Incomplete list Oracle Database Error Messages Part Number B14219-01
The following regards documentation on Oracle® Database Error Messages Part Number B14219-01 as read on http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14219/intro.htm
Reading an example on Message Stacks in section 1 Using Messages, the following error description is nowhere to be found in the main list: ORA-06502. So are many other very common errors like ORA-00942 ¿Are these described in another book?
Thanks,Hello again. I have learned that some of these older low-number error messages were present in the code in a different and abbreviated format than the one eventually agreed upon. These messages were entered by hand in the Error Messages book. When we began generating the messages directly from the code, some of these older messages were inadvertently dropped. We hope to fix this problem in the next release by changing the code. I apologize for any inconvenience this causes. For now the only workaround is to go back to an earlier version of the documentation, as the meaning of the messages has not changed.

Adding a field to an sql statement in Oracle Reports error ORA-00933
We have been requested to add a field that already exists in the table referred to by the sql statement in Oracle Reports Builder. The report was set up by a consultant about 3 yrs ago and we don't really have much skill in this area. What is happening when I try to modify the SQL statement, either adding a field or deleting a field to the SELECT statement, causes an error message preventing the statement from being saved. The only way out of the error message is to click Cancel. The error message is
ORA-00933:SQL command not properly ended
ORDER BY Program ==> NAME
Even adding or deleting a space anywhere in the SQL statement causes the error (not adding any new fields). A coworker found that if we comment out the ORDER BY, the statement will accept the new field in the SELECT section, however then we lose the order by functionality. I would like to add one additional field before the FROM. Not sure if any additional data are needed. Thank you.

I tried your suggestion. The good thing is that adding the comma allowed me to be able to add a.campus to the select statement, unfortunately, another error message happened.
ORA-00936: missing expression SELECT p . person_uid PIDM_KEY ,
p . id_number , p . full_name_lfmi name , p . BIRTH_DATE , p . GENDER Sex ,
Decode ( a . residency , 'D' , p . Primary_Ethnicity , 'F' ) Ethn , a . academic_period TERM ,
CASE WHEN : P_group_by = 'PROGRAM THEN a I started over and tried only putting in the comma and get the same message even though I didn't add campus. After that, removed the comma which led to the ORA-00933 error message. So once again, I had to close the file without saving, in order for the report to run at all. -

refer this

'BACKUP_TOO_OLD- Start a complete database backup'
read Notes, google, SDN about how to schedule/take backups
'LAST_BACKUP_FAILED'
it's because that the backup took last time, was failed, you can check return code in the backup logs
in /oracle/SID/sapbackup directory
LOG_BUFFER
refer Notes as per your release like this SAP Note 830576 - Parameter recommendations for Oracle
and then read oracle documentation and sap notes that how to change/update oracle parameters-not difficult
ARCHIVER_STUCK- Save and delete archive log files
ARCHIVE_TOO_OLD- Start an archive log backup
/oracle/SID/oraarch or /oracle/SID/saparch contains oracle redo log files, archiver_stuck means one of these filesystems is full, so you have to run redolog backup as the next warning says that archive_too_old .. read oracle docs and sap docs that how toschedule redolog backups
other things too, check and try to do first and if problem comes, always welcome -
Please i need to startup my database but this is the error message i got.
The last thing i did was to set archive log destination
ora-16032: parameter log_archive_dest_1 destination string cannot be translated
ora-09291: sksachk: invalid device specified for archive destination

Handling oracle forms errors (frm-nnnnn) locally
is there a way to handle an oracle form error (e.g. frm-40508) locally in a way similar to handle oracle database errors.
e.g.
procedure insert_something is
insert_error exception;
pragma exception_init(insert_error,-40508);
begin
:c1.a := 1;
:c1.b := 2;
commit_form;
exception
when insert_error then
<handle insert error on c1 block>;
end;
Edited by: mojo on Oct 7, 2008 4:34 AMby locally i mean within the pl/sql block that will have raised the error.
an example i encoutnered recently, but by no means the only occasion i have wished such things:
function mseRecStatus returnvarchar2 is
rtnChar varchar2(32);
begin
rtnChar := get_record_property(mouseRec,mouseBlock,status);
return rtnChar;
end;
This is called from a pre-pop-menu trigger. mouseRec and block are calculated previously. A right-click on a record item below the last record raises error frm-40741 (unable to locate record on block). it would be nice to be able to do something like the following without incolving an on-error trigger:
function mseRecStatus returnvarchar2 is
rtnChar varchar2(32);
non_record_clicked exception;
pragma exception_init(non_record_clicked,-40741);
begin
rtnChar := get_record_property(mouseRec,mouseBlock,status);
return rtnChar;
exception
when non_record_clicked then
return null;
end; -

Your import database use a multibyte characterset, your export db a singlebyte cs.
This means, a char can need more than 1 byte.
Try this before import (and before create tables!!):
alter system set nls_length_semantics=char;Greetings

Advice. -
Hi to all.
Currently, i am trying to install patches for portal server.
The server OS is Sun Solaris 8.
We are using Oracle9iAS.
Now, we are installing 9.0.1.4.0 patch set for the Oracle Database Server.
We managed to install the patch, but have problem with the Post Install Action.
We managed to run
-ALTER SYSTEM ENABLE RESTRICTED SESSION;
-@rdbms/admin/catpatch.sql
-ALTER SYSTEM DISABLE RESTRICTED SESSION;
-CONNECT / AS SYSDBA
-update obj$ set status=5 where type#=29 and owner#!=0;
-commit;
But, when we come to the next command, which is to shutdown, it gives us like
this..
SQL> update obj$ set status=5 where type#=29 and owner#!=0;
1402 rows updated.
SQL> commit;
Commit complete.
SQL> shutdown immediate
Database closed.
Database dismounted.
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-01219: database not open: queries allowed on fixed tables/views only
We tried to startup the database..it gives us this error..
SQL> startup
ORA-01081: cannot start already-running ORACLE - shut it down first
So, we tried to shutdown again..
SQL> shutdown immediate
ORA-01089: immediate shutdown in progress - no operations are permitted
I been informed that this is maybe a Database problem related. Any ideas?
Best Wishes,
Rushdan Md Saad.Patchsets could be obtained (only) from http://metalink.oracle.com
You need to have valid CSI for access.
P.S: Sorry Werner, I didn't see you post.

Error while installing Oracle Database Lite 10.2.0.1.1 for Win
Hello,
I am trying to install Oracle Database Lite 10.2.0.1.1 on Windows XP. I am going according screens on this page:
http://www.oraclebrains.com/2008/07/installing-oracle-database-lite-10g-release-3-mobile-server/
But at Step:12 - Mobile Server repository Wizzard after password enter I get error --- Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection. May I insert specific password for Username SYSTEM? Or where is problem?
Thanks for hint
DavidHi,
I have the same problem but, how can i know what my SID is ? i am trying with "ORCL" and it doesnt work.
Do you know in which file i can get it ? in the documentation of the installation i found this:
"If you are not sure of the values to enter for the URL, then you can query the data dictionary to obtain these values.
Connect as SYSTEM and run the following queries.
To retrieve the SID, execute: select instance_name from v$instance;
If you need to retrieve the port number, check the listener.ora file on the
back-end database."
But how can i query the database if i have not finished to install it yet and where is located the listener.ora file ?
I hope you can help me.
Thank you. -
