABAP Program ....
    1. Basically you simply have to convert the XML file into the proper IDoc format. There are many ways to achieve this. One solution would be to convert it externally to SAP, e.g. via VB Script or with an XSLT transformation. Or you use the built in SAP functions for importing an IDoc from an XML stream.
    2. Uploading a file is either done via GUI_UPLOAD or via the usual way of reading a file from the application server (Open dataset. Read dataset) But what do you mean by "send to external system"? Do you want to convert an IDoc into XML? Then you simply define an XML port with WE21 to send the IDoc out.
    Here is an example of code that loads an XML from file and posts it as an IDoc. Please keep in mind that the XML has to be in its canonical format as described in the interface repository: ifr.sap.com (choose the template of the desired IDoc from there as an example).
    data: data_tab type table of char1024.
    data: XML_STREAM type string.

  • How to include xml file without embedding in flex web application?

    Hi
    I have a big XML file around 11 mb. I want to include this xml in my web application without embedding.
    So anyone have idea to include.
    Please suggest me any idea.
    Thanks

    If you don't want to embed the XML file into a SWF, then the SWF can download the XML file from the server at runtime when it needs it. But there will be a delay while that happens. Maybe it would be better to put the data in the XML file into a database and then access only the parts of it that you need.
