"Reviews" link in Google always opens Maps app, not reviews, annoying.

This only happens on iPads. I like to use the link to reviews in Google when doing research on businesses I am buying something from. Normally on a computer, in the list of results on Google, it will show the business, a mini map, address, phone, etc and often a link to reviews. For some weird reason on the iPad, when you click that reviews link it just opens up the Maps app to show me where it is, not the reviews. Is there any way to get this to work right?
Thanks

When I click on the reviews link on my Compaq laptop, it take me straight to a page with all the reviews, which is what I have done also on my Apple laptop too for years, very handy link, but the iPad somehow thinks it should open Maps and shows me where business is located. Strange. It seems many websites have a way of knowing if you are accessing it with a iPad or iPhone or similar device and then things react differently, sometimes not correctly as in this case.
Edit: One thing I noticed on the reviews page which my Compaq opened, the reviews page is under the "Maps" section, still within Google actually. So, the iPad can't access Google Maps in that way because iPad uses that separate Maps app. I wish there was a preference in iPad that allowed you to stop it from automatically using the Maps app all the time.

My i Pad 3 shows "cannot Access Find My Friends open the app and review your sign in information to continue sharing your location. And I have two buttons : Later and Open but they don't work. As long as I have this screen situation, I cann't do anything on my I Pad. Please help !!

I have the same problem on my iPhone4. It is obviously a bug in the software. Once it pops out I am locked out of my phone. I can't even begin to describe the frustration this causes. All that stuff about holding down the buttons is useless. the phone won't even shut off. I can take a screen shot like that or go to voice control. Even when I got to a wifi connection, I can't get on. This app blocks everything else. This is a serious bug and can have serious consequences. The only thing my phone would do is go to voice control and let me play iTunes or phone people. Some smart phone hey?
I have finally got to a place with a wide enough wifi to connect my computer and restore the phone. This has lasted over a day!
I don't even know why Find My Friends is on my phone. Is it part of the package and how do I turn it off?

  • Possible to Open Maps.app via Browser URL?

I'm wondering whether it's possible to open the new Maps app via a localised URL that can be bookmarked?
    i.e. mac://home/applications/maps.app
Does anyone know of such a method?

    Hey Parbinder Johal,
Great question. On a Mac, you can bookmark this link to automatically open the Maps application:
    http://maps.apple.com/?q
You can also learn about rules for creating a valid map link at the following resource. For example, this link ( http://maps.apple.com/?q=cupertino ) will open a query of Cupertino, California.

  • "Search in Google" always open Safari

I have Flock set as my default browser. When I'm in the Finder, or Mail, or TextEdit etc., select a word and command click to select "Search in Google," Safari opens instead of Flock. Is there another place I have to change this preference?

Yes, this is really pushy, annoying, and monopolistic behavior! I use firefox. I like Apple mail, and search in Google is a nice feature, but I don't want it to bring up Safari, especially when I'm already running firefox!
Anxiously awaiting someone with a fix, workaround, or for Apple to start behaving well. (Isn't this the sort of thing Microsoft is always accused of doing? Yet under Windows, I can make Firefox the default! Well, if that doesn't wake up Apple...)

  • Firefox android doesn't honour default actions. eg click and instagram link - other browsers will open instagram app, Firefox will go to the site

    as above

    Hi,
Thanks for using Firefox for Android! We are working on a fix for this, so you can choose to have Firefox open the app or the web page, see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=769454

  • Mavericks Maps App not showing any images?

My Maps App on the new Mavericks OS is not showing any images.
    Can anybody help me ?

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Maps app not working on my I phone

Sir the map app on my I phone is not working it always says directions between these two locations could not be found

  • Maps app not working

Maps app stopped working.  Closed apps and powered completely down and restarted the iPad2.  Maps app starts up and immediately shuts down.
Not near my PC to delete the Maps app and then try to install it again.  Can't find the app at the app store to download and reinstall.
Is there some other way to correct the problem?

That didn't work although it did prompt me to learn the difference between a regular power down and a hard reset.  Thanks for pointing that out.  Still the problem persisted.
What did work was going to settings and doing a reset there using Settings/General/Reset/Reset All Settings.  I wouldn't want to do that very often as it takes awhile to get the iPad back to where I had it before.
With over 180 apps installed and a 2 year old granddaughter using it regularly, I am sure the interactions of open apps and user input can really challenge even a well-designed piece of hardware/software.

  • Is there a URL to open phone app (not dial a number)?

    Hey Guys,
So I'm using Launch Center Pro (loving it, by the way) but I've come across a bit of an issue. I put in most of the numbers I dial into LCP to act as a speed dial and, as a result, relocated the phone app to the last page of my iPhone. However, if I get a voicemail and miss the notification I have to swipe all the way to the last page to open the app and access them. I'm wondering if there's a URL (like LCP uses, some variation of tel://) that allows me to simply open up the phone app or, if possible, open to the voicemail page? I noticed that when you do dial a number in LCP it opens the prompt window in LCP and not the dial screen in the phone app.
    Thanks for the help!

In my experience advising Logic users, depending upon the version of Logic and the model Mac you are using, if your Mac will boot from Snow Leopard, you can install Logic and all of its plug-ins in Snow Leopard and then upgrade to Mavericks.

  • Map app not displaying correctly

I recently downloaded the most recent os 8.1.3 on my iphone 4s. Now the map app (apple default) doesn't display correctly. I only see the grid and my location dot in standard view, no street names or lines, no details whatsoever. This is affecting any app that uses the apple default (Zillow, trulia, etc). My husband has the exact same iphone 4s and he has the most current os and his map app works fine. I'm thinking that I should try to reload the most current os but since it is the most current, there doesn't seem to be an obvious way since all message are "you have the most current version". I could also try to download just the most recent version of the map app but since it is a default, I don't know how. Any suggestions?

    Hi meedjmom,
If you are having issues with your Maps application not displaying correctly, you may want to try some things to troubleshoot.
First, quit all running applications and test again -
Force an app to close in iOS
Next, I would try restarting and if needed resetting the iPhone -
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If the issue is still present, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
