i have a question about curve in the rgb and lab mode
in the rgb ,i can use the curve and i can make dark or bright some ares of the photo
in the lab mode ,i have luminocity channel and i can make more dark or bright some ares of the photos
well my question , is
is there difference, odds between curve in rgb mode(RGB channel) and lab mode (luminocity channel) ?
what does it change?
is there a profit, advantage in lab mode luminocity channel?
i mean i did not find a exhaustive answer in the manual , and i can' see differences

What is your question? You've described what the program is supposed to do, but it's not clear what you're asking about. Do you need help getting started? If so, have you gone through the LabVIEW tutorials? You and look over the material in the NI Developer Zone's Learning Center which provides links to other materials and other tutorials. You can also take the online courses for free. Have you looked through the many examples that ship with LabVIEW for data acquisition?

Adobe Staff: at first I was pleased and then let down about the new RGB Tone Curve feature because I thought it allowed for Levels Addustments - as with so many other photo editing software including Adobe PS Elements where you can squeeze in the left and right triangles to ajust the blacks and highlights and midtones.
I was playing with the Lr4b RGB curve yesterday and - is it correct that it does essentially act the same as "Levels Adjustment" by squeezing inwards the blacks (lower left) and whites (upper right) points?

Yeah, but blacks and whites in the basic panel are better, and usually should be applied after you've appled the others.

Look, It's okay for me if you like to cut your beefsteak with a butter knife.... But LightRoom is a production tool for professionals, and professional need precision and productivity.
RBG Adjustment tool is not about getting adjustment more easy, it's about getting precise and accurate adjustments in precise tones. Just try to do all this on the same image in Lightroom, and if you really can, for sure it's not faster as you could do it with the RGB Adjustment curves :
- increase the blues in the shadows
- reduce the blues in the Highlights
- reduce the reds in shadows
- increase the reds in highlights
- increase the greens in highlights
I'm looking forward to see how you do that in a fast way LR.

I was trying to test opaque font (the string has a foreground color and a background color), but i can't find the method for doing that.
i can change foreground by Graphics2D.setPaint(Color.black).
Anybody know how to change the background of the string?

Hi. The way I'd do it would be to use the font metrics to find the length of a string and draw a rectangle and then drawstring over the rectangle. If you want an example, I can post it although I suspect theres a better way.

SB Live 5.1 (SB0060) - various questions, help appreciated

I have numerous questions. Hope they aren't too annoying..
. I just installed a new card it's an SB Li've 5..
I think it's SB0060 - the box says "Model SB0060US" and "Product Part No: 70SB006003007" on top. But the bottom says "OuterBox Part No. 06SB02220004". Is this really SB00600?
2. If it's really SB0600, why did the CD not install any DOS drivers? (I was told here that SB0600 is that last card that supports DOS - which is the reason I bought it).
3. Using my old DOSDRV directory from my old SB Li've! Value installation, I was able to get it to work in DOS anyway. Woohoo! But is this actually safe? Is there a legitimate download containing the DOS drivers or should I carry these old files around with me? I'm using "BLASTER=A220 I5 D H5 P330 T6 J200"; is T6 (type 6) the right type for this card?
4. DOS games, e.g. Doom, don't seem to have sound in Windows. Only when I run them in DOS.
5. A leaflet that came with the card suggested uninstalling WDM drivers and installing VXD drivers on Win 98 SE to prevent "performance problems". I heard stuttering and skipping sounds (strange since my CPU is 3.4 GHz) so I installed the VXD drivers like it said. Now, MIDI's seem much quieter than before and I can't get them nearly as loud as MP3's. Changing AudioHQ / Volume sliders or Sound Font didn't seem to help, any ideas?
6. "Device Controls" no longer appears under AudiopHQ. As a result, I can't change the "Max Simultaneous Wav Playback" setting. Any ideas?
7. Is this card better than SB Li've Value!? I couldn't see any improvements right away.
8. This SB0060 did not come with an 8 MB soundbank, but in Sound Font I was able to select an old 8 MB soundbank that came with SB Li've! Value. Shouldn't a better card come with sound fonts at least as good as a previous one?
9. My system hangs when I try to install Li'veWare 3.0. Is this program inapplicable to my new SB0060 card?

FYI..
5. It looks like the VXD drivers lead to quiet MIDI's. So on Win 98 SE, it's EITHER STUTTERING SOUNDS (WDM drivers) or NEARLY SILENT MIDI's (VXD drivers)
Also, this SB0060 card is exhibiting a problem that my CT4830 SB Li've! Value did NOT exhibit - if I'm playing an MP3 file and my system pauses, e.g. when I insert a USB device, the CT4830 used to just pause for a moment if at all. The SB0060 with VXD driver causes nasty clicks and pops and just becomes silent; I have to start playing the MP3 file again to fix the problem
Also I tried installing the drivers that came with my SB Li've! Value on the SB Li've! 5. and they do NOT work!! It looks like SB6 emulation is impossible on the SB0060 card! Now I cannot play many good games like DOOM, DOOM2, HERETIC, WITCHAVEN, DUKE NUKEM 3D, WOLFENSTEIN, etc. in Windows!
Li'veware 3.0 instantly CRASHES; since Creative does not offer any Li'veware drivers on their website any more I will try to track down Li'veware .0 which INCLUDES DOS support. If you know where to get Li'veware .0 please post information here!
Currently I am thinking of going back to my old SB Li've! Value. SB0060 has many problems . Also the software provided with SB0060 is inferior to the combination of SB Li've! Value drivers plus the Li'veware 3.0 upgrade.
It does not help that creative labs has extremely slow response on this website! And Creative labs personnel did NOT warn me about these SB0060 problems!!

Script for color space conversion RGB to CMYK - URGENT Help Wanted

Excuse my ignorance with the basic nature of this question, I don't use InDesign, but I do have a pressing problem regarding it.
My book publisher has just emailed to say that my photography book has been set for the printers in InDesign and the photographs have AdobeRGB color space (which was what I was aksed to send.) The printer needs the images to be in CMYK. The publisher said that he was "pretty sure Adobe Acrobat converts the InDesign files to CMYK" and that he has sent the printer RGB images in the past and they "came out OK". He said that if this will not work, he needs to convert all of the images separately to CMYK.
Can you help with the following:
1. Is he right about the above - can Adobe Acrobat convert the files?
2. Can anyone offer me a script that will convert all of the images in InDesign to CMYK? or will he need to change them individually?

1. Acrobat can convert.
2. No need for a script, if the printer needs CMYK, you can export a CMYK pdf.
3. To get the highest quality conversions, you might want to do it in Photoshop.
4. If the images are color managed and the printer has a modern work-flow a color managed RGB PDFX-4 pdf is probably the best way to go...

Aperture is reseting all my curves! HELP!

I'm not sure what is happening, but this is a major crisis!!! For some reason starting today, aperture is reseting all my curves adjustments! What would happen is, when I click on a picture to view it the curve would should momentarily for half a second (I could even be able to see the actual curve on the left) and then after that aperture would reset it. It doesn't reset it to the default state, what it would do is set the left and right slider to match the lowest blacks and highest white. Please help me, how do I stop this? I don't want to retouch my entire photo library!

I'm using latest version of OSX.
I'm using latest version of Aperture.
I applied the curves adjustments by using the curves brick. Sometimes I use effects/presets that put in their own curves.
I use the niksoftware plugins sometimes, but it basically creates a new file so it doesn't really have anything to do with the curves.
I have no upgraded aperture recently, or installed anything. However two things I did in the past few days:
1) Aperture crashed randomly at one time. I just relaunched it and it seems to run just fine so I just continued.
2) Aperture imported some photos from my camera and it says "Raw format not recognized" so what I did was rebuilt my database (by holding option+alt when launching). Afterwards the unrecognized images are shown.
My entire library is managed, no references. I only shoot RAW.
I have a time machine backup but no vaults. I'm going to roll back to a time machine version 3-4 days ago and see if the curves is still a problem. I will report back.

Encapsulated CMYK/RGB/LAB workflow good idea, bad idea?

Hi, I haven't worked a lot in CMYK but do so now. I usually get files in CMYK that were converted by someone somehwhere from the RGB files (Camera profile), to make the files "look like they look in print and not completely different". I sometimes get the original files, which I prefer since I can easily correct the colors and jump to LAB for blurring, sharpening, masking, blending etc.
Today I tried the following workflow (and was surprised it worked):
1. Open the file (RGB 8 or 16Bit)
2. Dublicate the Background Layer
3. Convert the dublicate to a Smart Object (SO)
4. Double click the SO and convert it to LAB.
5. Work a bit in LAB, save and close.
6. Back in RGB do further work on it and jump back into the LAB SO for further changes.
7. Turn the dublicate layer on and off, to see the difference compared to the Background Layer.
8. Turn on/off Proof (Cmd+Y)
I'd like to know wether this workflow has any unexpected dangers, that I'm not aware off, or if it even makes sence to anyone but me. Also, can/should I stuff the whole thing into a CMYK file as a smart object (CMYK containing RGB containing LAB)? I'd like to be able to work on the final CMYK file for final adjustments (color/contrast) via Curves but I might have to change something from an earlier step.

I always work in RGB mode as working with CMYK is horrible and very limited. If the file is required to be CMYK, but you still want all your adjusment layers etc. intact (and they are in RGB ofc.) just select all your layers, make smart object, then set image mode to CMYK.
For all intents and purposes the file is now CMYK, but you can edit it in RGB by going to the smart object. No problems with this. You can also have other documents like Illustartor-files as smart objects. Very convenient.

Memory Question Help Please

Alright ive never really been to smart on memory and how it runs and all that. The Question is I have a gig of ram on my mac book but right now it says only 30 mb is free
wired: 221mb
active: 524mb
inactive: 247 mb
used: 993mb
now is that normal cause i mean im hardly using anything im using like safari, aim, and itunes. seems like more memory should be free and crap.
