Return to Mail

When opening an attachment or a link from email the attachment or link opens fine in Safari, but there does not appear to be a DONE or BACK button to return to the e-mail msg. Am I missing something? I am having to hit the home button and then re-open mail and start all over again. Is their an easier and faster way to get back to the original e-mail ??

Well, I'm not positive if there's another way or not, but if you double press the home button (tap the button twice quickly), you'll get the 'recently used' apps slide up from the bottom.  If Safari is running and email was the last app you used prior, it will be the first one in the list.  Tap and you'll switch right to where you left off.
That's definately faster than the way I was doing it, thanks.

Are you viewing it in Artist view or Album view? In Album view, it should still list albums by artist name, then album name. If you're in Album view, you might be looking for Artist view.

I drafted an email, hit my home button and went to Safari before sending the email or saving it as a draft. When I returned to mail, the email I was working on cannot be found. How can I recover it?

I've found that since I installed iOS7, I've had this problem a lot. In iOS6, I was initially cautious about leaving a draft open and unsaved while I used other apps, but soon found it was quite reliable and they were always still there when I returned to Mail.
With the first version of iOS7, the draft was almost certain to be gone when I returned. Since iOS7.0.4 it's a lot better, but not reliable enough to trust. I've got into the habit of using Cancel/Save Draft *every* time I need to use Safari, etc, before continuing with an email I'm typing. It's just not worth having to retype it.
Note that when you return to the Mail app, you don't have to go to the Drafts folder to find your draft again. Just tap and hold the New Message icon, and a list of drafts will appear. The most recent one will be at the top. I've found that this tip makes the idea of having to cancel, save and reopen much less tedious.

  • HT4061 I am receiving return e-mails saying undeliverable mail was sent using my e-mail addy as the "from" addy. It is spam mail and some has been sent to U.S. military. It is not coming directly from my e-mail/ i-cloud account. How do I stop it?

I am receiving returne postmaster e-mails saying e-mails were not deliverable, and some say they were blocked as being spam mail because they were sent to U.S. military addresses. The e-mails are coming from an outside source and are not being sent directly from my e-mail, but whoever is doing it is putty my address in as the sender. How do I stop this?

at this point the best you could do would be to delete your email account, or ignore the emails

  • Return Receipt (Mail 3.3)

There are often times when I need to know if someone has at least received my email. Is there any way to get a return receipt for email that has been sent from Apple Mail 3.3? My work email allows me to check if I want a return receipt. I have looked in the help menu and may be searching the wrong terms because I can't find anything there.

I agree that (1) a return receipt feature would be nice, (2) that receiving email with a "return receipt" demand is annoying, (3) a return receipt that the recipient can decline AND read the email is worthless.
Thunderbird, which looks like a much smarter free client than Apple Mail, allows you to request a receipt on a case-by-case basis. I agree setting it globally makes one look rather overly anxious. Also, I'm not sure Apple Mail even honors incoming receipt requests!
I want something that works like old-fashioned certified mail: the recipient can sign for and read or decline and NOT read the message. I get date-stamped notice either way. It might also send you a notice that an email has not been picked up after a certain interval and has presumably been lost. This addresses the lost-mail scenario and is useful in the situation where the recipient pretends not to receive emails and blamed the sender (as you might suppose, a phone call is not a good alternative with such a person). The who-said-what-when can be invaluable, not just in litiagtion contexts but in figuring out where communication broke down so that it doesn't happen again. The log should be created automatically.
So, no email client can really fix this. (Apple mail should still have the option to request receipt!) The only way I can see for this to work is to go through a 3rd party. Ideas?
For now, yes, request a reply when it's important!!!!
One alternative I hate to mention is the "bug" the emails. Services such as didtheyreadit embed invisible images or html tricks in emails and report back every time the message is opened or forwarded, including time, date, IP address, and other details. Maybe this doesn't break the law in that it doesn't reveal private information about the person's computer etc. any more than their picking up the phone does, BUT I dislike it and think the recipient should, as with certified mail, have a chance to decline seeing the message altogether. Perhaps one could bug AND advise the recipient that you do so. At least it is automatic and provides a 3rd-person log that you can point to in a dispute and not be accused of fabricating. Not that I know personally, ahem, but it does work quite well provided the recipient doesn't know how to block it. Admissible in court? I'm not sure.

  • Returned Bounced Mail

I eceive approximately 30-70 'JUNK'Mail everyday, wich is a "PAIN IN THE ...". I usually 'BOUNCE ' these e-mails back to the Sender. But there are times when my Bounce is sent back to me indicating an 'unknown client' This really raises my blood pressure. I am aware this is not an Apple problem but an Outgoing Mail Server Problem because it is the Outgoing Mail Server which releases the e-mail to be sent. Is there a way to block all mail from a Particular Server, so I do not even receive the e-mail?
    Thanks,
    Darrell

Most spammers hack into a Windows PC with an always on internet connection without a firewall or adequate firewall settings or just due to Windows being so insecure. The spammer uses the unsuspecting Windows PC user's email client to send bulk spam mailings without the user's knowledge until it is brought to their attention in some form or fashion. The spammer pulls a valid email address from the hacked user's address book to appear as the sending email address for the bulk spam mailings and usually randomly changes the sending email address. If the bounce feature works - without receiving a returned email error message indicating the bounced message was not deliverable, this means the spammer used a valid email address to appear as the sending email address for the bulk spam mailing by some means so your bounced message is sent to some unsuspecting person and not to the intended recipient so as already provided, using the bounce feature on spam is a complete waste of time for a number of reasons.
Since you are receiving so much spam with this email address, have you used this email address in any public manner such as for online purchases or for website access if required or provided with a newsgroup or in way where the address can be easily "harvested" by a spammer, etc.?
And do you automatically render all HTML received or have you ever selected any links included with a spam message or used the "remove now" link usually included with spam to be removed from the mailing list? If so, you have confirmed that your email address is valid to the spammer causing even more spam to be received. Spammers also trade/sell their "known good" email address lists to each other.

  • AOL Response re returned e-mails I sent to AOL users

Could you send me a private message with all the correspondance with AOL, including any case numbers?  We may be able to contact them and get some additional information.

My e-mails to AOL users are being returned to me.  This is the response I received from the AOL Postmaster when I opened a ticket.  Would like a response from Comcast. Hello,
I am contacting you regarding the ticket you opened with AOL concerning an email delivery issue for the IP(s) 173.201.193.106.
This IP belongs to your hosting company(SecureServer.net), and has poor reputation. We are receiving high volume of pharmacy, lottery spam from SecureServer IP's. We have contacted them with a few examples, and requested them to secure the server. However, we are forced to temp fail emails from their servers until the server is secured. I understand that your domain is hosted on a shared server, but the spam issue seems to be occurring quite often. Please contact your hosting company, and request them to take effective measures to secure their server.
    Thank you

  • Mail - Search always returns All mail entries

When I use the Search facility in Mail to try and find some specific mails I know I have amongst my many thousand of mails, i just can't get Search to return anything other than a full return of all items in the mailbox.
I'm clearly being daft somehow, but can't figure it out.
I enter single word into the search box in the top right, and it always just says 10,562 (or whatever the current number is) items, which makes no sense.  I'm using search words that should return a few hundred. I've even put in non existent words to prove the point - still get the same number 'returned'.
Sort of sensing that no search is actually taking place, or there's some overriding criteria/setting hiding somewhere.
Using current version of Yosemite including version 8.0 of Mail.
What am I missing - anyone know?
    Cheers.

I was able to solve all my problems with searching in Mail with a simple process. I backed up my entire machine with Time Machine, then booted from my OS X install / restore DVD. Then selected restore from time machine backup, it rewrote my entire hard drive with the backup from time machine and upon booting back up, Mail reindexed all messages and my computer was exactly how I left it before I backed it up.
The problems I was having with mail included:
    Unable to search 'entire message'
Unable to search 'entire message' when a specific inbox was selected
Able to search messages from spotlight in the Finder, but then they would disappear.
The spotlight index not being updated when new mail came in, making it unsearchable.
Plus a slew of other search in Mail problems.
Backing up and then doing a full restore from Time Machine solved all the problems.
    Hope this helps,
    Vince

  • Need Help In Returning to Mail; Thunderbird Creates Disaster!

What I love about Mail is that I use multiple Macs and can keep all my .Mac and other email on the respective email servers, thus having access to all my email on all my machines wherever I might be. What I don't like about Mail is the weak spam filter.
So, I tried Mozilla's Thunderbird and disasterous results. Whereas Mail keeps all emails on your respective email servers by default, Thunderbird yanks all messages off the servers and puts them on your local computer, by default, and without asking your permission to do so.
Does anyone know how I can import all that Thunderbird mail back to Mail? Mozilla's instructions on how to do so don't work.
    Thanks.

My "judgemental and condesending attitude" is a consequence of your judgemental and outrageous attitude towards other people's work. It's you who started this thread with the wrong attitude. My attitude is a direct consequence of that.
is not helpful on a forum like this
Well, that's debatable, especially taking into consideration that how I behave depends entirely on how the participant I'm "talking" with behaves. I can see why my attitude might appear not being helpful to someone with your attitude, though.
and unquestionably out of the ordinary
This I agree with. Other participants might simply have ignored you, as I usually do in cases such as this. It happens, however, that your wrong comments could mislead other users into believing that Thunderbird could cause them some "disaster", which is clearly not the case, so I felt that I had to reply to you somehow.
You are wrong in your comments and you clearly have
no idea what you are talking about.
LOL. Are you sure it's me who doesn't know what is he/she talking about? Would you dare enlightening me?
your further comments are way out of line.
Keeping people like me from making such comments is easy. Just don't make yourself comments which are also way out of line, such as "Thunderbird Creates Disaster!" when what happened in fact is just that you didn't set up the account the way you wanted it to work.
Perhaps you might be better served to keep your "preachy"
    opinions to yourself.
If you don't like your way out of line comments to be refuted in a similar way, then it's you who should keep your "preachy" opinions to yourself. It's you who started this thread and chose the tone that should be used in it, remember?

  • Attached Mail Document - unable to return to mail

This has happened to me a couple of times and I'm looking for simpler solutions to a re-boot.
I open an attachment in mail (both times a PDF) and then close the iPad or go to another app. When I come back to mail it the document is what is displayed and none of the controls for the doc work including being able to hit the done button and go back to mail.
The two times this has happened I've re-booted the iPad and it comes back just fine. Is this an apps bug? Is there a simpler solution than the re-boot.
    Thanks
    GJM

If you have any app on your iPad that can open the attachment (e.g. Good Reader, DocsToGo), you can use that app to open the attachment rather than the Mail app's built-in quick viewer. This can avoid the "stuck in the quick viewer" problem with no "Done" button.
In the Mail app, just click-and-hold on the icon of the attachment. A small menu will pop-up giving you some options like:
    Quick Look
    Open in "DocsToGo"
    Open In...
Click on any other option than Quick Look and open the attachment in another app. Seems to work fine for all types of attachments.
    Regards
    Peter

  • Possible to return to Mail 1.3?

I have just reluctantly (as I knew I didn't like the look of much what I saw on newer macs)upgraded from 10.3.9 to 10.4.11. Too many progs like Firefox 3 and Nikon Capture 2 won't run on 10.3.9.
Unfortunately it upgraded from Mail 1.3 to Mail 2.1 without option not to.
Is there any way I can get back to or download Mail 1, as it is 500% clearer and I like my mailboxes in black and white only to the right of the window where they have worked perfectly for last 8 years. Can I fish it off say from my 10.2.4 CD?

Wait until you get to Leopard and find out Mail v3.3 is 288.9MB!
It may or may not work to reinstall the PKG.
Eudora 5.21 which for me is way better than Mail, is only 6.4MB, Thunderbird is 51.1MB, buy much more reliable & useful than Mail imho.

  • Returned Junk mail-How to delete for ever

I use to bounce junk mail and there was never a problem except from one sender 'iflorist. When I deleted those they just reurned back to the in folder. I tried dragging them into trash and they soon appear again in the in folder. I opened a seperate file for undelivered mail, dragged them into that file but after a few minutes they reappear in the original in folder.
    This is POP mail
Someone suggested that somehow a loop has been created but can't say how to get out of it.
Any suggestions please as ther are about 30 of them taking up space.

Hi Dick, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Most of the time "bouncing" junk mail just lets them know they have a valid eMail address.
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup

  • Address Book - Return Address & Mailing Labels

In trying to wean myself away from using Appleworks, decided to give AB a try for labels. Had good success in doing routine labels for lists/groups of recipients, but no luck so far in trying to do return address labels or any other type which features multiple copies (an entire sheet, say) of the same address information.
I looked through Help already and ran several searches in these fora. Is it even possible to do this? I came up with a sort of kludgy approach of just making multiple copies of the same card in a group but wasn't able to do that either.
    TIA for any insights.

To update: Seems impossible in normal means to make multiple copies of a single AB entry, meaning you really can't do things like return address labels (among other examples).
I don't see this as a huge indictment of either Address Book or of Pages, and it remains almost ridiculously easy to do in Appleworks and, with a bit more tedium involved, in Word. In fact, I just went ahead and completed the project in AW while continuing to play with Address Book, during which I did stumble into at least one kludge approach which works just fine.
    Steps:
    1. Drag the selected v-card to the Desktop
    2. Copy/Duplicate it enough times to wind up with the number of records that you need, which is often going to be the number of labels per sheet.
    3. Create a Group for the labels, then drag all of the cards from Step #2 into it. You'll have to step through the process of using all of the other copies; left to its own devices AB will detect that they're all identical and will only use one of them.
Now print the group, using the print dialogue boxes to set things up for the type cards that you're using.
This is neither faster nor necessarily better than AW or Word, but it does work. It strikes me as something that AB should be able to do easier than this, though, and I've submitted Feedback to Apple about this. Perhaps if others would do the same we'd see this added in, eventually.

  • In Mail, iPad2, when returning to a draft, I'm unable to send or cancel.

    The situation is:
Reply to an email, cancel and Save a draft, then close and go to another app, then return to mail, and the draft folder and select the draft mail.  Then the file is there, and i can continue to edit, but i cant send or cancel the edit session.  I must force exit the program to recover, and the I am given back the option to cancel or Send.  And I get both the new mail and the old one in the Draft folder as a bonus!
Is this a known bug, or is there a solution out there?
IPad2, I've updated to current OS5.  I'm using Mail with a gmail account, if it makes any difference

I face the exact issue! It happens with my every draft and seems like nobody knows why this happens.
    Looks to me a bug...
